    Thanks for the video. you briefly touch on an area I am interested in which is the user interface. I Have been unable to find any videos which give any info on this. I would like an in depth look at how to access locally stored music, which I have a lot of. I even went so far as to ask Wiim if they have any videos of the user interface, specifically for streaming locally stored music. I received no reply. I am not interested in the nuts & bolts of how to connect, but really what the user interface looks like.
    One comment, please don't take it as snarky, but in your text overlay "experience" does not have an "a" in it.

    Been using the mini for a while. If there is a change, that I would like it would be coaxial digital output rather than optical. I have just hooked it up to an SMSL SU-1 DAC. Too soon to say much.

    These WiiM devices are great little network streamers. Your phone controls the streamer over your network. Your phone is basically just the control panel for the WiiM. Your phone is not streaming anything when using these products. The advantage of the wired connection is the WiiM device does not have to make a wireless connection to your network. As we all know, sometimes we have to power down our wireless routers to get them back communicating with our devices. The wired connection eliminates that hassle. The wired connection means no wireless connection to manage on the WiiM side, only your phone connects to your network wirelessly. So if your phone is on your network, you should be good to go. When running the WiiM wirelessly you have to make sure the WiiM is on the network also. Trust me this can be a hassle. It doesn’t always stay connected between uses. This can suck when all you want to do is listen to some music but you have to figure out why your phone can’t talk to your WiiM. When your WiiM losses its connection to your network it has to be rebooted. Sometimes that’s all it takes, sometimes you have to reboot your router too. And sometimes you have to reboot little sucker and go through the process of having your phone find it again. All of this can be a pain. Wired is definitely better if you can do it. It’s well worth the up grade! I have a Mini, a Pro, and a BlueSound Node 2. The Pro is the best. (Because the App is better (also I am using an external DAC so not talking about the DACs))

      If you cannot run an ethernet cable use a wireless mesh network with an ethernet output and cable into the Dac these are a lot more stable than general wifi, mesh networks were invented by the US military for battle field condition and are used in oil and gas and chemical works as the reroute information around the network the more mesh devices you have in the network it's a very clever system, this is how sanos does it, a dedicated mesh network just for music 👍

    Can the mini be used to stream from UA-cam music from a Samsung phone when connect to a AVR receiver

  • @GeordiePrepper
    @GeordiePrepper 6 місяців тому

    Hi, I'm trying to decide how to better stream my audio from my Windows 10 PC to my Hi-Fi. (I do have a Mac, but it's an older one and trying to stream from Apple Music to Airplay doesn't work) But I'm having a hard time trying to decide on the best way to do it. How I currently listen to music:
    1 - Via iTunes from Windows 10 streaming to Airport Express, connected to DX3 Pro+ DAC into Amplifier.
    * Problem - Can't load FLAC into iTunes and I don't want to re-rip all my hundreds of CD's into Apple Lossless.
    2 - Via VLC accessing FLAC folder over Network which I stream from my Android phone my CD Ripped iTunes AAC Music and increasingly my FLAC files. I use VLC, I then connect to DX3 Pro+ to listen to AAC and FLAC files from PC.
    * Problem - Streaming over Bluetooth is lossy
    * Problem - VLC can't do gapless playback, so I get horrible gaps in playback.
    * Problem - Bluetooth is only going upto 96khz
    I mean 96khz with LDAC is very nice sounding, I've been very pleased so far, but I want to get the full quality of the FLAC I'm purchasing.
    What is the solution? I'm hoping that someone just say the Wiim Pro can do it all.
    If I get a Wiim (I don't need the pro plus as I have an External DAC) Can it: A) Show up in iTunes as a device to stream music over? And B) Can it access my FLAC files from my shared folder over the network and show them in a navigable format I can browse through? (Not too bothered about seeing Artwork though) and then I can play them gapless and in their full quality? I own upto 192khz FLAC Files, but HDTracks also has some classical at 384khz, so I'd have to be able to play as high as that minimum. I also use an iPad (4th Gen) and Android Phone, so I would like to use them as a 'remote' to select and play music.
    Thanks for all the help, this situation has my head battered in!
    People keep talking about so much software and raspberry pi's and all sorts of stuff, I just want a simple solution that slots into my existing Hi-Fi environment and plays my music to the best quality it has and see it corresponding in my DAC display. Cheers.

    Man this is one of the videos I have been needing to see for several years. Great information. I have always wondered if my home was connected via ethernet(And it is) to all ethernet compatible devices when I did try to AIRPLAY 2 from a Mac to say a Yamaha receiver directly via the cable was it in fact leaving the Mac from Apple Music at whatever resolution (mostly 16/44 I suppose) but IF there was ever a higher resolution song in my library from Apple Music was it in fact leaving via ethernet cable at whatever resolution it supposedly was being delivered??
    Not sure what MIDI settings should be as I do not want "upsampling or down sampling" at all...Just what is native resolution to particular song from the Mac to the respective receiver.
    You would simply NOT believe how many times I have asked that question & how many different answers I have gotten. The best one was years ago when a guy told me only an Engineer who had commanding knowledge of how Mac circuitry & software functioned could answer the question. What say you? new sub by the way and PLEASE put out more content dude. You are truly good at this.

    • @TheHiFiJedi-reviews
      @TheHiFiJedi-reviews  11 місяців тому

      I've also heard and read many different opinions on this matter, but it was my understanding that without touching settings it would come in as 16/44. The only reliable way you can check this is perhaps using a DAC that's got a built-in readout to display what the stream actually is.

    I have owned the Pro for over a month. There is one problem NO REVIEWER mentions and its serious. If you play music from your NAS (I use Synology) the music WILL NOT BE played in track order. This is a known issue that was supposed to be corrected in April 2023. I write this in June so it has not been corrected. In my opinion this makes the Pro worthless for anyone who wants to play their own tunes. How can the user experience be that great when this glaring problem has not been corrected? I will be purchasing a Bluesound streamer in the near future.

I never needed the capability to play DIFFERENT songs in different areas SO airplay 1 was good for me, Plus I never had the issue of them not all being in complete synch for some reason. I find that with all four of my systems, whether I use airplay or dock my iDevice in an Apple lightning doc to avoid battery issues. I’m more than happy with the sound I get with good quality recordings / files from UA-cam Music Premium (256K) without a better dac than what’s in my iPhone or iPad. I’m sure most audiophiles would cringe at this response. I am much more of a music lover than an audiophile.
      Several friend s have expensive external dacs . Honestly, the change in sound quality vs. mine (with my ears) is minimal at best, not to mention a considerable expense.
      Lastly, with my custom installs, I literally have very little room for an external dac or bigger Wiim…live and learn.
      I’ll save my time and money, abort the external dac / a Wiim upgrade idea and just keep enjoying my music as configured. If anything, I’ll consider getting a Wiim Mini’ for each of my systems for airplay convenience or occasional whole house tunes when desired.
      Thanks for your input. Much appreciated!
