Hello! Would love to see a cardiology and/ or a ct surgeon video!
I don’t know why, but hearing from a physician that “it’s all worth it” made me feel relieved. I guess I just needed to hear that. I also really liked hearing that sometimes it’s a “thankless job” because it makes you realize that becoming a physician isn’t supposed to be about your glory, it’s supposed to be about serving others and promoting God’s glory too.

Now I'm having an existential crisis when all I wanted to do was try to stay positive 😩

First year of med school?
i started med school late as well (29) and as a woman with no children it feels like the odds are stacked against me but keep trying, you are where you are supposed to be, Keep it pushing

A doctor telling me that it’s going to be worth it in the end and that I have what it takes after going through so much stress and anxiety this year, gives me so much of happiness, hope and strength to do it all again next year until I get to the other side.

Dr. Fisher gave the best advice. Leaving anxiety is one of the best decisions we can make as students
I have a professor who is also a Doctor and she said the same thing as Dr. Wilde said about how important Understanding is. 🤍 To all Future Doctors, We All Got This! We Will Get Through This Together! 🤍

look. im going to be honest for a second. The youtube algorithm brought this video to me. But im here now and feel compelled to comment after hearing all positive advice of all my fellow physicians in the video. firstly, if you're in high school or college, i want to emphasize that its a difficult road and if you're doing this for altruistic purposes only, there are many fields out there in which you can help people and potentially make a bigger difference in their lives. At least roads, without the stress of a multitude of exams or inexplicable medicine debt. Many people go into medicine as a hobby and go into higher paying fields, which, in my opinion, more than likely make the least impact in patients lives (personal opinion, but you can crucify me). So they can say "its totally worth it" or "its better on this side". I chose nephrology for two reasons 1) bc i thoroughly enjoy the science and equations in the field and 2)The demographic of patients in the field (whom look a lot like me) are woefully neglected. Some physicians practice as medicine as a hobby and if thats gonna be your mentality its not worth it. Now..with that being said, if you're having doubts that you'd be able to do it or be "smart enough" to get through it. Please dispel that thought immediately. Any human whom really wants to do medicine and finds it interesting and is willing to put in the work will be able to do it. You cannot do it yourself. you need to find groups of like-minded people to study with and push each other academically. If you doubt you can do it because you're not ready to sacrifice 10 years of your life or because of the student debt or hours involved, thats perfectly fine as well. It doesn't make you a failure one iota. Medicine, again my opinion, is over-glorified and individuals in it are given the benefit of the doubt before they prove their worth. The field doesn't make the individual, the individual makes the field.
What Dr. fisher said is exactly what I hear from my mom 😇

I'm graduating undergrad at AU and I've had the privelage of working in research for MCG and working in the AU-ED and I have to say that I'm proud of the institution I come from because of all the wonderful people here, like the doctors featured in this video. There are a wealth of great people at Augusta that are so happy to help you... if you are someone considering going to MCG, go for it. These people are real and care about you. AU is working hard to improve mental health on campus and they've made a huge difference. MCG is awesome

3:06 - Memorization helps you far less if you're unable to connect the dots that are infront of you (patient anamnesis, physical exam and lab results). Remembering "I GET SMASHED" for pancreatitis is far less important than being able to understand why the diagnosis causes the symptoms that it does, and how it's connected with the anamnesis/physical exam/lab/radio. Pneumonics are good for learning, but i don't use any of them actively in practice. If you want to go into internal medicine, know that you'll spend the majority of your time behind a desktop reading and writing notes. I loved the invastigative nature of internal medicine during my rotations there, but it was too much paperwork. In that sense, anesthesiology is the shit - and if you want to be even better, do cardiology for some time before going into critical care medicine.
Also - the neurosurgeon answered according to the neurosurgeon stereotype lol. Unintentional god complex

I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I just wanted to say that the first person Andy interviewed really helped me get the closure to just accept the reality and the fact that if I want to be a Med Student I have to work hard for it. I am currently a senior high school student, a STEM student to be exact, and I don't seem to act and work just like how my other classmates do but I hope that I'll get there someday. I am quite disappointed at myself because I don't think that I am the type of person Med Students are like. I don't have great time management skills, but I am learning and trying to get there at some point. Another problem is that I just seem to avoid memorization. I am quite a lazy person if I do say so myself. But I am willing to change that. I am just happy that I got the closure today that if I want to be a Med Student, I must be willing to change to be competent, a hard working person who needs to learn how to memorize more effectively, and a person who knows what they are doing and why they are doing it! I want to have those attributes. I just hope that one day, when I look back into this comment I would be reminded of how this video helped me. I am really glad that God lead me this way!
