Great analysis as always. Your stats are turning a lot of WR's arguments for rule changes on it's head. Hope old Bill Beaumont is watching this.

Interesting that Tries and Clean Breaks are almost perfect copies of each other :)
Surprised the 6N average attendance is so far ahead of the World Cup, given WC was held in France.
    Thanks for good video :)

Saying the South African attendances were good this year is an understatement
Every single international game of rugby played in SA this year sold out. Every single one. Even Portugal

Yeah man doing really well at international level for attendances. I remember one year where SA v ARG in Durban only had 20 something thousand - massive difference now

I think stats would be better saved until next year, once the 6N teams have had a year under the new laws. I feel the speeding up of games due to limiting time for line outs, scrums and kicks at goal, may speed things up a tad and open the game up a little more. Would be interesting to see if the "ball in play" time had improved in TRC do to the laws

I think population density might play a role too. If you looked at the radio of attendance to population I suspect you might find it's higher for the southern nations. This also correlates to the South African games having such a good turn out as well. I haven't looked at the data closely but it seems to fit after a quick googling of the national populations. Ireland, Wales, and Scotland have smaller populations but their proximity and ease of access for the away teams compensates for that.

Here's something I need to as a Kiwi.
Why, when they tour Ireland, do NZ ALWAYS play a Munster selection and NEVER play a Leinster selection when Leinster have been the dominant team in Ireland for about fifteen years? (BTW Springboks also seem to want to play the weaker Munster franchise rather than the stronger Leinster team...)

    • @DrKimMuntanga

It could be because they make up most of the Ireland squard playing them will be like playing Ireland twice

It's to honor a great moment in rugby history when Munster were the first and only team in Ireland to hold a victory over the ABs. For decades. We hold nz rugby on such high regard in Ireland that it's a target of where we wanted to be, and we are tasting a bit of that today. I'd love to see nz v leinster but it's a good thing to keep a bit of a legendary ( on our side at least)story in rugby going and Munster v nz is a tradition

    • @silversolver7809

While Leinster have the best team, Munster are the best club-truly an iconic club in world rugby history and lore.
Not only are Munster the first Irish team to beat the All Blacks, how many other clubs have also beaten the Boks and Wallabies? Leinster's best wins are Italy and USA-and they have played all 4 RC countries in the past, FYI Leinster have played NZ 5 times in 20th century.
While Munster only have that one fabulous win-just for interest, how many teams hold the ABs scoreless?-it was against Graham Mourie's otherwise all-conquering team, the first AB team to get a slam v the 4 home countries.
Overall, Munster have a great record against the major international touring teams.
      Barbarians: 1 2-score win.
      All Blacks: 8 games, 1 2-score win, 1 draw, 3 1-score losses, 1 2-score loss, 2 bigger losses.
      Maori ABs: 1 2-score win-Crusaders: 1 1-score win.
      Boks: 4 games, 1 2-score win, 1 1-score loss, 1 2-score loss, 1 3-score loss.
      Wallabies: 9 games, 2 1-score wins, 2 2-score wins, 1 draw, 2 1-score losses, 1 2-score loss, 1 huge loss.
      Pumas: 1 draw.
So out of 24 games, only 4 big losses-balanced out by 9 wins and 3 draws for a 9-3-12 record.

I kinda feel bad for the Argentina attendance this was one of their best years shame a lot of people didn’t watch em do so well, but yeah six nations is timeless makes sense really plus it was the first Ireland championship win without sexton in the team so a big statement there despite them losing to England

I will always have a soft spot for Los Pumas. In fact, I think all Saffers do. It's a massive pity that the British & Irish Lions don't get to play them. Perhaps the B&I Lions should always start off their tours with a once-off test in Argentina.

It’s not a bad idea actually, we need more international tests then just the autumn and summer nations and England have a pretty good rivalry going on there, Argentina we’re close to winning the bronze in the last World Cup but good ol England got the job done thankfully, I cannot wait for our match against the all blacks on the 2nd of November

    • @AbeHopwood
      @AbeHopwood 3 години тому +2

In what way? They've only lost to South africa and England, both games away. And they never lacked discipline against England, both teams were playing non stop good rugby. And against SA they arguably kept getting better and better as that game went on. So I'm not sure what performance you're referring to.

The 6 nations refs are obviously not as stricted as the Rugby Championship refs are. If the referees were refereeing the other competition the discipline would be the other way round because the refs followed different rules instead of the same rules.

  • @peadarr

It might not be easy for you to do but for a lot of the 6N stats, it would make sense to remove games against the bottom two sides.
Blow outs from 1st v 6th skew the averages so it might not be comparing apples with apples

Been to lots of both being an expat, so I'll give you my honest 2cents..
The rugby is more enjoyable to watch, especially for neutrals in RC (tho the 6nations has been slowly improving, still not caught up) as your stats show. The quality is just better in RC.
But other than the atmosphere in South Africa for the SA vs ABs games (which is as good as any ✈️🎉) the RC in general is way behind in atmosphere, tribalism, marketing and the game day experience. You can say the stadiums are smaller but OZ and NZ don't even sell out the smaller stadiums, tickets are super expensive with barely any atmosphere inside the stadium..and outside the stadium before or after the games is even worse.
Summary: Just watch the RC on TV unless you're in SA.
Go to the games in 6nations, especially the away games for a great weekend not just the game itself.
Also I've noticed the smarter kiwi fans know exactly how reliant the RC is on SA being in the comp, but the Sky pundits/NZR are clueless to this fact.
If SA leaves, the RC is a dead duck!

I think you’re wrong on the atmosphere in Aus. Both anthems song with such enthusiasm and cheers for every little thing.
I saw Aussie and bok supports chatting away all night. Was a really good atmosphere. Even tho we lost I left happy.
I was at the game in Perth tho, can’t speak for the east coast.
