Marcia Clark completely blew it by treating kato as a hostile witness. She already had what she needed from him as a witness! All she had to do was reiterate that OJ wanted to talk at length about Nicole's dress. That he went on and on about it. She didn't have to have him categorize OJ's demeanor or mood during that for people to understand why OJ would obsess over that. That's only one way she blew it. She also refused to let a bunch of evidence come in through the cops because she knew the jury would be hostile towards cops. It's always way better to let all evidence in.
I agree. I do afford her grace being in the position she was going from the court room to home as a single mother, on the phone with Garcetti the next morning, just all the minutiae of stress that I think made her often blind to the forest from all the trees. But when justice is on the line? These mistakes have consequences and I think she made plenty just like this very one you mentioned. She should have just simply said "I have no more questions" and not impugned her own witness. All over a mood and demeanor no less...
Unfortunately I don’t think any of it would matter even if changed. The whole case and jury decision was based on race. Didn’t matter even if they had video evidence back at that time, they would argue it was doctored. It was made a black vs white thing and the jury was mostly black.
