I think you should have explored the amount of negated fall damage with armour, enchantments, potion effects, and others.

When you fall and are close to the ground, just out from the world and enter it again and you will not damage from the fall

Did you try landing on the edge of the block cuz i always do it when I fall and I feel I'm immortal. I created a new world then get some logs and I just jumped into a ravine landed on edge of the block then mine I do it all the time
