Literally....he is the Terminator, and I really mean that.
Kai started out with a blast beat that lasted over two minutes straight. Not a lot of drummers that can do that. He is a machine!

I told you Kai gets a real workout in this video. By the way Jari the lead singer has part of one of his lungs missing due to having TB while serving in the Finnish armed forces.
Someone told me something like that in the live premiere. Even more impressive!

@@VikingReacts Oh dude, you didn't deserve to Facepalm yourself. Haha. I've been familiar with tracks for years, and have been a playback tech on tours, and the most I've ever seen on anything is like 40 tracks stems for one song. When I found out Jari was using 200-300 per song on this album, I was mind blown.

"Static" noice in beginning, wind in threes and waves on the shore. Even after listening to songs 100 times, you can start hearing a "new" backtrack" sounds you missed before, amazing how different speakers and headset makes you get the last % of this masterpiece.
Seeing Kai exhausted but happy at the end (no wonder why) I always get that one image, when someone says: "Ooooops, sorry, camera wasn't running. Just let's do it again" ;-)

Great reaction! Love this band! Time from the same session is a great follow up to this. The "static" you mentioned at the beginning is actual a sample of the sound of rain, trying to set the "scene".
Ah, well...it didn't sound like rain to me :P. But Time is one I am looking forward to myself. It will happen :). Thanks for the compliment!
Wintersun are incredible. One of my favourite bands. Jari is a musical genius. We wait in hope for Time II.

I really enjoy your reactions and I hope you take the time to explore Wintersun. Many reactors stop after 1-2 songs which is really unfortunate. In particular, many studio tracks are great to listen to because the depth of the composition and complexity of the music and overall recording. All the Sonic Pump material is a great place to start too!
I don't think I will stop that fast but there is just so much to react to. Be aware that in the little over 1 month of me reacting... I've build up a list that could keep me busy for 3 years if I make 3 videos a week :P
@@VikingReacts I certainly get that pressure. Each band is a new rabbit hole and your requests increase exponentially as your channel grows. I just hope you stay with them a few times a year or at least listen on your own time since you really seemed to enjoy them.
Either way I'm looking forward to where you take your channel. There are a ton of other bands to enjoy as well such as Walk Into Darkness, Eluveitie, and as a lover of Vikings you have to check out Nanowar of Steel - Valhalleluja official video.
@@chilly2go Valhalleluja is a permanent fixture on all my playlists; it just makes me happy every time I hear it. Nanowar of Steel are always amazing, but including Angus McFife on that song just takes it up an extra notch.

Lovely greetings from Germany wild Viking, I would recomend something that might get you in the mood to battle if you don't already know it. It is a Band called Heilung and the Song is Alfadhirhaiti , yeah a real tounge twister, but it means Allfather. It is amazing ritualistic, looping up and hypnotising. The studio version has clearly a better sound, but the live version is amazing too. I would recomend Blind Guardian, The Bards Song and Valhalla too, staying in the right theme.

@@VikingReacts Another great Blind Guardian song that not a lot of folks react to is Nightfall-the live from Rockpalast version. Its the title song from their album Nightfall in Middle Earth, which is entirely based on Tolkien's book 'The Silmarillion." Even if you dont react to it, Viking, give it a listen.

Not sure, forgot the exact number) layers, all composed, recorded, arranged and mixed by Jari in good old Devin Townsend-fashion👌🏻He's an incredible composer. (You can listen to the isolated tracks on UA-cam to fully appreciate all the details) "Time" from the same rehearsal session for your next Wintersun reaction!

I really enjoyed watching you on this reaction. I love this song so much. Kai wrote all the drum parts and I read somewhere that this successor had to simplify the drumming! Can understand why lol!!

Thank you for reacting to this song, it’s a fixed feature on my all time playlist! Jari Mäenpäa is a genius. The guitar work on this track is outstanding with Kai as a fixed base. They changed the riffs sooo many times. It keeps fascinating me.
Yes! One of the reasons I didn't headbang as much is simply because the kept changing the rythm! Loved it though!

7:03 Funny you mention Vivaldi. Jari (who started wintersun and is the writer of there songs) has done is own take on the four seasons called "Wintersun - The Forest Seasons".
I actually love Vivaldi so it registered right away. Cool that they actually use these influences in their music!

Kai has said in an interview this was the last song they did in this session. They've played three songs before, and Wintersun doesn't have any short and simple songs. That's why he was kinda drained.

Not sure but I think you mentioned Vivaldi in your reaction at one point. Wintersun has an album called The Forest Seasons that includes 4 songs for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Of course one of Vivaldi's most famous works is called The Four Seasons.

Ik ben een beetje laat, maar who cares! Wintersun absolutely blew my brain holes! That is some high IQ metal! So now I'm watching other people's brain holes blown by them. Ah, the wonderful world of youtube.

This is not a criticism at all, since I understand it, but it's funny how nowadays most Wintersun reaction videos treat Kai as the main star. I mean, he definitely deserves all the praise, and since he joined Nightwish it's understandable that he's more recognizable, but I wish Jari (Mäenpää) would get more recognition since he alone creates Wintersun music and most other stuff related to the releases. The rest of the band's role are just to play on gigs, but they do contribute as backing vocals in some of the songs and Kai played drums in the first two albums.
Jari is an absolute madman, but that's also his weakness. He's too much of a perfectionist and overloads himself and you have to be inhumanely patient with waiting new releases.
I recommend you to react to at least these songs by Wintersun: Time (Live rehearsal) and Loneliness (Winter) (lyric video). If you love harsh vocals and black metal, then you should definitely check out Eternal Darkness (Autumn). That's my all time favorite song.
Haha, well... if one actually listens to the performance you will hear how persistent the drums are. If you look at the video you'll see him absolutely sweat it out the entire video. That is why he gets a lot of attention. By no means did I want to downplay Jari. That is why I add captions next to my commentary ;)
