hold the note until next beat or bar, so dont play the next note for a little bit
It's called a "tie". It connects two of the same note to increase note value. The first note of the pair is played, but not the second note.

Awesome song but you’re sorta over complicating it, well I mean you can play it that way but you can just use an open chord for the second chord you’re play on the 5th fret. Same with the chord on the 7th fret E string you can just play it on 2nd of the A. Saves you having to hop around so much.
