Nah, he got hes hand cut off and got more piratey and edgy, la-di-da. And the baby, well there was a baby, let's move on. DC Comics started calling Aqua Baby Arthur Curry Jr. when Aquaman's comic book was brought back in the mid 70's from its 1971 cancellation. In 1977 the series was revived (after Aquaman was given solo stories in Adventure Comics) and continued its original numbering but was canceled by issue #63 as one of several titles that were discontinued as part of the DC Implosion. The story for what would have been issue #64 was printed in Adventure Comics #462.

As an example in The Mummy movie from the 1930s the female protagonist has a strong personality and saves herself by the end. True, it is not a Wonder Woman or Xena fight but we are talking a 1930s movie. The fact that it happens is already amazing.

I don't remember the details, but she revealed she was pregnant, but that there was some sort of serum/medicine macguffin that was needed to prevent disaster, without which "Our baby will surely die!!!" (mucho emphasis). Complete rehash of Mera's problem here. I will say, though, that I always loved the idea of Johnny having a kickass Skrull wife, and I wish that relationship had been allowed to settle and grow rather than derail for cheap drama purposes. The FF's relationship with the Skrulls was always especially fraught, and it gave that romance a "two against the world / Romeo and Juliet" vibe. Plus, Lyja was just cool.

Most children know what pregnancy is, many will see their mothers being pregnant with their siblings, and the existence of younger siblings proves that it is possible to explain pregnancy to children without explaining sex. If the censorship is to protect children, no child would see a pregnant woman and think of sex. It's just the adults projecting their ideas onto children.

Watched every Filmation episode of his and Superboy's and then Super Friends (even if they were somehow responsible for him going from one of the icons to, sadly, a pop-culture joke). But I think that unique legend/overlooked status let DC be more experimental with him and very "Marvel"-like. Even right up to his and everyone's erasure by Crisis/post-crisis, he was still changing and evolving. In fact I could even see similar development having been continued event if Crisis hasn't rebooted everything. As for Arthur Jr., I always thought the boys powers inspired Franklin Richards' and growing spotlight. As a kid the fact that he actually died was almost too real; very powerful. Especially because I thought they were going go age him into slowly being a new generation of hero (Aquaboy?).

The serum making it to Mera in time reminds me of the FF issue and the What If follow up about Sue Richards giving birth to Franklin and needing some unobtainium to live.

Have you thought about covering the baby Darkseid story? It spans over a few titles, I think mainly Darkseid War and Justice League Odyssey. It contains a weird pregnancy and the baby version of one of the most powerful DC villains, so it seems like a perfect fit for the pregnancy playlist.
Also, a little less pregnancy but still dealing with hero’s kids, it’d be interesting to hear your takes on all the different alternate future depictions of hero and villain kids. I think in the Titans or Justice League comic from around 2016 there’s a storyline focusing on a hypertime future with some hero kids that are kind of interesting in concept. There’s Barry and Jessica Cruz’s potential kids and I think a John Stewart and Hawkgirl kid? I can’t remember, her fully but I do remember, her thinking it was really interesting to see how the powers of the parents combined for these kids. It was really explored well but I think good discussion could come from that. And even though it’s kind of fan fic-y, I like seeing those character combos like that, it kind of scratches that character fusion itch like with the amalgam-verse. I’d be curious to see your takes and if there were any ideas you had about future kids and how that would work.
And as always, great video. I never really comment so this is kind of long, but I’ve really enjoyed seeing your channel grow over the years. I can’t remember what video of yours I came across that lead me here, but I know this channel was still pretty small back then. Glad you’re still keeping up with it and congrats on your pregnancy. Best wishes

I'm going to be honest when I was younger and I used to watch the animated Aquaman show, I used to think Aqualad was Author's son. It then became Auqualad was Author's brother. It wasn't until later years to find out that wasn't true. In all that time, I don't remember Aquababy ever having a name until he died which is very sad. It always seemed like it was a last minute decision to call him Author Jr because they forgot to name him.

I had almost immediately fallen asleep watching this video.
And this was an unbelievably weird experience. I was dreaming of how i had caught a mouse in a bag on the ground. Right when i was about to lift upp the bag and see what i had caught, something like 10-20 mice came running out of the bag, RIGHT WHEN YOU SAID "EEK"!!!
Absolutely scared the SHIT out of me!
    SCARED ME COMPLETELY AWAKE!
I felt like i was literally attacked by a dozen mice that "Eek'ed" at me and woke me up with a powerful jerk.
    UNBELIEVABLE timing!
How it fit together so perfectly is beyond me. Feels like the universe is trying to tell me something.
Holy CRAP! My heart is racing...

I was pleasantly surprised when David Michilinie killed Arthur, Jr. off (in the same issue that revealed Black Manta was Black, which was a shock at the time as well). As for when the baby was named, it must have been at least after Sept. 1975, because I believe Aquaman was named Arthur Curry in Justice League of America 122, which was out the same month as the Adventure Comics issue where Aquaman became the lead feature again.

This is just my own personal headcanon, but what if Aqualad not seeing the sirens as lovely women, but as "ugly crows" is low-key coding Garth as not being attracted to women? And that's another reason he's constantly salty (no pun/joke intended) about Mera (or whoever) taking Aquaman's attention away from Garth.
Just a theory that amuses me when I ponder it
... Plus, it made my husband laugh. So, bonus.

TV and movies and books have often caused parents to have to address ideas before we're ready to. I think companies used to expect complaints and try to avoid them because businesses used to go under, caused by almost anything. These days, the biggest companies are rarely worried about causing problems for parents. They even hire executives who are proud to "poke the bear."

I had a bunch of Silver Age Aquaman issues, thanks to a Cub Scott paper drive and, I found the book to be very dark, reading it as a child. The only thing that registered higher on the Bleak-O-Meter was Peter Parker morning Gwen Stacey and Valkyrie (in human form) eating dog food, due to poverty. The sacrifices of motherhood.
Anyway, an interesting pregnancy comparison is the conception to birthing in Miracle Man & what happened to "the Duck" in Starbrand.
Interestingly, my comic dealer, then, was mortified by the former, whilst just fine with the latter. In retrospect, that's the moment our relationship turned toward is eventual demise.
