Part of this hit so incredibly hard at home, and I NEVER expected that when I started this video. “Don’t let your parents addiction be something that controls your life, too.” When I was growing up, my parents were very hardcore opioid addicts, I was born addicted to opioids. But, at one point, these were really good people. My dad was a pediatrician, graduated from John’s Hopkins, my mom was a paralegal. Brilliant people. Genuinely. But I held alot of resentment towards my mom after my dad’s death when I was 14. I was very angry with her, and blamed her for all of my problems. Now, at 26, I see things at a worlds difference. Just from pure life experience, and then struggling with addiction and being ABLE to recover (which I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS wish that my parents had more resources. More options. My mom really lost hope after my dad died). I know so much more now, and see things 1000% differently than I ever did as a kid. She passed away when I was 19, both of my parents dying from drug related organ failure over a very short timeframe. I am incredibly happy for JD that he got to see his mom get clean. I’m happy for his mom that she got to see the other side of life, and Did recover. I think the way he talks about her addiction, especially when he was a kid, is just so relatable for myself personally and I’m sure so many other children of addicts.
I’m so sorry that you lost both your parents. Please know, you will be able to be reunited with them again, without addiction and pain and suffering. There is a second chance and I firmly believe that God has a huge heart for all people, but especially for the ones that suffered a ton, or are suffering a ton, while here on earth. I don’t think the church teaches that enough and why it’s important to just focus on a personal relationship with God, Jesus, away from the religion and politics of it all. Also, congratulations on your recovery, I believe you said you struggled too with addiction but overcame it? You should be proud of yourself, I’m proud of you, truly! And I know your parents are! I definitely like his down-to-earth background and hearing about his family story. But remember, he's a charming politician. It doesn't take much to start seeing some serious flaws in what he says. For example, Trump lost the last election...and yet Vance still won't admit that in any conversation I've heard from him. Here's another...Trump had more former lobbyists in his administration than Obama. So don't buy their grift when they talk about draining the swamp. Vance had integrity when he correctly called out Trump's issues back in the day. I don't trust this new version that can't stand firm on basic principles like the peaceful transfer of power.

Being enmeshed in an addicted family dynamic is extremely hard to extricate yourself from. It took me decades and came at great personal, psychological, and financial cost. Happy to say I am in a much better place now :)

If I didn’t get clean when I did, I’ would’ve been ☠️. Months after I got out of rehab, My ex dealer called me saying how Much stuff he had and the price was cut almost down by 70-80%. He said he was getting it right and left. Guess who was in office at this time 🧐. I don’t like Trump in the beginning, I was one of them, until I realized it was b/c of him he slowed down the trafficking of dope by closing The border and Biden and Kamala is the reason my ex dealer has unlimited amount of dope at Pennie’s in the dollar. Thank you Trump, I owe you my life and my future w/ my boys. Thank you so much. Right now I’m, literally, in tears thinking about how much he saved my life. Trump Is family to me. I find it hilarious that a couple weeks ago I was talking to my mother because she had just finished reading the book hillbilly elegy. She was going on about how she swears she changed the diapers of the author when he was a kid. She's about the same age as Vance's mother and remembers her quite well because she lived a block down the road from them and can remember her bringing over her little son whenever she would come hang out. My mother does not follow politics in the slightest and when I mentioned to her that that's literally the guy that's running for vice president for the Republicans she died laughing. I’m a Marine Vet, grew up with a mom and dad that were addicted to drugs and alcohol, both gone now, 317 days sober myself, and living in Ohio. I had heard of JD before he was selected as the VP candidate and I liked him before. I love him now. I hope to meet him and work with him my career at some point. I have also been a fan of Theo for a hot minute now and I have to say, the brave step to be real, humble, and honest about life and the things we experience as normal folk, it’s so awesome to see. This episode was so real and I am so thankful I watched.
This changed my view on JD quite a bit. As somebody who works in the federal government it is a breath of fresh air to see a guy that is just a normal dude fighting for what he believes. Great interview!

Aside from coming off as the least weird politician that I've seen ever, the most impressive thing to me was when Theo lost track of his thoughts, and JD was able to give a bread crumb trail to lead Theo back to his point. That shows someone who is actually listening and engaged and we do not get enough of that in politicians these days! He's setting up a case for future presidential consideration for sure.
Theo is doing more to decipher modern politics than anyone has done in the last decade. He is helping all Americans understand the system. Vote for who you want but understand how these people work.

Here is one thing I've learned in my 44 years on this earth: Whenever I feel like I need a drink - I shouldn't drink that drink. It has never ever improved anything for me. At best it has done nothing for me - at worst it has worsened already bad situations. If you are not an addict - like I am not - drink to be happy and social ONLY! There is no situation alcohol or drugs can fix... It might make you forget for a very short while, however what you temporarily forgot will always come back to you - and sometimes 10 times as hard - and sometimes with added problems!
It’s not an issue of the feeling. It’s an issue of escape from issues and responsibilities called a vice. All humans have them alcohol and drugs just make our bodies chemically addicted to them after abuse. Making it insanely hard to quit leading to hellish nights you couldn’t dream of.

I am however well aware that this doesn't help people who are already addicted, however on the flip side of that you could say that the easiest way to not be an addict is to never start the addiction in the first place.. right? This isn't meant to be a lecture - but rather a small piece of advice warning people that it's not a path which leads anywhere good. No judgement on those who are addicted to stuff though.

I read his book years ago and then listened on audiobook - he reads it. I highly recommend listening and while doing so, keep in mind he had no plans to run for office when he wrote it. So good!

Now as a liberal independent, I was very intrigued when I saw Vance was Trump’s VP. What stood out to me was how Theo was quoting Bernie over and over and JD Vance was respectful and interested and agreed where he thought Bernie was right, even though Bernie is on "the wrong side of the aisle." That's humility and intellectual honesty and I'm ready to vote Vance in 2028

I too know the struggles o watching a loved one battle their own demons and I'm so proud to call this man our Vice President. AFAIK some of the smartest guys in Trump's inner orbit recommended Vance. Trump was hesitant initially but listened to their advice. That's the mark of a good leader.

Came into this interview as a neutralist (only because I hadn’t heard an interview from JD) and within the first ten minutes my intuition is clear on how much JD is a true man of the people. Such a transparent person and natural connection with him. WOW! I love how our collective has grown to welcome and embrace such an authentic person. Profound respect.
Seriously, Theo knows how to host a good conversation but a good guest is what makes it great. Id only seen a little bit of JDs stuff and this really impressed me. Really opening up and talking about some serious issues that you'll hear very few politicians talk about ever. Definitely paints a stark contrast between conversations being had by other specific politicians that are just the same old surface level, scripted bs. People need to see this and hopefully it makes them show a demand for more conversations like this from people in powerful positions.

Long time listener and just wanted to drop a message. Because of the conversations had on this podcast, I was able to spend the last few months of my mother’s life openly forgiving her and being there for her in the end times of her life that she lost to lung cancer. Background: my mother had 4 children very young and has been an addict off and on her entire life. I moved out at 16 and lived the dark life for a couple years myself, but eventually became a critical care RN, and just recently a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Growing up, we lived in 15+ places growing up and in and out of the projects/family members basements or spare rooms, and also moved schools constantly. Just wanted to let you know that your Pod has been a source of therapy for a normal guy from Middle TN who is too prideful to go to actual therapy. Thanks dude

God dude. Part of this hit so incredibly hard at home, and I NEVER expected that when I started this video.
“Don’t let your parents addiction be something that controls your life, too.” When I was growing up, my parents were very hardcore opioid addicts, I was born addicted to opioids. But, at one point, these were really good people. My dad was a pediatrician, graduated from John’s Hopkins, my mom was a paralegal. Brilliant people. Genuinely.
But I held alot of resentment towards my mom after my dad’s death when I was 14. I was very angry with her, and blamed her for all of my problems. Now, at 26, I see things at a worlds difference. Just from pure life experience, and then struggling with addiction and being ABLE to recover (which I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS wish that my parents had more resources. More options. My mom really lost hope after my dad died). I know so much more now, and see things 1000% differently than I ever did as a kid. She passed away when I was 19, both of my parents dying from drug related organ failure over a very short timeframe.
I am incredibly happy for JD that he got to see his mom get clean. I’m happy for his mom that she got to see the other side of life, and Did recover.
I think the way he talks about her addiction, especially when he was a kid, is just so relatable for myself personally and I’m sure so many other children of addicts.
I’m so sorry that you lost both your parents. Please know, you will be able to be reunited with them again, without addiction and pain and suffering. There is a second chance and I firmly believe that God has a huge heart for all people, but especially for the ones that suffered a ton, or are suffering a ton, while here on earth. I don’t think the church teaches that enough and why it’s important to just focus on a personal relationship with God, Jesus, away from the religion and politics of it all. Also, congratulations on your recovery, I believe you said you struggled too with addiction but overcame it? You should be proud of yourself, I’m proud of you, truly! And I know your parents are! Keep up the good work; you’re doing so well in life! ❤️💯👏👏

Being enmeshed in an addicted family dynamic is extremely hard to extricate yourself from. It took me decades and came at great personal, psychological, and financial cost. Happy to say I am in a much better place now :)

I’m a recovering addicted and I thank Trump for my recovery. I got clean at the end of trumps administration b/c my drug of choice was so hard to get out so expensive. If I didn’t get clean when I did, I’ would’ve been ☠️. Months after I got out of rehab, My ex dealer called me saying how Much stuff he had and the price was cut almost down by 70-80%. He said he was getting it right and left. Guess who was in office at this time 🧐. I don’t like Trump in the beginning, I was one of them, until I realized it was b/c of him he slowed down the trafficking of dope by closing The border and Biden and Kamala is the reason my ex dealer has unlimited amount of dope at Pennie’s in the dollar. Thank you Trump, I owe you my life and my future w/ my boys. Thank you so much. Right now I’m, literally, in tears thinking about how much he saved my life. Trump Is family to me. The whole time my boys and my husband were Trump supporters and I thought they were crazy. I was the one who was brainwashed, not them.

Yeah. I found it weird when Walz called him weird. He is the most regular American that has run on a major presidential platform in a long time. I find it hilarious that a couple weeks ago I was talking to my mother because she had just finished reading the book hillbilly elegy. She was going on about how she swears she changed the diapers of the author when he was a kid. She's about the same age as Vance's mother and remembers her quite well because she lived a block down the road from them and can remember her bringing over her little son whenever she would come hang out. My mother does not follow politics in the slightest and when I mentioned to her that that's literally the guy that's running for vice president for the Republicans she died laughing. She had no idea that she's changed the diapers of what is probably going to be our future president in 2028 🤣🤣🤣🤣

But I hope that their success means that the Democrats have to pull out an actual populist leader, instead of continually trying these establishment dummies. I'm also glad that Vance seems to debate like a normal politician, which would hopefully mean you lot will return to choosing candidates with a little more respect, like Vance... I’m a Marine Vet, grew up with a mom and dad that were addicted to drugs and alcohol, both gone now, 317 days sober myself, and living in Ohio. I had heard of JD before he was selected as the VP candidate and I liked him before. I love him now. I hope to meet him and work with him my career at some point. I have also been a fan of Theo for a hot minute now and I have to say, the brave step to be real, humble, and honest about life and the things we experience as normal folk, it’s so awesome to see. This episode was so real and I am so thankful I watched.

I started crying in my work van and had to stop and call my mom who's also clean now. I’m a recovering addicted and I thank Trump for my recovery. I got clean at the end of trumps administration b/c my drug of choice was so hard to get out so expensive. If I didn’t get clean when I did, I’ would’ve been ☠️. Months after I got out of rehab, My ex dealer called me saying how Much stuff he had and the price was cut almost down by 70-80%. He said he was getting it right and left. Guess who was in office at this time 🧐. I don’t like Trump in the beginning, I was one of them, until I realized it was b/c of him he slowed down the trafficking of dope by closing The border and Biden and Kamala is the reason my ex dealer has unlimited amount of dope at Pennie’s in the dollar. Thank you Trump, I owe you my life and my future w/ my boys. Thank you so much. Right now I’m, literally, in tears thinking about how much he saved my life. Trump Is family to me. The whole time my boys and my husband were Trump supporters and I thought they were crazy. I was the one who was brainwashed, not them.

Here is one thing I've learned in my 44 years on this earth:
Whenever I feel like I need a drink - I shouldn't drink that drink. It has never ever improved anything for me. At best it has done nothing for me - at worst it has worsened already bad situations.
If you are not an addict - like I am not - drink to be happy and social ONLY! There is no situation alcohol or drugs can fix... It might make you forget for a very short while, however what you temporarily forgot will always come back to you - and sometimes 10 times as hard - and sometimes with added problems!
It’s not an issue of the feeling. It’s an issue of escape from issues and responsibilities called a vice. All humans have them alcohol and drugs just make our bodies chemically addicted to them after abuse. Making it insanely hard to quit leading to hellish nights you couldn’t dream of.

If we are talking about it in relation to addicts then it's a totally different issue for sure. The "trick" is to never associate drugs and alcohol with "the solution" to your problems to begin with. I am however well aware that this doesn't help people who are already addicted, however on the flip side of that you could say that the easiest way to not be an addict is to never start the addiction in the first place.. right? This isn't meant to be a lecture - but rather a small piece of advice warning people that it's not a path which leads anywhere good. No judgement on those who are addicted to stuff though.

From the UK here, so no skin in the US political game, Vance seems like an honest and open guy, very likeable and relatable, good to see. Hope he does well.
Fellow Brit here, I’m absolutely fascinated with this election, more so than any previous one, probably due to the times we live in. I wish we had a Trump/Vance collab over here rather than 2-tier Keir and the Ginger Growler.

I too know the struggles o watching a loved one battle their own demons and I'm so proud to call this man our Vice President. Finally a politician who understands what this country has been dealing with on an unprecedented scale. May The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob protect President Trump and Vice President Vance and their families, protect and enlighten our countrymen. Unify us as Americans. AFAIK some of the smartest guys in Trump's inner orbit recommended Vance. Trump was hesitant initially but listened to their advice. That's the mark of a good leader.

Seriously, Theo knows how to host a good conversation but a good guest is what makes it great. Id only seen a little bit of JDs stuff and this really impressed me. Really opening up and talking about some serious issues that you'll hear very few politicians talk about ever. Definitely paints a stark contrast between conversations being had by other specific politicians that are just the same old surface level, scripted bs. People need to see this and hopefully it makes them show a demand for more conversations like this from people in powerful positions.

Something interesting for you to know: Vivek Ramaswamy, who knew J.D. Vance while both were at Yale Law School, calls Vance an “an earnest guy ... somebody who was always sincere.”
Ramaswamy adds: “We’ve all, in different ways, lived the American dream.”

Long time listener and just wanted to drop a message.
Because of the conversations had on this podcast, I was able to spend the last few months of my mother’s life openly forgiving her and being there for her in the end times of her life that she lost to lung cancer.
Background: my mother had 4 children very young and has been an addict off and on her entire life. I moved out at 16 and lived the dark life for a couple years myself, but eventually became a critical care RN, and just recently a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Growing up, we lived in 15+ places growing up and in and out of the projects/family members basements or spare rooms, and also moved schools constantly.
Just wanted to let you know that your Pod has been a source of therapy for a normal guy from Middle TN who is too prideful to go to actual therapy.
