  • Welcome to day 31 of my Wim Hof challenge. Every morning for the last 31 days, I did a series of breathing exercises and breath-holds. This will admittedly be a little boring to watch but I recorded my last one today where I held my breath for 7 minutes. You will see what is known as "Involuntary Breathing Movements" of the diaphragm, kick in and ramp up as I approach the 7-minute mark. This was followed by a maximum set of breath-hold push ups and finally a normal shower that ended with a progressively longer cold-shower finish (today's cold shower was 1:50). You can always fast forward to the last 30 or so seconds to really see how powerful the diaphragm contracts in attempt to restore breathing.
    Why did I do this?
I set it as a personal challenge and wanted to see how far I could push by body and mind in 31 days. Additionally, this whole process has a whole host of benefits including improved immune function, improving concentration, energy and reduction of stress and inflammation. The main focus is the breathing and the rest will follow. We will go where our breathing goes. It is difficult to describe the feeling when holding your breath like this but you eventually reach a point where your body feels like it "dropped" into a new state and a wave of relaxation comes over you. I NEVER felt like I was about to pass out but instead finished with a rush of mental clarity even though time started to feel like it was standing still. I started to wear the pulse oximeterr on my finger because I was curious about what my oxygen saturation was doing. Most interestingly, after finishing a breath-hold, you don't really feel out of breath. A couple deep breaths is all it takes to feel fine again as oxygen saturation levels start to climb back up.
