I think the only one who can perhaps dethrone him in the next 2 years is Djokovic. If he can find away to beat him at AO, then yeah, Alcaraz will be number one for a very long time, that is until his little brother turns pro and become a prodigy just like Alcaraz.

Ben didn't play too badly, but Carlos sucked all the air out the building. His speed is so impressive and he can chase down almost anything. He will win many Grand Slam titles and if he stays healthy he can catch the greats of the game. Brilliant shot maker.
I've been trying to think how you beat Alcaraz. I thought maybe go to the backhand because his forehand is so good (power and drop-shot with disguise) but the problem with that is that his backhand is pretty damn good too and he's fast enough to run around it half the time. So to be honest, I've got nothing.

Alcaraz for the money, fame, and career success. Shelton only for the money and fame, he's the male equivalent of Radacanu except she actually won a slam, even if it was a one off.
Raducanu is prettier though (and generally speaking, female beauty is more appreciated), so she will have more publicity contracts and will earn WAY more money than Ben.
I would not think so. Watched this just now and saw Ben just being reactive the whole match. Even his serve is affected, lots of double fault from the pressure of Alcaraz. Plus every rally Ben does his loopy forehand that doesn't have any kill threat at all
Now Ben knows the mountain he's going to have to climb for his entire career. I think this is a good loss, he proved he could play with the best player of his generation and not just get wiped off the court.
@@RogerPham Nah I was there live, both players took control with initiative each but alcaraz just made less errors. Also ben was killing him with some of those forehands early on. Problem is that alcaraz played a few crucial points better than ben and took the win.
Carlitos is just incredible.. don't see any of his young rivals challenging him for big titles.. only Rafa at RG and Djoko while he plays at his level.. Absolutely monstrous are his shoulder rotation and the feel he's got on the ball 🤯
Alcaraz with two GS is much more dangerous than before. He has the experience and the results already and I predict that his game will become more creative and difficult to stop than ever before.
Shelton is basically where Alcaraz was 1.5 to 2 years ago. He's raw and if he continues to improve, he could be a top 10 player in a couple years' time.
Shelton is talented, but Charlie was much better 1.5, 2 years ago. He won Miami exactly 1.5 half year ago for example, coming off an Indian Wells semifinal run, which was after he won Rio. He also already won an ATP title back in 2021. Not trying to be nit-picking, sorry, I like Shelton too.

I can honestly say Carlos is my favorite player to watch since prime Federer. Everything he does just looks so effortless, he rarely makes mistakes, and the game just comes so easy to him.

Shelton gets a lot of hate for his personality and everyone thinks Alcaraz is the total package but I’m coming here after both of them lost in the 23 us open and I have to say I was more impressed with Shelton performance and Interview because he has a lot more ground to catch up to Alcaraz. Carlos has a great personality and self awareness after his loss to Medvedev that he has to handle situations when he’s not playing top form and still able to take a set off Medvedev. Shelton was not able to take a set of Djokovic but looked at the whole experience as a net positive. Alcaraz is like a combination of Nadal Federer and Djokovic wheat as Shelton is some kind of taller and nearly as athletic version of Nadal with a serve bot caliber serve but can back it up if returned. I think Shelton and Alcaraz will be the real rivalry tennis wants to see develop after Nadal joins Federer on the senior tour.

He also doesn't like to be rushed for time on fast hard courts, he has less opportunity to dictate. Ben is a free canon. Hurkacz doesn't play as aggressive as Ben, but Sinner does.

Missed easy points and we didn't see that spectacular Carlos. But I guess that's what champions do. When they play bad, they find a way to win. However if he plays against Hurkacz like this and Hurkacz is in a good day, he might lose that one. If you watched the game, the only break point Carlos converted was a double fault from Ben and in the 2nd set tie break, it was another double fault by Ben that basically sealed the tie break. In a good day, Hurkacz won't make those mistakes. That's why I say Carlos must raise his level, cause Hurkacz is the main threat in Carlo's path before an eventual semi vs Sinner.

Shelton has so much raw basics to improve a lot with. He plays with a lot of enjoyment which is positive too. Just would like to see him play some sharper shots, a little harder and wider sooner... Alcaraz showed some brilliant timing eg delaying shots etc. That's using skill to convert points efficiently. And very crowd-pleasing to watch.
It was the worst I've seen Carlos play since that second round loss in Rome. His shot selection is usually impeccable, but he had a half dozen head scratchers yesterday. A grinder match is probably good for him entering the hard court season, though, and his path is wide open after Rune, Ruud, Auger-Aliassime, and Tsitsipas bombed out so early.
After his cockiness attitude against Djokovic at the us open would be interesting which kind of attitude shows against Alcaraz next time, given they are the same age and that both are very heavy hitters.
Shelton is so cocky without anything to back that up. The disrespect he showed Djokovic is surprising. I'm not a big fan of Djokovic but I couldn't wait for him to beat the smirk of of Shelton's face.

Carlos' first hard court match since Miami, and a few weeks since Wimby, you can tell he was relatively rusty and slow out of the blocks with a lack of rhythm in this match but he played with efficiency to push through to the next round. vamosssss
Shelton will be one of those high ceiling players, but inconsistency personified, kind of like Shapo, unless something miraculous happens in the coming years.
Like Monfils, Tiafoe and Kyrgios, he is in that other tennis league (UTS or Ultimate Tennis Showdown that is inspired from Basket Ball). It plays twice a year, once in Los Angeles and once in Frankfurt. For them it is more about showmanship and razzle dazzle, they don't care as much about the result. I feel this is what those players enjoy. They are gamblers.

Not all his wins will be easy. He wont win every match, for sure, there are other good players, but I hope Carlos sticks around in the #1 or #2 spot for most of his career.
@@freehope29 If it was just one match, I would give the edge to Federer because he already had all the experience and was on top of his strengths. But Nadal and Djokovic found a way to beat him regularly in the following decade, so I think Alcaraz would find it as well, if not immediately then certainly after a few meetings. Federer was great but even in his prime he always had weaknesses. There are not too many in Alcaraz's game despite his young age so I think in 5-6 years he will be even better player than any of them ever was. Of course if he avoids injuries, which is a big IF.

Tennis lesson is a bit of an exaggeration. Both have done a lot of UE. Carlitos has made a few less.

Alcaraz is like a combination of Nadal Federer and Djokovic wheat as Shelton is some kind of taller and nearly as athletic version of Nadal with a serve bot caliber serve but can back it up if returned. I think Shelton and Alcaraz will be the real rivalry tennis wants to see develop after Nadal joins Federer on the senior tour.

@@AllMenMustServe He didn't adapt to a leftie so well. He served on his forehand instead of backhand. It wasn't the best match up for Carlos. He also doesn't like to be rushed for time on fast hard courts, he has less opportunity to dictate. Ben is a free canon. Hurkacz doesn't play as aggressive as Ben, but Sinner does.
@@pureffm yeah, but he made a lot of bad unforced errors, like some of them he wasn't even trying to attack the ball, he was just way off today. Missed easy points and we didn't see that spectacular Carlos.
But I guess that's what champions do. When they play bad, they find a way to win.
However if he plays against Hurkacz like this and Hurkacz is in a good day, he might lose that one.
If you watched the game, the only break point Carlos converted was a double fault from Ben and in the 2nd set tie break, it was another double fault by Ben that basically sealed the tie break. In a good day, Hurkacz won't make those mistakes. That's why I say Carlos must raise his level, cause Hurkacz is the main threat in Carlo's path before an eventual semi vs Sinner.

@@707ladytee are you American ? If you are and follow sports you can tell by the way some of the athletes dresses, by their mannerism and even the way they play if they are American , with Sheldon (first time seeing him playing) I was able to tell right away that he is American.

Shelton has so much raw basics to improve a lot with. He plays with a lot of enjoyment which is positive too. Just would like to see him play some sharper shots, a little harder and wider sooner...
Alcaraz showed some brilliant timing eg delaying shots etc. That's using skill to convert points efficiently. And very crowd-pleasing to watch.

It was the worst I've seen Carlos play since that second round loss in Rome. His shot selection is usually impeccable, but he had a half dozen head scratchers yesterday. A grinder match is probably good for him entering the hard court season, though, and his path is wide open after Rune, Ruud, Auger-Aliassime, and Tsitsipas bombed out so early.

Carlos' first hard court match since Miami, and a few weeks since Wimby, you can tell he was relatively rusty and slow out of the blocks with a lack of rhythm in this match but he played with efficiency to push through to the next round. vamosssss

Ben Shelton needs to improve some fundamentals like return of serve, basics of tactics and so on.
I can wait to se USA be on top of the world again ... but Ben has to change his way.. he has so much potential.

Shelton will be one of those high ceiling players, but inconsistency personified, kind of like Shapo, unless something miraculous happens in the coming years.
Like Monfils, Tiafoe and Kyrgios, he is in that other tennis league (UTS or Ultimate Tennis Showdown that is inspired from Basket Ball). It plays twice a year, once in Los Angeles and once in Frankfurt. For them it is more about showmanship and razzle dazzle, they don't care as much about the result. I feel this is what those players enjoy. They are gamblers.

@@freehope29 If it was just one match, I would give the edge to Federer because he already had all the experience and was on top of his strengths. But Nadal and Djokovic found a way to beat him regularly in the following decade, so I think Alcaraz would find it as well, if not immediately then certainly after a few meetings. Federer was great but even in his prime he always had weaknesses. There are not too many in Alcaraz's game despite his young age so I think in 5-6 years he will be even better player than any of them ever was. Of course if he avoids injuries, which is a big IF.
