It is SO HIGH !!!! I can't even believe the 4A has finally been done. I thought yuzuru was our only hope!! This is incredibly impressive. This kid is insane, I wish he doesn't end up injuring his landing leg like our retired all time master tho.
I'm afraid so, all the legends have health problem after making history.Maybe skating indeed dangerous sports
Yuzuru could have done it if he was just a bit younger... You really need youth on your side with this intense sport...
Thanks for your excellent advice for this young champion.
Mr. Hanyu, Honorable Young Warrior, is a talent beyond this world inspiring everyone. I appreciate him, his skill and artistry. The future is very bright 😎. THANKS FOR SHARING HIM WITH US. 🙏
Was soll das alles bitte ?
@@daduschfrankel4844 ... Your name is perfect for you... In Chicago, they would call you__DaDOUCHE!!! So you even understand what a quadruple Axel is? Are you aware Hanyu never was able to land one cleanly and fully rotated?
If you’ve never watched figure skating then you should know that this kid just made history. People use to think that landing a quad axel was impossible but not anymore
It's like he froze for a couple of moments in the air. God, that quadruple axel is breathtaking! Truly historical!
I know. I just keep watching it over and over. Breathtakingly beautiful! How high was his jump do you think? It looks like his jump was so high. I read he said he is mulling over a quintuple axel in the future.
4A - 4To - 4Lz - 4S - 4Lz+1eu+3S - 3F+3To - 3Lz+3A .
That’s quite scary. Now he needs to bring artistry to his insane program. His technical arsenal is higher than Nathan Chen and obviously higher than Trusova.
Yeah I agree. Jumps are amazing, but he needs help with his choreo, and his footwork/edges need to be deeper.
That aside, an absolutely insane programme, and really well done. I'm sure his team are already working on the rest. It'll come as he matures. Can't wait to see his career progress! Well done to him 👏🏻💖🏴
@@lindatannock He's 17! The artistry and edges will come. His team has said he is prepping to do all 6 jumps as Quads in the free, with the 3Lz-3A combo too, this season - beyond words. A very special young athlete reaching for the stars.
Но Трусова девушка, сравнили тоже.
Well, Sasha is a girl. How can you compare them?
@@xmyza because many people said that she could beat most of men and they used to compare Sasha with men
He’s only 17 and already landed the world’s first 4A! Insane!
Check out Yuhuru Hanyu.
@@matsiesmith2425 I know about him being the first to get credited. I was sad that he fell in Beijing.
@@AveryWeinstein I think that they are all incredible. So beautiful to watch. Unfortunately for everything that's nice you have to pay a price. 🇬🇧♥️
@@matsiesmith2425 They are!! I’m sad that Yuzuru retired, but he left behind an amazing legacy!!
Only young and skinny skater can do that if he is getting older harder for him to do it because the weight
I have a feeling most people (not those true figure skating fans of course, just people generally interested in sports) do not fully realize how huge it is. It is like Usain's Bolt 100 meters world record level. 44 years of waiting for one more rotation. Great job.
I haven’t followed figure skating for years but I did a long time ago. (Less than 44 but still long) I saw the title and I HAD to see
@@paolo1391 OMG, why did I not know about this. What a great skater. Thanks for the link. Probably there will be others to come, but Ila's quad Axel is top notch.
A LOT of people who watched figure skating in the last decade don't watch is for the sport but for Yuzuru Hanyu, which is why so many are so negative towards someone else making history int he juno that he aimed to but never managed to do
still looks gay.
@@dleung4623 If that is true (about watching figure skating for Yuzuru only) then it is the strangest thing ever. I have been watching figure skating for over 40 years now and the reason I still enjoy it is there are a lot of talented skaters in this sport. Why not support them? Getting too invested in one person (or I should say - in one person only) makes some you all a little bit too sulky. Yuzuru was so successful but maybe let other people shine too?
He will be the one to watch for the winter Olympics in 2026🥰 if he survives that long without serious injury.
Lol if he’s like the other Russian girls… one season and he’s broken… at my times you would have a career of 8/10 years… now you are lucky if you see these robots for 10 months in a row… sad reality of Russian figure skating today.
@@dfmm9788 ilia is not Russian he is American
@@makaelaischillin I know… training method is the same. But there is more hope for a man to last than a woman. Women as soon as they develop physically it’s over. So let’s hope.
@@dfmm9788 who's his trainer?
I'm confused that people who bring up injuries in the comment section you must just be a negative person and always look for the negative I mean what's the point I'm completely confused by you and your like
this is is just so unreal wow. he just made HUGE history he’s the first to ever land a quad axel in competition ever and he’s ONLY 17. he’s truly a prodigy i only hope this new achievement doesn’t put too much pressure on him :(
Figure skating is very young sport. Some jumps become impossible when body fully develops. Look at women’s skating, most winners are teenagers and they retire by 20.
This is not to undermine any of his achievements. Quadruple axel will go down in history. I just hope he doesn’t injure himself before Olympics.
To be fair, based on the amount of quads he’s doing and must have been practicing, it will take a toll on his young body. He must ensure that as he matures, his technique will still work as his body will no longer be as light, soft & quite possibly underweight. He seems to have a very bright future ahead of him though, if his body doesn’t break down like many young skaters before him by the time he reaches the olympics.
So sad he fell once but he absolutely nailed the quad axle!!
Nothing sad about the fell, it's the quad axel !! The history
Just to remind us he’s human
Who cares he can stop it there and no one cares

@@nancydemoss2945 everyone will remeber the impossible have been done and will stay like this forever
Not only were the jumps spectacular, especially the quad Axel with over a 4 for GOE, but the music and choreography were some of the most original and fun to watch that I've seen in quite a while.
I totally agree! His program was awesome!
Very talented young man!
Music not too good. He’s fantastic, music was ridiculously mismatched for his talents.

@@joshmanfredi2432 excellent choice of music for him !
I wish him the best. He is young and fresh, amazingly talented, and has a sweet personality. I am definitely rooting for him.
It’s not just the quad axels that made that amazing, that sequence at the end was FIRE!!
0:22 4A
0:43 4T
0:59 4Lz
1:15 4S
2:31 4Lz + 1Eu + 3S
2:47 3F + 3T

And all perfect, all mechanically perfect. All clockwork, no Orange, no Style.....
@@emerogork5376@emerogork5376 Youth with blessings ,this young man slays old dragons.
Ilia should get at least 25 points for that quad Axel.... Somebody else posted that he is beyond human limits and I agree.... The GREATEST!!!!
no, the hands needed to be up to get more points
Huh? No, the GOE was nearly maximum which is affected by the quality of execution and in this case i doubt that hands in the air would have made a huge difference. What should be changed though is the base value of the jump which is ridiculously low
@@Ademir2809 it's not a point in determining higher GOE anymore
@@AC-zs8su The value is low to make less skaters attempt it. 4A is really risky jump that will make you injured in the long run
@@AC-zs8su how many total points did he get for the quad Axel?
He’s absolutely sensational and at such a young age, he’ll clean up his choreography a bit and only keep getting stronger and better. He’ll be winning the gold 🥇
What’s phenomenal is that not only did he do a quad Axel but did it with near perfection and calm and made it look easy! Amazing!!!
I can't wait to see how he grows as a performer now he has displayed he has the technical ability. However I feel it means it's opened doors for quintuples, but we'll see. We never thought a 4A would be possible and yet here we are
Congratulations Ilia Malinin! I hope Yuzuru feels assured that the young skaters are taking the sport to higher levels. Rest well Yuzuru! The next generation is doing great!
I love how that fall didn’t shake his confidence at all. What a champion!
He was up so quickly not missing a beat.
Absolutely outstanding. I'm aging myself but I remember the excitement of the first triple axels in competition. I just wish there was more emphasis on artistry.
Seems like he should have received more points for the 4 axel. 16 is a lot but it still seems like it should be at least 20.
It's purposefully scored "low" due to how dangerous that particular jump is . It's amazing he's done it twice in comp now but I wouldn't bother doing it again . Ain't worth it risk v reward .
@@amexred why is it so dangerous ? The centrifugal force isn’t massively different from quad quads which would have a higher bv …..
@@amexred there’s not much risk to doing it specifically in competition it’s just the repetitive work outside that’s damaging
@@dillonj_offical4420 Agree with you. Women are landing quads left right and center. It makes sense that this is the next iteration. I think a 5T is next and very possible.
some judges gave him a +2 GOE. SMH.
The jumps were great but he still can grow as performer and artist.
Absolutely.. Interpretation lacking... Long way to go still
He needs to work on artistry and footwork and he’ll be unstoppable
Given that he is only 17 here, I think he will get there. But agree...
You don't say
He's still very young, the men tend to peak in their 20s so he's got time to develop his performance skills
can we also appreciate the other jump elements in this program? his toe technique is superb.
The 3 lutz and 3A combo was historic too but it was overshadowed by his stunning 4A landing.

Wow!! To jump high enough and spin fast enough to do this is freaky, which is why nobody has ever done it of course. I don't know how long any skaters have even been trying it. It's only in the last 5 or 6 years that all the other quads beyond the toe loop started to be regularly executed in competition. Now all the other skaters will be racing to try to catch up. There's something so elegant about figure skating that I find fascinating. It's so cool and almost surreal...
When you did all these at age 17 where a lot of great figure skaters would not have done in their careers. What an amazing feat!
He is skating very beautifully like a flowing river.....
A quad axel base value of just 12.5 is beyond ridiculous. It used to be worth 15 points but that still isn't enough IMO. They really need to reward skaters who take that risk and be rewarded for it. If figure skating has any hope of progressing, then the scoring system has to progress along with it as well.
