- In 1988, the Four Freshmen were interviewed by Joan Lunden on the Lifetime cable show "Mother's Day" and performed "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring," "Day by Day," and a portion of "Poinciana." Their lineup at the time was Bob Flanigan, Autie Goodman, Mike Beisner, and Kirk Marcy. On "Day by Day," the Freshmen were joined by Lunden's producer-husband Michael Krauss on drums and lead vocals.
Noteworthy in this performance of "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" is the corrected lyric "Through the wintry snow, the world they knew was warm." In the group's 1960 recording of the Bobby Troup song, they had sung "the world they knew was one," an error subsequently copied by The Beach Boys and perhaps by other artists.
Many apologies for the poor quality of this recording. This footage is not used for purposes of commercial sale, but for historical documentation and research purposes. No infringement is intended but only fair use. All copyrights are hereby acknowledged.
Wonderful performance of “Their Hearts were full of Spring”. The harmonies were right on point.
Thanks alot for this. I enjoyed it very much.
Living in Vegas, I was acquainted with three (Flanigan, Goodman, and Beisner) of the guys, now all gone.
Mike Beisner was a good friend. His wife (a vocalist) is a longtime dear friend of
mine and I was her pianist for several years.
I don't know if she has (or has seen) this, so I'll forward it to her, too.
I thank you for her, as well.
Wow! Been with the group as a fan since 1951. Have had the pleasure of attending a number of their concerts and enjoyed them all. Am a member of the Four Freshmen Society and would encourage everyone to join. If you like them, then support them.
Fantastic to see this clip, thanks.
Hearing Bob Flanigan sound the same after all those years makes me sad thinking of how Brian Wilson might sound if he did not destroy his voice with cigarettes and cocaine..

3/4 of the freshmen from this video are dead. Bob Flanigan, Autie Goodman, and Mike Beisner are all dead. Kirk Marcy is the only freshman alive from this video. Flanigan died on 5/15/11 at age 84, Goodman died 12/20/18 at age 93, and Beisner died 7/6/08 at age 53.
