    Just leaving that here:
Jesse Owens, the American track and field athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, is often remembered for his interaction with Adolf Hitler. During the games, Hitler was initially seen congratulating some athletes but did not greet Owens or other non-German athletes.
However, Owens later expressed that he did not feel personally slighted by Hitler. In interviews, Owens recounted that Hitler waved at him, and he waved back, interpreting the gesture as a form of recognition. Owens also remarked that while Hitler's failure to personally congratulate him was noticeable, he felt more snubbed by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who did not invite him to the White House or publicly acknowledge his achievements.

Like track and field, its the defacto most common and staple of the olympics due to its history. but after the olympics track and field withers away. Idk if just due to coverage and the lack of leagues or competition but i think it also has to do with the nature of the sport. Its not as fun to watch like the ball sports and combat sports. Money generated in sport, mainly stems from public interest.
If there aren't enough people who are interested in the sport, then sponsors won't care to be attached to it.
Hence why football (soccer in the US) generates so much money, most of the world's population take an interest in the sport.
As with the Olympics, every four years people invest time into watching it. Some disciplines more than others, which is why Runners, swimmers and gymnasts tend to be better sponsored.

That’s not the point I’m making. I’m well aware that not every Olympian should get paid the same, because not every Olympic sport draws in the same amount of viewership. When Usain Bolt was still competing, obviously there were significantly more people willing to watch him run than you’d have people watching archery.
The point is that the Olympics generate up to 7 Billion dollars, yet the IOC sees fit to not pay Olympians anything AT ALL.
No movie in history has made that much revenue in one go.
Yet you have actors who get payed several millions for just one movie. The point I’m making is the IOC SHOULD be paying athletes directly, and how much athletes should be payed should obviously depend on what kind of viewership they generate.
But for the athletes not to be payed anything directly by the IOC is the IOC simply just exploiting the athletes.
Could you imagine if movie studios simply didn’t pay actors any money directly, and actors had to make money through sponsorships only ?
You can’t have a movie without actors (even voice actors get paid), that’s why they are paid. In the same vein you can’t have the Olympics without the athletes, so the IOC should be paying athletes!

Each of those athletes spent thousands of hours training and are the best of their respective countries. You know what? Just as a simple good faith gesture, the IOC should give everyone who shows up twenty thousand dollars, no questions asked. Taekwondo bronze medallist? 20K. 8th-place men's gymnast in the individual all-around? 20K. Sprinter who false started in the semis of the 100m? 20K. Couldn't compete at all due to injury or being shuffled out of the lineup? Hey, still glad you could make it, enjoy your time here and your 20K. It would ease the burden for those who needed it the most, but more importantly, it would make the whole experience a lot _nicer,_ dangit.

Athletes salaries are directly related to advertise revenue and marketing potential. There is no other underlying relevant aspect of this at all. Its literally just a matter of "you get paid based on how much money you can bring in". Generally speaking of course as with anything in the world, there are edgecases here and there.

Communist countries such as China or North Korea provide free top quality training, shelter,, food, medical care and education as well as a stipend for the athlete and the family in exchange for the dedication to the sport. This is how they end up hoarding almost all the gold medals in almost every sport they engage in. When the games are over and the athlete is now past their prime, they can continue working for the sports ministry or study for free at the college of their choice. Americans receive almost nothing and are expected to front the bulk of the costs: for example your parents must pay for your private gymnastics coach and if you win, you might get a contract for advertisement purposes. Most don't make anything, only a very few make good money out of it but only for a few years. It all depends on how financially popular your sport is.

The US has by far the most gold and total medal count. US-2667
      China-637
      USSR-1009
Even Britain has 938 with a tiny population compared to China. So, IDK if they can really compete. North Korea was so low I didn't feel like scrolling that far down.

This video also talk about Olympics athletes like they just don’t do anything outside the Olympics when most of them are employed in sport federation all over the world and participate in many competition unrelated to the Olympics.

The video said that in the U.S. 80% of the athletes live at or below minimum wage. A lot of sports don't have options to have employment from federations or lucrative sponsorship deals. This isn't some hidden secret that athletes don't know about, it just doesn't exist. I was once one of those athletes, I was on the U.S. national team, I was 28 with no real job, I only had the support of my parents. The events I competed in gave $500 to the winner and came on a very rare occasion. That doesn't cover food, rent, travel, coaches, facility rental, equipment or equipment repair. The U.S. gave me a jersey to compete in. My teammate had 4 roommates to be able to afford rent. It is expensive to try to qualify for the olympics.

Olympics is literally at the mercy of the host country and many countries are just not taking the responsibility for this because it never makes any money but they have to build a whole ass city for it to be never used after the Olympics are done. unless Olympics makes itself sustainable in a decade I don't think there will be any Olympics conducted by the official body of Olympics
