Heated Pride flag debate at Toronto-area Catholic school board prompts police to be called

- Tempers flared on Tuesday night at a meeting of the York Catholic District School Board in the Greater Toronto Area, as members had a heated debate whether to raise the Pride flag at schools during the month of June.
Security had to intervene when people at the meeting became disruptive, with some people being removed from the premises. Police were eventually called as disturbances and demonstrations continued both inside the meeting and in the hallways. No arrests were made, however.
It's not the first time police have been involved at one of the school board meetings. They were called in March as well during a debate about LGBTQ2+ safe spaces being discussed. Global's Ahmar Khan reports on what those demonstrating were saying and how LGBTQ2+ advocates are responding.

People just care more about their children's education and future then your list of rules for everyone. This isn't about "religion" Children need to prioritize their education over peoples personal lives. School is for learning. These flags represent personal lives. Students should be putting their focus on their studies when at school not on what gender they feel like or what gender they want to have relations with. Also not everyone wants to have your personal life in their face when they're at school. Maybe instead of parading your personal life we should celebrate privacy and respecting the privacy wishes of people around you. That's a really good lesson, it's called BEING PROFESSIONAL.
I've always wondered what that CALM class was about. And social studies class. Those current events lessons are something though.

Look at some of the legislation and laws that have been passed against that community in places like the USA and Britain and then ask if it sounds like people have the option or right to live quietly.

Well the flag is about sexuality used to be that wasn't overly encouraged at school regardless of gender or preferences. The Catholics advocated for celibacy no sex before marriage no abortions etc. So even if you were heterosexual they don't want teen pregnancies etc. either. There should be more focus on preventing sexual assault drug use and discouraging gangs in high school not obsessing about if they listened to Katy Perry kissed a girl and liked it etc. There are serious threats in society being completely overshadowed by frivolous things like some guy wants to wear a dress that was maybe still shocking in the 70s but I think the novelty has worn off. Some students are going to want drastic cosmetic surgery when they are older unfortunately going to take hormones and have an alternative lifestyle but while in class they should be focused on their learning and LGBTQ and CRT etc. are social studies topics and students "personal" lives are extracurricular activities.

I'm gay and I don't like the whole flags thing. Everyone nowadays seems to have a flag. The more flags we have the more segregated as human race we get and it's getting worse.
In my opinion the Canadian flag is more than enough to represent all of us and no other flag should be raised beside it other than the provincial/territorial and school flags which should be representing "everyone".
Raising a specific flag everywhere is like putting the cross or allah name everwhere and everyone "HAS" to see it. Not everyone is christian nor muslim and not everyone wants that to be shoved down their throats.
Protecting and making people feel safe starts from home where we teach the kids not to bully someone or look at them as they are less human or doesn't have the right to exist because they're different.
You can practice your belief as much as you want and in any way or shape no one is stopping you. But no matter who you are or what you believe in. If your opinion about someone is based on what they do in their "bedrooms" and not on what value and contribution they can add to the society and if your belief and opinion lead to persecuting and harming them then you need to rethink your belief or find a new one.

I'm an American, I'm bi, I'm from a blue state (NY) and i went to see my niece's graduation ceremony yesterday and, mind you, she's only 10 years old, and behind her there were so many pride flags that it made me sick to my stomach. That's disgusting! The lgbt community is for us ADULTS not for children! That's pedophilia and perversion. Being part of the LGBT community is something personal, I really don't need anyone to celebrate my sexuality because that's my business and if you wanna have gay a parade or whatever, fine, but keep sexually related content outside of child areas such as schools or playgrounds. I'm only 27 so I'm still very young and even though I was a kid not too long ago, I don't remember seeing this flag in my classrooms. We knew what pride month was but not to the point where it was getting taught in schools. There's better and more important things to be teaching children. The reality is this flag is more often a representation for an entire ideology, one that is very political. It no longer simply represents people.

We are open to other races, cultures, beliefs, ethnicities, and people from all walks of life. We accept others for who they are here in Canada, and have long been the worlds melting pot of tolerance and acceptance.
The LGBTQ should have the right to feel as safe and accepted here as anybody else does in Canada. As Canadian citizens, they should be free to express their pride, and pride belongs in their hearts.
You cannot confine Pride to the bedroom and pretend people don't exist otherwise, and if you disagree I fear it is you who does not share our values as a Canadian.
