Making this song first person is definitely high on the list of this movie’s biggest sins.
The 1998 is superior to this. This wast of a movie
@@slytherinson8302 I LOVE the 1998 version. Especially the fight scene. I actually felt for Munkustrap.
Another being the hiring of James Corden.
@@sibionici was going to say that too
AGREED. I know the other version has Jennyanydots singing parts of this song, and this version of her is positively PAINFUL to watch, but still. They took one of the most elegant and respected characters in the clan and made him into a fat joke. He IS NOT ashamed of his size...he's PROUD of it. They TOTALLY violated and misunderstood his character. He doesn't gorge himself with food, he goes to the best clubs and eats well and the other cats actually RESPECT HIM for being so fat because as a colony of strays, some are not so lucky. The only song that came close to impressing me in this one is Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat and MAYBE Memory. Not as good as the other version, of course, but not as painful as some of the other songs in this version. It felt like they were trying and it wasn't just sloshed together at the last minute.
If you had gone to this movie expecting to be scared shitless nonstop for an hour and forty minutes, and I mean nonstop, you would have thought it was the greatest, most genius piece of filmmaking ever produced.
I cried when I found out he was casted as my fav character
As in you cried tears of joy?
@@r4h4al Most likely not
Bustopher Jones: You know that I'm sensitive about my size!
Also Bustopher Jones: *Sings a whole song boasting about how fat he is and how he does nothing but eat at various clubs all day.*
thats because in the musical most of the song was other people sing about Bustopher Jones, not him singing about himself.
In the musical he was a chapterness.
I think a little proof reading of the script is in order.
Bustopher Jones and Jennyanydots in cats: respected elders. No fat jokes
Bustopher Jones and Jennyanydots in this monstrosity: haha fat cats
I agree. They totally misinterpreted these characters. And the fact that they made Bustopher Jones HISS and be ASHAMED of his size is just insulting. In fact, the WHOLE SONG takes on a different meaning when HE sings it, compared to the ladies singing it. When the ladies sang it, it was an homage to his grandness. When he sings it, he sounds like a pompous pig.
The musical is definitely preferred. The CGI isn’t bad, although some parts looked weird, but what did make the movie bad was the new plot and change in character personalities.
technically Bustpher had still the elegant personality and Corden does a solid musical performance (particularly/specifically his musical voice) fit in the role, although for the most part his portrayal is rather mixed due to most likely the ridiculous/cringy stuff he makes in here, and the story is still overall faithful to its source material yet at the same time it has a consistent narrative compared to the stage version, no?
Cats is definitely the worst film of All-Time! Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood is way better than this film!
The cgi was fucking nightmare movie
He looks like a mix between Garfield and The Cat in the Hat.
Garf in the Fat Hat, that’s what I said!
I love those 2 characters.
Now I can't unsee it 😂
I just don't understand how the lyrics of the song are about this is a cat from St James admired for his high-class eating spots and he's eating garbage
It's a movie so they could have actually done hard cuts at the different restaurants and dishes..or just made it make sense some other way
That's actually a good point. I never thought of that but you are right.
@Rotten On The Vine: Dark Fiction You'd be right to think that. In the original poem and the musical it's clear that he is admired for being g a cat that dines well.
But the Hollywood treatment is such that the mention of the fact he is 'remarkably fat' is enough to give him the role of gluttonous buffoon instead
I don't think you're quite right, lyrics like 'which is famous for it's winkles and shrimps' that were present in both the book and the musical were probably meant as in that they were thrown out remains behind the restaurant. He is high-class and all that but he's also a glutton
@@RedMadMichael yup a garbage near restaurants where employee dump the leftovers are fine dining for stray cats for sure, but this is not it.
2:50 This is James playing himself in a cat costume, not the character.
I know it's brilliant.
5:09 Behind Bustopher Jones there is a cat that missed putting on the cat's face and has the actor's acraa is on the right and then on the left side there is hardly anything but there is a drop where his face is Move
3:22 Cat balls+penis joke: HI-LARIOUS!!! BRAVO!! A MASTERPIECE OF A MOVIE!!
i suppose that is a sarcasm
@@scoutart1508 god i hope so
Bust-A-Nut Jones
If the Penguin was a cat
That's an insult to Penguin. And cats
😂😂😂
Why are these cats proud to be nodded or bowed to by this disgusting behemoth? He's the Cat-About-Town, not the Dumpster-Diving Cat. Also, why does he say he's sensitive about his size? The lyrics specify that he's proud of his weight. I think James Corden was an okay choice, because he actually has a good voice, they just needed to tell him to tone down the bad improv. He also sounds legitimately embarassed when he says the word cats.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but James cordon was the highlight of something
All the weird pauses, the creative liberties and genuinely subpar singing from the celebrity actors makes this feel like I'm watching a grade school recital. But instead of feeling sorry for those involved after every misstep, I feel legitimate embarrassment that this is the best a production with a movie budget could muster.
I’m Bustopher Jones and if you don’t make me an egg yolk omelet, I’ll be a huge tool about it.
You'd think Bustopher knows about Macavity the moment he presented his trash to him.
I liked the part where James Corden got hit in the nuts and fell in the trash
I can't believe I live in a world where this is an accurate sentence.
Bustopher Jones is basically the biological father of the Cat in the Hat
Are you sure?

5:00 one Mr mistoffrles is floating 2 Tigger is over the trash can and he's supposed to be inside
1:52 hey! Put your clothes back on!😾
2:49 How James Corden treats his workers
I just
i
why
not why is it bad
but why is the first part before he enters the house good
why is the choreo wasted like this
up until that point it's actually good. I like how into the choreo Munkustrap, mistoffolees, and all the chorus are. James even gives it a pretty decent go. It's just Tom Hooper has no fucking clue what he's doing, and honestly I could have told you that back when Les Mis came out. Like, the decision to make this sung by Bustopher is a stupid one, but at least James sings it well.
Like, that 45 second section of song + literally the entirely of Skimbleshanks makes me so sad, because this movie could have been somewhat good, not because Tom Hooper is a good director, but because the choreographer and some of the cast actually *cared*
This guy's more like the Nick-ocado of cats than the Brummell of cats
1:22 this scene scared me so much-
Butopher Jones is ACTUALLY a distinct and kind Sir.
This is just garbage, clearly not his cup of tea!
James Corden needs to stop.
Just stop doing anything. Ever.
NOOO NOT PETER RABBIT TOO PLS
how about casting him for a musical hand drawn animated disney film sounds to you as a likable sidekick after his praised performance in Into the Woods sounds to you?
No, Please! Not Cinderella too.
I still think that they should have done something similar to the musical
James Corden wasn't in the musical, they could've started there.
Idk, my cat is a fatty boy and I had fun singing this to him while he was like 'Wtf you doing'
For precisely the 5 first seconds I feel like I am watching Peter Jackson's "Meet the Feebles."
My favourite cat was rum tum tugger, I loved him and the Calico twins
I'm sure Corden-in-furs is the real reason why Cats sank
i don’t get why they have to sing their own song, it just doesn’t sound right 😭
The greatest scene in the history of cinema
The actor Eric Stonestreet should’ve played Bustopher Jones in this film.
Combination of Bustopher Jones and Dribble 🖤🍌🥩💗
Cats 2019. I liked it. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I prefer the 1998 version, but I did enjoy this movie. It definitely had its problems, but give it a watch before you say 'no thanks'.
it wasn't a bad idea to make Bustopher sing his own song, I really like this choice, but the poor jokes and the total change of his personality are cringeworthy
His personality for the most part is still quite intact
Combination of Warioware and Cats 🖤🍌🥩💗
I would have picked Brian Blessed or Stephen Fry personally.
I’d have picked Eric Stonestreet. He would’ve be marvellous! 🙌
Bustopher Jones:
1998: Respectable, noble, humble, lovable, wholesome and gentlemanly.
☝️ GOLD
2019: Selfish, sloppy, gluttonous, pompous, disrespectful, arrogant, hypocritical, and hateful.
☝️ PAINFUL AGONIZING FAILURE
X: How did you liked James Corden's part?
Me: 3:22
Me: 4:25
Me: 2:51
This is offensive to anyone who doesn't hate themselves.
I really don't see why everyone hates on this movie, aside from the motion capture which was a little weird. Emphasis on 'a little'
the choice to make the cats be humans CGIed into acts was an atrocious one. it made a post-production post that should've taken so much longer and cost so much more than it did, resulting in characters that are genuinely uncomfortable to watch. i normally don't even notice visuals that are 'off', but even i'm made uncomfortable by what's going on on screen, and the abundance of CGI needed means most of the dancing is also off. they also hired big names for the sake of hiring big names instead of hiring stage actors, so the singing is just almost always terrible. just compare rebel wilson's song to the original. the difference is night and day, and it's blatantly because rebel wilson isn't a singer. and she's not the only one.
if you do a musical, and the "costumes" (CGI) are bad, the dancing is bad, and the singing is bad... what are you even left with?
I like his act.
This is straight up disrespectful.
Trop cool la chanson 😊😊avec victoria et mistoffelees 😊😊
You know, a musical wouldn’t be a musical without James Corden!
This is a good cinematic transformation of the theatrical number from the musical. And James Corden did a great job.

I loved this version of the musical
Same here.
Oh my..
God they just took a big dump on bustopher Jones’s character in this movie 🤦🏻♂️
This is actually good is the rest of the movie like this?
No, the rest is trash
This is not good lmao it’s a lot better than some of the numbers but if you want to see a good cats film number I HIGHLY recommend skimbleshanks the railway cat song. It actually keeps tempo and is musically one of the best pieces in the movie!
@@czerwonykwadrat6843 You haven't seen Skimbleshanks?
Yes.
Hahahaaaaaa omg I am embarrassed for him.
I know I am in the minority but I love Gorden as B Jones.

They picked the best person to play Bustupher Jones .
This is not Bustopher jones
They're making looks so cheap him
While they really botched the music and most other things about the song, I do like how they more overtly show that Bustopher is outright kind and encouraging, more so than you can see in the 1998 version. Other than that though, this is way inferior.
2:48 oh come on, you can do better than that, Matre D

The Only Good Movie James Corden Ever Made Was Peter Rabbit 2 And That Movie Wasn’t Even That Great
"Telstar" was excellent, as was Cats.
