Bjorn, the legend, the myth, THE MAN!
The Ninja.
Few things i learned about Norway in the week ive been here:
- Lots of Tesla superchargers!
- Mostly non-teslas using them
- Houses and cities are designed like superchargers aswell, asphalt and white walls
- Every EV driver knows Teslabjörn!
No one cares about it
considering the lies and fear that are spread about the ev industry, it's good to have Bjorn
I love the comments boomers make about EVs 😂
Elon needs to leave the Earth though, what an A hole
@@mitchhedberg4415 Are you listening to Elon, or are you listening to the news? You should listen to the man himself to avoid bias.
I have a Model S 85 from 2013 with 410.000km. This is the most realiable and fun car I have ever driven and I'm driving for more than 40 years now.
I'm planning to get a nice 90D with current drop in price you can have one for 25.000€ which is dead cheap for such a car with lifetime free supercharger !
@@mitchhedberg4415 "Elon needs to leave the Earth though, what an A hole"
Have you actually listened to when Elon speaks? Have you actually read your own comments? Because the only "A hole" comment in this discussion is coming from you.
I’ve just got mine in France after TM3P 2019, then 2022. I can confirm improvments at each of them but this 2024 is a higher one. Interesting point. I paid less and less my Performance cars since 2019 for more and more equipments, quieter cabins and higher global quality. And best confort with these very good seats and adaptative suspensions.
I also removed the caps of wheels. At the delivery center at Lyon, they keep all these caps in the parcel (in the trunk) and are mounted only according to customer request. Keep in mind removing them can scratch the wheel paint.
To sum up: what a car!
Je vois que je ne suis pas le seul français ici 😁🇫🇷
Interesting, 405KW max discharge. That means the battery can deliver 530HP. Instead of the claimed 460HP. AT 6:29 it delivers 421KW even if you add up front and rear inverter.
Yeah well we can't expect 100% efficiency
makes a lot more sense because even my Model 3 LR 2021 MiC has 360kW max discharge
Tesla claimed power outputs always seem to be very conservative.
@@TheAegisClaw jupp👍
406 kw isn’t that ~545hp … and the American sourced ones with the Panasonic battery are even stronger
One thing to note which is audible, when you punch the accelerator pedal it launches straight away. The BYD Seal has a delay of at least .5 of a second. The draggy doesn’t take this into account.
If the car takes 0.5 of a second from hitting the pedal to when it launches, then that is part of the time. Unless you can somehow anticipate that 0.5 second, how can you accurately factor it out?
@@raymonddsouza8948 Correct, so it’s more like 4.3secs 0-100.
Respect for mentioning handling rather than laser-focusing on straight line performance
Ok, so it is available in Norway now. Cool
I mean already!
Impressive car every time I watch a review. Now the gold standard Tesla Bjorn testing show how excellent this car is right up there with a Porsche Taycan Turbo. In Canada 🇨🇦, this Is around $70k CDN. I see 2023 Taycan Turbo S at dealers for around $200k Canadian. 😳 Wow.
The taycan from 2020 is 4 years old. The 2024 taycan is the one who beat the PLAID by 18 seconds at nurburgring. :)
@@Evans_Man Ah....that's right. Thanks, I forgot.
@@Evans_Man The old Taycan is still a great car, just because the new one is even more insane doesn't make the old one less cool.
@@Evans_Man yes, new one is a 2 seater 4 door caged and stripped car. It is an impressive work, but that the 3P now is up there with old taycan turbo is also impressive
About time you got your mits on this Bjorn.
The difference in aceleratiom is more noticeable above 100km/h
Great video with a great set of tests 👍
FINALLY a video of gray with black interior! It's my build, if it ever comes! Looks fantastic.
Byd Seal perfomance go home 😂
Like a boss! Thanks for another great video you are the best Bjorn!!! 😍 ❤
„..they will give me a yat - yet another tax“ 5:55 😅
Greetings from Australia! Another great video, Bjørn! I wanted to ask about the handling test: Will you make a new test for handling or is it just a temporary thing for the moment?
fun to watch bjorn check out new teslas! since I followed him from the start
Great video..... As always 👍
Do you know when you'll get the Xpeng G6 for a complete test, long term and banana box etc.?
Well done sir!
So ready for Juniper.
I hope you can test the 200 km/h consumption in Germany like you did it with the 2018 Model 3 Performance !!!
Small thing, but I appreciate that the refresh rate on the speedometer is very good.
This car is superb, silent, handles good, comfy enough. Good seats for active driving, superb stereo.
HW4 cameras give it very good details on cameras. Interior is soft to the touch.
The wheels also feel great.
Yeah we have Bjorn for that
the real competition for the model 3, including its performance variant, is in china. while the us decided to bolt the door rather than face the music, we’ll see how europe will deal with it. and no, the byd seal is not the real competition.
Tariffs 🙄
The only way incompetent politicians knows of. Trying to tax problems out of existence.
Good review, thanks!
Great review as always
Great video as always! Was that a Fremont VIN code or a Shanghai VIN code you had here? It looks like it's able to draw more power from the battery than what was expected for the EU version.
Shanghai
Super cool
This car is incredible for the price and beyond, teslas user interface and constant over the air updates never make the car feel dated. I test drove this car and was blown away at the performance and comfort.
I used to have a 21 m3p. It was rather uncomfortable, bot suspension and noise. I was blown away by the rwd highland. It was in a complete different league. However watching other highland tests comparing lr / rwd it seems to take a huge toll in the comfort department, both susp noise and seats unfortunately. 3p highland was not available when i test drove so have not tested that one.
But interior and built quality are suck.
@@sfjava6239 nope
@@sfjava6239its better than in some germans. No plastic anywhere in the inside
Price is too high in uk
You should test this car with the Aero covers installed. Makes a big difference here. The new drive unit should be more efficient.
Endelig!😃
Crazy package for the price
we need test on model 3 rwd highland!
I picked up mine yesterday it's phenomenal. Cabin is very quiet
Super long time viewer and fan. I wonder when you are going to take the step to 4K videos?
Keep it up Bjørn!
Would the standard 18inch wheels fit?
Looking forward to the SEXY button review. Love the car monitoring stuff you always do.
Is the sound insulation different between short range , lr and performance?
The styling is improved, but in comparison with the 2022 model, it has now the 79kWh battery instead of the Panasonic 82kWh battery. So, in the beginning at a high SOC, because of the more powerful new motor, the new M3P is faster, but it has less range and at lower SOC the new battery outputs less. The American M3P Highland does get the 82kWh battery, which makes it perform much better on Dragy especially on lower SOC. I would advise to skip the upgrade if you have a 2022 M3P until the 82kWh battery ever comes to EU.
Yeah, the Fremont version might come to Europe soon because of the tariffs...
Sport seats should have adjustable side bolsters. It's not every day you run your car on a track.
Will there be a 90-10% acceleration test?
@Bjorn Nyland, I'd appreciate more views on the ride vs the long range, is it more comfortable or the same? I understand you can change the ride comfort via the touchscreen.
Do you test the car with Family on a Short Holiday Trip? Good Video!
Hi, Why KIA EV9 is missing in XLs. Noise and acceleration ? You did it as well isn't it? :-)
I wish I had those seats in my '22 M3P, they address the only 2 significant gripes I have with the car - weak lateral support in corners, and the need for ventilated seats. But I'll probably just ride it out for another year or so and get a Model S LR or Plaid.
Hi! What do you is the better choice, the Model S P100D Ludicrous, or this?
bakre motor 300kw og fremre motor 120kw fra batteriet.
Med motorer på 80% effektivitet så produserer motorene 240kw og 96kw. Så 321hk og 129hk. Sammenlagt 450 hestekrefter?
Finally!!!
Nice video Bjorn, you still need to do more efficiency and range videos for the highland LR
Will you test the hyundai inoniq 5N? That could be a rival.
Yes
I noticed something funny with kick-down. I have tested it on X plaid and Y dual motor (not using SEXY buttons).
Kick-down all the way is less of a kick than going to something like 75%. I am using an aggressive movement of the pedal. I mostly tested it from a rolling start at 40 kn/h, or similar.
I think this is a Tesla bug.
After 80/90 km/h the g force drops at around 0,5g, which is similar to the LR chart. In a rolling start from this speed, like a 90 to 120 km/h acceleration, is the difference still noticeable compared to the LR or is it similar? For a quick comparison, i've managed a 1,9 s with LR Highland 90-120 km/h, in good environment conditions.
I really hope it is noticeably quicker than LR compared to the previous gen where they were basically the same car after 80kph or so....
Much faster as the Plaid motor doesn't drop off at higher speeds
@@GJCcontent True, but remember that even a RWD is faster than 80% of the cars you'll encounter on the road😅
@@larryc1616 It hasn't a Plaid motor, but the new 4D1 motor (no carbon sleeves rotors).
Cannot wait till you try the Ioniq 5N
Why? It’s slower, cost more, uglier. Is it the fake fossil motor sound?
Seems that Tesla is also ABC in regards to acceleration.
Always Be Cheating.
Nevertheless, seems really cool the top ten of most fastest cars from 0-100.
Only two non Tesla, and it's Porsche.
I would'nt mind to be that "poor man" that owns this Tesla Performance Highland.
😊
By the way, again another great video Bjørn. Keep going with these good tests, prioritizing again ABC, Always Be Caring your children.
Now need to see if I5N can match the acceleration
That one is 20000€ more 😉
@@henne2kNot the point, i5N is a track monster as well.
The 5n is qucker to 402m, quicker to 0-200, 100-200 etc compared to the none US M3P. The US spec with the Panasonic battery is much quicker than the LG dito. The 5n is a great package apart from the range (if longer range is needed).
Track-monster with 2300 kg😂
@@psav7
you’ve not seen it go around Nurburgring?
Thanks Bjorn, a few questions;
- Is this not supposed to be a LFP battery (China made) that can be charged to 100% all the time?
I still get the 80% daily recommendation?
- Were we not expecting 5G network support?
- Park Assist is gone - perhaps that has been the case for vision only for a while?
Appreciate your thoughts
Hi,
High end Tesla vehicles doesn't have LFP batteries, only the Standard Range versions have it usually. So the M3 SR+, or RWD, and the MY SR+ or RWD (the cheapest of both).
In the case of the Model 3 Performance, I cannot find any information online about its chemistry, but the User Manual in Europe indicates to let it always charged at 100%, which means it may be an LFP in Europe. Rumors said that it would be an "NMCA" Battery from LG, which is a mix. Nobody seems to know for now.
It should be indicated in your car, in the "'Software" tab in the menu, scrolling down you can see the name, processor and battery chemistry of the battery. if you can't, it might be intentionnal from Tesla.
Careful, "M3P" is as well the name of a LFP battery from CATL. Yes, it's stupid they took the same acronym than for the Model 3 Performance...
5G Support was speculation, but it may be fit with a 5G antenna and would arrive in an OTA update.
Park assist isn't available in any Tesla Vision vehicle, at least in Europe, with or without the FSD package. Can't tell for Teslas in the US with FSD. I think it exists but it's pretty limited and buggy as of now.
At first I thought that this BMW i4 M50 was crazy efficient. But then I saw that it's on smaller and much narrower wheels. Hence less power consumption. And less noise too.
I'm hesitant to test-drive any highland Model 3. Because I want to keep enjoying my 2019 LR AWD 😅. Keep telling myself....no stalks, no test-drive.
I'll probably be in love when I sit in one, defending Elon's stupid decision to remove the stalks...like the fanboy I am 😂.
That performance looks so sexy. Love those seats. I wonder if and how one could put some 18s with winter tires under there. I know the old Performance wasn't compatible and spacers and such were needed.
Aftermarket 18" wheels are available for the original Model 3 Performance. I expect they also are for the new Highland Performance. Martian wheels is one brand, IIRC.
I have had my new M3P for a few weeks. I have only tried to use the turn signal as if it had stalks twice. I got used to the turn signal buttons the same day I picked it up. The gear change on screen is fine. You do it and drive off, no need for the stalks now that I have experienced it for 3 weeks.
@@georgepelton5645 No, 18" on the original Performance does not work because the brake calipers are too big. Minimum is 19".
No stalks = no buy for me, my current TM3 is already annoying with it's lack of controls. That, and I'm getting a bit bored of new bugs via OTA updates making the car more annoying to use so the whole "updates keep it fresh" thing doesn't really work for me - been 3 updates of the radio not cycling through channels via the steering wheel control and they removed the quick access bit in the same update that broke it so it's full screen radio controls if I want to swap between my main stations. Shame, cause I like my current car as just a car and would happily replace it on that basis but the improvements are not enough to overlook a doubling down on the worst bits of the car.
@@st.hottusdiepfeife483 After market 18s did fit it, the Tesla 18s didn't clear the brakes though.
What the about the 3.1s to 100 km/h? Haven’t seen anybody reaching this. I assume tricks and roll-outs applied again.
Yes, it is normal for the performance version. Tesla also informs the 0-100 time with 1 ft. On the home page.
But this time the car is faster 3,03 💪
Good review, what a strange time we live in where a 1900kg car is now “light”.
Why? In 1975 pre suv&pickup days, no airbags then, crumple zones, abs required, traction control required, 10+speakers stereos, sound deadening, power everything options etc. Car's still weighed just over 4,050#
A 1993 Mitsubishi vr4 weighed 3,750-4,100# an average muscle car in the late 60s was 3,600-4,200# if it had a big block in it. 👍🏻😀
Is this 460hv version model 3 performance ?
09:30 compared the Tesla Y to my current Dacia Lodgy: 71 db at 130 vs 86 db. That's a difference.
20kg less than the LR, I guess that's the wheels/tyres and if so, that's a good thing IMHO.
One comment on the acceleration: This chinese version is barely quicker than the old model, and this difference is mainly 0-50kmh. The 50-100kmh is 0.04s quicker which is a difference you cannot really feel. So from a roll north of 50kmg you wont be gapping the old version at all, This is disappointing since the top end on the fremont version has been significantly improved.
Can't wait for Tesla to remove digit and bring it out in Quick Silver, then I'm ordering one!
Car is really good, but powerwhise there is not improvement basically, especially with this LG battery.
I have the suspect that we are going to see a "not flagship" Charging performance
Here’s hoping they stop holding their value so well here in Australia, and I can afford one of these in about 3-4 years as they come off leases :)
Am I reading the spreadsheet right that the performance actually has the same range as the LR at 90km/hr? That's surprising as it has an extra 100km of rated range. I know the rating ststems can be a bit weird but I still expected the LR to go a decent amount further than the performance.
EDIT: I just saw it's wet vs dry conditions. Watching another test it seems like the LR does indeed have a decent range advantage.
Wet vs dry. thought the same first
European cars got a other battery. They got not the best performance.
@@martink.9442 what? They are both european though
@@egil-andrenessmortensen3037 Yes but European Performance got a other battery than American performance.
Also large diff in temp. 3 degrees for the LR vs 20 degrees for the Performance. The fact that the LR still managed to get within spitting distance of the Performance with dry much hotter weather is pretty amazing. This is a "best case" for the Performance vs a "worst case" for the LR
❤❤❤
Is it still beeping at you for no reason...??
So this has around 30hp less maximum battery output discharge when compared to the old one.
Probably just variation in conditions, SOC, etc. it's the same pack.
Given that it's quite a bit faster than the old one, that doesn't make a lot of sense
@@stinger15au I know, but these max discharge numbers are both out of Bjorns testing equipment/procedures. Would love him to also check the american one.
@@theredbaron7302 The us version seems to have about 40kw more in max discharge from the battery ( 447 kw ) in the videos on youtube.
Powerband is better and think the new performance's powerband is better
You have to get ultra red with this one. Then it looks like a performance
Best bang for the buck
Bjørn, did you precondition the battery fir supercharging prior to the 0-100 test? The old M3P's had a fair bit more discharge power with a 40+ degree battery.

@@DG-uv3zw i am satisfied with my 3 p 2021 now. want newer thats it. Is the S Plaid more quiet and luxurious? I think i go for it then
@@LonglingEriksen More luxurious - yes. quieter - no, because of massive tires.(almost impossible to have a quiet car with those size tires unless you add insane amount of insulation which then adds weight) Also, Plaid is really for someone that is a speed daemon. you can look at Bjorns test of Plaid, its just not comparable to any car because of that power and speed.
@@DG-uv3zw new 3p is more quet. The new Plaid is also delivered with 19" wheels as an option. I think my old 3 p is noisy sometimes. At least when its windy
I have the Highland M3 LR. Been driving it for over 6 months now as my region was one of the firsts to receive the highland deliveries. The car is absolutely great but two things need to improve:
1. The auto wipers (,maybe software level can perfect it). 2. The doors and panels leveling and alignment. Look at your car in the video for example. It looks like the rear left door goes in abit too much, it looks deeper than the rear back panel. It is barely noticeable but still. In my case it was the other way around having a rear left door that was protruding abit, it wasnt too noticeable either but annoyed me and i had concerns that it will be more susceptible to get damaged. Tesla fixed it ,it is not perfect but alot better and i am happy with it now. Also my driver's door lower part protrudes abit more , the lower folding edge is not flush with the rest of that folding section of rear door. They slightly improved it but said they cannot optimize it beyond what they did. Not too happy about that fix because it is still noticeable maybe abit less than before though but still. They call it within tolerance specs. These are things that i understand have went through improvement in comparison to few years back but still need improvement to be perfected. Thinking about it now, where is that tolerance spec written? I have never seen it anywhere. They should publish it. Aside that, the car is a great fun to drive and very enjoyable. Sound deadening is very good and audio system is great, seats are very comfortable as well. Together- it is fun to drive while listening to internet radio. Waiting for the acceleration boost package to be released which will just add to the enjoyment.
such a BEAUTY
I miss the hongqi
I would puke within one minute driving like that, Lol. Nice review!
Interesting dimensione rear tire 30/20 why 'not 35/20 ? rear tire are smaller than anterior.. ?
Wider tire
The second number "30" is PERCENTAGE of the tire width (275). So 35% of 235 is almost equal to 30% of 275, which makes the sidewall height same front to back
@@ATICrossX Ok thanks, I wasn't know
I wonder if this is the ludicurous that overtook me in Denmark going north Yesterday, probably not.
Nope
Interesting. It's exactly 0.2s faster than my stock 2022 M3P with the Panasonic battery which proves the benefit of the broader power band and higher low-speed torque, despite the lower max discharge power. Almost as if Tesla knew exactly what they were doing within the limits of the LG pack...
With half the price who buys bba performance car anymore?
I've never felt like I'm about to slide off the road in my Model Y performance. Not even when pushing it hard on twisty roads.
it is a great car. but even with aero caps on it is substantially less efficient than the model 3 LR. For me that matters more since I do a lot more long distance at 120-130kmh.
but it is a super car no doubt
Smaller tires on the 3P will make it almost as efficient as a 3LR.
Good video. You have enough space to run it to 1/4 mile. No one seems to know what the China made one will run in the 1/4 mile.
