  • Hello everyone- how do you do. If any of you have ever wondered how we get our fuel tanks filled up with fuel, I’ve put together this video that shows what goes on. In case you wonder why nobody is wearing masks, this video was done in 2018, before Covid- relax. The process I show here is what we call ‘Manual refuelling’ as in we normally send fuel requests digitally to fuelling company. Today it’s by a fuel order form to engineers. Initially a standby fuel figure is requested while we wait for the Final Zero Fuel Weight for us to request final fuel required. There are captions explain what is taking place. The Earthing cord is for reduction of any static that could cause sparking(dangerous around fuel). In a lot of the more modern airports, fuel comes from a fuel farm via underground piping all around the aircraft parking stands. At the older airports, a fuel bowser/pump is utilised. In this video, the truck has a pump as well. Two refuelling receptacles are available under each wing on the B747. Not uncommon to use only one side- the system crossfeeds to other wing automatically during refuelling and ensures fuel tanks are balanced as per required fuel load. Hope you like it-
    Later!😀✈️✈️✈️✈️

    Used to be a refueler. Glad to say I don’t miss the smell of raw JetA1. Burnt JetA1 now that’s a different story!.

    Love these raw unedited videos, interesting job, I wanted to be a pilot but should have also tried to get a job on the ramp doing something like that, instead of stuck indoors all day. Would love to see some basic maintenance that is done. Keep the videos coming!

    Absolutely love your videos Capt and love all of the very detailed information. I just did a tribute to one of our Quality Inspectors from Boeing who played a huge part in the building of -400 and -8’s on my channel. So inspired.

    Would it be difficult getting a ground ops job if I already passed the ground operations course at aviation institute of maintenance? Have a lot of general mechanical knowledge from working in diesel shops and that sort of thing. Currently maintain multiple diesel trucks for work.

    Hello captain,
    How can you explain a wrong checklist process and how it might affect the all fight operations.
    Is it possible to correct a wrong checklist while the plan is already airborne?
    Thanks!

    Do you have to turn off all fuel pumps during refueling in the flightdeck?

    • @pilot_obet7815
      @pilot_obet7815  2 роки тому

      Yes they are generally always all off. In some transfer situations or defuel, pumps may sometimes be turned on

    Hi Captain, do airplanes have internal pumps for refueling or are external ones always required?

    • @pilot_obet7815
      @pilot_obet7815  2 роки тому +1

      Some aircraft do have pumps but more often they rely on external pumps. That is because fitting own pumps would increase the aircraft weight, reducing payload etc

    So is it true a 747 fuel capacity is 63,500 gallons and burns a galleon a second, as that is the equivalent of 8 tankers of fuel

    • @pilot_obet7815
      @pilot_obet7815  6 місяців тому +1

      CLOSE TO IT YES. THE B747-400 Has a total fuel capacity of 203,000 kgs which is about 66000 Gallons. The B747-8 capacity is about 75000 Gallons.

    • @fusion82

      No way these planes are holding over 600,000 pounds of fuel. That's equivalent to putting a hundred Ford f250 trucks worth of weight inside the wings. Not happening despite what you've been told to believe.

    • @DaveQZ85
      @DaveQZ85 3 місяці тому

      Closer to 430,000 lbs of fuel. It's got wing and a center body tanks for all that to go into. The MTW of a 747-8 is 975,000 lbs so that much fuel is not impossible.
      Humans are bad at gauging large numbers. The wings are plenty large to hold a good portion of that 430,000 lbs between them.

      For taxi there's a handle in the cockpit, called a nosewheel tiller, that's essentially a steering wheel. It's for low speed and allows very sharp turns. During takeoff and landing roll you use the rudder pedals, they also turn the nosewheel but only a few degrees to each side.
