A group of women was filmed angrily driving children away from a rented space so they could have more room to practise square dancing in southwestern China’s Chongqing. The kids were in the middle of a skating lesson.

This is common these days in China. Lots of middle-aged aunties are often selfish, and act as Karen towards younger folks. They have no respect for those who are younger. These people are often uneducated, and have no manners if they are traveling (often in a tour group).

This is why you have to earn my respect. Respect already being given to elders can make most of them arrogant and ruthless like these aunties. Due to the fact that they are older than everyone else does not justify for their disruption against the young children doing their skating lessons, who have been given the space legally.

Nobody cares about your “respect”
Respect should always be earned. Giving respect to an elder by default is like bestowing valor and honor to a king who has never fought in battle. That said, I have no issue giving a minimal amount of extra respect to the elderly across the board for logistical reasons, just like I would give up my seat on public transit for the disabled, pregnant, etc. I would happily give it up for most elderly.
THESE KARENS SHOULD BE BANNED not giving them any space at all.

My respect for elders is decreasing day by day. It makes me feel that respect is earned now, and not given.
Pre-covid I experienced the same thing. There was this large tiled open space where many of us children used to play football, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. A group of aunties usually take up the space in the morning to dance, fine, we let them be.
But then they just had to complain to the nearest town council, saying we were taking up their space when they were the ones who took our space mid-game. So the town council decided to ban all ball games in that area. Istg these people.

@@seb0nti literally this. they'll go and complain that the "new generation" doesn't get out, when they do stuff like this, underfund public services and adventure parks, etc. almost all of the adventure playground in the UK have been closed down + austerity cuts to public services that kids used like public libraries (in the Uk, just for example).
I’m days away from turning 60 and I just don’t understand this bullying behavior towards anyone, especially the youth. This is ridiculous. I would have not given these women their own space. They should not be allowed back. I’m definitely not against public square dancing. It gives people things to do. However they should be embarrassed by the way they acted here, and apparently been acting in the past. Downright shameful. I wonder how they’d react if they found out someone was treating their kids/grandkids this way? I’m sure they would not be pleased. They we’re definitely setting bad examples. I feel like the mall just condoned their actions by letting them stay.🤦🏽

@@ashleyburbank3129 no the skating coach rented the space, and have given space to the Karen’s 3 times in the past. Now because they wanted room again they threw a tantrum because the skating coach didn’t budge giving away his rented space.

I remember some years ago, I was in Shanghai and I saw a huge group of women just dancing in the open area by a mall. I was probably around 5 than but every time I just walked through the area, the aunties would literally freak out and yell at me to go away. Still don’t get why till this day…

Thanks SCMP for these videos explaining in English these viral videos from the Chinese platforms. I had seen it and did not understand what was going on.
Now I understand they were renting the space for their activities and the roller guys were late to give way to the next group, the dancers.
This does not excuse the behaviour of the dancers, who should direct their discontentment to the roller organizers only, not the kids.

No, the mall already divided the space since the roller skate guys paid for their space. These dancing aunties still want the space of the roller guys disregarding the barrier. Worse, this is the third or fourth time this dancing aunties took the paid space.

I'm not surprised at this. These dance groups play loud music and they continue even though they know it disturbs the residents. If anyone has been to China, you will often come across aggression such as this. There are some groups that allow old men to brush up against them, and they are given some cash.
This is just nice to have dancing in the evening in Chinese neighbourhoods.

Full context news for those confused:
The skating coach is the one who has the authorization because they rented the space there for a year from the mall, then the aunties just suddenly barged in recently demanding more space. The mall authorities then mediated the two parties and decided to ask for the skating coach to relent a bit of space from their rented space (which I think is unfair since they rented it but they have to give it up to these rude women). They finally settled with the skating club to move their space a bit and they give them enclosed ropes to identify that it's their rightful space.
The mall had better refund part of the rental fee for the coach. Why is he paying so that those aunties can use for free and even push him around?
@@minhchaubuingoc8384 The end of the report stated that now the skating club is resuming their activities normally and everything is ok, I assume they have just given up rather than have to deal with these aunties. No mention of refund though.
