I purchased Wiim Pro Plus from Amazon here in Canada the sound not bad play with EQ settings some noticable difference. Decide purchased upgraded power adapter I decided on iFi Audio Power X . Right away noticed much better sound now I set my EQ to Flat .
I have a massage studio that uses a Schitt Modi 2 Uber, Fosi V3 with 48v, Heco wall mounted speakers and a 12” JBL powered subwoofer. All that is running from a PC as a streamer and that allowed me calibrate the system using sonar works software. It’s quite rare that I get someone in that knows a good audio system but when I do, it blows them away. Massage Therapy and great audio is a great combo.
I just had my WiiM pro delivered on the 7th. I did not like the sound of the analog output with my Yamaha RV-681. So I ordered one of the S.M.S.L SU-1 MQA MQA-CD Audio Decoder. I hooked the 2 together with a digital coax cable. The results were very good, way better then using the SPDIF optical connection, which does not seem to work properly. I might have been doing something wrong, but the coax connection sounded so good, i didn't spend much time trying to figure out the optical connection. My speakers a KLH Kendall's. I listen to a lot of music. 6 or more hours a day. The Streamer and the dac are just what i needed to make me happy with the sound of my system. If you are shopping floor standing speakers, I have to recommend the Kendall's over the RP-6000FII's that I had been using for the last 10 months. they sell for the same price per pair, and there is no comparison in my opinion.
Hi from Chennai, India. Been running a WiiM Mini for the last year. IMHO I don't need anything higher. I listen to Spotify exclusively. So happy with the device and the constant updates. Brilliant
Finally!! This is how I wanted to listen to my music! Amazon HD Music>> WiiM Pro Plus>> Emotiva TA-100>> Emotiva A-300 >> Polk Reserve R200>> Polk 300w 12" sub. ALL of this on recommendations in your videos... So, thank you. ~Pete in Texas 🇨🇱
Nice upgrade for a lot of people who don't have/wanna use an external dac and still get great audio quality. Just received my wiim pro today and i am absolutely loving it (got scared when i first saw the video, but i am glad the improvements on the plus model are few and don't affect me, as i use a external dac). By the way, i also bought the wiim remote and i think it's an underrated accessory for all wiim products - you get alexa built in, presets and it uses bluetooth instead of the usual infrared. Highly recommend the wiim pro! and for people who don't wanna always reach for a smartphone and want to have quick access to music for convenience, the remote is great! For future products from wiim, a sub output and hdmi arc would be nice, even if it costs a little more. Thanks for the content, Randy!
I'm still rocking using Airplay streaming via a bunch of Airport Expresses, which I've acquired for as little as $20 apiece. That being said, if I were to go with current gear, the Wiim lineup looks like a winner.
Love my WiiM mini. Since I have an external DAC, I’m set. However, I have people all the time asking about a way to stream music. This one will definitely get a higher recommendation with the addition of the remote is a no brainer.
Nice first look review. This is just what WiiM needed to come out with. Also, it would be cool to get an interview with the DAC designer on the channel.
I got to admit I pulled the trigger on Wiim Pro Plus purely on "The Man" recommendation. 1. I love the technology behind this; set you streaming to higher bit rate possible and enjoy! 2. Remote working on both digital and analog outputs is really great and useful 3. I was really curious about these new DAC's that are being advertised - so I figured that for a little charge I get to find out ...well ...I do own about 23 yo Musical Fidelity X-24k DAC and...honestly unless I am developing some hearing impairment - it runs circles around AKM + whatever they got in analog output...first impression is it sounds puny in comparison , less attack, less fidelity in bass, less instrument reverb-the sund is like a tape deck in comparison...imo...I am not disappointed I still like the unit and i appreciate the opportunity to compare at such a low price point. Now that I have tried this i am unsure about my planned acquisition of Musician Pegasus DAC....
I have a Wiim mini going into a D50s that then goes into an old Rotel integrated from the 1980s. I really like the set up and the ease of streaming the Wiim gives me.
I have just started using the Wiim pro, using it's internal DAC and it's EQ. Using the EQ I have turned the higher frequencies up to my taste and the lower frequencies I have left fairly flat. Using my subwoofer I have raised the cross over point and verry slightly turned it up. Combining those tweaks with the fact that I can now Chromecast @ 24 192 instead of blue tooth and my sound improved 30% Instantly. Well dune Wiim , well dune you for always championing them.
I have a WIIM Pro in both my Den/Office system and my Home Theater system,in my den it's connected to a Topping DAC,and the sound is great. In my HT it's going through my Anthem AVM70 so it's using the DAC of the Anthem. Both setups sound better than I thought they would. Definitely a no Brainerd purchase Highly recommended. Won't be getting the plus, unless my wife wants one for our living room setup.
Grabbed one of these for $175 for prime day. Really wanted an all in one as currently I am using my Modi+ with other devices and having this stand alone with my stereo could be really useful. Quality wise this seems like the DAC at worst is just as good as the Modi+ which is all I need.
Thanks for your time and efforts to share this with us all. Seems to me that streaming is the way to go these days, especially for tunes no longer available on physical media. Much appreciated. Take care, Sir.
Nice, this looks like it’ll work great for so many people at half the cost of the next best option. I’d assume their next step is to add a speaker amp and call it the pro plus powernode and continue crushing the competition, love it, thx Randy!!!
Just upgraded from the pro version. Man that AKM DAC brings way more detail than the Burr Brown, which was OK, but this sounds lot better than running the old Pro through the Topping E30
Funny, my own observation comparing my 21 yo Musical Fidelity X-24K (with burr-brown 1716) is exactly the opposite. The bass attack , dynamics , detail is way ahead of WiiM pro plus AKM plus whatever analog stage they included...string reverb..omg not even comparison. I do admit thou recapping the X-24K recently with the best capacitors I could lay my hands on.
Thanks for this video. After buying wiim pro plus hooking it in to my Sony 1070, i rediscover my Sony STR DN1070 has its own spotify and other native apps. After playing with input of my Sony. The wiim pro plus is a bit warmth. The Sony has more width, height and dynamic when im A/B them using input of my Sony. I like the Sony1070 native apps sounds better than wiim pro plus. I only use spotify and Amazon music. It even beat my Cambridge cvn v2 with cxa81. This is my 3rd Sony 1070, i gave the 1st 2 to my son and my friend. Now i have to experiment with my Sony 1080 that in my closet. Ill experiment adding DAC inbetween ill see if it will sound better using wiim pro plus.
I now own two WiiM Pros but will return one for the new Plus version on case I have a setup that doesn’t have a DAC of its own. I love mine and easily recommend it. I also have a BluSound Node 2i to compare it to. all being used as Room endpoints. The WiiM also easily support UNPN/DLNA very well from my ASSETT servers on both Synology and QNAP NAS devices. Thank you for the very timely update on the WiiM product line.
Man I just bought a Wiim Mini this weekend (love Amazon overnight delivery!), hooked up PCM direct to my 20 yr old+ pioneer elite receiver. Sounds pretty good to me. Now I’ve got fomo on this Pro Plus with better dac…
Cool, I got the su-1 WiiM pro V3 amp. I found the bass overwhelming thru pioneer S-t500 towers. The base tightened up when comparing DAC to the internal DAC of my Marantz SR9200 which is a lot wider and airy. The V3 will work in a garage future garage setup.
I took my blue sound node 2i and upgraded the power supply. I ordered a power bi pass adapter from Poland and bought an external $400 power supply. Its a Completely different sounding animal now. I would be curious how something like this would compare
It's easy to upgrade the sound of the Wiim Pro and Pro+ streamers with products from Allo such as the Shanti and the Nirvana. I'm using my Wiim Pro with the Shanti and have been very happy with the improvements.
The WIIM Pro Plus is probably awesome. // I'm waiting for a WIIM to provide album cover art.... even for music sources that does not include it natively... such as vTuner. I'm sure that it's coming.
Soon the Pro will sport a Parametric Equalizer and support Logitech Squeezebox and Airplay Cast (whatever that is, I don't live in the iNiverse). So the Pro+ will as well.
I still find BluOS to be superior. I've got both the Wiim mini and a Bluesound Node 2i and I find getting in and playing music is easier and faster with the BluOS. I think this is mainly because BluOS supports SMB and has its own index for searching. I have to go through DLNA when using my Wiim to play music off my NAS and it's a lot more clicks to get to anything. And the search feature doesn't cover DLNA. I really wish Bluesound made a "mini" style product. I'm going to use external DACs so I don't need to spend money on connectivity beyond what the Wiim mini offers. If Bluesound made a "mini" style product for ~$150, I'd recommend it over the Wiim mini for its better software.
You make a good point, that is, the current Wiim Home App is not sophisticated for cataloging/indexing/playing music off your home server or hard disk. BluOS is better for that, SonosOS is too. But better still are Roon, and perhaps Plex, BubbleUpnp & others. Except for Sonos, the others are not tied directly to specific hardware, they work great with WiiM. My guess is going more people will choose to unhook their software preferences from their hardware choices. WiiM is great for that.
@@ggroch Huh. I'm using Plex for my DLNA server, but I'm not seeing an option to search. Regarding the amount of clicking needed to start music, I suppose that's somewhat on Plex and the DLNA menus they present.
I am with you on this one. Don't think Bluesound will release a streaming only option as it will cannibalize their sales. WIIM software needs some polishing and it can be a nice usable product.
Why not add a phono input, internet radio tuner & a subwoofer output? Just ruin what was good about it & be done. I think I can now get 5 or 6 volume controls and 5 or 6 EQ controls into a signal chain before it even makes it to an analog input. $299 would be an easy buy if Wiim made an upgraded STREAMER ONLY with good parts & a nice chassis. Reggae, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
'Bit Perfect' is an advertizing thing because audiophiles want perfection and most other Android based streamers resample to 48KHz (a video standard). Most people would not be able to tell the difference between resampled and bit perfect. I'm not sure if Wiim allows control via a tablet yet (rather than a smart phone) but that was my reason for choosing an Echo Link over Wiim.
Massively late to this party, but I'm on the cusp of getting one of the Wiims. The manual on the Pro says the following: "For bit-perfect audio output, opt for the digital audio output and activate the fixed volume output, disable EQ and mono audio in the WiiM Home App's device settings" Whether the difference is audible or not, they seem to think it matters enough to put a paragraph about it in the docco. Your mileage may vary!
I'd just like to point out that using the digital pre EQ on the existing WiiM products introduces AUDIBLE digital distortion when boosting frequencies past a certain point. You can just about get away with a small tweak, but if used in conjunction with a better DAC you will notice. Audio science review has posted measurements confirming what my ears already told me.
Is the Wiim Pro Plus still available? I no longer see it on Amazon. Your link goes to the WiiM Pro AirPlay 2 Receiver listed at $149. What's up with that?
As a Wiim Pro owner, I find it surprising that you would use the Wiim Pro's DAC for any type of testing. You immediately hear the deficiencies in the treble: cymbals and high hats sound like the static that comes from an FM stereo on a weak station. For those of us who have achieved truly holographic imaging (through countless hours of placement, tuning, and possibly DSP and room treatment), we also immediately notice the muddiness in the imaging, where instrument and vocal locations are far less defined than they should be. By comparison, the Burr-Brown setup in my Yamaha Aventage receiver doesn't have any of these glaring defects, even though it's not a standout DAC implementation either. So, the correct use of the Wiim Pro is to connect via digital output to a better DAC. If the new Plus model's DAC eliminates the defects of the Pro's DAC, that would certainly be a game changer, however I remain skeptical.
I've been using the wiim mini for quite a while now. The dac in the mini is the same as the dac in the pro from what I understand. Being honest it's pretty awful at best.. I use digital out into my desktop dac and use the wiim as a digital streamer only. In my experience the platform is not as great as others make out. My experience is of random stops. It's playing, then it just stops, I have to open the wiil app and press play (although I never passed it) this is a nuisance and a pain in the ass. Over all thou, for the wiim mini's price it's a good product. For me, the pro plus version brings nothing to the table but for alot of others it would make a good streamer to connect to an amp.
@@chrissmith7069 Yep, spot on. For the record, I have absolutely no issues with my Wiim Pro. It's connected via Gigabit Ethernet, and my entire system is powered from a massive data center quality UPS system, so it never disconnects, and it also never experiences unstable power. But as I said, I would never use the DAC that's built into it. Using the toslink out, the sound quality for my use case is much better than using an HDMI based streamer like a Fire Stick, Chromecast, etc...
My impression was that Randy wasn’t necessarily using the Wiim Pro’s DAC for his day-to-day listening but more so just to ensure that he had an apples-to-apples comparison when comparing-say-two different amplifiers or two different speakers or the like.
@@handcoding possibly, I'm not sure if that would be an apple to apples comparison as there would be different front ends being used. The Wiim Mini is a great streamer and I already knew the dac was very low quality so I had the dac end covered before purchasing the Wiim mini. The newer pro version should make a very good streamer/DAC for alot of people who require a small footprint, plug it in and forget it. 👍
the pro does not measure great either on the analog outputs but for the price its acceptable, the pro plus is a whole other league as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you! You open my eyes!! I think I want the WIIM Pro Plus but apparently is quite difficult to find it here now in the UK. I am a radio broadcaster and I have tons of music, all digitalised in high quality. All the music is stored in a rack of SSD hard drives. I am listening to the music through my iMac Pro, connected to an external DAC, a DAC-X6MKII, a cheaper one but with this and my active speakers, I think I have a decent sound. But I want more. I was checking more expensive options like the Eversolo DMP-A6 but as I said, your videos and mostly this one, had have opened my eyes. I would need some expertise advise here. I have the external DAC connected to the iMac Pro through an USB port that the external DAC has. I can see the WIIM Pro Plus and his younger brother, don't have USB audio PC port or whatever is the name, how could I connect the WIIM Pro Plus connected to the iMacPro if that's possible? No idea, any help will be much appreciate. Thanks again! Big fan of your videos!! Love it!
Hi santyjazz, the Wimm pro plus will be connected to your active speakers. Then you could play your music from your Mac, and use airplay to stream it to the Wimm device
Randy! I wish you would have released this video yesterday. Last night I ordered the Schiit Modi 3+. I already had the Wiim Mini based on your review last year. I probably would have purchased this today. Oh well. Keep up the great work!
I have a WiiM Mini and it's such a great streamer. I was wanting a Chromecast Audio, but it was discontinued years ago so I found the WiiM Mini. The only thing I wish it could do is Wi-Fi streaming with PowerAmp Pro. Bluetooth does work, but when nothing is playing you hear this faint static blip every couple of seconds and it's annoying.
Seems like a solid product. With this update, ever consider getting a buddy and doing a AB blind test with a handful of dacs under $1000? Digital audio really has matured even in the last 5 years.
As a new WiiM Pro user, I haven’t tried the eq, but wouldn’t it be amazing if the the WiiM could auto eq your system? The WiiM could play pink noise, listen with an iPhone mic or attached mic, and adjust levels to a point to get say a flat or enhanced response?? @WiiM
Wiim just added parametric EQ... buuuut (there's always a big butt), you can't really do auto or parametric speaker/room correction without a calibrated mic (unless you do it by ear). You'd just be baking in whatever weird sound response your phone mic has into your hifi system. Edit: missed the "attached mic" part. You can do it with a calibrated mic and software (laptop... Maybe phone?) With the parametric EQ now, but it's not automatic, and I don't know if it'll support prepared EQ files like some DACs do)
@@PTPerdix thanks for your kind reply! Good point on baking in iPhone mic foibles! I have a calibrated usb mic for my iMac, not sure this could be used with phone, but as you said, could do quite a few iterations to calibrate. If you use the dsp in the WiiM Pro is there a noticeable dsp degrade effect? I usually prefer not using dsp unless it’s nearly transparent… Thanks for your help!
Is it possible to use multiple Sources at once , so if u have a AVR and a Sound Bar, and the one is using aux, and the other the optical cable , so u can build a kind of muliroom setup depends on how long your aux cable is?? Bonusquestion : is it possible to stack a bt speaker ? I really wanna build a cool multiroom setup , with my existing stuff I have laying around - I would love to get some ideas to connect my non WiFi avrs to Alexa , so I have my own kinda multiroom setup ;D
The folks at Wiim continue to lead the streaming community at a fraction of the price. Yeah, there are more expensive, better quality, maybe better sound, but for what it does, it’s almost perfect.
hi, thank you for the detailed review of this Pro Plus. I am wondering if I already have a Aiyima T9 Pro, would I get better sound by adding this Pro plus Ak4493 DAC chip?
I can’t find a better streamer than the Wiim Mini, not the mention the programming. Used solely as a streamer, it’s just a gem! Plug it into your favorite dac of choice and you have all you need. So good so inexpensive, they don’t come around often in the word of audio reproduction.
@@kierand9410According to the CAM, the dac is fine. I’ve read even at a price point of $1000 but who knows I haven’t tested many dacs. My solo dac is a Denafrips Pontus2 which I very much love the sound of at a price point I can afford. The Mini/Pontus combo is more expensive if that matters but money is not the only thing here, I just like the R2R typology sound it produces. The Wiim company has done well to deliver a class A products at very inexpensive prices relative to the competition.
First off, great channel! Love all your insight and reviews of products. I picked this streamer up after watching your channel. I wanted to ask your advice on connecting this unit to a pair of Edifier s3000 pros. Would it be best to connect with optical , rca or stay with Bluetooth? The reason is there is no sub output on the Edifiers so I was planning on connecting a sub to the WiiM, if that’s possible without any issues. Thanks for any insight or suggestions you may have.
Newbie hi-fi question (apologies): does the fact that the Wiim Pro Plus includes digital inputs mean that I could use it (adequately) as a DAC for a CD transport (thus eliminating the need to shell out even more for an external DAC)? Thank you
If only it had ARC functionality. I want to drop an HDMI cable to a streamer, an optical from streamer to the DAC in my AXR100. That way I can use it both as a volume control preamp for my TV and it’s normal function as a phone controlled streamer.
So a better dac? Then I’ll just get the pro I’m planning on using it as a transport anyways so the dac doesn’t really matter for me now if they added I/O and like a full IEC out or something or maybe had a screen then I’d be interested
I have a WiiM Mini connected to a Schiit Modi+ and I love it. Only gripe I have is that the Mini does not have an ethernet connection and the one in the office tends to glitch the wireless connection from time to time. So my question is, if I get a WiiM Pro and connect it to my Schiit DAC would that be better than the Pro Plus from a sound perspective?
I've been using Qobuz for a year…still getting used to streaming. I've been using an iPod touch into a Dragonfly Cobalt DAC. I thought that a Wiim Pro Plus would probably sound better. I was so wrong! No comparison. So the Wiim goes back to Amazon. I wonder if I'll have to spend significantly more $ to beat the Dragonfly?
Would be interesting to see how this device, at $219 USD stacks up against the new "low cost" streamer/DACs from Cambridge Audio (MXN10 at $499) and the NAD CS1 (at $349).
It will all boil down to the software, the Cambridge software, CXNv2 was not even close to the WiiM software OS/App... The WiiM simply has them all beat, even the Node cannot compete with what WiiM has pulled off here. This is the best streamer by far that I have owned simply for the fact the software virtually works with everything I throw at it with nary a hiccup.
I have the MXN10 it has USB file playback of my SACD rips and sounds better than my Topping external DAC. No way the WIIM will beat that. You get what you pay for.
@@leo11877 The software/OS in the WiiM is incredibly good, use an external DAC... The WiiM Pro via digital coax sounds better than my $800 Mercury v2 streamer through my PS Audio GainCell DAC/Preamp via i2s or digital coax. The Mercury sounds thin, not as dynamic with a smaller soundstage over my Zu speakers. Where as the WiiM has more of an analog tone to it, more dynamic, and very good soundstage. I am using a 1970 vintage Sansui 4000 receiver as an amp. The sound with the WiiM Pro in the mix is incredibly solid, with a very pleasing sound vs the Mercury v2. The WiiM offers very pronounced bass, along with a more airy midrange than the Mercury. Highs sound better too, none of that digital harshness on this particular rig.
@@leo11877 at double the price, I would hope it would be better in a discernible way. Think the WiiM Pro Plus might give the NAD a run for its money though since it is using a lower end TI DAC chip. Curious, what do you think of the UI and O/S used on the MXN10? Does it work well? Thanks.
No audio. 😢 have it set to my Sony 1080 receiver over coax and besides myself. Will mess around more and put in a ticket but can't think of much more to do.
Ordered one early this morning! Can’t wait until I compare it to my favorite streamer the Eversolo DMP-A6. Looking forward to the next video of comparisons Randy.
Hi I have a apple airport but I have a problem with and only connects sometimes so i am looking for an alternative for my Bang and Olefson 3200 anf 8000 speakers called BO. and they told me to get a soundcore streamer at $1100. that's crazy ! will this work.
i'm so confused just when you think you understand everything something throws you for a loop. although i understand what gapless playback is i thought it was solely dependent on the streaming service, and not the HW/SW associated with Streamer and/or DAC. Apparently I had it wrong.
Hi Randy. I just discovered you as I’m doing research to try to do whole house audio for the first time. I’m not an audiophile. I’m a beginner. I’m the guy who would buy Sonos if it wasn’t so expensive. I’m trying to learn though. I just bought 2 Wiim pro’s. Can I hook speakers up directly to Wiim pro?
is it worth having a modi+ DAC if you have wiim mini, pro or pro plus ??? I have been listening to so many videos and was trying to follow suggestions, but it's getting confusing. Better to use schitt modi to overide WIIM mini?
QUESTION THOUGH: does it FINALLY have landscape mode for android? I've been waiting for it to happen since they said they're looking into it way back when they only have the original wiim.
Question for Randy and the masses - if you pair a set of Sonos or apple HomePods into a stereo pair, can you still stream using the wiim via airplay and have the proper stereo separation?
I have my mini hooked up with topping d50s. I would really want to know if the pro+ is better than that. You have tested that before so. A little more expensive, but also a remote.
Can you comment on how the volume steps up and down on the PTO Plus please? Are the increments very small? The Increments on my Pro were pretty big(nearly 10%)

I have a several Minis and a Pro. They all work flawlessly. You got it, Randy. Best bang for buck in streaming.
@Click-here_to-Massage----- Hi I emailed you but just to be shoor . A present sound fun!
I have the Wiim Mini plugged into a Schitt Modi 3 and Harman Kardon PM-650 from 1983 and it sounds great!
Great product sounds great, I think 😊
I'm rocking my PI with the Otto hat and the battery power supply. Love the DIY aspect.
Brilliant video, I was literally about to purchase the pro, now it’s the pro plus.
There are people out there who have ability to ‘listen to the DAC’.
Amazing.
Top 10 sounding speaker cables
😆
Compelling review. Now I am really on the edge of my seat. Look forward to what your ears tell you Randy. Great stuff. All the best.
Can’t wait for the dac comparison 😊
Grabbed one of these for $175 for prime day. Really wanted an all in one as currently I am using my Modi+ with other devices and having this stand alone with my stereo could be really useful. Quality wise this seems like the DAC at worst is just as good as the Modi+ which is all I need.
Finally got off my duff and picked up one of these and am plesantly surprised.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you so much, Chris!
Can’t wait for the next videos! Based on that I’ll dicide what is best for me! Thanks a lot randy!
The audio hero!
Been waiting for this as an all in one (almost) soundbar replacement
Soon the Pro will sport a Parametric Equalizer and support Logitech Squeezebox and Airplay Cast (whatever that is, I don't live in the iNiverse). So the Pro+ will as well.
Bet the internal dac on my Cambridge audio AXR100 will be good enough for just the pro… waiting for prime day 😉
I still find BluOS to be superior.

@@TriAmpMyFikinda like the $349 NAD Streamer?
Great review, and like that Tshirt.
Thanks!
You forgot to mention that the analogue to digital ADC also is improved, so when you connect a turntable to it, it will sound much better.
Why would we make That turntable signal digital with the ADC and make it analogue again with the DAC?
@@palmito22Multi-room streaming from turntable?
Thanks Randy, glad this is available now. This seems like such a great value for the price and I have been waiting to upgrade my Wiim mini.
The manual on the Pro says the following: "For bit-perfect audio output, opt for the digital audio output and activate the fixed
volume output, disable EQ and mono audio in the WiiM Home App's device
settings"
Whether the difference is audible or not, they seem to think it matters enough to put a paragraph about it in the docco. Your mileage may vary!
Seriously? Just received my Wiim Pro yesterday, hooked it up and I love it. Now I'm going to have to see if I'm sending it back.
Yes. In fact my adjustments were smaller than the EQ presets. My system is not dull I happen to like "top end"sound
Is the Wiim Pro Plus still available? I no longer see it on Amazon.
Your link goes to the WiiM Pro AirPlay 2 Receiver listed at $149.
What's up with that?
When the inventory is out of stock, Amazon removes the listing, but it should be showing again.
the pro does not measure great either on the analog outputs but for the price its acceptable, the pro plus is a whole other league as far as I'm concerned.
another nice one! looking forward to tomorrows video brotha. keep up the good work.
Thanks! Will do!
I'd be surprised if you couldn't cancel the order. Or you could get them both, compare, and return one.
I’m getting the sevens here soon. Is there a benefit to getting the pro vs the pro plus? I’m pretty new to all this. Thanks
Skylabs T-shirt! Cool! I need one of those.
Good quality can be cheap, I think 😚
Seems like a solid product. With this update, ever consider getting a buddy and doing a AB blind test with a handful of dacs under $1000? Digital audio really has matured even in the last 5 years.
As a new WiiM Pro user, I haven’t tried the eq, but wouldn’t it be amazing if the the WiiM could auto eq your system?
The WiiM could play pink noise, listen with an iPhone mic or attached mic, and adjust levels to a point to get say a flat or enhanced response??
@WiiM
I usually prefer not using dsp unless it’s nearly transparent…
Thanks for your help!
They just added a room analyzer as a free upgrade. Dreams do come true.
I use it with outboard DAC so for 70-100usd less older model is a better buy and offers the same quality if you use outboard dac
The folks at Wiim continue to lead the streaming community at a fraction of the price. Yeah, there are more expensive, better quality, maybe better sound, but for what it does, it’s almost perfect.
dx9 with a18t should destroy anything available, though i havent listened
yes dont add another amp, just those 2
Thank you Randy
I like to play Mario Kart and bowling on my Wiim. Tennis works great now that I have upgraded to the Wiim Motion +.
😆
hi, thank you for the detailed review of this Pro Plus.
So good so inexpensive, they don’t come around often in the word of audio reproduction.
cant agree more..if they sell Wiim Lite without built in dac..that will be even better 🎉
@@mohdpazlido you not like the DAC?
@@kierand9410According to the CAM, the dac is fine. I’ve read even at a price point of $1000 but who knows I haven’t tested many dacs. My solo dac is a Denafrips Pontus2 which I very much love the sound of at a price point I can afford. The Mini/Pontus combo is more expensive if that matters but money is not the only thing here, I just like the R2R typology sound it produces. The Wiim company has done well to deliver a class A products at very inexpensive prices relative to the competition.
@@kierand9410 the built in dac is just for convenient..any other external should be superior
@@mohdpazli superior in what sense? What’s the perceptible benefit?
I'm just seeing if you have reviewed any bluetooth transmitters for turntables
Thank you
I think so, yes.
If only it had ARC functionality. I want to drop an HDMI cable to a streamer, an optical from streamer to the DAC in my AXR100. That way I can use it both as a volume control preamp for my TV and it’s normal function as a phone controlled streamer.
When connecting a turntable to the analog inputs, is the PRO PLUS better than the PRO?
So a better dac? Then I’ll just get the pro I’m planning on using it as a transport anyways so the dac doesn’t really matter for me now if they added I/O and like a full IEC out or something or maybe had a screen then I’d be interested
Yep. If you aren't going to use the internal DAC, no use paying extra for it. Save yourself the $60 and put it toward some Worlds Best Cables instead.
@@rosswarren436 ya I was planning on having a custom Ethernet and coax cable made for it mainly for aesthetics and build quality tho
Just buy the wiim mini if it's to be used as a digital throughput streamer.
Save your money for more Important things.
I'll stick with the IFI Zen Stream and J2 combo. Qobuz and MConnect and its almost perfect.
Is this also a preamp? I was thinking whether I could pair this with the FOSI Audio V3 but could I just pair it with a power amp?
Do you need a streamer or can I stream from my laptop into my dac into my amp . I don't know what that thing even does. I'm so confused
Nobody chooses the NAD though.
Will mess around more and put in a ticket but can't think of much more to do.
can i hook this up the the klipsch fives and still hook the fives up the the tv via the hdmi arc and still take full advantage of the wiim?
There are a lot of HDMI ARC extractors/converters available, but I want one that uses a higher quality DAC.
Was thinking about getting Wiim pro and Schiit Modi, wonder how the DAC's would compare?
Can the audio out be set as variable and volume be controlled through the app?
I Bluetooth to an amp. Is this better ? As in could I tell the difference
Balanced outputs would make it perfect
is it worth having a modi+ DAC if you have wiim mini, pro or pro plus ???
I have been listening to so many videos and was trying to follow suggestions, but it's getting confusing.
Better to use schitt modi to overide WIIM mini?
QUESTION THOUGH: does it FINALLY have landscape mode for android? I've been waiting for it to happen since they said they're looking into it way back when they only have the original wiim.
For the price, no need for better dac. I would love to see a small screen or eArc for the real upgrade
Howzabout comparing this to the Argon Solo?
Question for Randy and the masses - if you pair a set of Sonos or apple HomePods into a stereo pair, can you still stream using the wiim via airplay and have the proper stereo separation?
For me nothing beats a $40 dell Wyse running Daphile (with the material skin) to an external DAC. you should do a video about it.
I have my mini hooked up with topping d50s. I would really want to know if the pro+ is better than that. You have tested that before so. A little more expensive, but also a remote.
Hi Randy. Great video! Would you recommend a WiiM pro plus or a combination of an Echo Link and a J2 for a good system? Thanks again!
How many speakers can i connect to the plus?
Can you comment on how the volume steps up and down on the PTO Plus please? Are the increments very small? The Increments on my Pro were pretty big(nearly 10%)
Wiim, Fosi, Emotiva.... we get it..
