1998 version: silly & petty theft
2019: they definitely committed a murder
This is the original London version from 1981.
@@ayzecknozniksid3126 oh dear God no it's not. I'm sick if this being spread around. The only difference between the 81 Broadway and the 90s version was that it wasn't a duet. Mungojerrie sang alone while rumplteazer danced with him.
No, there are two very different versions of the song. Very different tune and music. I don’t really like the original version, but I like what they did with it in the movie.
@@calebsandorf so after some research I've learned there are 3 versions of the song. For some reason I always thought the London cast and the original Broadway were the same I've now learned otherwise. This version takes cues from the original westend version from before Andrew Lloyd Weber cleaned it up for Broadway. I can't fathom why he went back to the original when he changed it for a larger audience in the first place. Of course I can't fathom half of the decisions for this movie.
Fair enough 😂
i love how they have two completely different accents despite being twins in the same household
The same happens with rapunzel, so its quite common
Its was a bit weird when rumpleteazer's accent would just dissapear at the end of lines

@@hannahlarocco7467 They're referring to the 1998 version, where the Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer cartwheel as basically one body. It's looks and feels really awesome. You can find it on UA-cam really easily. Fun scene. Really cool choreography.
Trueeeee
Also known as "Two twins compete to see who can seduce the pretty cat first"
Isn't she supposed to be a kitten? Yeah the actress is a grown adult but kitten is still considered a child cat.
@@carsfan1995 In the stage production, the Ball is Victoria's Coming Of Age essentially, so she is an adult in the eyes of the tribe, even if she spends most of the musical with the kittens. However, in the movie, they are obviously portraying Victoria as an adult cat, and not as a kitten. You can actually see the kittens in Gus' song (Jellylorum, Syllabub, Coricopat, Tantomiile), but in the 2019 movie, Victoria is definitely not a kitten. She's simply naive, hence why she acts extremely innocent.
i thought they were trying to seduce each other, lol. I was seriously a threesome at some point in the song.
I want to die :V

There were actual people watching the movie?

Lmfaooo how'd you even see that
AHHHHHH!!!!!!
WTF XD
Byeeeeee😭😭
I saw that too
I liked the older version because it seemed as if they just did real petty theft (which my cat does) and made it out to be a big heist while in this one they literally seem as if they committed some horrible crime... (she threw a pin at her brother’s tail!) and also I loved how in the other one, how they said there names was really funny and I kept replaying the song when I heard because of the accents. But idk....
@Jordan Pollard what 💀
I'll admit it, not as disappointed with this scene as I thought I'd be. I just wish they'd used the better, more upbeat version from 1998 instead of the old slower, noir one.
And it get's a huge thumbs down for not including the famous double cartwheel.
This is more musical than the 98 one. Better singing and its more of an actual song. But i do love the cartwheel
@@LO-qd1xx It's not bad it's just.. kinda boring. I still prefer the '98 version over the '81 and 2020 version. It had a lot more character, I think.
@@crownclowncreations but the singing was kinda terrible and the song had no structure
@@LO-qd1xx I liked the singing, they showed more expression with there voices then they did here, however I will agree it’s a bit more musical here
@@goodmansteve2481 yeah. They were more lively in the other but in this their voices are much better
Why is one twin cockney and the other Irish?
I don't think they're siblings in this adaptation (They just look similar because they're both Calicos but if you look at their markings they're completely different)
I agree with Silent Soul, otherwise it’s just for comedy sake.
because. of the Americans
Maybe it’s a nod to Jo Gibb (Rumpleteazer from 1998 version) who wasn’t cockney and was in fact Scottish (of course Scottish and Irish aren’t the same thing)
@@muhvaerakay Scots and Irish come from the same cut of cloth though. I think some of the Scottish migrated and settled in Ireland?
I prefer the 1998 version of the song. Rumpleteazer was so cute in that one.
musicaly though i prefer the original that we see here because if u check the cd from the original london cast and then the broadway one u see the london one we hear here is so much more jazzier than broadway one we had in the previous film

I love the 1998 version of this part. Especially the cartwheel and the groove of the song just fits better in my mind 😅 I'm new to all this but I've been comparing both versions to try and make my decision on which is better, so far it's the old one that's winning.
Victoria during the entire song: *bisexual panic*
BAHAHAHHAAHAA
Victoria: *”Don’t be intimidated Vicky…”*
Rumpleteazer: Suddenly misses her wool worth pearls *puts pearl necklace on Victoria*
Victoria: *”OH NO SHE”S HOT!!”*

@@hahahajackmyswag apparently a thousand others did as well

Don’t blame the actress for using her Irish accent. It looks like it was a director’s choice. Both actors have portrayed these characters in London and on tour, and videos of them show that they both use the cockney accent.
I dont think cats are this small in real life...😂
Those are rats
@@veronikabasholova9419 agreed🤣
RIGHT
I think they are supossed to be kittens, kittens are really small
@Jessyca Zander Maybe 5× the normal size of a steak
Honestly, this and skimbleshanks are the only two songs the movie didn't completely violate
It think when closing your eyes and just listening to the music, Macavity's song's also ok-ish.
In my opinion only Skimbleshanks song is safe and someone creativily well done. And the guy singing is not a singer but a dancer
I thought this scene was actually very impressive visually. The sets are amazing and the CGI is much more realistic in this scene than in many other scenes.
You know, I was thinking that too. I don't know if the CGI artists had more time to work on this scene or what but it's actually quite beautiful.
I thought the problem you people had with this movie was that the cats looked too realistic
I personally like the way the cats look for the most part (we don’t talk about Rebel Wilson 😂)

@@rapidswelsa3306 huh, i always thought it was Rumpleteazer being jealous of him getting stuff for other girls, then again, i have no idea what they are, mates? twin siblings? close friends?
@@thanoswife1254 That works even better!
@@thanoswife1254 They're supposed to be twins i think
something that i really liked about the character design for these two is that it reads 'twins' perfectly. I still prefer the '98 costumes because humanoid cat beings fall right into uncanny valley, but it was pretty easy to mistake cats of a similar color, whereas in this movie you can see that the twins are actually mirrored opposites of each other, which would lead to them being mistaken for each other a lot.
Its really a shame about this movie. The choreography is not half bad, and all of the non-celebrity singing is pretty great.
Jennifer Hudson and Jason Derulo?
@@Lilyrush681 I don't know who Jason Derulo is, but JHud is more of a Broadway Celebrity (like Audra McDonald).
@@Nargon46 Jason Derulo played Rum Tum Tuggar in the film.He is known for singing his name in his hit songs. someone sang his name each time I saw this movie in the theater. I think he's underrated as a serious singer.
Jennifer Hudson and Jason DeRulo are both celebrities, and yet they also happen to be excellent singers.
@@t.e.burgos3263 not arguing that. Just that so far, majority of celebrities in movie musicals (unless they are broadway trained) don't have a very good track record. And again, JHud is more of a broadway star, like Audra McDonald.
Even though the stage version is better (obviously) at least they tried to do a different version of this song. All the other songs sound like bad versions of the original, this one has a different tone to it, so they deserve some credit for that.
I mean, technically this is the original song since it's the version done in London before the show was transferred to Broadway, but I know what you mean. :) It takes guts to come up with their own interpretation of a widely familiar song and put it out into the world.
Mmmmmm idk. The new tune sounds a lot like Sweet Charity's Big Spender.
this version of the song is more catchier than the VHS version
@@evesperling9784 This original version is all well and good, but the more familiar one is pretty hard to beat.
What? Even Skimbelshanks?!
I think Victoria is pretty

This movie doesnt do her justice. This is her first major movie and she got this trainwreck
@SwiftieCat17 check out her ballet stuff, she’s awesome
Victoria’s mannerisms are so cute !
You know? I thought I'd hate it. I treasure the '98 Mungo and Rumple so much. But I have to admit, the energy between the actors and the action and the choreography add an extra level of energy that I didn't expect. Still miss that quirkiness and bounciness that comes from the other version, but for what it is? Not as terrible as it could've been
if you put the video at 1.5 speed is kind of better for me in terms of it feeling more chearful and bouncy.
I very much enjoyed this scene, after a dissapointing rum tum tugger and rebel wilson I really do like Victoria and the twin's dynamic in this sequence, the set and all the other things
What movie did you see? Because this is pretty god-awful.
@@jollyolly34 I don't want to sound rude. Why do you think this was bad? The movie is not perfect and it lacks some spirit in some parts but is not horrible. What the op is mentioning is not the scene it self but picking the good things, the only problem with this movie is that tries to take itself like a Hollywood movie when it is a musical and that the cgi was bad. Apart from that, it's just... Cats.
@@jollyolly34 I should have put in the caveat that I haven't seen the whole movie yet. I've only seen clips of select songs like this. I'm a lifelong fan of the musical, specifically the 1998 filmed version, which has a very different iteration of this song that I still prefer over it. For what I know the movie is (and I'm not at all saying this in any way saves it from being a terrible film) I thought this would have been worse. I'm trying to give it a fair go on its own merit and say that I appreciate that this had more character and energy than I thought it would listening to the soundtrack initially. Mostly I want to give props to the performers and the set designers for clearly putting in the effort to make this as good as they could in their own power.
Is the cat-filter still uncanny-valley? Absolutely. 1000% nothing can make that decision a good one.
In the stage version they're much more cartoony villains, but this version makes them seem so devious and... seductive. Out of all the changes this adaptation made I suppose I'm okay with this one.
Actually This is a earlier Version of this song. Look for it on spotify.
This arrangement has grown on me, but I love the mischievous tone of the 1998 version forever
of the scenes I've seen so far this one is my favorite, there's an energy to it and it's got no weird interruptions
It’s what should’ve been done with the rest of the film; let the performers perform and let the numbers breathe.
Finally a scene in this movie where Rebel Wilson isnt popping out and making unfunny jokes and stuff

2:58 I’m in love with Mungojerrie’s accent 😍
I sounds like the girl playing Rumpelteazer is slipping out of an attempted British accent
The actress, Naoimh Morgan, is Irish.
same thing with Taylor Swift in this movie
Makes me wonder why the didn't dub her or let her sing in an Irish accent 😂 I know the characters are traditionally Cockney but they made Deuteronomy a woman so they can handle an Irish Rumpleteaser ffs

This is my favorite song in the 98 version but it lost the fun, jazzy, energetic qualities that made it so great
Kind of a disappointment like most of the other songs here 😕
I agree, mungojerrie and rumpleteazer is my favorite song besides memory! But in here its like what the hell happened to my twins? They sound like your aunt and uncle who both want to screw your cousin. And jemima isn't here.
Thank god.
I mean, the version that's better known uses the acoustic scale. I'm glad we have a performance of this version (apparently the original), but it belongs as a bonus track for historical interest.
Exactly! Whoever approved this version has no ear for music. I cringed through the entire piece.
Most of the songs sound really bad for a song perspective. It sounded like they were going offbeat and slipping their accents for no reason. Only a small handful are considered a pass, but only a small handful. Heck you could probably make these songs in My Singing Monsters Composer and get better results.
This version doesn't build up like the original does. The whole scene feels just... boring to me. The other version builds momentum leading up to the double cartwheel, then ends.
It's not as thrilling as the original but I like how they're making trouble while singing and dancing, Victoria is distracted by all the fun but will get into trouble
This part is actually good 😍😍 this might be my fave in the movie version
🎶♥️
I'm more partial to Skimbleshanks' number
Skimbleshanks' number isn't half bad either, it kinda slaps ngl
I’m kinda glad they used an older version of the songs instead of a completely new one. I wish Rumpleteazer’s melodic line wouldn’t be so repetitive in the original version it was more like a declamation but overall this was one of the few nice numbers because there wasn’t much CGI (except that dancing on the stairs, that looks baaad) but there were so many worse numbers than this
The duo in the 1998 musical was so much more lively
I loved those two
But this just felt a little blank
1:22
Mungojerrie laughing

These two... no wonder they're my favourite characters in the musical. I still prefer the 98 version of the characters, along with that version of their song, but this one is also pretty good as well (their number was one of the few that they nailed, when it come to the choreography, and partly the CGI). Still... they could have added that double cartwheel, we all love.

To be fair, watches can be tightened.
Not really the vfx department's fault, it's may be the people handling the props, and the director. They didn't give the right scales to the vfx department.
The vfx department didn't really have anything to do if the choreography needed to have that ring
Did you expected any sense or realism by watching this movie... I mean, body and faces... Body and faces...

There are SO MANY editing mistakes in this movie
These two remind me of the Siamese cats from “Lady and the Tramp”
Oh yea the 2019 verson yea they are my favourite
I just love how Victoria is just all for the rampaging. Lol it really shows her youth by how easily influenced she is.
And not just her youth but also how lonely she is. People with little to No friends are more likely to go along with these kinds of things because they’ve not yet understood there are some things that no friendship is worth.
I don’t understand the devoted CATS fans who complain that they changed this number. Even people who have been in the show are asking why it was changed. This IS the original version that Lloyd Webber composed. There are recordings of it when it was performed at his Sydmontom festival. This is also the version on the original London cast recording. There is a performance of this version performed by the original cast floating about on UA-cam. The version that everyone is familiar with was added for the Broadway production. So this isn’t a new version, he simply reinstalled the original setting.
It's not that bad guys 😁

Ok, let's be honest.
1. The song is nice and entertaining.
2. The dancing is great. You can even see cat-like stylistics in their casual movements and it's a really nice touch up
3. To humanize animals and combine it with a scaled up set is an idea as old as art itself and "Cats" executed that very very well.

I love this movie so much omg
The set is really great. It’s so rare to see sets in this size. They usually too small or too big. I like this movie
I actually really like how they used the original london version. Especially since Mungo and Rumple are depicted as being a little bit more maliciously mischievous in the movie. It wouldn't be appropriate to use their upbeat version which is more playfully mischievous.
I showed it to my cat and he leaped at the keyboard, turning off the video. Lol!
Idk I seem to love the film

This is the one song I liked from the movie, it captures the feel of Kensington cats.
I know Rumple's played by an Irish actress, but couldn't they dub her voice to give her a more authentic accent? She keeps slipping in and out of an Irish one and an English one and it's kind of hilarious 😂

Male Calico cats do exist, but they are extremely rare

sorry but the way the vocals get so wobbly from the movement at 0:20 is just so funny. Like you couldve just made them lipsync it...
I think I prefer this arrangement of the song over the other. Also, the only thing wrong with this scene is that we didn't get to see the dog in the house as a human with vaguely canine features barking.

I was so confused when this song came on cause i was like "This sounds NOTHING like the original song!!!"
Wonderful 😍
They took the playfulness and soul out of this song! 😫
La mejor pelicula del mundo 😍😍😁🤩🤩
I hated this at first, but for how horrible the rest of the movie is (and for how misunderstood the musical numbers are), this scene isn't half bad. The sets (and overall environment) are gorgeous to look at and fits almost perfectly with the setting the lyrics describe, the actors look like they're having fun, the choreography is different but matches with the new version of the song quite nicely, and the song itself (though far less superior than the bouncy and energetic fun of the original) isn't too bad. I'll listen and watch the original scene from the musical over this any day, but it seems like they actually knew what they wanted for this scene and decided to experiment a little and for that, I'll appreciate it.
Still, the cat cgi is still horrifying and the editing feels weirdly sloppy in a few areas.
I refuse to believe this is a family movie. I have never been more traumatized after watching a movie clip
this is just really scary to look at and when he did that evil laugh i threw my phone
I miss Rumple's adorable facial expressions from the '98 version.
I keep seeing people call them twins but imo it's more like a couple trying to swing with the new girl in town
I love his accent
I haven’t seen this yet, but since I’m a huge cat person, I just want to pet and hug the cast for how fluffy they look.
