This was a very enjoyable q&a. It is interesting that you mentioned the UA-cam channel Dialko who plays Minecraft beta. I recently found his channel and I really enjoy it. Further, the thought crossed my mind that his general approach remined me of your own. Good stuff man.
This is such a lovely comfy chat you have here. You both have great personality. Especially loved the "broke up? learn to love grass and touch yourself" advice :D
Given how much this channel is centered around emergent narrative, I'm surprised the game Kenshi is not mentioned at all which leads me to believe you haven't heard of it yet. Cause in my mind there is no way you wouldn't like it.
Really enjoyed the chat guys. I recently moved from DFW. Y’all talking about community and friendship really hitting my heart strings of thinking of the friends and community we made there.
Solid Q/A, thx for answering my question! Navigation, and making it slightly obtuse to give the player more to do, is something that really interests me and I’m glad you touched on it in depth. Personally, I like giving the player a map that doesn’t point to where they are and making them figure it out through town/village names, and use road signs and shit. Also, if you’ve got any more ideas, especially about the exploration aspect then shoot away, I’m currently working on an entry for an open world game competition so this is all pretty useful
That was a great question! Really got my gears turning a bit. I'm not sure if I have much to add right now, but you'll be the first to know if that changes! I'm really just into the whole idea of the player only knowing as much the character when it comes to map, direction, etc. Also, not sure if it's possible, but it would be cool if checking the map happened in real time. I'm just a sucker for that sort of thing happening in the game space when it's feasible.
Thank you so much for answering my questions! I honestly didn’t expect you to answer them all so I threw out a few hoping one would bite. Also the comment on Adventure Time really hit home; I always watch “Jake the Brick” when I feel lost.
Really appreciated Luke's contribution here! Also thanks for answering my question, although my name is pronounced more like "Yawn", not Jan like in January haha. You silly Americans.
The part you talk about game dev gives me a lot of hope. I'm working on a game that sacrifices a lot of conveniences in favour of immersion, everytime I tried to talk about it in a game forum it was mostly received in a negative way (having to use a compass and have a phyisical map in world is one of those topics). But hearing that there are people who would enjoy this kind of stuff is good. I'm mostly making a game inspired in all the disappointing aspects I found in rpgs and I still need years for it to be finished, but its nice to know that all my work might find a public that enjoys it.
Best of luck with the game! I know that suggestions about needing a physical map and compass in the game world likely aren't popular, but I just feel like it would be so engaging to have the player utilize their sense of direction. Not to mention that darkness and nightfall become much more intimidating when you don't have the luxury of a glow in the dark map and compass! You could always try to give people the option to access those things in the menu, but if you stick to your guns, you'll at least have one person playing your game! (It's me--I'm the person)
Your pfp was kind of the reason I actually watched your content in the first place. Samson is great, he was also one of my MVPs, kaga games are something else man ( even with all the jank). Greetings from Brazil!
The jank is real, but Kaga saga is so worth it. Samson is my favorite kind of FE character. Great on player phase and enemy phase, huge speed to carry those heavy axes, and access to great mobility. Give this man a move+3 potion and watch him clear out entire sections of the map without any assistance. Thanks for your question btw!
I saw Anamanaguchi live and it was amazing - they performed the entire Scott Pilgrim game OST in order, and their lights/stage setup was a playthrough of the game. Then near the end, they popped off with Hopes and Dreams from the Undertale OST. I never thought I'd mosh to that song but the venue when insane.
A fellow Anamanaguchi fan! They have such an amazing energy in concert. Sounds like your experience was as awesome and memorable as you could hope for!
I didn't even care about daggerfall at all, I subscribed to you when your first daggerfall video got recommended to me purely bc of your pfp in the hope that at some point you'd talk about tearring saga! Fe is also my favorite game series and tearring also completely rocked my world when I first played it (although I prefer Berwick over it usually) so I was happy to find a fellow kaga saga fan! Especially in the fe community, people who take the plunge to actually play tearring, berwick, and vestaria saga are very few and far between. (Btw I have since gained a great appreciation for daggerfall after watching enough of your vids. Like a form of exposure therapy, lul)
It's crazy that the pfp is being recognized by people at all lol. I've been thinking of replaying TRS since I missed so much on my first playthrough, then I'd like to play Berwick Saga (blind
@micah_raygun_ not only that but you've managed to attract at least two other people with kaga saga pfps. I saw another commentor with a character from Berwick as their pfp and mine is oifey from fe4. Also I'd say that overall Berwick is probably easier than tearring is, but it's just so different from every other fire emblem and fire emblem-esque game that getting used to it and understanding it takes some time. Honestly the more ingrained fe is to your brain the harder berwick will be for you, I've seen people who play fe constantly on youtube play berwick for the first time and it sometimes looked like how I played fe when I was 11 lul.
Man I love fishmans so much, and especially 'Long season', that's my go to album when I don't know what to listen to. Have you heard of Slint - Spiderland by any chance? They're to post-rock/post-punk what fishmans are to modern indie
Jim Croce and Fishmans are great. Didn't expect you to like Jim. I used to listen to Operator, Top Hat Bar & Grill, and Rapid Roy a lot. Fishman's Magic Love has been my go to when starting a playlist of that type of music. Oh, and the pronunciation of my name is /'byrˠxt,noθ/ or bierk noth if if you don't want IPA. Forgot to include the pronunciation in the questions.
I can't believe there are so many Fishmans fans out there! Magic Love is definitely a great starting point--that whole album is fantastic. The last song in particular is an all time favorite. I've actually only recently discovered Jim Croce, within the last year or two, but he's exactly up my alley. Finger-picked guitar with some vocals is basically my favorite genre lol. I mostly mess with chords when I play guitar, but guys like Jim are an inspiration to say the least.
Thanks for your video and your answers (I just started watching and I haven't heard the answer to my question yet but thank you in advance!); if you like rpgs and MtG you could try out Shandalar, especially if you like old-school Magic. It's a big hassle to set up but when I tried it last year I fell deep down the rabbit hole and spent three whole days playing it. EDIT: Yeah I've heard about the Fishmans! I should give them another listen :) EDIT EDIT: Streetlight Manifesto mentioned! My favourite song of them is actually the less ska-ish, Moment of Silence (actually one of my favourite songs ever) :)
Wow Shandalar looks really cool! And I thought MTGO looked old school Really neat that you know both of those bands! I never get to talk about Fishmans because they're a bit obscure--my wife actually put me onto them years ago and I got a bit obsessed. Moment of Silence is great too, their music always makes me miss having access to a trombone lol

Although your more immediate family obligations might forbid it, you ought to check out Mexico -- specifically Mexico City (if you've any sort of lust for Europe, as the way it's organized feels European in many ways). Unknown -- and specifically external -- spaces are sure venues for adventuring, especially given the absolutely unique historical and material circumstances that are responsible for their development and current form. Nevertheless (and echoing the sentiment in your answer), arbitrary bars are "uniqueness" only serve to delegitimize forms of adventure that take place under more "austere" conditions (i.e., less resources, less influencer-financing, i.e., a modern manifestation of the class struggle). This all to say don't necessarily discount trodding less "historically celebrated" (my qualifier already feels unjust and imperialistic) grounds because it all still counts.
