- Big Shrimp, Catching Super Jumbo And Colossal Shrimp. We heard they were catching enormous Shrimp in Florida's Big Bend area. After driving over 3 hours we launched our skiff and headed out in the Gulf to see if we could locate those Big Shrimp. We got lucky, after doing some prospecting with the cast net we caught our first Colossal Shrimp. After making quite a few throws with my cast net we ended up with a good amount of Shrimp.

You guys are such an Beration to me and my husband we are in our mid-to-late 50s and are so looking forward to getting our boat in the spring and doing what you guys are doing!
Thank you, Get that boat, you guys will have a lot of fun and you can keep having fun until you're past our age. Also have some great meals. Thanks a lot for Watching
Yes I enjoyed the video. And your welcome. Now about those shrimps 🍤. Thise were some huge ones. Well thank you again for my time with you guys.
They were the largest we ever caught with a cast net. We also caught some smaller ones at Daytona that were going to make shrimp salad. Always nice to hear from you Curtis.
He is a true master with that cast net!! U-5 Shrimp also! What a good show!
Thanks and Thanks a lot for Watching our videos
WOW! Awesome video, never seen shrimp that big! I’m looking right down the barrel of 73. Yea, get up there and throw that net! Fun watching you while I sit back here watching. I loved the video! Just moved down to FL. Need to try the crabbing!
David you'll enjoy crabbing either from shore or boat and it's year-round in Florida. Good Luck
You are so good at throwing the net.
Thanks, those big shrimp gets the adrenaline going lol. Thanks for Watching our videos
To see this couple shrimping is a enjoy to watch, especially at Sam's age. I hope I can get his number. Keep going and have fun guys. 👍
Thanks, We really appreciate you Watching
Nice shrimp 🦐 hope y’all catch some more tomorrow
Thanks Alice, they were big shrimp, we don't know how we're going to cook them yet. Thanks again for Watching
Man you sure throw a pretty net. I could never throw it that well.
Thanks, Yes you can Randy, just take a day and practice. Thanks a lot for Watching
I've been wanting to do that myself..Great video
I missed your first comment Mike, you already watched it LOL
Bluegabe just went as well
We're going out today to see if we can find them again, We've been coming over here for 30 years but never saw shrimp that size. Thanks for Watching, enjoyed your snapper short, made me hungry.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors the shrimp are thick here this year as well
We're coming back to Daytona today Mike, we couldn't get on them only caught a few, hope they're still around.
love to seeing u guys
Thanks scott
Nice video! I'm also addicted to throwing a net but I've not done much shrimping except for a trip or 2 to Charleston. My brother has a place in Panacea so I'll have to give it shot next time I'm down there. Was it really only 4ft deep?...looked like you were pulling the net up from deeper than that. Either way, really enjoyed it!
I was surprised but it was only about 4ft, I like deeper water because the shrimp move up to the horn and don't get out. My son was out yesterday and he caught them in less than 3ft but they were smaller, I don't know what's going on, we always shrimp in deeper water that's why we tape the net. Thanks a lot for Watching Ken
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors If you don't mind saying, is there something specific you look for (ie birds, mud bottom, current, water color) or do you just start randomly throwing your net?
I first go to spots where I caught them before if there's not a lot of boats on them but usually you'll see boats throwing cast nets and just stay with the fleet. If they're catching them out of the channel you can anchor, like we do in the St Johns River.
Those are some nice shrimp. It does look like fun.
It's a lot of fun, Thanks again for Watching Rowdy
Which state you guys live in?
Florida
Àre those American Shrimp or a invasive fromTiawan.
American Shrimp, Thanks for Watching
Those looked like sausages with legs
They were the largest shrimp we've ever caught. Thanks for Watching our videos
👍👍👍
Thanks, Steven
Not many but foot eating
Steven, when they're that big you don't need a lot to have a good day. Thanks again for Watching
I need to watch what my smell correct is doin
Good morning Sam.
Did you buy your shrimping cast net or make it?. I've seen videos of making them using duck tape for the bottom perimeters.
I have an older 6ft net was thinking of converting to one but im not sure 6ft is big enough?
Do you think you really need an 8ft to do the job?
I put duck tape on some of mine on others Joyce sewed chair webbing around the lead line, I wouldn't get any smaller than 8ft, I have a bad back and can throw it for hours just let the net do some of the work. I wouldn't go over 9ft when you get to 10ft it makes a big difference, I leave that to the young guys lol. When I throw a 6ft I throw it a different way than the 8ft, to me the 8ft is easier to open. You'll see guys out there throwing 12ft and 14ft (the largest legally) Not Me.
Sam you guys make great videos I know you sometimes feel like a young man when you're casting that shrimp net LOL just kidding it's a lot of work. Please be careful when you're on the bow of that boat throwing that big net I love your videos and I don't want to see anything happen to you or Miss Joyce God bless you all from South Carolina we will be watching
Thanks, you're right Tim when I'm shrimping I don't feel old, I try to be careful. Always great hearing from you
I would have drove 3 1/2/ hours for them suckers.... just thinking what you guys needed to do with washing your skiff afterwards..errrr.. can't wait for the cooking videos.. be well.
It does make a mess of the skiff but it was worth it, we went out the next day and caught more. Always nice to hear from you
Super good job, really nice shrimp, guessing thats halifax area
We caught them in the Gulf near Suwannee Fl. Thanks for Watching our videos
You two are a joy to watch. Joyce always has to have the biggest catch of the day. I'm surprised she didn't want to cook it.
You're right Michael she wants to eat everything we catch lol. We really appreciate you watching our videos
You threw pancakes for dinner and got colossal shrimp for breakfast!
Your right, they were really nice shrimp. Thanks a lot for Watching we really appreciate it
I love you guys . What a team. Check out The Gopi Family on You Tube shrimping off the seawall in Ocala. ❤️
Thanks, we'll check it out
Wow I'd like to make a drag there if you're getting that many with a cast net you could probably make 40k in a day with a decent size boat
I'd like to do it too, but you can't use a trawl for recreational shrimping in Florida I don't know about commercial that far inshore we were in about 3ft to 5ft of water and less than 1/4 miles offshore, but it would be fun. Thanks a lot for Watching
A couple of those shrimp make a full meal!! Great job and love the channel
You're right they were big shrimp. Thanks for Watching
Where in the big bend are you at? Looks like perry, or stienahatchy.
Those are some of the nicest shrimp I've seen.
Nice day and worth the trip.
They were scattered from Steinhatchee past Horseshoe Beach they were nice shrimp. We're working on a video right now making stuffed shrimp with crab meat using those shrimp. Did you get over to Daytona?
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors no my girlfriend was not feeling well so I took care of her. Maybe next time..
Got the boat service done so I'm thinking on going out Friday just not sure where I'm going yet. Would like to go out for some mahi but depends on the weather. If not I've been wanting to go learn tampa shipping channel by the skyway. There's some nice grouper and mangrove snapper to be caught there.
Thanks so much for getting back with me.
You guys are doing great on your channel. You've almost doubled your numbers in less then a couple of months.
Tight lines.....
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors you know Sam, you do such a good job throwing that net with a pancake almost every time you should do a video on how you set the net up for a throw. I definitely would be interested in how you do it. I'm about 50/50 on my throws.
I was thinking about it
Can you tell me where big bend is please
Florida's west coast around Cedar Key and Steinhatchee area.
Alot of work for 5 pounds of shrimps.
I'm sort of addicted to shrimping so it's not work lol. We went out a couple of days later and got about 20 lbs headed but they were the largest we ever caught. Thanks a lot for Watching
What was the final tally??lbs?thanks
That video was last year we caught about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket, I can't remember how many pounds we got with heads off. Thanks for Watching
Shrimp stuffed with crab meat. Those are the right size. Split them halfway down the middle and mold a crab cake around shrimp than dip in egg and breadcrumbs. Oh yeah.
We were planning on making stuffed shrimp, the next time we set our crab traps also we thought about butterflying them and making giant coconut shrimp. Always nice to hear from you
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Save the shrimp heads for the crab pots, thats the bait the commercial crabbers use up in Maryland.
Either that or use them to make stock for Shrimp Gumbo.
We set a trap with those big shrimp heads 5 crabs in a short time. We froze the rest.
Those are really nice shrimp
Marie, they were the largest we ever caught. Thanks for Watching
Found your channel a few days ago while I crabbing and immediately subbed. I want to try shrimping so badly. I really enjoy your videos🙂 by the way did you find out what type of shrimp you caught… maybe tiger?
I'm not sure but I think they're White Shrimp, we caught small ones in the same area and they were white shrimp some other viewers also thought they were tiger shrimp. If you're going Shrimping this is the time of year in Daytona and the St John's River. Thanks a lot for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Thank you for responding. I am in Charleston, SC and always catch really small ones in my crab basket but never anything big enough to keep. I'm gonna look into shrimping spots though.
Shrimping is also a lot of fun, we were out today and just got back, we caught our limit but a lot of small ones. Should be good shrimping your way. Good luck
How awsome to do it together at that age 🙏❤
We're very lucky. Thanks for Watching
Are they white shrimp
Yes, white shrimp
What time of year was this?
The end of June. Thanks for Watching our videos
@TheOldCoupleOutdoors ok great thanks, and you are welcome!
75 & tossing that net like a kid. I'm 61 & that would have hurt me. Bless you but try & not get so burned-out bud. Thanx for posting.
I try to swing the net and use the lead line to my advantage, sometimes I'll throw it for 3 hours straight but I love catching Shrimp. I once cancelled a shoulder surgery so I could go Shrimping ( not smart but I didn't want to miss shrimping season ). Thanks a lot for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Not just old school but hard corps also. I have the funny feeling our wives have a few things in common. lmao... Keep hurling bud. Just remember at this age we don't really "bounce" anymore.
You're right about that, I try to be careful, but sometimes I don't realize I'm 75 lol. Thanks again for Watching
Shrimp tempura❤
Janet, Thanks for Watching
1/4 lb shrimp lol
Maybe you never caught any but some of those shrimp were 1/4 lb with heads on, also we caught some 1/4 lb shrimp heads on at the railroad bridge in Titusville FL Thanks a lot for Watching
sweet!
We really appreciate you Watching
That's great what part of the big bend were yall at
A little south of Horseshoe Beach. Thanks for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors ok thanks love the videos
I have seen your crabbing videos when you go to Biloxi. I know you are always looking for new spots to try. I just watched a recent video of a family crabbing with nets off a very large wooden pier at River Park, Pascagoula Ms. just off hwy 90 about twenty miles east of Biloxi. They had two large coolers loaded with crabs , almost two hundred. Saw two crabs that were almost nine inchs point to point.
Seemed like a nice quiet area, with a Seafood restaurant and shrimp boats nearby. Maybe worth a look.see.
We're definitely going to check it out. We just got back from Biloxi we did pretty good with the Crabs, we only try to catch what we can eat for dinner and lunch, we have no way to keep them until we get home but that's ok It's a lot of fun and we have fresh crabs when we want them. Thanks for the tip
Wow those shrimp were huge, l didn't know they grew that big over there. lf l lived in northern Australia, not the south east, l could fish for shrimp ( prawns ), the fresh buggers would be much nicer then store bought. You guys are so cool to watch, a lot of fun, keep enjoying it and take care..tight lines 🎣🐟🇦🇺
Your right Stuart they are a lot better than store bought and up here a lot of the bought shrimp have preservatives in them. Thanks again for the nice comments
Wow, I bet they were tasty. I hope you guys camped out and stocked up on them beauties. Thanks for sharing and giving me a big smile. Those would be amazing stuffed with crabcake mix and broiled. Nothing like the outdoors, harvesting fresh seafood and sharing good times w your best friends and loved ones. Good times. Alohas from Hawaii.
They were tasty Charlie like lobster, we plan on making stuff shrimp like you suggested, do you have shrimp in Hawaii? Thanks a lot for Watching
Love to watch yall !! We r 60 yrs old an love doing same things when we get a chance to go south. Raised to boys we r proud of watching them grow . Hope to maybe retire somewhere on the north coast one day. . Love our Tennessee mountains an streams an also love Florida. Much Respect God bless !!
There's nothing like enjoying the outdoors when you retire. I have a good friend who lives in Tennessee, a very nice place to live. We really appreciate you watching our videos Thanks
Perfect pancakes every cast!! Biggest shrimp I have ever seen. Great job Sam.
They were big shrimp that day
That’s crazy huge shrimp guys! Looks like it would only take two or three to make a shrimp cocktail. Looks like it was a lot of work to get them though. God bless you folks
Leslie, It was a lot of fun catching such large shrimp. Thanks again for Watching
I got to hand it to you @ 75 and throwing that Net. I`m subbed to a couple other`s that has to spin a circle on the Bow before they let there Net fly and they are a lot younger and I`m sure that there Net is probably a little bigger. Enjoyed it.
Thanks, I just love Shrimping Chuck Glad you keep Watching our Videos, Thanks again
Great video, loved to see it, we cast on the White Shrimp in Daytona area, had a really nice run this year. What area did you find those monster's in, if I could ask.
We also go shrimping at Daytona, we caught those jumbos on the west coast in the Big Bend area. Thanks again for Watching
Those shrimp 🍤 are huge curious on how you cooked them always a pleasure watching you both stay safe and Aloha 🌺
We had some grilled last night. Always great to hear from Hawaii
Great video! I wonder if the large size of the crabs and shrimp we are getting this year is related to the pandemic of the year before last where we could not go out. The crabs I am getting this year are huge!
I don't think so, the boat ramps here in Florida were busier than they ever were also the commercial fisherman we're out during the Pandemic, every day was like a weekend. I think it's a cycle, I've seen it before with fish and crabs. Thanks again for Watching Bill
Great shrimping and sweet video editing. Who said us oldies can't get the job done.
Thank you and Thanks a lot for Watching we really appreciate it
Wow big shrimp. Thanks for letting us watch. 👍🏻❤️
They were the largest we ever caught. Thanks again for Watching, Diane
That looks so awesome. when I look at that I think of forest Gump and thing of all the kinds of shrimp I can eat
Sometimes we do too, Thanks a lot for Watching Patrick
Thank you for sharing a great day with all of youtube. Great day shrimping indeed. They look like giant Asian tiger shrimp.
John, they're just jumbo white shrimp. When they get that large they have the texture and taste of lobster. Thanks again for Watching
We love you guys. Cute couple. I hope we end up like you two lovebirds.
Thanks, and thanks a lot for Watching
My god I haven’t seen shrimp that size in years have fun eating them y’all
Neither have I, lots of fun catching them. They taste like lobster. Thanks a lot for Watching James
I wish i can keep fishing like you guys i really enjoy you show
Thanks a lot for Watching, Jorge
Really enjoyed the video!!!
Thanks a lot for Watching
Enjoyed watching
Thank you Deloris
I'm glad I'm still awake, so i guess I'm the first viewer in this video have fun and keep safe😊those are tiger shrimp good for tempura and sinigang,
They taste something like lobster, a lot of fun to catch. Thanks again for Watching, Debbie
I think you were the first viewer
Great video another old couple here we live in Jupiter. Just got back yesterday from Daytona did good on meadium shrimp but so many jellies made it tough about 2 gallons a toss made it a lot of work. Was in steinhatchee scalloping 2 weeks ago were you guys close to that should I take my shrimp net next year?
We were also shrimping at Daytona last week and lots of jellyfish but when the tide turned, no more jellyfish and the shrimp were larger but the storms came and it was hard to stand on the front deck so we went in, about 1/2 bucket. Take your cast net the next time you go to Steinhatchee and crab traps if you have them (lots of crabs there) the shrimp are near Horseshoe Beach almost to the shore line drift first and if you feel Shrimp have your anchor ready and drop it. Good luck with your shrimping Jeff
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors thanks did not want to ask exactly where i know everyone got there spots. Realy appreciate it keep up the videos me and wife did a couple videos are accountant said i needed a business for a year or two since i retired. Reefs to rocks
