- Here's a quick update on how my training as a diabetes educator is going. As of right now, I am done my training and I am working on my own. However, there's always 2 of us working on at the clinic so I'm never alone. I've been so busy with the final week of my first year in the NP program that I haven't had a chance to upload a lot. Once I'm done this week. I will be making more videos 😊

WHO AM I
I'm Tania, a nurse practitioner student living and going to school in Ontario Canada. I've been a registered nurse for 7 years. I made this channel because I found that there was a lack of content relating to Canadian NP students on UA-cam so I decided to create this channel not only to document my journey through school but also to provide some helpful information to aspiring NP students 😊
I would love to know more of your journey as a diabetes nurse educator. Im currently looking to get into the 6month program to be a diabetes nurse educator..
Hi! Thank you so much for watching 😊. Glad to hear you're thinking of becoming a CDE. We definitely need more! I've always been interested in diabetes but I didn't really get into it until I went to the middle east and was really exposed to it there. I did my CDE right before going into the NP program. I made a video of the process on how apply. Hope this helps and good luck 🤞🏻🙂 ua-cam.com/video/SV4G56PDi2Q/v-deo.html
Wow! 7 years working 12 hours shifts has to be hard on your body and mental well being.
Indeed it was! I didn't really "feel it" for the first 5 years since I was younger and thought I was invincible lol. But as I started to get older I definitely started to feel it. But I learned a lot and made good nursing friendships along the way and helped me in my career path now 😊
Hi Tania!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been a nurse here in Toronto for 3 years and looking to transition out of bedside to Diabetes Education. If you don't mind my asking, what's the general salary of a CDE ( with a nursing background)?
Hi! It's the same as an RN as per ONA. Salary doesn't change, only the job opportunities change. Hope this answers your question 😊
Hi ,thank you so much for the video ,I'm interesting to diabetes educator course and my question is, can a RPN is eligible to take the course.
Hi 🙂. That's a very good question! And my answer would be I'm not sure. On the website it says you have to provide proof of your "professional registration". I would definitely reach out the the people that do the CDE and ask. I provided the website in the description box. I hope this helps! Diabetes care is so rewarding 😊
I'm just starting as a diabetes educator. What advice and recommendations do you give. Did you finish your NP?
Hi! Yes I finished my NP program and now I'm a diabetes NP 🙂. To be honest, the best advise I could give if you're just starting out as a Diabetes Educator is to get practical knowledge in the field. The best way I learned is by doing and teaching diabetes with "real" patients. It's such a different experience when you're talking to patients about their diabetes. As soon as you get your certification I would start looking for jobs in the field so everything is fresh in your mind and you can start working in the field. I hope that helps! Good luck on becoming a CDE😊
