  • Welcome to #Łukow. This city, just east of #Warsaw, is not on anyone's radar. Still it can be pleasant to hop by on an afternoon. I spent a night and checked it out. #Poland has many unassuming but nice places to visit.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, a large wave of Dutch settlers came to Poland. They also came to Mazovia, and they were mainly farmers. I have never checked, but there are several Dutch villages in Mazovia, where old cemeteries certainly remain. Check "Olędrzy" even in Dutch.

Yes, an interesting topic. In a village , in central Poland 150km from Warsaw, there was 'Olender' too. The richest in the village. In IIWW he helped to save the place as Germans wanted to burn down the village. It the place there were partyzanci - (underground polish resistance).
Something touched my ear that although this ( or rather was) is a typical farming place/village it had a help from one of the Polish kings.
Mightbe they imported "Olendrów" /plural of Olender/ to improve farming 🤔.
I do have to ask such subject some of yt historians.

      @@WarsawDiariesThe willow trees
that you can see in Mazovia growing
in rows along old water lines were
brought here by Olenders. They are
great for reinforsment of wet lands.
Since then they have become a symbol of Mazovia and you can
find one even in Chopins monument
      in Warsaw.

Yeah, Poland is a really nice place now. Unfortunately people abroad don't know it. They still think we are some post Soviet hellhole. It's really sad. I'm glad foreigners are discovering it though. We love tourists and I personally like foreigners and have friends from all over the world cause I work at an international school. Where ever you're from you're always welcome in our country. Have a good stay.

Not far from Warsaw is the Palace in Nieborów. Built in the 18th century according to the design of the Dutchman Tylman van Gameren. One of the most beautiful buildings of this type in Poland. I also recommend visiting the park that surrounds the palace and it is best to go there in May.

It's a palace near Łowicz. It's also worth visiting "Arkadia" - a beautiful park in the English style. Nieborów and Arkadia are worth seeing during your stay in Łowicz.

I saw your film and immediately commented on it. I am happy for your joy of traveling, but you came to a place from which I wanted to escape my entire childhood and youth. And I did. And now I see exactly what you see. Here is my post with your film.
(I'm posting this comment for the second time because the previous one disappeared - probably because of the link to Facebook, where I placed your film in my post under Walter Laydle - freedom of speech for capital means the same as the slavery of a serf).

Hello Leon. You at least have stations to check for cleanliness, here in South Africa most of the stations have been stripped bare, roofs, windows, pipes and wiring, the lot. When you find one closer to Cape Town and it's all there, I wouldn't touch anything like handrails or handles. I have just given up on thinking that things could get better here, hence my plans for relocating. I can't wait....👌❤️🇿🇦

Not far from Warsaw there are garden cities - Podkowa Leśna, Konstancin-Jeziorna, Komorów, Milanówek. Some of them, like Konstancin and Świder (now part of Otwock) are spa towns.

Łuków is on historical land Podlasie. In 1999 three was a big admistration reform and Mazovian voivodeship was created

    • @Vielenberg
      @Vielenberg 19 годин тому

Łuków was never part of Podlasie. Except for XIX century where it was part of the russian-created "Podlasie" governorship, which had little to do with historical Podlasie. Łuków was since medieval times part of the Lublin part of Lesser Poland province - not the "Lesser Poland Voievodship" created in 1999, but the historical Lesser Poland.

Łuków was not destroyed very much during II WW as Germans run away in July 1944 so quickly that not much fighting took place. It is a city in historically very poor part of Poland, sometimes called Poland B. So the lack of great historical monuments is rather due to the fact that there weren't any before. 🙂. Even thought Łuków was settled in XIII century as a border post in nearly wild area. It was initially guarded by few Templar knights. The name Łuków is derived from "bow", something like Bowtown, supposedely coming from those early days.

Łuków for centuries a royal city of the Polish Crown, belonging to the king. It hosted a Piarist College, that's why many prominent people come out of these land, among them Henryk Sienkiewicz.
