Yeah, the girls are kids here. The "1997" is the birth year of Suzuka (Su-Metal) that got crucified, and the performance date was on her 16th birthday. "Death" is a pun on how Japanese introduces themselves, desu. So, "I am Moa-Metal, I am Yui-Metal, I am Su-Metal, we are Babymetal. We are/death, we are/death, we are/death". Neck brace is a tribute to Yoshiki the drummer of X Japan who broke his neck during a performance, as well as in reference to an earlier song Headbangerrr which is also a coming-of-age song. There are several Metallica homage, including the massive statue. School girl becomes goddess through many spiritual symbolisms... it might be shock performance at first but if you think about it it's a pretty regular anime plot line in Japan lol Please consider checking out "Oh Majinai" they collaborated with Joakim Broden of Sabaton and it's glorious!
Just a slight correction to your otherwise well-done post...this concert was December 21, 2013, the day after Su's 16th birthday. Other than that, you are pretty spot on. Just for context and pronunciation purposes, the word "desu" in Japanese is pronounced without the "u" at the end, so it sounds like "des"/"death". The Japanese friggin' LOVE puns like this! One other context thing for anyone, Yoshiki from X Japan was told he MUST wear the neck brace anytime he performs or risk doing serious, permanent damage to his neck...possibly even killing himself. This is because (as the OP said), he severely hurt (not sure if he broke) his neck because he would headbang SO hard during performances.
For a bit more context, if you're familiar with the controversy surrounding Doug Walker and Channel Awesome, one of the complaints was that during a crucifixion scene in one of his movies there were insufficient safety measures in place causing the actor in that scene to require hospitalization and being told to walk it off. You see, Doug or whoever did the directing actually suspended her by both her hands and feet. Even if there's no driving of nails in the skin as in the classic crucifixion story, the part that's painful and the reason it's an execution method is from the gravity of being suspended forward and the damage it causes to internal organs and the neck as well as causing suffocation, not the nails. Compare the crucifixion scene in Life Of Brian where everyone on a cross had a stable platform to stand on. So the brace may be an extra safety precaution with a plot device to keep it from being out of place or in a nod to Yoshiki it may be a way to avoid a repeat of what happened to him. That's also why the crucifixion scene here was a bit of a white knuckle ride wondering if this is OK and safe considering she's technically still a kid. That's the same reaction I have every time current era X Japan plays Kurenai or X and wondering if I'm going to see Yoshiki unresponsive or dead mid song. They've lost enough members already. They don't need to lose their leader too. Then again Yoshiki's known to be physically delicate while Toshi's been known to be emotionally delicate. Speaking of which, have you read Toshis book yet? That ones a pretty wild ride too.
Babymetal's manager/producer Kobametal has never been shy about "borrowing" other bands' imagery for Babymetal's show or merch, and the crumbling statue is just one of them.
This song was their intro/hype song for a long time. Here it's being played at the end of a show. Great to show off the stage production in Japan, but not to show off BABYMETAL vocals. Check out Road of Resistance Live in Japan.
- First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of BABYMETAL! - BABYMETAL is a metal/j-pop fusion band formed in 2010, they call their music “kawaii metal” (cute metal). - The three members of BABYMETAL include the lead vocalist, Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, born 12-20-1997), “scream and dance” members Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno, born 6-20-1999), and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi, born 7-4-1999). - This show was on December 21st, 2013 and was a show to celebrate Su-Metal’s 16th birthday. The crucifixion at the end of the show was meant to symbol Su giving up her life as a J-Pop idol to be reborn as a metal goddess. - This show was in Makuhari Messe and had a crowd of about 8,000-9,000 people. This is quite small compared to some of the shows they do now, but this was also way back in 2013 before they had even put their first album out. - The part where you mention Su-Metal’s make-up running, that’s because during the song before this, she sand a slow, emotional ballad and she started to cry. She is a phenomenal vocalist. - This is the third song in what some fans have coined the “Trilogy of Death”, which refers to the last three songs of the Legend 1997 show. These three songs would be: Headbanger, Akatsuki (Unfinished), and BABYMETAL Death. These three songs tell a really neat story to close the show on. - The neck brace is a reference to the “Headbanger” music video. It is referred to as the “legendary corset” and is an homage to X-Japan drummer Yoshiki who injured his neck while head banging. - There is a LOT of weird, complex lore around BABYMETAL. Even hardcore fans don’t understand all that stuff. So take all that lore at the begging with a grain of salt lol
@@pugh3896 Yes, YuiMetal left due to health reasons but she's an actress and idol now. As of this year April 1st (not a prank), MomoMetal (one of the Avengers) was added as the 3rd member.
Good reaction (you probably didn't need to cut anything on this one) - and you eventually found the translation for the opening intro. Legend 1997 was the title of the show - it was December 2013 celebrating Su-metal the lead singer's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997 so she is the legend of 1997. Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14. Basically this show was the final step in BABYMETAL transitioning from Idol group sub-unit (it had this narrative running all the way through and even started with a lip-synced dance remix of their song 'Headbanger') to independent metal band - it was also Su-metal's final step in her transition from J-Pop Idol - she was sacrificing her human existence and life as Suzuka Nakamoto, a J-Pop Idol, to be reborn as Su-metal, a Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance. (They have a lot of lore, just run with it) 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener (without the crucifixion) - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:- "B - A - B - Y - M - E - T - A - L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death." It is a play on words. There is no 'TH' sound in Japanese, so to a Japanese speaker death sounds like desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means "To be - I am - you are - we are - it is" etc ... so in Japan you might introduce yourselves as "Metal Mass desu" (We are Metal Mass). All they were doing throughout the song was introducing themselves by name and introducing BABYMETAL by name - and 'death' is just the sort of thing you'd expect to be chanted by any self respecting metal band and their audience while the lead singer is crucified. There were a couple of homages in this performance too. The opening drum beat is an homage to Metallica's 'One' and the statue crumbling at the end pays homage to Metallica's Justice For All tour of 1989 where they also had a statue (Lady Justice) crumble at the end of their shows. The neck brace is a tribute to X Japan drummer/pianist/songwriter/composer Yoshiki who damaged his neck so badly headbanging that he has to wear a neck brace most of the time, especially when performing. On special occasions 'BABYMETAL Death' was used later in the show - Legend 1997 was the title of the show celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday ... and they only crucify Su on special occasions. So far that has happened 5 times, the last was at Legend S in December 2017 to help her celebrate her 20th birthday - and that one had extra flames. Did I mention? #notacult Every song they do is different, so don't expect a crucifixion every time - do expect choreo and lots of energy along with great music and Su-metal's vocal skills. For your next song I think I would recommend 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (so same show a couple of songs before this one), but you could pick pretty much any other of their songs and you'll enjoy it. Some songs lean more towards their pop roots (it sounds like you already heard 'Gimme Chocolate'), others are good and heavy and they do everything in between, none are the same and nearly all of them will surprise you in the best ways. Live BABYMETAL is always best although their official videos are also very good.
@@joec9693 They had a show six months earlier at the end of June 2013 called Legend 1999 as well - that was celebrating Yui's and Moa's 14th birthdays.
The neckbrace is an homage to X-Japan who's drummer broke his neck headbanging. Their producer Koba who put this all together is a big fan of Metallica (that was the riff from One at the start) and X-Japan. Also the statue is the Virgin Mary but it's also an homage to the statue in 'And Justice for All'. I recommend 'BxMxC' it's their newest music video and very different from what you've seen so far. This concert was for the 16th Birthday of their lead singer Su. She was born in 1997. She is the legend of 1997. They had a concert Legend of 1999 six months earlier for Yui and Moa's 14th Birthdays. They are only 2 weeks apart in age. People think they are sisters but they are just the same height and weight and dressed alike. Their faces are actually quite different they don't look so similar in street clothes. Their producer Koba thought they were too talented for Jpop and stole them for Metal. In the Name Of Goddess In the Name of Justice In the Name of Metal In the Name of The Fox God
"The neckbrace is an homage to X-Japan who's drummer broke his neck headbanging." In the words of the legendary Pickles, "That is the most metal thing I've ever heard in my life."
This band is a gem. Everytime you look away for a second there is a new, even crazier release. Collabs with Dragonforce, Sabaton, Bring me the horizon, polka influences, rap song. This band is a bottomless reaction material.
You'll find many tribute and homage in Babymetal. They respect their senior in Metal world. Neckbrace and the big statue behind them is some of that. Next : Babymetal - Headbanger live Legend 1997
Congratulations, Baby Metal was my gateway drug to Japanese hard rock/metal, I'm 60yrs old and was sad with Western music 4yrs ago and discovered Baby Metal, you now have a responsibility to yourself to explore Love bites, Mary's blood, Namophila, Aldios, and of course the greatest band on the planet, BAND MAID!
They are chanting, “Desu”, pronounced des. It sounds like they are saying death, and it is the name of the song, but in Japanese, desu means, “This is.” So, “Babymetal desu”, means This is Babymetal.
The main Lead Guitar player has passed away since this video was shot. He died after a freak accident where he fell off a tower while he was star gazing. He was one of the best and will be missed by all Babymetal Fans.
Welcome to the world of Babymetal! Cool reaction, this song is typically the intro song for their concerts so that is why they don’t sing in it it’s really just a way to hype the crowd for what is to come, it seems you have chosen two songs from opposite ends of the spectrum, the rest of their discography offer more musically and vocally but still keep that same energy and spectacle, I look forward to more 🦊🤘
Welcome to The One and the Fox Hole guys!! Now you need watch Road of Resistance live in Japan! Is absolutely Amazing! Great react. See you in the next 🤟🏻 🦊 🔥 🔥 🔥
Good first reaction, BabyMetal is refreshing especially in this shitty years of pandemic, don't fell strange and just accept them, like the singer (Su-Metal) says, "Don't think, FEEL!" Next, should HEADBANGER from Legend of 1997 live, expect the unexpected, metal can be happy too. Keep the good work and keep them coming
Suzuka Nakamoto aka SU-METAL born 12/20/1997 had just turned 16 yrs old the day before this concert. Yui Mizuno aka YuiMetal was born 06/20/1999 and Moa Kikuchi aka MoaMetal was born 07/04/1999 Check out Rondo of Nightmare, Mischief of gods intro. It is a Su-Metal solo.
This whole show was an old fashion Rock Opera. Over the years Babymetal has become known for their live shows. Babymetal MV are totally worth watching. But Babymetal live is on another level. The energy, the 3 ladies now, the fans and the Band known as the Kami Band create a great show. GJ on the reaction. you guys got a lot of what was going on.
I saw Sabbath live in 1976, Babymetal live in 2020 and hundreds of other Metal bands in the 44 years that separates those two gigs. Babymetal and their brand of Metal, Kawaii (Cute) Metal are the most refreshing new genre I've seen since Slipknot first appeared 20 years ago. They fill arenas with ease and have played: Wembley Arena 12,500; Budokan 14,000; Yokohama Arena 17,000; Saitama Super Arena 36,500; Tokyo Dome 55,000 (2 consecutive nights). They are in the middle of a 10 night run of concerts at Budokan, an arena that bands only play when they're invited to (The Beatles were given one night). The band the girls use - The Kami (God) Band are all superb, massively respected Metal musicians and you might enjoy seeing a Babymetal performance where all 4 band members play a solo as an intro to really appreciate their skills. Try the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek (yes, Babymetal do venture into subject matters that other Metal bands fear to!), 'Catch Me If You Can', which has English subtitles so you can sing along, the 4 solos and a heavyAF song: ua-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/v-deo.html . Oh yes, I almost forgot...#NotaCult, #DefinitelyNotaCult, #NoSeriouslyItsNotACult, #AnyoneSayingWeAreACultWillBeSacrificedToTheFoxGod
Great reaction! Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy" and a few months ago it was announced that the album won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. BABYMETAL has been melting faces for TEN years. Su, the lead singer, is currently 23 years old, while Moa and Yui are 21. Yes, they were very young when BABYMETAL was formed! In this video, this concert was for Su-metal, the lead singer's, 16th birthday. BABYMETAL have performed with, toured, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. 🦊🤘
Most dont start off with Babymetal Death. Not much of a lyrical song but its great stuff. Hope to see more Babymetal reactions . This was in honor of lead singer Su' s 16th bday. Yui and Moa are about 14 here. The band is The Kami band. Sggestions.. Megitsune Headbanger legend 1997 live Rondo of Nitemare( misfits of god intro) Road of Resistance That last song gets copyright hit almost all the time but sometime it gets thru.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 2019 had BABYMETAL's longest US tour so far. They played 20 dates, including their first arena show in the USA at the LA Forum. That was also the album release concert for 'Metal Galaxy', their third studio album.
Oh!! and then there is Black Babymetal, also!! Kami-Band performs 4 pieces that are written by them (Mischief of Gods intro), Sui has 4 solo songs, and Yui & Moa(Black Babymetal) have 4 of their own too!!
Babymetal seems to be something you can never un-see , My first video I saw was Gimme Chocolate , I was sitting there going WTF , you noticed the shred right away with Death , it took me about 3 straight views to realize the music is crazy good. I turned out to love babymetal , if you do other video's you learn Suzuka is an amazing singer with a phenomenal voice. I would suggest going through a few more older songs , then at the end listen to BxMxC to see the fully grown up Babymetal. The third album has a more J-pop feel but some songs still shred . I still think they gave a great kick in the ass to metal at a time when the metal scene was dying.
*BABYMETAL - LEGEND 1997 CONCERT*. Song: BABYMETAL DEATH. The monologue at the start is in Japanese. So hear is (The English Translation of the opening Monologue). "Legend One-Nine-Nine-Seven. It is the story that, receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal, she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess. The gene which has been determined from ancient time is destined to be guided, boarding on the ark of time. The apocalypse prophesied the DOOMSDAY. Towards it, there remains… little time… BABYMETAL DEATH is normally the song that they would open a show with as all there are doing is introducing themselves and geting the crowd fired up and ready for the rest of the show. The lyrics start with the crowd spelling out "B - A - B - Y - M - E - T - A - L" then the girls tell us who they are "Su-metal desu (I am SU-Metal") , "Yuimetal desu (I am Yuimetal"), "Moametal desu (I am Moametal"), "BABYMETAL desu (we are Babymetal"), now this may look a little strange to you as when introducing themselves individually it is ("I am") yet when introducing themselves as a group it is ("we are"), lets explain that first thing when saying the word "desu" (the U is silent) so when Yui is introducing her self she says "Yuimetal des" but as Yui is saying the word "DES" at the end of saying it she will put her tongue between her teeth makeing a sound like "TH" so you get "Yuimetal des-th" and that put her tongue between her teeth makes the word "Des-th" mean (I am), now when they are introducing them selfs as a group they say "Babymetal des" but they don't put they tongue between her teeth at the end of the word "Des" this makes the word "Des" sound different and changes the meaning of it to (we are), ther is one more word to the lyrics of this and that is the fans line or word in this song they are to chant "Des-th" but even that neads explaining nothing is ever easy with Babymetal, they like to play with things especially words there sounds and meanings they noticed that when introducing themselves in Japanese saying the word "Des-th" ("I am") it sounds very much like the English word "DEATH" they liked that so for the fans part in this song it would be in English to chant "DEATH" repeatedly, all so that is were they got the song title as well it is not just *DEATH* the song title is *BABYMETAL DEATH*. Well that is it for the lyrics in this song they would do this twice then the music go's crazy good and the girls run around all over the stage interacting with the fans and geting them up on there feet bouncing and geting the fans chanting "Death Death Death Death Death Death" they would keep this going for a time ending up in one big chant from everyone of "BABYMETAL DEATH" a big explosion lot's of pyrotechnics end of introduction song everyone ready let the show begin. But this time BABYMETAL DEATH was not played at the opening of the concert it was at the very end of the concert the last of a five song encore, so why move this song from the opening to the end of the concert, well the (LEGEND 1997 CONCERT) was a special one from the beginning to the end but we are not getting it to that now this is about one song in it and of course it had a special role to play in this concert but one all bye it's self, the concert was named LEGEND 1997 because that was the year SU-METAL was born on the 20/12/1997 this concert was on the 21/12/2013 the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday and as SU said once "this was her birthday party concert and that all the fans coming to her party to help her celibrate her 16th birthday was the best gift that she had received that year". So what was this songs role to be at this concert, well like it says in the opening monologue "receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess", now how did that work like this, the smoke that appears around SU's feet before she collapses was to put her to sleep, the crucifixion is the abandoning of being human but not before receiving the legendary corset (the neck brace), the scream her rebirth as a Goddess, and the chanting of "Death Death Death Death" with crossed kitsunes (the Fox sign) that is the army giving there Goddess her power, first Yui and Moa face the army and receive there power then they turn around and give that power to SU-Metal for she was never to be just a Goddess SU is a METAL GODDESS, she is our Queen, our Goddess. "All hail our QUEEN". "All hail The GODDESS of Metal". *SU-METAL*. Bye the way #NotaCult, most definitely #NotaCult and anyone claiming different will be dragged in front of your Goddess and thrown into the pit of frogs or if you catch her on a bad day she will just burn you.🤘🦊🤘
I always imagine the reactions of the concert venues' staff, like the bodyguards, to those performances in metal shows... I imagine them telling their families what happened the next day and they are like so confused 😂
Suzuka is actually quite a good vocalist. You should check out "Road to Resistance". Also, you should look at their performance at Sonisphere 2014 and the background story behind it.
now you have to check and react to BABYMETAL 's "road of resistance" - ua-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/v-deo.html and "Headbangers legend 1997" , "Karate", "pa pa ya" ......
Watch your views go through the roof. These girls have dedicated fans who absolutely love them. It’s easy to see why. Headbanger next, you will love it. But there are literally dozens of absolute bangers to enjoy.
Death used to be their Intro. "Death" sounds pretty similar to the Japanese "Desu" which means something like "my name is" . And about the lyrics it´s only the girls names and "Death" . The neckbrace has something to do with their song "Headbanger"
the neck brace is a nod to I believe, the drummer of x japan (Correct me if I'm wrong) where he hurt his neck headbanging at a concert and wore it while playing concerts during recovery. Headbanger while it may still be linked, lyrically is about a young girls first time experiencing a metal concert.
@@DrunkenIdiot85 Maybe they have it from X Japan. In Babymetal it was first part of the oficial video and the performances of Headbanger. Death came later. But it could really be they took it as a refference for Yoshiki. At the 2 Tokyo Dome concerts all the fans got a necbrace that had build in LED lights that made syncronized light effects at certain part of the concert.
@@belichterdonborek7593 I always thought death came before headbanger, just because it was an intro song and part of how they started as a group. I'm no expert of any of this just a fellow fan passing on what i do know. Kitsune UP!
@@DrunkenIdiot85 Headbanger was I belive the 3rd Babymetal song. Came out when even Su was still at Sakura Gakuin. And they even performed it at a Sakura Gakuin festival. Death came out in 2013 together with the first album I guess.
Great reaction, guys, love your ability to just enjoy what you see and the positive vibes you guys are giving off, too. Babymetal is worth the journey - the more you get to know them, the more you'll grow to love them (Babymetal, Kami Band), the amount of work and passion they've put into their performances is off the chart. Cheers!
Nothing strange going on here as you been told in comments just our Queen becoming our Metal Goddess Thats offical won Metal Goddess Several times at awards . I think they stopped nominating her because she would only win it again but thats just an assumption by me . Babymetal are about light not darkness there music has a positive message i know it makes me very happy . In there early days they toured and opened for groups like Metallica, Red Hot Chile Peppers, Judas Priest, Korn and Rob Halford joined them on stage at the APMA'S. Apart from Avatar and the HU who opened for them US tour 2019 they had Sabaton and Bring me the Horizon open for them in Japan and done a collaboration with both groups as well . warning they are addictive and you might get a few more fans turn up #notacult 🤘🦊🤘
reacted to Babymetal and in one day they have hit the number 10 spot on videos viewed on your channel. At least you started out in the right order if you were at their concert. This was sometimes the opening song. So if you really want to get to the "WTF" moment .... next should be "Gimme Chocolate, then Road of Resistance, and finish melting your brain with Headbanger Legend of 1997 Live. You will be so confused... Good Luck!! and buckle up.... its going to be a bumpy ride..!!
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance] , SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], SPIRITBOX [Belcarra], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], and many more...
Whoever suggested you watch "Death' as your intro to Babymetal did you dirty. Gimme Chocolate, Road of Resistance, and Karate are the only acceptable songs to introduce someone to Babymetal with. Please give them a listen
Glad you guys discovered Babymetal, check out the song Headbanger and you will understand the "neck brace thing" if you watch the music video for it, if you want something a bit more recent look for Pa Pa Ya
Su-Metal, the girl crucified ir the lead vocalist, in other comments there are a lot of amazing Baby Metal recomendations. But my sugestion is for you guys to check Black Baby Metal, which is the name of the two other girls act when Su-Metal is resting during concerts. The best song, in my opinion, is Sis. Anger, but Onedari Daisakusen is awesome too. Nice video as well, congrats.
Nice reaction. Have subbed. If you enjoy Baby Metal, you will also want to react to the weird and amazing output of Band-Maid (try 'Onset' live), Wagakki Band ('Homura/Akatsuki' live 2015), Love Bites ('Holy War' live) and there are a ton of other related bands from Japan.
The theatrically & vibe of this reminds me a lot of of In This Moment. I've been missing concerts a lot lately, but this just makes me miss them so much more!
JRock and JMetal is mind blowing good and plenty. Band-Maid, Lovebites, Aldious, Asterism, Mary's Blood, Unlucky Morpheus, Bridear, X Japan, Ningen Isu, Galneryus, and more.
If you want to know where the neck brace comes from, both from this video, and members of the band wearing in various other videos, check out X-Japan. Neck brace is a tribute to Yoshiki, the drummer, pianist, co-founder of X-Japan. Definitely check out some of the X-Japan videos. I especially recommend any of the videos from the Last Live that took place in December 1997. It was set to be their last concert. They reunited several years later but without one of their guitarist, Hide, who died half a year after The Last Live. This band was a major influencer on Visual Kei and Rock/Metal in Japan. Listen to them, Love them, Respect them.

Maybe summing up: DEATH is an instrumental piece that Babymetal use to open their concerts in the past. The main girl has some number where she go solo, e.g. AKATSUKI. The two side girls are well represented in the song ONEDARI DAISAKUSEN. The song of three of them is MEGITSUNE. The neckbrace was told in HEADBANGER MV 2012. It is also a reference to Yoshiki, an X-Japan who hurt his neck from too much headbanging. Thanks! Looking forward to your next Babymetal reaction video! ^^
Yo i think that main guitar bit they're playing during the crucifixion scene is the deus irae, which is a classical set of notes often used in theater and musicals to symbolize death (you hear it repeated a lot in the musical Sweeney todd)
I cant help thinking that the spice-girls and slayer had three love children back in the late 90s, and this is the result! Not really into the whole industry-produced thing, entertaining live performance though! lovebites/bandmaid and others are more my thing👌👌👌
You must react another song of babymetal bro, rondo of nightmare live @budokan (in 7minutes) And then BxMxC official video And then the best road of resistance live in japan 😁😁😁😆
The girls at Sonisphere were Su 16, Moa and Yui 14. They were bumped up from a small side stage to the main stage. Check out how "nervous" they were. I ❤ Babymetal.
Nice Reaction :--) but "Be Warned !" Once You let them Grow on You , You'll Never Gonna Be Able to Get Rid of Them ! ;-) ''BABYMETAL''' (One word !) refers to "the birth of a new kind of Metal, they call it 'Kawaii Metal'' ("Cute Metal" ;-) (The name in fact has nothing to do with the age of the girls, it is often thought of when looking at their previous work ) "Kawaii Metal" is Mix of J-Pop & "Every" kind of Metal !! Because of the Mix they will never bore you !! (That is if your open to Metal Sub-Genres because they have almost every metal genre in their repertoire ;-) (+/- 50 songs) So If you're willing to do More BABYMETAL? Just be prepared & Buckle up !!! Because your in it for A Hell of a Ride ;-)
To see more of the band, you must watch "Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischief of God intro" (The band is called Kami Band, that means Band of God's), and another nice song to react is "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" :)
Baby Metal was the last concert, I went to at the Hammersmith Odeon in 2019. It was intense, first time I have felt energy past from the group to the audience.
Their backing band is the kami band, really great band, you should react to babymetal's rondo of nightmare with mischiefs of god intro, the live version. And the intro is a must, it's where the band showcasing their skills. Good job guys 👍
ye dudes have no clue how good this band is in terms of production, singing and music wise. you will be blown away. will be expecting more babymetal reactions. good luck and see you guys in the fox hole!
The neck brace. The biggest metal group in Japan is X-Japan, who are like the Metallica of Japan. Their drummer Yoshiki cracked a couple vertebrate headbanging, and had to wear a neck brace while performing. Babymetal's neck brace is an homage to Yoshiki.
I've seen the live the live show as you just saw is just crazy there are quite a few live DVD's and blu ray's which are worth watching the Neck Brace also features the song Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! so it's worth reacting to the music video of that one I herd at one of the concerts they gave out aloud of them that actually lit up as you head banged the crowd was instructed to put them on when they played Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! I was ant there but it must have looked amazing.
The opening licks and the statue are a tribute to Metallica. Metallica is among the girls' favorite bands and BabyMetal has opened for them. Their first major appearance outside of Japan was Sonisphere 2014 in front of 60,000 metal heads. Death was their intro song and much different than this performance. By the end of their 30 minute show the crowd was into it and screaming, "We want more". 3 little Japanese girls dancing and singing in a language these metal heads did not understand. it was the start of something amazing. Although BabyMetal has ventured and conquered different genres of music, in 2020 they were named the 10th greatest METAL band of all-time. Keep that in mind as you react to more BabyMetal.
It's funny you mentioned a Sabaton concert you went to, as they opened for Babymetal in 2018, and Joakim performed a song with Babymetal. In fact, his image is a main part of Babymetal song called Oh! Majinai. As far as collabs go, Babymetal has performed songs with some rather big names in metal, like Rob Halford and Dragonforce. I'd recommend the videos for Akatsuki and Rondo of Nightmare (with the Mischiefs of God intro).
Please react to more of their songs! I also would like you to look into the members more just so you have more of an idea of who they are and why we love BABYMETAL so much
Yes, DEATH is the lyric. BABYMETAL DEATH, Su-metal DEATH, Yuimetal DEATH, Moametal DEATH. In Japanese, this is a pun and sounds like We are BABYMETAL, I am Su-metal, etc.
A lot of people just can't get past the image. I have all their albums, I dont know what their saying but love the music. Its fresh and different and I'm a mid 40s traditional 80s metalhead. I never saw what they looked like, heard karate on the radio and investigated more.
Due to the death/desu wordplay, someone walking by the venue might hear "DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! in English, or "IT IS! IT IS! IT IS! IT IS!" in Japanese. ;)
Someone may have already mentioned this but BABYMETAL has a song featuring Sabaton on their newest album, Metal Galaxy. I would recommend working your way up to that one and get to know the three original girls first from their two previous albums. Live BABYMETAL is best because they are amazing live and since you like theatrical performances, well BABYMETAL is full of that. Megitsune (the official music video) Karate (official music video) are good though as they are really well done videos. Headbanger legend 1997 from this same concert would be a really good one to check out.
Hi !! Well , I am " a metalhead" , I have been listening to metal for more than 10 years and Babymetal has become in one of my favorite bands of all time by far, they are awsome, I hope you can give them a chance and watch more songs. Be prepared, this is just the tip of the iceberg they are a gender by themselves hehe You'll see. What I highlight the most about Babymetal is that you shouldn't only listen to them, you must see them, if you only listen you miss half the experience, and it's fundamentally that, an experience, very few bands have given me that and no band is like Babymetal well... graeat reaction!! I loved it !!! Greetings from Mexico! /o/
We are not a cult. Oh and you should check *Catch me if you Can* next, live at Budokan, don't use that compilation of several concerts with 20 million views that someone uploaded.
You've probably heard everything before. This is Su-metal 's transition from princess to Metal-queen. The neck brace ,I think , maybe a little morbid is about the guitarist who died accidentally at a star gazing event. If you go down the Fox hole the Babymetal history is AWEsome.
They remind me of the girl bands that the industry creates to make money, it is not something illegal but I am not very attracted to that type of music
It is a very bold choice to start with Babymetal Death. Whoever suggested it should have waited a little bit. It is a good performance but a little bit intense.
You guys are amazing. Just found your channel & it made me miss having that interaction with that metalhead friend who's the only one that knows & understands. Watching your reaction to Hand Maid next.
School girl becomes goddess through many spiritual symbolisms... it might be shock performance at first but if you think about it it's a pretty regular anime plot line in Japan lol
Please consider checking out "Oh Majinai" they collaborated with Joakim Broden of Sabaton and it's glorious!
@@mr.osclasses5054 thanks for the correction!
When they say coming of age, Remember that in Japan, 16 is the age of consent.
Dude thank you for the explanation- I just got into BABYMETAL a few months ago and this was very helpful ^^
Hey cryptic I been subbed to your yt channel for quit a while
At first it was originally 3 members but one of them left so it's just two now
@@mountainking8855 ty i'm glad you enjoyed the video(s)
@@pugh3896
Yes, YuiMetal left due to health reasons but she's an actress and idol now.
(They have a lot of lore, just run with it)
'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener (without the crucifixion) - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:- "B - A - B - Y - M - E - T - A - L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death."
It is a play on words.
#notacult
Every song they do is different, so don't expect a crucifixion every time - do expect choreo and lots of energy along with great music and Su-metal's vocal skills.
My God, I a jealous. Your post is informative and cool and complete. Greetings from Greece!
Yeah
I've always wondered why they picked 1997 it seemed so random thank you for that!
@@joec9693 They had a show six months earlier at the end of June 2013 called Legend 1999 as well - that was celebrating Yui's and Moa's 14th birthdays.
@@Grington300 I've seen so many videos with the titles and never understood before why they picked those dates thanks for clarifying.
In the Name Of Goddess
In the Name of Justice
In the Name of Metal
In the Name of The Fox God
Thanks Koba 🤘🦊🤘
"The neckbrace is an homage to X-Japan who's drummer broke his neck headbanging."

I turn 50 later this year, and I was in the same boat. Now I listen exclusively to babymetal and band maid
They are chanting, “Desu”, pronounced des. It sounds like they are saying death, and it is the name of the song, but in Japanese, desu means, “This is.”
So, “Babymetal desu”, means This is Babymetal.
Technically, it's a very intentional wordplay, playing off the fact that the 2 words do sound identical in a Japanese accent.
technically they misspronounce desu so it sounds like death intentionally
Actually death in Japanese accent is just plain Des
@Der Bettnässer =^.^=
Guys you need to see Rondo of Nightmare, kami Band performance...
Yes, the "Mischief of the Gods" intro lets the Kami Band take the spotlight.
Good first reaction, BabyMetal is refreshing especially in this shitty years of pandemic, don't fell strange and just accept them, like the singer (Su-Metal) says, "Don't think, FEEL!"
Next, should
HEADBANGER from Legend of 1997 live, expect the unexpected, metal can be happy too.
Nice
This whole show was an old fashion Rock Opera. Over the years Babymetal has become known for their live shows. Babymetal MV are totally worth watching. But Babymetal live is on another level. The energy, the 3 ladies now, the fans and the Band known as the Kami Band create a great show. GJ on the reaction. you guys got a lot of what was going on.
please next react BABYMETAL - ijime , Dame , Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014 UK (official)

There's a video called unhelpful guide to Babymetal which explains more about the band

It is the story that, receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal,
she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess.
The gene which has been determined from ancient time
is destined to be guided, boarding on the ark of time.
The apocalypse prophesied
the DOOMSDAY. Towards it,
there remains…
little time…
BABYMETAL DEATH is normally the song that they would open a show with as all there are doing is introducing themselves and geting the crowd fired up and ready for the rest of the show.

Death used to be their Intro. "Death" sounds pretty similar to the Japanese "Desu" which means something like "my name is" . And about the lyrics it´s only the girls names and "Death" . The neckbrace has something to do with their song "Headbanger"
It's Babymetal Death
the neck brace is a nod to I believe, the drummer of x japan (Correct me if I'm wrong) where he hurt his neck headbanging at a concert and wore it while playing concerts during recovery.
Their cutest song: doki doki morning (they're so young on this one)
Their heaviest song: "Tales of the destinies / Sis Anger"
I LOVED BABYMETAL! Especially their Gimme chocolate.
You cut out the best part! That changeup halfway through the 2nd spellout of BABYMETAL is epic.
Cheers!
Nice reacción, rondo of nightmare live. Your mind Will blow away .
Nothing strange going on here as you been told in comments just our Queen becoming our Metal Goddess
Thats offical won Metal Goddess
Several times at awards .
I’m glad the youtube overlords blessed me with the chance to see your channel :3
next react to babymetal - road of resistance live in japan
Share headphones and hear half the song.
I subbed to watch you tumble down the foxhole.
Kitsune Dao!
reacted to Babymetal and in one day they have hit the number 10 spot on videos viewed on your channel.
Three clips you should watch:
PA PA YA (live), Road of Resistance (live), Karate (video clip)
Babymetal is idol pop/j-pop combined with some super heavy metal. And I love it.
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance] , SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], SPIRITBOX [Belcarra], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], and many more...
Yeah I echo your suggestion on Lovebites. A real surprise gem there.
Whoever suggested you watch "Death' as your intro to Babymetal did you dirty. Gimme Chocolate, Road of Resistance, and Karate are the only acceptable songs to introduce someone to Babymetal with. Please give them a listen
Awesome reaction, I saw them in new york. You do need to see them, their concerts are amazing.
Glad you guys discovered Babymetal, check out the song Headbanger and you will understand the "neck brace thing" if you watch the music video for it, if you want something a bit more recent look for Pa Pa Ya
My first exposure was from "Catch Me If You Can". Most find BabyMetal through "Gimme Chocolate" or "Headbangeer!"
Here are some songs to check out among the many they have done.

There are many more that you can choose from.
Guys you must try Babymetal rondo of nightmare live, its some heavy shit😊
The neck brace is a reference to the video of another of their songs, "Headbangeeeeeerrrrrrr!!!!!". It's become a bit of an iconic symbol ever since.
Maybe summing up:
DEATH is an instrumental piece that Babymetal use to open their concerts in the past.
The guitarist always smiling 3:39 was Mikio Fujioka. Passed away early in 2018.
I cant help thinking that the spice-girls and slayer had three love children back in the late 90s, and this is the result! Not really into the whole industry-produced thing, entertaining live performance though! lovebites/bandmaid and others are more my thing👌👌👌
Please react to road of resistance live in Japan..this will answered all ur questions about them and their fan bases..
Yes! I adore them and I’m so happy to see you react to this !
You must react another song of babymetal bro, rondo of nightmare live @budokan (in 7minutes)
And then BxMxC official video
And then the best road of resistance live in japan 😁😁😁😆
The girls at Sonisphere were Su 16, Moa and Yui 14. They were bumped up from a small side stage to the main stage. Check out how "nervous" they were. I ❤ Babymetal.
Nice Reaction :--) but "Be Warned !"
Once You let them Grow on You , You'll Never Gonna Be Able to Get Rid of Them ! ;-)
''BABYMETAL''' (One word !) refers to "the birth of a new kind of Metal, they call it 'Kawaii Metal'' ("Cute Metal" ;-)
(The name in fact has nothing to do with the age of the girls, it is often thought of when looking at their previous work )
"Kawaii Metal" is Mix of J-Pop & "Every" kind of Metal !!
Because of the Mix they will never bore you !!
(That is if your open to Metal Sub-Genres because they have almost every metal genre in their repertoire ;-)
(+/- 50 songs)
So If you're willing to do More BABYMETAL?
Just be prepared & Buckle up !!!
Because your in it for A Hell of a Ride ;-)
To see more of the band, you must watch "Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischief of God intro" (The band is called Kami Band, that means Band of God's), and another nice song to react is "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" :)
This neck bracelet it is a tribute to the greatest Japan metal band -> X Japan
Babymetal has suprisingly extensive lore, which got me interested in them besides their wild concept and extreme talent.
Baby Metal was the last concert, I went to at the Hammersmith Odeon in 2019. It was intense, first time I have felt energy past from the group to the audience.
I love how he connected neckbrace for head banging. Because there is a song called Headobang that explains it! XD
Please react to Karate for your next Babymetal video!
Their backing band is the kami band, really great band, you should react to babymetal's rondo of nightmare with mischiefs of god intro, the live version. And the intro is a must, it's where the band showcasing their skills. Good job guys 👍
Candlemas was my band of preference in the late 80s in high school with Messiah Marcolin singing lead.
ye dudes have no clue how good this band is in terms of production, singing and music wise. you will be blown away. will be expecting more babymetal reactions. good luck and see you guys in the fox hole!
Great reaction! Can't wait for more BABYMETAL reactions. Hope you do "Rondo of Nightmare" or "Akatsuki."
For the neckbrace thing you have to check out the official video of Headbanger
Try more Babymetal and expect unexpected every time :))))
They have song with Joakim Broden - Oh Majinai!
What I highlight the most about Babymetal is that you shouldn't only listen to them, you must see them, if you only listen you miss half the experience, and it's fundamentally that, an experience, very few bands have given me that and no band is like Babymetal
well... graeat reaction!! I loved it !!!
Greetings from Mexico! /o/
Odd to do this one first, but still a great reaction. I like you guys, I hope you do more Babymetal, they are incredibly diverse and amazing!
How did I get from Jazz to this channel? Why do I love it
I wouldn't have started with this one since it's basically an instrumental lol
You guys are amazing. Just found your channel & it made me miss having that interaction with that metalhead friend who's the only one that knows & understands. Watching your reaction to Hand Maid next.
