      This rhythmic cadence is quite common for pilots to have, it’s a good way of communicating information, the human brain likes patterns. Aerobatic pilots use this type of speech pattern, to coordinate the timing of manoeuvres and keep formation.

      Wouldn't surprise me if airline pilots are taught to intonate like that. A "falling intonation" is supposed to inspire confidence and indicate authority.

    I love this thing! Its closer to the XCub, those two are extremely similar but I love it, already 7 hours in it! Well worth 15€. But I mostly fly these types so it make sense for me. I was just happy to see an aircraft like this from Asobo because could be fairly sure the thing would be pretty complete on release and not having to wait 3 weeks for a fix because it released broken.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Happy to hear you are enjoying it Murdoch! It is rather similar to some of the default Cubs, but I think it’s also fair to say that it does have a bit of its own “character”. I too have been enjoying my time in it, despite my reservations about it’s apparent commonality with the Savage Cub etc.
      Happy flying and all the best! : )

    IMO the Husky is a near perfect aircraft for msfs 2020. A taildragger which operates off water, snow and most hard surfaces. Incredible STOL capabilities for bush, hillside and farm strips and is configured for both VFR and IFR. Having previously considered other types, I’m now building a functioning cockpit for the Husky based around the A-1B which I hope Asobo release in the future. Happy landings 🥳👍

      I actually tend to agree with you Andy haha, I think the Husky fits into MSFS perfectly. My point in the video was really just that I would like to see Asobo expanding the types of flying we can do in the sim (military trainers, classic aircraft, regional turboprops etc). The Husky is great fun though and the MSFS world is there to be explored!
      Good luck with the cockpit building, should be fun! I would love to try something similar myself one day. . .

    I own a Husky with this same panel and I have to say (from watching your video) they really got some things right. The over speed was spot on. Mine hits 2710 on takeoff which is over the max of 2700.
    The engine instruments are somewhat accurate. They simplified things a little bit I can see why.
    I usually takeoff and land with full flaps. The takeoffs just bring a smile to my face. Break ground and slowly bring the flaps up to accelerate to VX of 69 mph.
    I just wish they had it in my color scheme, N152CW!

      Hello Kent,
      Thank you very much for the info - always brilliant to get some feedback from those that have flown the aircraft in the real world. It's great to hear that Asobo did a nice job on the Husky and I'll bet it's a wonderful aircraft to own and fly!
      On a side note: Lovely to see you here over on the channel! There are a couple of your vids that really inspired me when I was looking to get into aviation; the Boston - Paris trip is still a video that I hold dear and having seen your comment here the other day, I went back and watched one of your MD-80 vids again - learnt a few things I never knew about the aircraft. So thanks for all your hard work over the years!

    ive just bought this last night, and it does feel different from the XCub, the quality is much better , but yeah i did miss how similar it was to the original Cub from the outside. As you say, you also get a few types, water floats, and big tyres, and i also think, although i haven't counted them, 10 liveries, and only £12. Not to mention you can open a door in a Asobo aircraft.. Thats a novelty :-) I like it.

      Yep, I agree with all of your points and I do think for the price, it offers quite a bit. I just would have loved to see something that was a complete departure from what we already have (eg a Chipmunk, Texan, Wilga etc). As I say, I probably wouldn’t have bought it if it weren’t for this review, but I am happy with it / enjoying it. Of all the cubs in the sim, it might now be my favourite (its between this one and the Savage Cub for me).
      The quality is certainly there though and the door does indeed open haha! The main thing is you’re enjoying it! Happy flying : )

    "To see Asobo themselves bring yet another high-wing, tail-wheel, single-engine aircraft into the sim... it's a little bit disappointing. There are so many other aircraft I would love to see in Microsoft Flight Simulator, even done to a default standard, and I'm not really sure that the Husky offers an awful lot over what we already have available to us."
    AGREED! This was my very first thought when I learned of the release. "Another one?! Seriously?" What I WOULD love to see is something CLASSIC in the sim, like the Junkers JU52, the old Spirit of St. Louis, a Lockheed Electra, a Beechcraft 18, a DC-3... anything! Just not another "high-wing, tail-wheel, single-engine (propeller), GA aircraft".

      Yep, totally on the same page as you; I would love to see some classic machinery in the sim (a la FS2004). I’m told though (from a 2nd hand source) that Asobo actually have a JU52 in the works, so that should be more up your street by the sounds of it!

      I think that’s fair comment James. I do think it’s the best all-rounder and probably the most fun of the bunch. If one is a Cub aficionado, it’s well worth it; but for a lot of people I don’t think it offers a tonne extra to justify another purchase. I’m sure most who pick it up will be happy with it though : )

    The XCub variant we have in the sim for example while still a STOL aircraft is more oriented to long distance flying with some off airport landings sprinkled in. The Husky, this specific one is even more STOL oriented, similar power, a bit lower speed.
    I found a really fun field to play on with these in Alaska, 45AA, 600 ft strip in the middle of no where north of Anchorage, its just a small island in a lake with some houses and a strip. Just enough for a small GA to take off and land. The husky could have had better breaks.
    I think the XCub has 186 hp vs this ones 200. Husky has a constant speed prop, so adds a little bit of complexity, has a tiny bit more fuel too.
    Weight wise they are almost identical, 50 pounds difference. Husky is actually lighter but that hardly matters since its such a small difference.
    Like I said, Xcub we have is the one intended more for long range and good cruise speed. I think its variety enough to make it a nice addition but I do understand for people that are not nerding out on these types as much as I do its just another cub clone. And I know most of the numbers I mention mean little to nothing in the sim.
    People often go to stalls to see if a plane behaves as expected and that make sense. I'm not 100% sure how this stalls IRL, I have a rough idea. But it sure stalls as you see in the video as well and it spins... I learned that while fooling around in the mountains last night, almost crashed! xD
    And those flying 130 kts in 747's in group flights, please go back to Minecraft ;P

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому

      Yes, I think for any “Cub aficionados”, this one is a good pick up. It’s the best all-rounder of the Cubs in the sim and arguably the most fun as well.
      I started doing stall tests in reviews, as initially most aircraft had little to no stall characteristics modelled in MSFS. I figure it’s a good way to see if the flight model has a little more “going on”; it must be said though, that this does seem to be improving generally in the sim. Like you, I don’t really know how the real-world aircraft behaves at the stall, but the behaviour of the Husky seems plausible (which is all I’m really looking for from a £12 aircraft) and I actually like how the aircraft handles at low speed overall (as you relate in your story, it’s easy to get caught out!).
      Thanks very much for suggesting the strip (45AA), sounds fun! I’ll have to check it out for myself.
      Cheers Murdoch, all the best! : )

      I actually completely agree that the Husky is well worth the asking price, I very much enjoy the aircraft myself. I perhaps didn’t articulate myself very well; my point was really that there are so many types of aircraft that we are missing in the sim that I would love to see (military trainers, classic aircraft, regional turboprops etc) - I (personally) would have liked to have seen Asobo expand the types of flying we can do in the sim, before working on another bush plane. Again though, I do enjoy the Husky and MSFS is obviously the perfect outlet for bush aircraft : )

    It's good that Asobo have developed this. Now it's time for them to go back and update some of the default planes in various packs. The Pipistrel Virus Ultra (from the Dev Filename) was clearly going to be an electric plane. That would be very nice. Also the Virus comes in a tailwheel version which also could be modelled. The Zlin Shock Ultra has a huge space in the middle of the dash where the I.Pad from the Husky could be mounted. Some of the planes still have non working buttons. It's time these planes were finished. ✈️

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому

      Exactly Max, that was a point that strangely only occurred to me after the video. I like the Husky and the quality is good, but what about all the default aircraft that still need work and have seen little if any since release? The default aircraft are all pretty beautiful graphically, so why not continue to improve the systems, flight modelling etc (Asobo must have learned a few tricks over the last year). I do hope this is done at some point.
      Cheers, all the best! : )

    The arcade like flying is typical Asobo and not surprising, but the lack of a usable VSI in an aircraft like this is inexcusable. I this could be my favorite of the Cub types so far released, but their Garmin is just awful.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 роки тому

      Hi Sandhill,
      Yes, the avionics setup in the aircraft certainly wouldn’t have been my first choice. I do enjoy the Husky and as you say, it’s probably the best of the bunch, as far as Cubs go in the sim, but steam gauges would have been preferable in my opinion (and suited the aircraft better as well). The lack of VSI is odd (although you can bring up a VS trend, by selecting 3D Vision on the main display).
      I’ve been enjoying the Ju 52 though; so hopefully Asobo will continue to learn and improve along the way. At least their products are reasonably priced for what they are. , .

I agree there are more than enough Cubs and Cub-like planes. The Zlin Shock Ultra is my fave. I think the Husky combines the best parts of the XCub and the Savage Cub.
    I always felt that the Savage Cub is basically an ultralight in the shape of a Cub. I really like the rawness and simplicity of it, and the paint schemes, but I've always felt it was really boring to fly because it is too light and it has such a low wing load.
    I love the performance of the XCub, but let's be honest, it's not really a bush plane, especially with that spring gear. Also I really dislike the cockpit and the high-tech luxury of it. It's just not raw enough.
    This Aviat Husky combines the best of both of these Cubs: A decent Cub-like flight model with a rugged, bare bones look and cockpit. Honestly I'd be totally happy if they removed the XCub and Savage Cub all together and just added this to the base game. The Aviat Husky is truly the all-round Cub and I'm glad to have it!

      I’d agree with almost all of that James. The Husky really is the best of both worlds and does offer up an enjoyable experience. I’ve always enjoyed the Savage Cub myself, I prefer having the Steam gauges as well. I don’t fly the X Cub much, but it can be nice for cruising the back country.
      The Husky does have its own character though and I can certainly see myself flying it some more. The main thing of course is that you are enjoying it. Happy flying! : )

    This can't even be compared to the default savage cub which is totally borked and nothing like the real aircraft. The default savage cub is way overpowered compared to IRL and over performs in game compared to its real life counterpart

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому

      Well ironically, doesn’t that bring the Savage Cub closer in terms of behaviour to the Husky then? I agree that the Husky is the better aircraft in most respects, but I still think it’s fair to say that the aircraft have quite a bit in common. I’m enjoying the Husky, there are just quite a few other aircraft types that I would have loved to see in the sim (eg military trainers, vintage aircraft, regional turboprops etc); I don’t think Asobos next offering needed to be the Husky. . .

    I was on again off again about this, it is so very much like a cub to look at, but I 'splashed out' (LOL) and oh my gosh it's so much fun, I love having the basic cockpit with a gps map, you HAVE to fly by looking out of the window and trimming, and if you can see a clear piece of ground from a few hundred feet up you can probably land on it. I can't for the life of me trim it to fly straight - level yes, but not straight, it just keeps gently turning left. Is there rudder trim hiding somewhere that I haven't found yet ?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 роки тому

      Haha, I was slightly disappointed that Asobo chose to go with the Husky initially, given that we already have many similar aircraft in the sim (that could still use some work themselves); but there’s no denying it’s a fun little aircraft and I’ve very much been enjoying it myself also. The “best of the bunch” when it comes to Cub-esque aircraft in the sim and very much the type of aircraft perfectly suited to MSFS.
      As far as straight and level goes; I don’t recall it having been a big issue for me. I’m not sure whether there’s a physical rudder trim control on the aircraft, but I’m sure I would have used my hardware to trim if anything (if rudder trim is indeed available - it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to fly the Husky, so I can’t remember now I’m afraid).
      Glad you’re enjoying it, even if it is a little uncooperative haha. Happy flying! : )

    Another great review from our favorite Flight Sim reviewer. Although I would love to own a real Husky (steam gauge version of course) I will have to take a pass on the Sim version. It’s just too similar to what we have already. As for turning on avionics before engine start, modern avionics are now protected against electrical surges and transits so it’s not a problem, in fact it’s required in order to see digital engine parameters. Give me an old fashion steam gauge cockpit any day! Not a huge fan of glass. Thanks for the information, as always, I never buy anything before checking your reviews first

      Yes, I’ve actually been watching some vids on the real-world Husky (as now youtube has started suggesting them to me haha), looks like it would be great fun to own! Totally understandable that you don’t feel the need to pick it up in the sim though. I like it, but it doesn’t offer a tonne that you can’t already get with one default Cub or another (though it probably is the best of the bunch overall).
      Yeah, I realised to myself whilst re-watching the vid that it was a bit of a “duh” moment - of course you need the avionics on for the engine parameters. Makes me realise that quite a bit has changed in GA since I was last properly involved with it haha. Like you, I’d still take a steam gauge any day though! ; )

    I just love taildraggers. They’re more challenging to fly, but I prefer flying them over other classes of aircraft. I do agree, asobo could be focusing on more important things, such as all the issues listed in the forums. But, I’m not a developer, I’m just a consumer so my views are going to be a bit selfish as I don’t understand the entire development process.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому

      I love taildraggers too and likewise I’m a bit ignorant as too exactly how the development process works. Asobo do / should have a lot on their plate at the moment without making addons haha, but often the “addon team” does not have the same skill set as the “coding team” etc; so I don’t think it’s a drain on resources per se. I like the Husky, but I just feel there are about 1001 other aircraft it would have been nice to sim in the sim, that don’t have a similar default counterpart.

    Got this the other day. I actually really like it. I like that it feels a bit heavy on the flight controls, like it has some substance to it. I like the modern cockpit layout too. It's very well put together, I think. A bit like the C170, that's also a great plane in my opinion.

      I like it too. I think maybe I came across as being overly negative towards the Husky, I’m not. I just wondered whether Asobo couldn’t have given us something different, or fixed up what we already have. That being said, the Husky is definitely the best of the bunch in terms of the Cubs - very enjoyable to fly. I really like the C170 as well. I think for me, the C170 has the edge over the Husky, due to its age and aesthetics (I also rather enjoy how it flies).

    I bought the Husky a couple of days ago,then at a little over £5.00 I bought the Caudron (somebody had to).That was probably a mistake as the view from the cockpit is very restricted.The aircraft flies ok but I like VFR and this view is bad enough to force you into IFR and landing on the runway means choosing a reference point somewhere in the sky.

      I nearrrly bought the Caudron myself. Looks interesting and a bit of a bargain at the moment. Ultimately the only reason I didn’t buy it is because I think it’s a bit of an ugly duckling in terms of design (it’s so close to being beautiful) and I thought it’d be weird sitting almost at the back of the aircraft haha. Sounds like a nice challenge to operate though. I’m still considering it, but I imagine it’d be one of those aircraft I’d fly once and then park up.
      Thanks for taking one for the team though haha, at least at £5, one can’t have tooo much buyers remorse I suppose! ; )

Would also be nice to see Asobo continue to work on the default aircraft, before trying to sell newer ones, since some of them could still use some work (that’s always a grey area though, as maybe they sub-contracted the Husky out etc).

    I found the Husky a bit odd. With winds at 5kts or higher it becomes very jittery and twitchy in the air with constant bumping or vibrations.
    Also there is no vertical speed indication on the 3D vision view (besides the magneta prediction tape).
    I also felt like the interior view caused some frame drops compared to other default airplanes.
    Lastly I wasn’t too fond of how super crisp the digital instruments are, like the horizon attitude indicator, while the analogue instruments like airspeed and altitude are rather blurry and not crisp at all.

      Interesting points Vograx.
      The wind I can’t really comment on / say I’ve noticed, but I have noticed similar behaviour in a couple of other aircraft recently, so I wonder if it’s not something to do with update 5?
      The V/S issue, you’re correct, though it didn’t bother me personally (if anything I would like less avionics in the aircraft).
      FPS-wise I found the aircraft to be broadly on a par with the default C152.
      The instruments are definitely a good point, that I forgot to bring up during the review. I was struggling to read the speed off the ASI for sure!

It might be worth checking that you have your sims flight model set to “Modern”, as opposed to “Legacy”, that can sometimes cause strange behaviours / handling characteristics from addon aircraft.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I really enjoy bush flying and I was going to hold off on this one because I’ve read it’s basically the same plane as the xcub. But from what I’m hearing from people it’s fun to fly. Does it feel any different than the cub. I do notice the wings and tail have a slightly different design hopefully for making the flight dynamics feel different than the xcub. Maybe slower turns and better stol capabilities? It looks beefier than the xcub. But I’ve ready their about the same weight.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому +1

      If you’re into that sort of flying, I don’t think you’ll regret it Shane. My point really was that it’s “more of the same”, but the Husky in its own right is a nice little aircraft. It is good fun to fly and does feel different from the other Cubs (slightly higher quality as well). STOL-wise, I was actually a little surprised; takeoff performance is pretty decent, but it doesn’t like flying all that slow, before it want to stall and drop a wing, so landing performance is so-so.
      Again, I’m sure you will enjoy it, I have been myself. It’s just a question of whether or not you feel like paying $15 for a broadly similar experience to that of some of the default / freeware aircraft.

    I had to hit the "like" button after one minute and fifty seconds. I do feel that every review of a product on the in-game market place should point out that the products are DRM-"protected", which means they are encrypted, ie. you cannot examine or modify the files making up the product, neither for educational purposes nor to improve or customize it.
    For me, this means I never purchase products which are exclusive to the in-game market place, and I purchase all non-exclusive products directly from the developers instead, if possible, or from their preferred store. This also helps to support 3rd party devs, as they get a bigger cut of my money.

      As a reviewer, I tend to purchase through whichever avenue the product first becomes available, but your reasoning is certainly sound. I haven’t come across too many aircraft in MSFS yet that are “grossly” off, but it’s always nice to have the option to tinker around with the flight model nonetheless. As you say, it’s also nice to support other retailers etc (Just Flight are my go-to where I can).

      I agree, it’s great to support developers; but personally I don’t choose to extend that support, as far as buying products that aren’t of interest to me (and even then, often I do for review purposes). As far as the Husky goes, personally at the time of purchase, I just didn’t see much that was appealing to me ($15 or otherwise). Ultimately though I’m glad I did pick it up, as I’m very much enjoying it! The quality is there and as you say, it has a decent amount of variation etc.
      All the best!

      You’re absolutely right Gary and I certainly don’t want to see that happen either. I’m sure though that Microsoft get a kickback from any addon sold for the sim (at least through the Marketplace) and I think / hope that the sim having such an unprecedented interest from newcomers, means it has a healthy and long life ahead of it.

      Thank you sir! Really glad you’re enjoying the content.
      Interesting question: I think the Husky *could* work; the biggest issue I would say is a lack of autopilot. I have actually done an around the word trip myself and as much as I like hand-flying, a basic autopilot makes the whole trip a lot more manageable. There are times where you might just want to rest up a bit whilst you fly etc (ultimately that’s for you to decide though of course). Fuel would probably be an issue as well. I’m not sure she’ll have the legs to cross certain parts of the planet. I did my trip in a T6 Texan, it had about a 5 hour endurance and there were a couple of stints (namely trying to cross the Pacific and the Atlantic) that I wash pushing it. You’d have to plan carefully and see what might work.
      Overall though, if you can make the fuel planning work and you’re happy hand-flying, I think the Husky could be a nice option. Obviously it will be a very slow trip, but I guess that’s kind of the point? She flies nicely, has enough avionics that you wont get lost, visibility is good and you can takeoff / land just about anywhere! The X Cub might be more practical perhaps, but the Husky does have a bit more soul.
      Good luck with it all! It’s quite an undertaking, but it can be a genuinely great experience, good fun and certainly gives you an appreciation of just how big our planet is!

      I do like the Husky, it has some character and the seats and indeed the tail are rather nice (I do like the dogs, as well as the aircraft haha).
      It wasn’t Catalina island, but only a few miles out to the north of it. Funnily enough, I had originally planned to record the video on Catalina island, but decided to change locations, as I flew into Catalina relatively recently on the channel (looking to head back there again soon though).

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations sad thing is I grew up in California, lived to close to Catalina and never visited. I'm noticing this husky needs a lot of runway to land compared to the other cubs.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 роки тому +1

      Ah, that’s a shame. From what I’ve seen in the sim, it looks nice!
      Yes, the Husky doesn’t seem to like being low speed as much as the other Cubs (bit strange for a STOL aircraft). I’ve found you need to approach a bit faster (nose attitude ends up being quite high otherwise also), which means you tend to eat up more runway to bring it to a stop. It’s not crazy, but not quite what I was expecting.

    Asobo's Aviat Husky has a problem: When I use the left wheel brake, the plane brakes the right wheel and tries to turn right, and when I use the right brake, the plane brakes the left wheel and tries to turn to the left. Hope this is corrected soon.

      That's right, this happens to me only with the Asobo Aviat Husky. With no other aircraft I have problems even with tail draggers like Cub Crafter, Cessna 170B, Stearman, Extra 300, Pitts etc. A few minutes ago I flew the Husky again and I have the same problem with the brakes that are reversed, the rudder if it works in the correct direction. I am using the Thrustmaster rudder pedals. Thank you for responding and for your attention.

      It is correct, after the last up date the problem with the inverted brakes continues, and even braking with the arrow in the keyboard gives the same problem during the taxi at low speed. It is with the only plane that I have problems with, all the other planes work perfectly. You could try to use the brakes with the arrow keys to see what happens and then please tell me.

      I take your point Alan, but please bear in mind that this comment was made quite some time ago. Back then, the sim had a *very* limited number of addons, to the point where the default aircraft were almost the only options (many of which were STOL / taildraggers). I like a STOL aircraft as much as the next man, but I also think / thought that it’s important for a healthy audience retention in the sim, that the platform offers a decent variety of aircraft.
