Not worth the price. You can achieve the basic same sound for a lot less. Hell, for basically one fifth of the price, you can buy a Boss pedalboard that can do so much more. As P. T. Barnum had famously stated "there's a sucker born every minute."
Cobain never used an Overdrive pedal. He used Distortion pedals. His main 2 were the Boss DS-1 and the Rat. He used a Boss DS-2 Turbo on the In Utero album.
Please stop using the outrageous resale prices of greedy speculators as the price-point. Bill always sold his pedals for a reasonable price, considering the care that went into them and the build quality. If he had the money to use pick-and-place surface mount technology, and cheap pots (and good pots are key to the functioning of the Gain control), I imagine he could probably also turn a profit selling a pedal for $69. If a person phoned Bill to order a Klon Centaur, he would engage in a 20-minute conversation, assessing their rig and whether a Klon would be useful. I don't know that he ever outright refused to sell to anyone, but if he found the caller's rig and playing style would not benefit from the pedal, he would not encourage purchase and maybe even discourage it. That "triage" ate into his build time and was partially responsible for the long wait time. Buyers who didn't know how to use it properly would realize they could make some money by flipping it to people who had more money than patience, and the resale prices continued to escalate. Bill's only role in this was not cranking them out by the thousands. To boot, anyone who bought a flipped Klon at an inflated price would not get the "screening" and advice that Bill would always provide to his customers. Naturally, being underinformed about what it could (and couldn't) do, and having unrealistic expectations, resale buyers would be irritated by how much it had cost them, and then turn around and flip it again. Seventeen years ago, Bill sent me two ungooped boards to work on something for him. The build quality was exceptional. But it is NOT a distortion pedal. It was designed to condition the signal in a way to give a tube amp the right kind of push to break up sweetly, and NOT to provide an overdrive or distortion sound of its own.
Ok that’s all fine and dandy but why didn’t Bill find someone to build these to his specs and build quality so I can actually purchase something from the guy who designed it? Where is Bill in all this and why can’t I buy a new KTR???
Bill made them till he didn’t want to make them any more … seams fair enough … Beringer could have done a replica but name and logo … that’s just uncouth .. any way plenty of nods to the original out there but this ain’t cool really … fitting though for Beringer
@bobbyarthurmagic i paid 300 bucks for mine i see theyre selling for 750 and up , I had no idea , I'm selling mine. I have played a real vintage klon, it sounded the same as my KTR and my soulfood , I honestly don't even use it, I'm unimpressed with the sound, it just sounds like an amp with some gain.
@@badbrad It sounds good, but the mythology of the Centaur that drove prices up to $10K is flat out ridiculous, for $69 it's a fair price. I'll probably price one up when they're back in stock. If I do, I'll use your Sweetwater link.
Ya they should stop , it’s not cool … one thing to replicate or make a replica in Essence but taking name and logo this is sheer ignorance and surprised any musician would support that as much as you would like me to rip of your original song
@@bobbyarthurmagic - I can see that the temptation of availability and significantly lower prices is strong. When you consider that most of music stores’ sales are made to people who are not pro musicians, the legacy and cache of big-name instrument designers and manufacturers are less likely to outweigh the low price and functionality of products like these in the video. That company really done a number to synthesizers. You can buy an American Minimoog for $5000 or a B version of that for a tenth the price. Will the cheaper on last 40-50 years and cannot be repaired? Does it have the girth of a MM? Maybe not, but you might have to be a dentist to afford the real thing. Are most people going to save and wait ten time longer to buy the real thing? Even with tariffs (especially as they will definitely drive inflation way up on Americans), I don’t see America first re: manufacturing actually working. People will vote with their dollars. I just wish that the people who spend time, energy and creativity designing the original products (some were American and some were Japanese or German [Waldorph]) were being paid fair royalties for every Behringer unit that relies on their original work and reputation. Geez, if Pharrell had to pay for hinting at an original work….Why are copyright laws so far off?

Sounds just like a klon
Right on...
And it's cheaper than the build.Your own from JHS
Yes it is!
I have played a real klon, no different than my KTR
good to know...
KTR is up there now price wise as well aren’t they ?
@bobbyarthurmagic i paid 300 bucks for mine i see theyre selling for 750 and up , I had no idea , I'm selling mine. I have played a real vintage klon, it sounded the same as my KTR and my soulfood , I honestly don't even use it, I'm unimpressed with the sound, it just sounds like an amp with some gain.
$69 is a fair price for the most overrated pedal in the history of mankind.
I do like the sound of the pedal
@@badbrad It sounds good, but the mythology of the Centaur that drove prices up to $10K is flat out ridiculous, for $69 it's a fair price. I'll probably price one up when they're back in stock. If I do, I'll use your Sweetwater link.
Neither sounds that good. SRV would be awesome with any pedal.
Ok
its just 3 knobs lol
All ya need…
All you need is 3 knobs and the truth y'all
Behringer, the Napster of intellectual property.
Ya they should stop , it’s not cool … one thing to replicate or make a replica in Essence but taking name and logo this is sheer ignorance and surprised any musician would support that as much as you would like me to rip of your original song
If Bill from Klon would produce Centaurs I would buy one.
If you spent $500 on one of those things you'd be an idiot
Ok
