How The Gut Breaks Down Causing Migraines And Headaches

  • In this video, I describe 4 mechanisms by which gut sensitivities, dysfunction, infections, and disorders can contribute to migraines and headaches, even without any digestive symptoms.
I cover how the intestines function in coordination with our microbiome and how disease progression begins through the deregulation of our microbiome, breakdown in our immune defense, destruction of our intestinal villi and then leaky gut and immune sensitization.
I also go into the 4 mechanisms by which the the gut can aggravate the brain which are:
    - Destruction of our protective enzymes leading to high histamine and tyramine levels
    - Leaky gut allowing food sensitivities to build up
    - Inflammatory cytokines being released systemically
    - Vagus nerve stimulation communicating neuroinflammation

THANK YOU! I'm 56 and after a lifetime of gut issues have started losing weight, the wrong way, and having severe migraines and food sensitivity. I've never made the connection between the gut health and the migraines! Not to mention the PCOS and endometriosis that used to plague me. I'm taking this to a gastroenterologist. Thank you.

Hello Margie, I have very similar problems like you. I have known that the gut is connected to the brain since a long time and that’s causing my headaches, and I even told my gastroenterologist about it, but neither my family doctor nor the gastro seems to understand 😫
Did you have any success? Thank you 😍

@@shantiruparell304 yes, I have had some success. Not 100%, but enough to have made a difference to my life. I am convinced of the connection between gut and migraines. I have seen a gastroenterologist who put me on an antibiotic Rifaximin, that gave me two clear months without a single migraine and stopped the worst of the current gut issues. Now I'm starting to get migraines again, but I'm working through food sensitivities. It's worth finding a gastroenterologist who understands SIBO, and a good dietitian too. Taking a herbal treatment called Iberogast has helped too. I have my appetite back, and have put a bit of weight back. Now concentrating on getting the balance right.

It feels like looking onto clear sky when I don't eat bread and I have good fiber diet. When I eat bread (especially wheat) and not enough fiber, I feel constipated and I get this foggy brain...low annoying background headache... no amount of coffee can clear it up. It feels like looking onto warm cloudy sky with low visibility. I can't even add 3+6+23 in my head or even take the square root of 69 - which is" 'ate some". I feel misearble. Your science is spot on.

im 43 ive been getting headaches on and off for 20 years but lately they are all migraines that debilitate me to the fullest. They usually will result in my gut shutting off and vomiting whatever I last ate. Doesnt matter if its a apple or a cookie. I follow gluten free which has helped but I get these damn things still. I take nurtec otd ( free samples from Neurologist cause insurance doesnt cover) which does help but takes like 3 hours to kick in while I suffer and usually vomit. Im always in pain of some kind. Thank you so much for this video. I have been watching my diet for years now, cutting way back on gluten, nuts and dairy. But that is not enough to control the migraine pain. It's good to know that there really is a link between your gut, and your brain health. And I'm hoping that if I can heal my gut with pre and probiotics, maybe I can cut down on the pain of my migraines a little more.

If you get desperate check out a book called The Water of Life by Armstrong. Take a month or two off work if you have to and give the protocol a try. That's my plan B if I can't find a solution to my headaches, brain fog, and anxiety/fear (that I'm pretty sure is a gut problem).

Hello Sir, I have watched your video and found it interesting. I have been suffering from mysterious origin headache for quite some time. I wake up with hard to identify kind of headache which is kind of travelling. I first feel it somewhere in the middle of my head, then at the back of my head then a little like behind my eyeballs, I take effervescent painkillers in for headache and I find out soon after I need to go to the toilet. The moment I empty my bowels within few minutes headache is gone. Just for the record I have been diagnosed with inflammed tonsils and been taking various antibiotics for a long time. I have also been diagnosed with gut dysbiosis which is no brainer considering the antibiotics. My plan is to get tonsillectomy first and see how it improves. My headaches have already improved since I started regular sinus rinses, but still I am getting those headaches.

MSG, HYDROLYZED, Autolyzed, tyramines, histamines, cured, fermented, canned, TOFU, wines, nutritional yeast, salad dressing, environmental charges, and hormones! Should I try an enzyme inhibitor?

What about a specific mention about histamine and how it's a nuerotransmitter that can cause many nerve problems and even vestibular migraines. I am very interested in getting a clear message out to people that a leaky gut can cause Heloise migraines/ vestibular migraines. I have so many hundreds of intense flares (vestibular) if not thousands of migraines day episodes now getting better on l-glutamine. I have had AWIS as a kid (since I can rememeber) and and many neck cracking/popping.
