- In this video I test the claim that Instafire can be used as a fuel to boil water or cook over.

Cool product! Thx for the heads up!
Most welcome. Thanks for commenting
Excellent job. I’ve watched several videos that failed to maintain fire in the snow with that stuff.
Thank you very much. The trick is to stir it which can be diffraction if it is under a pile of wood. Thanks for commenting
That stuff would be good in any hiking, camping backpack.
Good test Mr. Young
Thanks.
Even for home use !
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for commenting
Great addition to any kit!
Good to have for an emergency fire starter. Thanks for commenting
good test in cool temps as well as on the snow. I do not have any of this
I felt the best test would be in the cold and wet as that is when I would not want to be struggling to make a fire. Thanks for commenting.
Great video Mark, thanks for testing this. It's good to know the limitations of a product!Cheers!
That is what I had hoped to share. Thanks for commenting
Nice video Mark, I have noticed the same with the ash/crust. Thanks for posting. For people in the USA that don't want to buy bulk, you can get this at walmart as well. In these small pouches for $1 last time I checked.
It is an interesting product with some benefits but also some drawbacks. I feel the crust prevents the product from really working well. Thanks for commenting
Mark, thanks for sharing with us.
You are most welcome. Thanks for commenting
Good, honest test!
Glad you liked the video. Thanks for commenting
Looks like a interesting product Mark👍🔥Thanks
Hey Wade. It is interesting but there are better fire starters. Thanks for commenting
Thanks for a look at this Mark. I absolutely hate this product. I purchased several packets at my local Lowe's Home Improvement, and tried it out as a fire starter only. If you are going to use it to try to get marginally dry material going, having to try to stir it every so often is not easy to do at all... especially when the "pile" is already under wet twigs and smalls. This product doesn't meet my needs. But again... thanks for showing this as a cooking fuel (another miss on their part).
I agree there are much better fire starters on the market. I have reviewed some and have a a few more I am testing. I had hoped to show the truth of this product without being too overly critical. Thanks for commenting
It would be a good backup I think. Thank you for sharing
It does store well for that purpose. Thanks for commenting
Looks like a good starter but I don't like that you have to keep stirring it. Thanks for sharing Mark. Hope you are well.
Hi Mark. Stirring is my biggest gripe with it as well. Otherwise is works pretty good. Thanks for commenting
Great review, Mark. I hope your coffee was hot enough. It does look like a good fire starter.
Barely...good thing it was clean water from home😬
Thx vor Testing

Took a spark pretty easily!
Better than I expected. Thanks Steve
Interesting product, Mark. Well worth having J,I,C. ATB T God Bless
Hi Terry. Hope all is well with you. This stuff will store well. Thanks for commenting
Man i wanna get some just to play with it!
😄
I will save you some of mine. Thanks for commenting Randal
I think this would be useful for an emergency kit
It would definitely store well for that purpose. Thanks for commenting
It kind of reminds me of wood pellets. I wonder how the two would compare ounce for ounce. Could you get a cup of water to boil for the same weight? Wood pellets might not light so easily when they’re wet, but they’re dirt cheap.
What is interesting is that an older version of this product was mixed with wood pellets. I asked the company about this and they responded the new version was intended to burn longer. It may be that it burns with less intense heat now as well. Thanks for commenting
1.75 oz $1 US at Walmart. Got some today.
Cool... Only place I have seen it in Canada is at Mountain Equipment Coop
Interestin product TY! That Hex looks good and easy...your thoughts please??
I hope to do review of the Uberleben Hexa shortly. Thanks for commenting
Did you get cut or bit on your nose? I hope you are ok. Anyway thanks Mark for the video and I hope you get a chance to review the Uberleben Hexa, I'm curious if the hexagonal shape really helps to produce more sparks.
I was waiting for someone to ask about that. Little bit of soot form playing with fire. I hope to do a review of the Uberleben Hexa soon. Thanks for commenting
What are your thoughts about using hexamine tablets as fire starters?
Hexamine would work well as a fire starter. I have not had a lot of success bringing water to a boil with hexamine but it burns plenty hot and long enough to get a fire going is wet conditions. Thanks for commenting
LIKE ( Never Lost ) SAID TRY WOOD PELLETS. BUT I WOULD MAKE SOME UP BEFOR HAND. SOAKE THEM IN HOT WAX FIRST. THEN BAG OR PACKAGE THEM HOW YOU LIKE. THAT WOULD MAKE THEM WATER PROOF, BURN HOTER, AND CRUSHING SOME UP TO SAWDUST WOULD LET THEM LIGHT WITH THE SPARK ROD. GOOD LUCK
Not sure if you saw my reply to Never Lost but the old Instafire used to have wood pellets mixed in. I still have some of the old stuff and actually like it better than the new stuff. I may do a comparison video. Thanks for commenting
YOUR WELCOME. I WILL BE LOOKING FOR MORE VIDS.
Rant dumb thoughts (spelling intentional) : Wind screen focuser. Keep metal uncoated paper clips in gear bag. Use to reseal packages, wire repairs, hangars, clothes pins for drying socks, etc. Hand sanitizer is cheap, but not a light in weight fire starter. Since I use solid fuel tab stove that can double as twig stove, solid fuel fire starter always in my kit. Rant dumb thoughts completed.
