I have used a similar but simpler method for years. If you use 6011 rod it works with the coating on. You don't have to weld the rods together just hold one rod in a gloved hand. Make sure you have a glove on. Set up the other rod as you normally would. Use that rod as a torch. Usually a pushing action works best. Hold the other rod like you would for gas or tig welding. it's the filler but also controls the heat. Using this technique you can quickly fill holes or weld the end of a pipe shut. It should be noted that welds bridging such large gaps are considered sub standard in many applications.
Thanks I'll have to try it.👍🏼 I usually use a gas welding wire with my mig welder to fill in gaps. I'll have to try it your way with the arc welding rod.

In my opinion this is only an interesting job for laymen in the field of Welding. If you use two 2.5mm rods (one coated and the other not, you will simply have a deposit with the possibility of greater porosity, as with a smaller amount of slag (deposit protective husk) there is a greater possibility of porosity due to the greater inlet. So if you put two 2.5 rods together to do this job, it's much simpler and more practical for you to use just one 4.0mm rod, where your welding machine will work with a lower amperage and you won't have all that immense work in having to keep peeling Electrodes. P.S. I have been working with Welding processes for 25 years

Thanks I'll have to try it.👍🏼
I usually use a gas welding wire with my mig welder to fill in gaps. I'll have to try it your way with the arc welding rod.
That's with sheet metal that I use the welding gas welding rod with the mig welder
Texas tig
I have done that too, but be careful! it is a real good way to get shocked!! lit myself up pretty good more than once...
@@lukewarmwater6412 happened to me too.... was doing a gate repair and didnt have access to heavy enough rods, so Texas tig it was. Had a little thin spot in my glove and got LIT UP.
Alternate video title “ how to produce low quality welds with porosity, slag inclusions, and incomplete penetration.”
My Inspection and Testing teacher damn near had a heart attack when I showed her this video. Her exact words were "that's why buildings collapse"
And she knows cause thats what her code book says
@@richarddavis1413 When she says "The Code" you can *hear* the capital letters.
Sangat kreatif, 👍
Salam kenal dari welder Indonesia👍
A legitimate welder would never do anything like this.
Agreed

In my opinion this is only an interesting job for laymen in the field of Welding.
If you use two 2.5mm rods (one coated and the other not, you will simply have a deposit with the possibility of greater porosity, as with a smaller amount of slag (deposit protective husk) there is a greater possibility of porosity due to the greater inlet. So if you put two 2.5 rods together to do this job, it's much simpler and more practical for you to use just one 4.0mm rod, where your welding machine will work with a lower amperage and you won't have all that immense work in having to keep peeling Electrodes.
P.S. I have been working with Welding processes for 25 years
That was my first thought to, why fuck around with all that when all you need is a bigger rod
im sure they dont have bigger rod. and the boss said work with what we have.
@@markcarolino9908
Even if they don't have bigger rods there is other processes which is far better work practices than what he did. You try to be a little bit professional, not yard shit
@The Old Husky quindi ho messo dislike !
Love it! Should find something to weld just to practise this :D
just use a bigger rod. signed- a guy with a degree in welding tech.
I would always just use an extra one like I was tig welding. I of coarse beat all of the Flux off from it 1st. Your way looks like it would be easier though. Cool beans dude. ✌
Been doing that little trick for 50 years, only we just knocked the Flux off the so called filler rod and fed it in by hand when it was called for. Same with tig, tack the ends and middle together for larder pipe, Say 3 and 4 inch but be careful of cold capping.
Can you explain what is the benefit of doing this? It seems like you could tig weld those holes shut by the time one is done cleaning the rods?
Łał super sekret, a ja całe życie myślałem że średnicę elektrody dobiera się do grubości materiału spawanego (dla mniej kumatych to sarkazm)

why waste 1 rod on a garbage weld when you can waste 2, I LOVE THIS :D
Já vou começar a testar
The end product was definitely not the same as the hole he plugged. Save yourself the 30 minutes of having to wrestle a grinder and use multiple passes to keep a relatively flat surface so you don't have to spend too much time cleaning it
Just weld in a small slice of bolt or round bar .

Nice watching from Bangladesh 🇧🇩😮
I had a big gap to fill on the bottom of a 24 inch pipe joint(lousy pipe fitter), I mean a big gap. Biggest rod I could get my hands on was 1/8” 7018. So I simply held the stinger in one hand and another rod in the other. Ran the weld kind of like a tig weld. Worked fine.
That's called "Texas TIG" and your weld would have failed an X-Ray or Ultrasound test.
@@BillyWitchDoctorDotCom damn, I haven’t heard about the Texas TiG in a long time!! 😂
