Just wanted to say some comments about his costume show that viewers here lack knowledge of Russian culture. As a Russian skater he represented Russian mentality - he was expressing a 'character' in this piece. As a Russian I can see here references to almost 'magic' characters in Russian (Soviet) movies, etc. Taken out if this visual context the costume may seem over the top but to anyone familiar with Slavic fairy tales/fantasy cinema it totally makes sense...
I remember the papers here in America were in sour grapes mode. they couldn't pick on his performance but concentrated on his costume calling a squid or jellyfish.
