    You done good, thank you. I found that adding a lavalier mic with the wireless RodeME taped underneath my shirt produces the best results. It was VERY noticeable difference in your video, the background noise was cut in half if not more with your last test. Thank for your time and again good video.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, the creaking noise from spinning the GoPro to face the front or back is a problem with the internal mics -- using external mics like the Saramonic are great for eliminating that, plus blocking wind. The Rode Wireless mic is definitely our favorite for the best quality sound, although it takes a bit of extra setup + $$ for that one. Thanks for watching!

      If you have time to wait, perhaps hold on a couple more months and see what the flip screen monitor looks and performs like. We have high hopes for that being the key piece to make the Media Mod worth the purchase....until then, I think you're right that you can either go with the Media Mod or the old mic adapter and be fine either way.

    What was the gain setting on the Road Wireless Go? Also, you can pick up the media mod for $55 if you sign up for GoPro Plus, which is free for 30 days ...if you cancel afterwards you’ve got the Media Mod (and any other accessories you buy at a discount) for a more reasonable price.

    At 7:15 you point out with the Edutige mic, that you can only point backwards, and the Rode Video Micro can only point forward. Would it be a possible solution to just "use both" in the same setup.
    I would imagine that you could leave the Rode Video Micro attached to your setup facing forward, and then when you want to vlog from behind the camera, instead of trying to struggle with the Video Micro to turn it around, you could just unplug the Micro, plug the Edtige to film from behind the camera, and the switch back when you are back "in front" with the Micro. Is that something that would be feasible, or is there too much involved with that setup/swap method?
    I am new to vlogging, so I'm legit curious if that would work?

      The Edutige is a suprisingly great microphone, but it doesn't work well if you use the Media Mod since the microphone points backwards. The Saramonic is a good alternative that is compact, affordable, and can be pointed in any direction. However, the very best sound quality comes from the Rode VideoMicro and Wireless Go -- both are more pricey. The VideoMicro can also be rather bulky if you add the windscreen.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  3 роки тому +1

      If you want to add any external mic to the GoPro, you need a mic adapter -- either the official mic adapter sold by GoPro, or the GoPro Media Mod. Both are pricey, but they work reliably well. Any cheap alternatives won't work. If you get the official mic adapter from GoPro, you'll also need a cage to hold it. @ScruffyCityFishing 2 роки тому

      @@Gemini_Connect through some trial and error I it figured out. A 3 stripe is a TRRS plug and a 2 stripe is a TRS. So.. tip, ring sleeve.. or tip ring ring sleeve. My lav mic came with an adapter to take it from TRRS to a TRS. The media mod only works with the TRS adapter being used. This pushes the connection out from the back of the camera quite a ways.. going to need a right angle adapter.

      Maybe check the connection of the USB-C part from the Media Mod to the GoPro? If it isn't tightly connected, that can interfere with microphone performance. Also, make sure your GoPro is running on the latest firmware.

    Which setup do you guys personally prefer? How is the build quality of the media mod? With the media mod it looks lot cleaner and less bulkier set up to me.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  3 роки тому

      The Media Mod is well built and is pretty reliable. However, it is a bit of a hassle to access the battery and memory card as it requires taking the whole setup apart. Overall though, we use the Media Mod all the time now when using an external microphone.

    Thank you for a great review! Can't beat the sound quality of the good Rode microphone... unfortunately, with a big Rode mic, you sacrifice the whole purpose of the action camera. From your review, it kind of sounds like the quality of the media mod mic is not any more superior to the quality of the built in mic.

    Do you guys get POPPING + STATIC noise on the media mod even with wifi connection off?

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  4 роки тому

      Hmmm...no, we haven't heard that before. Maybe the GoPro isn't fully connected to the USB-C plug? We've done that several times and when it happens, the Media Mod mics don't turn on properly.

      Gemini Connect ahh just figured out when it happens. stereo mode! looks like a major issue on the gopro forums.

    What would you recommend me that will give me if not the same but as near as iPhone audio quality on my Hero 8 & 11? ua-cam.com/video/Zu8Doi2AtA4/v-deo.html this the type of content I create which I basically place the GoPro on the plane’s window with the suction cup. I want better audio but of course I need noise control with the muff and a mic that’s multi directional like the iPhone and gives me iPhone audio quality 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Another option I’m considering is not buying any mic and just turn off the GPs wind noise reduction setting and stick small wind muffs or foams on the built in mics, but I don’t know if the audio will still be trash😅

    Rode Video Micro is not a shotgun mic (it's cardioid). And neither is the GoPro Media Mod mic (it's omnidirectional).

    Media mod is trash, 90% of the time I try and connect a mic to it it still records off the trash mod mic. I have tried everyway possible to reach gopro but all I get is the run around.. Tons of people on the forums saying they are having the same issue..

    Not much difference between the Media Mod and the internal mic, maybe in big winds it would be more useful.

    • @GeminiDiscover
      @GeminiDiscover 4 роки тому +1

      The main difference we see is the ability to better control the front-facing or back-facing mic with the Media Mod. Without it, the internal mics seem to work equally.

    has anyone else been getting a buzzing sound in the background while using the media mod in stereo mode? anybody know a fix for this? example: ua-cam.com/video/diYLPBHSN8s/v-deo.html

      Yes it's annoying, you can get around it by directed the mic to either front or back but in stereo mode it makes this buzzing noise

    Rode wireless go wins with internal mic and with a Rode lab mic! The media mode is a disaster, Gopro want us to pay 80 big ones for a 3mm jack, but then again I want the smallest compact size blog set up, I'm really unhappy with that 50,00 dollars twinkie adaptor, then we have to buy the cage, plus mic, you back up to 100 dollars, I'm so torn as to what to get.urgh...

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  4 роки тому

      We agree that the Wireless Go is the winner in terms of sound quality. The Media Mod puts all of us in an interesting position -- if you don't get it, then you have to spend almost as much money to buy the old mic adapter and a cage to hold it. Honestly not sure how moving in this direction will turn out for GoPro...

    So media mod is suited more for older gopro's, it have wore sound than Hero 8 which have best sound quality from all action cams till now.
    Gopro color renders ugly pale orange skintones, recording on flat and adding contrast in post makes better image.
    Add visible chapters on timeline, where you switch the mics, please. Text description is also very helpfull.
