JetBoil coffee stove is the best! Makes the mornings with scout camps survivable! Also take it with us snowmobiling. Nothing like hot chocolate on a 14 deg. day in the middle of North Central PA. Love the flying, thanks for sharing.

JUSN, Hello, yes IDAHO, has so many back country grass strips, as I recalled when QUEST produces their KODIAK, they did demonstrate it non many of those strips, I follow a ‘MISSIONARY BUSH PILOT , IN PNG Papua New Guinea , they have 3 of them, later this year he comes back home for HELICOPTER TRAINING, like IDAHO there are low & high altitude fields MANY DOWN HILL TOO,
Stay well & safe, regards to your family, 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

At my age, I have to keep my back-country flying confined to a flight sim on my computer. Your insights on the safety needs of this great activity go far beyond the short field take-off videos that dominate UA-cam, and your narration gives us a the feeling of actually being there. Thanks for covering aviation in such a responsible way.

@@mikeryan6277 Thank you! Two stints were put in an artery in my heart and since it was a congenial condition there were no guarantees that came with the procedure. I just got the go-ahead last week to travel again from my cardiologist and it feels like I’ve received a reprieve! Thank you for the thoughtful comment.

Look into the new PC based flight simulator from Microsoft! It’s not real flying, but it’s way better than nothing! There’s lots of cool little bush planes too! The scenery is way beyond what it was years ago, and the entire planet is generated from satellite imagery. It’s like flying in google earth!

You’re not kidding about ForeFlight! One of my favorite navigation features (especially with an iPad Pro) is being able to use a stylus (Apple Pencil) to hand draw a route directly on the sectional, and then see your aircraft in flight georeferenced directly on the route you drew. In my cub I use ForeFlight on my phone, which is still great and there are different stylus that work with that.

I visited the Warhawk Museum a few years ago. I was the only visitor there at the time and the guys gave me the royal tour! They had Bob Hoover's champion p-51 there and a Bell Mid engine cobra being restored, I don't remember if it was the P-39 or 63 but it was the first time I had heard of of let alone laid eyes on one.

I earned my "wings" in 1973 (retired in 2015), and living on an island that is only 290NM from one extremity to another, I never appreciated the 'Murican obsession with cruising speed until I had the opportunity to fly privately in a C172 from Joliet, Illinois to Wisconsin Rapids in December 1981 (the month "they" killed John Lennon). That was the occasion when I realized why you 'Muricans would all like to be supersonic, wherever you go. Your country is VAST! Even being supersonic is not going to solve your impatience problems! What you need to do is learn some patience. I know, it won't be easy, but moderation is the key.
Short-field is my home! Weaned on BN2 Islanders, H295 Helios and DHC-6 Twin Otters in a severely weather-challenged country (Iceland), I have never encountered truly unexpected conditions. High and hot conditions were just about the only conditions I was not prepared for. Addis Abeba (Ethiopia) around 9000' was a surprise (the first and only time I realized that balancing the tires on an ultra-slow aircraft like the DHC-6 could be an issue). Operating a DHC-6 from 6000' airfields in Angola at about 25°C conditions for a couple of years was also new but, again, no surprise. We learn new stuff until we retire...
In my retirement, I fly into the Hornstrandir National Reserve in Iceland in a H295 Helio Super Courier and an Avid Flyer, all purely for pleasure. My clan hails from that area and we have a summer house in Fljótavík, Iceland. If you ever dreamed of a select location that no one could access, this is it!
Probably the weirdest bridge in the world might be at "Fljótavík International" at 66°46N and 22°55'07W. It is 5 meters long and 20 meters wide! It is a bucket-list destination for private and ultraligjt pilots in Iceland, weather permitting.

Regarding recharging all of your electronics, and to avoid taxing the airplanes battery each night, you might consider investing in a small lightweight Solar generator, and panel. Check out: Goal Zero, or Jackery, they both offer plug and play solutions. Gotten to the point where I don’t leave home without one of these now.

Hi Juan! Great running into you on the mountain trail to the iron tub at Johnson Creek! I also ordered Hanselman's Fly Idaho! guides in preparation for my flying adventure in the backcountry. I found them extremely helpful in the planning process. Was very fortunate to meet Galen in person at the Short Wing Piper Convention in Ogden,UT back in 2012. And just like you I flew to each strip in Microsoft Flight Simulator making various notes on my flight plan cutsheet as I went. This virtual rehearsal paid big dividends during the actual flights. I am in the process of posting the videos to all of the strips we visited during our five days in Idaho. I can't take credit for most of them as I just sat in the back of the Citabria and let my son Carson do most of the flying. It was quite the father and son adventure that created memories to last a lifetime! All the best to you and your family. Tim & Carson

Love the new Husky. I noticed you have a hard time seeing over the nose. Being a short guy I had the same problem in my RV6A until I started using TWO cushions. Now my head is about 2” from hitting the canopy and boy have my landings improved. A cushion can also double as a pillow when camping. Wish I had the rough terrain capability you do, but at least I can go fast and do loops. 😁😁

AWESOME, Juan! Looks like a blast camping in these remote places. I always keep your gear ideas in the back of my mind whenever I camp. I just did almost 3 weeks in Bowling Green, FL, just northeast of Wauchula as I finished up my paramotor training early last month. One thing I learned on this trip, DO NOT over inflate your air mattress on a hot day! Ask me how I know this, lol. When I got back to camp after a long day of training in 94° temps (Probably 110° or better in the tent), my air mattress looked like bread dough that was left to rise too long! It's RUINED! BIG bulge in the center. Was a nice Coleman one, queen sized. Super comfy ... that is until it got deformed. I felt like I was sleeping on a 25° downhill slope! Made the rest of the nights miserable. Gotta do what ya gotta do to get in the air, ya know? :D

I’ve been watching your channel since the Oroville incident (your info blew away the so called professional media). I’m a recent VEOP/VOR pilot that lives in the Sacramento Valley area. Made my last airline trip April 1 last year, honestly I haven’t missed the NB 320 grind at all or the commuting! Looks like you have an awesome Gig economy thing going that you love, Bravo 👏. I have to share an anecdote with you. I was commuting one day out of Sacramento and somebody saw me in uniform and said hey do you know the guy that has the blancolirio channel. I said no I don’t personally know him but yes I know of him as I watch his channel. That was 2 years or so ago that’s when I knew you were getting big and yes you can monetize this thing! You should get some sponsorship money from the Husky folks they clearly are benefiting from your info. Too bad you can’t see if they’ve had a bump in sales since you purchased this I bet they have. Juan I enjoy your content keep up the good work and as they always said in the USAF FLY SAFE!

I could see the need to have those boots so I would never leave them behind. I would also suggest a solar charge panel to help charge your electronics when the engine is off. It would suck to deplete the ship's battery to the point it wouldn't crank. A decent-sized charge brick would be useful as well in charging your electronics as you could recharge it while flying. Then you don't risk depleting the main battery. I enjoy your adventures as I am unable to do them myself these days.

I had to laugh when you mentioned eating at Rome, Oregon. The Rome Station is the only restaurant that I've ever eaten at where they supply you with fly swatters when you walk in the door! The food IS GOOD though......................but the bathrooms are/were small.(haven't been there in about 5 years)
A quick story about the bathrooms......An old man and his wife(she was clearly the power behind the throne) were eating there and the Misses had to go to the bathroom. Being that the bathrooms are tiny, she ended up getting the TP wrapped up in her undergarments and she was oblivious to this fact. When she walked back in the restaurant, her husband tried to tell her that she was trailing about 10 feet of TP but she wasn't having any of it!!!!(:>) When she finally saw what he was trying to tell her, they couldn't get out of there fast enough!!!!(;>)
One other thing, BMW's were the bike of choice traveling South Eastern Oregon.

Juan, such a beautiful bird! That sounds so cool to be flying there from home and camping. I like the dirt bike adventure bike analogy. In terms of the comparison of landing on short air strips I totally agree that you don't want to be messing with those short ones, but for the big-picture, cruising along in air it doesn't matter so much about the ground surface.

What is going on at 3:07. Is that some sort of heating system that is going into the engine compartment.

Great report from your trip. I would have called it a debrief instead of unpacking, but maybe unpacking is better for the general public.

But let me ask you a question: are you on vacations or some kind of temporary leave or you don't fly any more for the company you use to work for?
