Ford Fiesta MK5 2002 Review - One of the best first cars for young drivers? | WorthReviewing

  • This is a review of my own car, the Ford Fiesta MK5 2002, in Panther Black. This is the first car I got after I passed my driving test, and I honestly love it. It's cheap, economical, and it's great dun to drive! In my review, I explain whether you really need a 'new' car, or if an 18-year-old car is just as good.
In the review, I mentioned the most common engines that were fitted into the Fiesta. Although I didn't talk about all of them, as there was also a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, too.

Drove a 2001 Black edition from 2003 to 2006. It was rusty after a few years old. Loads of fun to drive and looked great. The best Fiesta they made, the lack of rust proofing let it down

I had a W reg diamond white mk5 1.25 LX 5 door when I passed my test as it was cheap on insurance etc. I loved it very nippy, handled like a go kart, extremely reliable and great on fuel. Mine rotted like the rest of them rear arches went and it had to have a new sill and a repair to the other one as they were that rotten, you could literally put your hand inside the one sill. I had a 2001 panther black zetec S mk5 after it, that was so much fun to drive, the mk5 fiestas are the best handling out of all of them as they share the same chassis as the puma. The zetec se engines fitted to these are brilliant and were designed by Yamaha. I drive a 2008 mk6 fiesta zetec S celebration edition as my daily now, no more rot issues, more space inside and lovely black leather sports seats but not as fun to drive as a mk5.

I loved my Mk4 Fiesta (My first car bought for me) The 1.25 Zetec is such a fantastic unit and sounds great. Driver involvement second to none and endlessly reliable. I have a Fabia now which is a nice car but ultimately forgettable and always going wrong. Your Fiesta is in amazing condition. Still looks great and hope it stays that way for many years to come! Had a Mk6 but it was a poor effort in my personal opinion

I had a MK4 as a first car until shortly. Dirt cheap repairs that you can all do by yourself. A lot broke, as is normal with a 25 year old car. Payed 400€ for the car, another 600€ to get in running and then about 200€ for annual repairs and maintenance. Great deal and very enjoyable to drive.

these fiestas were really very good cars and very reliable. its very rare to see them in London. the 1996 to 2002 fiesta had a very common problem which was rust near wheel arches apart from that its amazing car.

Fantastic little cars , I had a mk4 1.3 finesse and I regret getting rid of it 11 cars later lol. Nothing has the feel of a mk4/5 fiesta, I drove a customers one a few years back and the grin was ear to ear. The new fiesta couldn’t hold a candle to way an old mk4/5 drives.

My first car was an mk4. With some mods that car was amazing.
Now I have an mk5 1.8 tddi, that I am restoring just for the fun of it. Comparing the zetec wit the 1.8 endura di, I would say in top speed the zetec nails, it was one of the best 1.25 cars back in the day.
Thing is the 1.8 as alot more power even though it's also 75 hp its alot more fun drive and its way more economical.
The fiesta zetec was actually one of the least economical 1.2 of the day, but it the engine was way more capable than other 1.2.
I am slowly restoring my MK5, replaced the front after the missus had an accident with it more than a year ago. Now it's been custom painted with black matte paint.
Soon I will put new alloy wheels and lower the car.
After I will redo the interiors.
The reason for this is that I moved abroad to the UK in 2009 and the car was left stopped at my dad's for 12 years. So it needs a restoration but I love the little Fiestas.
I had 2 and my dad also had a zetec.
Will take my 1.8 any day over my dads mk7 1.4 tdci.

New cars are great packed full of technology. but they are just disposable cars when all that gear gose wrong. many things can't be fixed without spending £1000s without warranty. It's sad to say they just not built to last aslong. I drive a 20 year old Volvo daily not great on fuel being a 2.5 petrol but it's such a great car no rust aswell.

I liked your humor,! inflatable girls were funny, I have a 1992 Mk.3. Fiesta, bought in 2007 for £400, with rust issues on rear wings, arches, front wing and lower valances, after fitting "New" panels costing £222 in 2008, and a cheap £500 respray I had a very smart looking car for total spend of £1,122, (video slide show of the car on my channel if interested to look?) 12 years on, and she is still rust free on the panels I replaced, as I did the panel anti rust prep work myself, and she has been super reliable, Ford Fiestas are great little cars, liked this review on the Mk.4. informative and funny well done!

    • @unregistredhypercam

What anti rust prep did you use? Any time I try and sort out rust or get panels welded in they always rust.

    • @Cortinaman63
      @Cortinaman63 4 роки тому

@@unregistredhypercam I remember those days to, then after years of trying different products, multi layers and my winter tests, I found what works long term, most people will not do it as it takes to much time, and costs to much,on product, but for a car your passionate about it is worth it, Cost to prep my lower rear valance in products £108 and I took about 10 days on that one panel , fitted it on car, exposed to sea air, and everything from the wheels, and over 12 years no rust! I use multi coats of different products with 24 hour drying times between, on super clean rust free steel to start with, U-POL Weld through Zinc is VERY GOOD, but the key to preventing rust is all about preparation work, if you cover rust, it WILL come Back, start with a clean steel and prep it right and rust will not form, I will be doing a video on my channel showing my anti rust rep work in more detail, (I have been told epoxy primers are just as good these days, and cost less than my way) but they are new compared to my way, and I know my way works, as it has had 30 + years under test.on real car panels in worst conditions.

A week ago I was paid 50€ to pick one up that was running on three cylinders. On the spot I could tell it's the ignition coil. 30€ for a NGK and it's running again. 5 door with AC(working)and 1.25 Ghia. Heated windscreen and fog lights. Unluckily very rust but good for one last TÜV(MOT) and will be rusted to bits in two years. I will give it away to a friend who went through private bankruptcy. The 5 door is just also better when having kids and who'll be picky when you get money to pick it up.

I currently drive my mum's MK5 and I just have to admit, it's horrible for tall drivers. I'm 1.92m and have to sort of split my legs to make space for the steering wheel. And yes, that's with the seat being all the way back and all the way down. And there's no way to change the steering wheel position at all. It's really uncomfortable when you're driving the car to work every day for one hour each direction.

Good review. But I've got a Fiesta Mk4 1999 Facelift (WReg) sitting on my parents drive with sadly broken front suspension coils. It stil works and has passed its MOT but driving a car off road-how it was designed after being on a drive for 15 years doesn't do it much good. Other people don't believe it hasn't passed 28000 miles yet. Still practically new in modern standards....
The facelift 1999 comes with the old style face without the bottom fog lights. BUT even though both your car and the 1999 facelift have 1.25 L petrol engines, the older version will do 0-60 in 9.3seconds (Checked November 2019 in Liverpool) and a top speed of about 106mph. I.e. The older version will beat the newer facelift in a drag-race when unmodified.

Stop Teoriom Spiskowym a VW Polo is more compared to a Fiesta, if you’re comparing a Golf you should compare it to a Focus, also this Fiesta design came out in 1996, a Golf mk4 came out in 2004 so it’s a much newer design. Incomparable
