First thing you get is HALF the working payload, if not worse (subtract passenger weight and camper top, etc,). That tow rating of 12,000 pounds is WORTHLESS as it can't handle the tongue weight. Figure 13% of trailer weight for tongue, so a 10,000 pound trailer gives you 1,300 pound tongue weight. Oops, out of payload! Better. not have anything in the bed, or a passenger, or a pet. Since it is a FIVE passenger truck, it just doesn't work. Bonus points on the XL. for the cloth seats.
90% of my truck driving is towing and hauling, the STX trim level is my friend. Use the $25-$30K toward my second non truck vehicle. Plus I'd feel bad for beating on a $80K truck.

I prefer cloth vs leather seats. I also prefer normal stereo vs infotainment screen. Double-din slot is handy for mounting one of my ham radio transceivers in-dash, under the stereo. Certainly don’t need or want brightly lit big screens, since a majority of my driving is at night..
I just went on Autotrader and found several older King Ranch F-150s 2012-2014 for 22k-25k with a little over 100k miles. Further proof that new trucks (especially luxury models) are a waste of money even in this current market. Let others pay the huge cost and take advantage of their depreciation later.
Not disagreeing but the fully loaded king ranch back then was also only like 50k. Which is still absurd to think they've drop to 50% but it's important to remember it's not the same 77k truck they're talking about.
@@jthomp997 Yeah and that's in this current inflated market too. This 77k truck will be worth a fraction in 10 years simply because it'll be a few generations behind and not the newest and greatest.
I always get the F150 XLT with 302A package. We don’t like leather seats so it gives us a few more creature comforts without going to leather. Just wish it had auto 4wd.
302A in this generation feels like the sweet spot. I’m still contemplating adding leather seats. While the cloth is surprisingly very nice, leather immediately improves a vehicles desirability to me.
You want heated mirrors and it jacks up the price by 6000$. Something that cost less than than 100$ to make. Those packages are so stupid. However those xl are nice nowadays.
If you plan on towing anything with significant tongue weight like a camper or plan on getting a heavy topper, winch bumper, etc., the base/lower trims make a lot more sense. Having an extra 400 lbs. of payload, even if this particular XL's towing capacity is slightly lower than the King Ranch, gives you a lot more usable trailer tongue weight headroom. Once you step up to a 3/4 ton, this becomes less of an issue, but in a 1/2 ton, a 400 lbs. difference is huge.
Wish Ford would put '78 Lincoln MK5 seats in the high trim F150. The current seats are NOT luxurious seats. I have F150 Platinum and I wish I had 1978 seats.
I think the XLT power boost is the cheapest model you can get the LED headlights and that honestly is the only other option I would want over what Andre has with his XL grade truck
Wow, that King Ranch is really nice. I like that Western style more than I do the Platinum's style. Still, the price is just absurd. No way would I ever spend that much on a truck.
I agree with Andre 100% that the preferred gear shift selector for an automatic is on the column. It just makes sense. Some of us are old enough to recall the movement from the floor to the column. Also, cloth is much more comfortable than leather.
What you forgot to mention is the XLT and up models have laminated front windows too. I got a couple of work truck spec and a fully loaded one, and let me tell you the road noise in the fully loaded one is like a Range Rover, and the work truck spec transfers a bunch of road noise. Now I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe the fully loaded/luxury models have a hydraulic dampener at the body mounts too. I know the Tundra has it in their higher end packages, but comparing the work truck and fully loaded F150 is night and day in terms of quiet and comfort. My 21 PB Limited registers 58-62 db at 70 w/o lumber rack, 64-65db with a lumber rack. My 16 work trucks registers 70-75db at 70.
Have a ‘19 KR Ultimate 350 DRW we use to tow the fifth wheel. On those long stretches the massaging seats are amazing. The vent/heat seats are amazing too. I’ll never be able to go back now. Also prefer the KR Ultimate over platinum as the interior is way better looking.
Again Ford must think we’re all stupid. What good is having 12,000 pounds of towing capacity when 10% of your tongue weight equals 1200 pounds. That means only a 150 pound person can drive the vehicle with nothing else in it, If your payload is 1300 pounds. What a joke!
Just curious, those self /continuously adjusting shocks, do you have to replace them every couple years or do they last for the lifetime of the truck? And how much do they cost to replace?

400lbs is a decent difference, but I think the smaller and lighter wheels on the xlt truck make a big difference too, takes a good amount of torque to get rolling, and smaller diameter wheels work like higher gearing to help low speed acceleration.
Xlt 302a and add Katzkins is the best medium. That’s what I did on my 2017. Of course these prices and market today is bonkers. I’m holding to mine for a long time.
I love seeing all the coments saying these trucks are way too much money. It's not too much money for the people that buy them. Do you people look at a $300k Ferrari and think "I would nver pay that much?" That car's not for you.
I would have loved to hear more about the technology like lane keep assist/adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning. I just purchased a new Ram Laramie and had no idea that blind spot warning was not standard. Awesome video guys as always.
I Love the adaptive cruise control. Lane keep assist I usually keep it turned off all it did on my Super Duty is vibrate the wheel, my Expedition it will steer you back into your lane. Adaptive cruise keeps the spacing from the vehicles in front of your, and if it stop and go it will bring you to a stop in traffic and re accelerate when the traffic starts moving.
Only reason I’d like a bigger screen in my XL is for the backup camera, specifically hitching up to my trailer. I can get the job done, but would be nice having a bit more resolution to see, especially in low light or super bright washed out lighting situations.
honestly i would take the base truck over the king ranch, just not a luxury person. Id much rather just have the exterior of the king ranch with the interior of the “base” truck
If you keep a truck 15 to 20 years like I do that extra 26k will only get you about $1000 more on trade in totally not worth it to me but to each there own in the end you have to be happy with what you buy
This is very illustrative of how manufacturers make a killing off of higher end pickups... there’s no way that that King Raunch costs Ford twenty plus thousand dollars more to manufacture than the XL version, which is very similar except for the goodies. Fat options are where the dollars are at. If you can put up with “plebeian” cloth seats and less creature comforts, you get all of the capability for far less.
In todays market it would be worth about 50k after 4 years. In a normal market it would of been worth 35-40k. These prices on trucks are out of control and seem to be getting worse and worse every year.

$97,600 for a tremor here in Canada. For $30,000- $40,000 above the xlt model I could do a lot of mod’s to the truck. It’s absolutely crazy the cost of new trucks.
You absolutely lost me at $77,000. I would Absolutely never pay that much for a truck, let alone a half ton. These prices are absolutely ridiculously high. Then, even though they're hybrids, gas prices are ridiculously high right now, so I wonder with the combined prices of the trucks and the gas prices, when are people going to stop paying these goofy amounts for trucks and suvs.
I remember in high school Driving my beat up Nova through the car lot....thinking I would never be able to afford a $5,400 79 Firebird Formula...Brand New.... 100k for a pick up....they used to be cheaper than cars
The more i look at these trucks, the more i feel like the best thing to do, is get a base model, as barebone as you can, while having the powertrain you want, and juat add the rest later by yourself. I've seen videos of poeple swapping dashes and what not from wrecked trucks into theirs. Lots of stuff you can find at junkyards. Some things wont work, because a lot is controlled by computers and stuff, but many things are just relays and servos that just require power.
That’ll end up costing a lot more money in the long run. Used, people will not value the Frankenstein truck as much as they would say a higher trim level truck that came from the factory with those features.
Crazy that people spend that kind of money on a truck. Ford making those fully loaded trucks does not surprise me because it is all profit for them but what does surprise me is that people actually buy them.
I've never had the slightest desire for heated seats, steering wheels or sheet metal, or tires, or door handles... How about a heated touch screen? I never wanted a touch screen at all. I LIKE having a key. I don't need theater lighting. I don't want a sun roof.
The only thing I don't like about the 2021 XL is if you order the hybrid powerboost option, you cannot get the STX appearance package. If you could, I think it would be one of Fords best sellers.
Truck luxury to me is a truck that has ac rides not like a rock has a leather bench seat can still do work and go offroading and have a radio and be simple to fix thats what all trucks should be and get 20mpg standard

Stupid people don't bother to care about price when they only see branding. Just like spending over $1000 on a phone every year
400lbs is a decent difference, but I think the smaller and lighter wheels on the xlt truck make a big difference too, takes a good amount of torque to get rolling, and smaller diameter wheels work like higher gearing to help low speed acceleration.
It’s tire diameter that affects gearing, not the wheel.
And y'all were crying about the new tundra pricing.
Xlt 302a and add Katzkins is the best medium. That’s what I did on my 2017. Of course these prices and market today is bonkers. I’m holding to mine for a long time.
Love that there’s no big dumb moonroof
Another great show! Great entertainment!
I love seeing all the coments saying these trucks are way too much money. It's not too much money for the people that buy them. Do you people look at a $300k Ferrari and think "I would nver pay that much?" That car's not for you.
Ones made for the masses the other is a very small niche car. Apples and oranges.
@@fritty9927 It comes across like people think the higher end trucks should be the price of a XL or XLT.
So... 1300lbs pay-load, and 3 lights lit up with 200ish lbs in the bed.
Power windows, doors, AC and cruise. That's what I care about.
I had blind spot monitoring in my 2021 ranger and it’s my favorite technology I’ve ever had in a truck
Every person that has the smaller screen version always says “I don’t need the bigger screen” but wishes they did. me being every person 😂
Not me
Only reason I’d like a bigger screen in my XL is for the backup camera, specifically hitching up to my trailer. I can get the job done, but would be nice having a bit more resolution to see, especially in low light or super bright washed out lighting situations.
I've never met one person in my life who wanted bigger and more screens in vehicles. Not one.
If you like road-head then you go with the cheaper truck so that there is nothing in the passengers way . Lol
honestly i would take the base truck over the king ranch, just not a luxury person.
Cool video. As someone who is getting ready to buy an Xl i approve this. The only poweboost i can find is used and 75k.... no thanks.
Don't need all those creature comforts that come with the Lariat trim and above but I do prefer the XLT over the XL. XLT is the sweet spot for me.
$77,000 for a pickup truck! unbelievable that's more than I paid for the first house I bought. What's it going to be worth in 5 years?
Well you can't find a decent house for that cheap anymore either.
In todays market it would be worth about 50k after 4 years. In a normal market it would of been worth 35-40k. These prices on trucks are out of control and seem to be getting worse and worse every year.
@@pacman1789 not even a decent. Just a liveable house is worth more than 77k
@@jthomp997 I did say you can't find a decent house for that price. Which pretty much means you can't find anything at that price range at all worth living in. You might be able to find a nice shed though.
@@pacman1789 just depends where you live and how big of house you want.
Absolutely mind boggling how expensive trucks are today 🤦🏻♂️ hell a Tacoma is only 5k cheaper than a trail boss and 77k for a truck just again mind boggling
The LED bed lights, hooks could have been optioned the XLT level 302A. Most of what you're paying for is the trim name.
The folding shifter is the dumbest thing ever. Wait till the mechanism gives out
People that buy these trucks usually get a new one every few years, they don’t give a crap what happens to that truck when it’s 10 years old and stuff is breaking left and right
Part alone is $1100
The XL costing over $50k is already laughably stupid and way too expensive. I wont even being to comment on the King Ranch.
Agreed. But people buy them, so Ford is just maximizing profits. Blame it on people taking out 7 year loans 😔😅
If you order your truck it'll be cheaper.
Paid $70k out the door tax included for my lariat f350.
That black and white still at the end is classic. It’s like what you get when you tell two five years olds to smile for a pic. Very nice job boys
You 2 make the best truck/cars review videos. 👏. Keep up the good work guys!
Pricey. Paid 53k for a 2500HD Z71 LT L8T 6.6L gasser. Way more truck than that base F150. 14450 towing, 3598 payload, 16620 5e or gooseneck.
After a lot of comparing of Lariats and XLT and STX. I bought an XLT 302A.
Obviously if I didn’t care about money at all I would go for a king ranch or Lariat, but all things considered a lot of the features on the king ranch just don’t feel essential.
Give me an XLT with the old max tow/haul package. To hell with all these digital screens and computers.
Dont cost them no 25k extra for them to add all that stuff in. Prob 5k or less a truck
Andre and Nathan make a great team. Nathan is so much fun to watch, and love the Roman jokes lol
That 5.8 0-60 was pretty impressive. It’s still stupid how much trucks cost now!!
“If you want a peasant sitting next to you” 😂 . Both of these trucks are beautiful. Great review guys.
Great job. Miss Roman Rant. Should be a weekly series.
That shifter is really, really dumb. Also, steelies for the win.
77 🤣🤣these truck prices are funny . People are going broke to look good love it
Wow! The weight load measurement system is very impressive! SHOULD help keep many folks out of trouble.
im wary of buying anything too fancy because there are more things to break down the road.
$97,600 for a tremor here in Canada. For $30,000- $40,000 above the xlt model I could do a lot of mod’s to the truck. It’s absolutely crazy the cost of new trucks.
Absolutely love Nathan and Andre videos
You absolutely lost me at $77,000. I would Absolutely never pay that much for a truck, let alone a half ton. These prices are absolutely ridiculously high. Then, even though they're hybrids, gas prices are ridiculously high right now, so I wonder with the combined prices of the trucks and the gas prices, when are people going to stop paying these goofy amounts for trucks and suvs.
i think its easier to justify if you plan to keep it for 8-10 years.
I’d rather have an XL, with options or XLT, with options. Both with a V8.
Love the Antimatter Blue on the King Ranch, but love the blue on Andre's truck too!
$25K gets you another Ford Focus to park next to your Ford F150.
Or as they said, a maverick
Am I the only one who sees the fully reclining seat since you'll have to live in this truck since you can't afford anywhere to live?
You have shown the trim levels over and over. I suggest compare between brands. Show what you get for $50/$60k/$70k for RAM/Ford/GM/Nissan!
Crazy that people spend that kind of money on a truck. Ford making those fully loaded trucks does not surprise me because it is all profit for them but what does surprise me is that people actually buy them.
They build them because people buy them... plain and simple. The high price of luxury trucks is the consumer's fault.
I've never had the slightest desire for heated seats, steering wheels or sheet metal, or tires, or door handles... How about a heated touch screen? I never wanted a touch screen at all. I LIKE having a key. I don't need theater lighting. I don't want a sun roof.
Exactly. And I don't know of anyone who wants all that garbage either
Thanks guys, another great video. Andre would you please list your trucks exact specific options so that I can duplicate it when I purchase mine.
Is punctuation also an unnecessary luxury?
Yeah I was surprised to learn my 2001 Tacoma SR5's A/C & Radio were actually an optional package lol.
A/C still blows ice cold and hot heat and the radio works great. Perfect beater truck, I'm happy.
I like the stx or xlt package the best. If I could have any half ton truck (money no object) I’d still pick the xlt, maybe lariat at the most. I currently have an stx
Great Video guys!
