Actually, there is no "sweet spot". Everythings depends on what you already have (which AV Receiver). I have a Marantz SR1510, which comes with an internal Spotify Connect API. If I am happy with Spotify (quality wise), which is the case, i am totally fine with my AV Receiver without any WiiM. If you have AV Receiver with good DAC and Toslink (optical SPDIF), you are totally fine with WiiM mini. Etc.pp. - if you have an Amplifier with no DAC at all, you should go for a Wiim Pro Plus, as it comes with a better DAC than Wiim Pro. And if you have no Amplifier at all, go for WiiM AMP. The Wiim Ultra is a Wiim Pro Plus with display screen. Its on you to decide if you need a display.
I guess I should have waited and not added the Ultra to my other WiiM Pro and Pro Plus since it was not clear when preorders were announced it couldn’t support Apple Airplay. I just got it at the end of last week and only learned this yesterday. Is there such a thing as an Airplay receiver that could be connected like an Apple TV to the HDMI? Your video is an excellent overview. I guess you can some how link a Pro or Pro Plus to it and still connect it in that way. Also glad that Roon is now certified and available. Thank you and take care.
Great overview, thanks! Would love to know the latency on the Pro/Plus optical (in-out) passthrough. I’d love to put this between my gaming pc and my speakers, so I could use them for streaming AND games.
I was searching for a transport, to connect to external DAC (Chord Qutest). I'm using Tidal connect (Samsung), so I assume Wiim Ultra and Wiim Pro Plus are both a good choice😊 Wiim Ultra has few more pros for me: display, USB port and hdmi. Both have 32 bit rate, but different max digital sample audio rate 768 Khz (Wiim Pro Plus) and (384 Khz Wiim Ultra). I am not an expert but high resolution on Tidal in most cases is 24 bit/48-192 Khz, so both should handle it (reserve up to 32 bit/up to 300 Khz), correct? Thanks✌️
Can the wiim amp receive analog input and send it over wifi to a wifi speakers? if yes, what specification should the speakers need? I would like to connect 2 passive speakers to the wiim amp and send the analog input both to the passive speakers and to another wifi speakers at the same time, would it be possible?

AirPlay 2 is lower quality than AirPlay 1. I hope WiiM adds AirPlay 1 to the ultra. AirPlay 2 is more about multidevice connection and power savings. It streams in short bursts and degrades the audio signal. Most people are not aware of this. Bluetooth is actually better than AirPlay 2 for sound qualityF but AirPlay 1 is better yet.
The ultra does not have the hardware to support Airplay. Furthermore Airplay 2 is in no way inferior to Airplay 1, it still supports lossless audio. Some streamer may not use the highest audio quality Airplay 2 offers but that is in no way an apple problem.
@ That is not accurate. AirPlay 2 for most people in most situations will not play lossless. Why? Either due to developer choice or the end point functionality of the receiving device. Simply put, as tested by Darko and others, “…most streaming service apps running on an iPhone (or iPad) will send their output losslessly to an AirPlay 1 endpoint but will re-encode the incoming stream to 256kbps AAC before sending it to an AirPlay 2 endpoint.”
@@Hawkeye242 The standard supports it thats all that matters. The reciving device must implement it and needs a higher cache, but we are living in 2024 so its not a big deal. Complain to the devlopers and not apple.
Did anybody tried USB digital out from Wima Ultra and compared with coaxial digital out? I have upgraded Wiim pro that sounds as good as Eversolo A6 already, and I need to know switching to Wiim Ultra is good idea.
no need to switch If stick with digital out and have decent dac. I just finished to compare wiim mini optical output to USB output from $8k streamer in $30k system. As far as sound quality concerned, wiim mini is really really good. also have eversolo a6 and wiim pro.
Just bought the tiny puck and it is exceptional. What a difference!
Pro plus seems to be the sweet spot. Saying that i have the pro and have no desire to replace it.

No Airplay on the Amp Pro either. Looks like things went sour with Apple.
Airplay is crap anyway.

Im not 100% sure but I think you can output your analog in to bluetooth. However you cant simultaneously send it to multiple outputs.
Great comparison👍
Time to update your stack with the AMP pro lol 😆
Excellent review young man!!
Hello. What is that model Turntable you use in your setup? It looks nice
It’s the Rega Planar 1. Hope this helps.
Think I’ll wait for the wiim ultra plus😂😂😂😂
Or the Wiim Ultra Ultra Pro Plus?
@ Black Edition
Is Roon confirmed to be natively integrated with the Wiim Ultra?
@smarthomesounds. Where did you get that record cabinet with the drawers, it looks really smart.
Is this likely to go the way of sonos where a major update ruins the playability and looses half of the functions previously available?
The WiiM app is very stable and quick. I think the Sonos app update is a big learning curve to all brands of what not to do. So hopefully no 🤞
