My interpretation of the ending is that when you went through something so traumatizing, part of you would be left in that memory. No matter what you do, no matter what you want, you are permanently changed by those events. It doesn't mean that there's no hope or giving up. It just means that you recognize the impact of the past and how it changed you.

After watching the music video again more closely with everything in mind, I think you’re absolutely right about the ending. I just hope that he is comfortable with that decision, if he could see the version of him on the other side screaming for help, would he try a little harder to break the door down and begin a healing process to accept his past to nurture his present self? I suppose only his future songs can answer these questions!
I love that after watching it once I had one idea, now I’ve seen it a few times I think completely differently about it. I wonder how I’ll feel when I go back to it again 🤔 Tracks like this are absolutely TIMELESS in my opinion and I’m really glad I checked it out! It’s made me want to do the whole album 😭

I agree. I see the rain as a symbol of relief or cleansing that the understanding brings. So many people who have PTSD/complex PTSD often feel like there's something innately wrong and broken about them...but when the nervous system is understood, it makes room for some self-compassion. Not that the parts have to be completely healed to feel better about ourselves, but that some compassion for the pain can be felt.

@@TeddyGreyOS actually just a few days ago in the last day of Agust D "D-DAY" Tour concert.
In the end of the show, Suga walked through that Amygdala door while saying goodbye.
      Back info
His World Tour has a total of 28 concerts. And every end of his show he won't bother saying bye and just directly exits the stage.
We just think it's kinda cool.
But after his last concert we finally understand why.
His music is honestly a masterpiece and at the same time a therapy.
The reason why he can't open the door is because he's not healed yet from his scars and trauma.
So when he exited through that door at the end of the concert, it's basically like him saying he's healed now.
Lastly, if you don't know, the 7 members of BTS have the number 7 engraved in their flesh.
And it's only Suga who never revealed where his tattoo was hidden.
But at the end of the last concert, he finally revealed it. It's in his left shoulder.
It's the shoulder where he had a surgery because he dislocated his shoulder due to that incident shown in Amygdala video.

When he cuts himself...I think that's when Agust D was created too.. he said back then he had a lot of aggression and anger but not so much an outlet he was willing to risk and expose yet. Daechitwa, Haegeum, and Amygdala is a trilogy... Amygdala ends the trilogy. Love your reaction. This song brought me to tears. Yup I admit it. 🙏💜🙏💜 Suga is my bias. Many of his songs saved me throughout the years. Many of BTS songs as well.

I feel like Amygdala is a bit better placed as the origin story of the trilogy... Except for the lyrics about how all these things he went through made him stronger and he is blooming like a lotus (which grow in muddy conditions but bloom spotlessly). I'm still processing my interpretations, especially of that ending scene, with the different placements in the trilogy. Is AgustD dead or is he still trapped? Is he always going to be there, even though he might be dormant at this point? Just some of the questions I'm pondering. I love how much he makes us think. I can't even begin to tell you how healing he is for me, personally

    • @dragonixheli5474

@@WonderingWildWanderingRose my interpretation would be that AugustD is not dead or trapped but rather all the scenarios in the MV are parts of the brains memory and August D stays at that part of the brain. He cannot get out because it is part of him and that can't be erased.
But August D is not in anger anymore, he is not hurting himself, he doesn't want to let August D get out but rather he calmed him down by "putting rain" in that memory (water can have a symbol of clearing)
For me it's like he accepted that part even though before he thought it is something that needs to go out.
That version is still allowed to be in his place as a memory, it just got more calmer in there.
Who knows what the real intentions were but Yoongi did say it is free to interprete and as of right now I look at the ending that way

After his final concert, when he sobbed in front of millions of people, he then walked through that door. Later in interviews he said that Agust D had most likely disappeared. The three videos in order are about the struggle to find oneself in the midst of mental difficulties, for example, in Daechwita he says he's a genius, at the same time he has to kill the mad king. These are his inner demons as they manifest in his mind. Amygdala is the therapy, the painful process of unpacking and feeling trapped and in despair. This is his real life. There are details elsewhere, for example, his mother's heart surgery was the month he was born. He danced and performed for 8 years with a torn shoulder, taking pills and getting shots before performances. Songs like Agust D and The Last will tell you more. Every single member of BTS is fantastically talented. The solos have been 2023, but put those amazing men together and you'll see the full story of why they are the greatest group in the world.

Months later I must tell you, if you didn't know, that Agust D crosses that door at the last concert of his tour, at the last moment. I feel that in the MV he doesn't cross it because he assumes that part of his story he can't overcome, and that is suffering from mental problems such as depression, OCD and so on. Those of us who suffer from them know that it is an almost lifelong struggle when they are clinical pathologies. Anyway, it was nice to see him finally walk through that door. Greetings from Argentina.

Sharing a bit of background on the motorcycle scene and its significance: Suga has spoken about gruelling hardships he faced from childhood, to his idol trainee days where he barely had any financial support, and had to do several odd jobs. Times were tough as Suga sought work in a recording studio in school. While underground rappers looked to work with him, he didn’t get paid for it. He composed songs and wrote lyrics. He started rapping and giving performances, but still earned nothing for it. He explained that the nature of work was such that despite working in a studio, he got no income and it was difficult to pay for food and transport.Suga had auditioned to become a producer, but Big Hit wanted him as an idol trainee. Realising that this was an opportunity he couldn’t lose, he decided to take up the chance. Trainee days were just as difficult, if not more, as he barely had any income. He took up a job as a delivery boy, and once got into an accident where he injured his shoulder. Suga lied to his band members that he had fallen down the stairs, when in fact, he had an accident. “I was riding the bike, when I got hit at the intersection. The next day, I couldn’t move my shoulder. I didn’t tell the agency. I thought that they’d let me go if I told them.”

I really love how beautiful and artistic this MV is, but what I love the most is how meaningful it is! Amygdala is such a beautiful song with a huge emotional weight... Yoongi had to explore and open wounds of all these traumas and painful moments in order to liberate himself from it and rebirth in life as he mentioned in the song D_DAY too. We know this process was not easy it all, it was actually really painful like he mentioned in his documentary. I'M CRYING 😭 It's already one of my favorites ever. Thank you Yoongi for sharing this album with us, an album full of really personal stories and songs that can give strength and help other people too. Hey Teddy, the story doesn't end there. This MV is the explanation of how AgustD was born, Yoongi explained in the Vlive that in order to understand the whole story, you have to watch Amygdala > Daechwita > Haegeum in order.
In Amygdala, the version of him in black clothes tries to save him at the end, but the door doesn't open and that's how AgustD is born. In Daechwita, we see him killing the Mad King - and since you have seen the first song in this trilogy - AgustD (remember A to the G to the U to the STD?) AgustD is a persona that was full of anger, and hatred as this whole thing started around the time when BTS was getting a lot of hate, and mistreatment and was being sabotaged. AgustD rose so he could say things he couldn't be vocal about as a member of BTS. In Daechwita, the mad kind represents the vengeful attitude he had + anger and thus when he kills the Mad King, he kills those negative feelings.
Again, in Haeguem, the story is repeated in a different setup. Here, the AgustD (detective) could represent the greed and other negative feelings he might have and the rebel version of him kills him in the end. Detective AgustD can also represent the corrupt system that BTS had to fight in order to rise. Notice how in Haeguem, the rebel version doesn't have a scar? It's because Yoongi said, he has finally moved on from that past trauma, hate, vengeful, negative emotions and is finally at peace.
Haeguem is a nice way to end this trilogy as in Korean, Haeguem means lifting a ban. In the end, he also explained 'The first arrow that hits you isn't your fault, but if you let yourself be hit repeatedly, without doing much, it is your fault' So Haeguem, in a way could also mean lifting the ban and freeing himself from all these negative thoughts.
Also, I've been following you since you reacted to KR$NA and I've seen all that happened here and on Twitter, the beef with army etc. All I wanna say is, each fandom has some idiots and ik the army is pretty possessive/protective of BTS so they kinda attack when people say something. But the way you were introduced to BTS was wrong because idk whyyyy anyone would suggest Joke as an introduction song. It kinda formed a negative image + the attack was completely uncalled for which led to you having an extremely bad experience. I'm sorry about that.
However, I appreciate you exploring the songs after that incident and, I also like the fact that you didn't let that incident taint your thought process whenever you react to BTS. That shows you're a real one, unafraid of putting out your raw opinions (love and respect you for that) So I truly hope you explore more songs and genuinely understand why they are so loved and respected.
And moreover, Stray kids look up to them a lot + Our dear leader Bangchan is BFF with a few members of BTS so as a fan of both groups, I would really love to see that initial memory replaced by some positive memory.
    Much love from India

It is music which saved Yoongi and it is also music which Yoongi lives for.
Suga had the hardest life (pre-debut) out of all the members. At 13, he started writing lyrics and learned MIDI by himself. His first love is the piano or music in general. (He made a song about his piano entitled "First Love") who he described as his only friend when he was a kid. His parents didn't support his passion for music. They were not financially stable and were being practical so they would even throw his lyrics to discourage him but Suga would sneakily continue to do it.
"As for me...[my parents] were very much against [me becoming a rapper] to make me reconsider [my choice], they hit [me] and fought, and things like this...so I made music [under those circumstances].
"I had some basic MIDI gear before entering the company, things I'd bought as lyricist after saving up enough money by walking around for 2 hrs everyday and skipping dinners every day."
In his hometown, he used to work as a studio engineer while composing and performing in front of 2- 50 people, ( he was part of the hip-hop group called D-town then where he was one of the youngest). He worked part time at the music studio and was underpaid, so he had to sell his songs but often got scammed people didn't pay him) . He said his parents never saw him perform back then, which is why he once broke down at a concern when he saw his parents there. He had only one supporter at that time, his older brother, to whom he would show his songs.
Suga had nothing except for his skills and confidence. He saw an audition poster (From Bighit company) of a rap competition on which he participated and won 2nd place. On semi-finals, participants were asked to perform to the same beat and write own lyrics but Suga modified the beat, not just wrote the lyrics which made him stood out. He was scouted later on. He was the only member who was already an established producer before becoming part of BTS. Suga went to Seoul to pursue music at 17. A rural boy who went to Seoul, South Korea's capital city, not many could understand his dialect. Imagine pursuing your dream where no one believes in you aside from your older brother. Where everyone told you that if you pursue music, you'll make your family broke.
When asked if his parents eventually gave him permission to make music and Suga replies "well...before giving me permission, I was already out and about doing music."
He struggled financially even when he finally got to Seoul and admitted that before, he would have to choose between buying two dollar noodles or using his money to take a bus home (he will always choose to starve ). On a Wings concept interview he said that in the past, he had struggled to afford three meals a day.
Q: What happened in the past?"
"I couldn't eat three meals a day It was hard"
"When I was working in the studio, I arranged songs or made beats and even sold them. Then I naturally started to rap and did performances"
Q: How much did you earn?
    " Nothing"
Q: You said you were working though.
"That’s what it was like to work there. Usually we don’t have any income. Working in the studio, it was difficult to pay for food and transport. In front of the studio, there was a Chinese restaurant that sells Jajangmyeon for 2,000 won, if I walk down further, there was a place that sells Janchi guksu for 1,000 won. I worried about it everyday. If I eat the 1,000 won Janchi guksu, I could get the bus and if I eat the 2,000 won Jajangmyeon, I’d have to walk 2 hours to get home. Even though it was tough, I want to make music so I endured it."
At the time, his parents couldn't financially support him and struggled with helping him pay his university tuition because they were poor. That's why yoongi worked part time jobs as well (at dawn ) while maintaining going to school ( at different times and will end up sleeping most of time because he was tired) and practicing as a trainee at BigHit (at night). He also used to buy lottery tickets weekly because he was that desperate .
Some of his part-time jobs were as a convenience store clerk, composing and MIDI teacher, and another as a delivery boy... which is how he got into an accident (2012, pre-debut) and his shoulder got shattered. He didn't tell anyone, afraid the company will kick him out, that's why his shoulder didn't heal right. This shoulder injury became something that he struggled with for 9 years. He told the members that he just fell down the stairs. Eventually, the company found out about this injury and paid his college tuition and hospital fees. It was surprising considering that the company were facing an almost "bankruptcy" at that time. Suga told the truth about the accident to the members 2018 on "Burn the Stage" series. It is also where he recalled that the last thing he remembered before the accident was the "wheel" in front of him.
It's one of the factors as to why his mental health issues worsened. He has been quite open about his depression, social anxiety and OCD.
He'd been suffering for almost a decade because of that injury that didn't heal right. It even came to a point that it became a hindrance to his everyday life and he had to get injections for the swelling and the pain quite frequently so he could still perform. His shoulder often got dislocated as well.He once said in an interview that when he tried to lift a 50ml bottle when they were filming a commercial, his shoulder hurt. Suga, underwent surgery in November 2020 to heal his shoulder, is his decision because he want to be able to continuously perform on stage. BTS dance choreographies are no joke and if you watch them perform, you wouldn't think that Suga had a chronic condition that constantly caused him pain. I can't imagine how he managed to perform despite of that. If he hadn't talked about it, fans wouldn't have known that his old injury was constantly acting up. This is only a part of his hardships. He really had gone through so much shit to get where he is at right now. No wonder he is so independent. Maybe it is why he is so used to carrying his burdens alone.
"Bang PD-nim told me I've become much brighter after releasing my mixtape (in reference to the letter and how he released his first mixtape as a way to let out toxic emotions). He even asked me where the indecisive person full of wrath from before had gone. It was my complex and the way to solve it was music that I need to make"
Agust D is Yoongi's way of healing himself and also healing people who also has struggles and is feeling hopeless. He also studies psychology because of this.
This song is not autoconclusive, I recommend you listen to the whole album!

Yoongi’s interpretation of the amygdala is the part of the brain that holds trauma and trauma response. If you have a memory of something traumatic, the amygdala releases the fight or flight response when faced with the same thing again.
So he’s basically asking his brain to let go of his trauma so he can be free of it.

Brand new to your reactions but you won’t regret diving deeper into AgustD or any BTS member they have equally moving music. This album is a true tour d force. This song and the whole idea of it is radically making me rethink how I am not dealing with my own trauma. It’s been, on repeat. Hard but therapeutic. He will never take an easy way out but shows us his wounds to help us understand our own. The song on this album Snooze is a direct song to those in kpop or any artists or humans suffering and offers them a safe space. It’s an equally beautiful song maybe even more so.

Don't worry, he didn't gave up, this is the beggining of the whole thing, He said to listen to Daewchita, Haegum and Amygdala in one sitting, but this is for fans that have followed his jorney since 2016, when he started to open up to us about his internal struggles, show vulnerability but, please since you are starting it, I'll tell you that it's followp up are 28, People, People part 2 and Snooze, that shows his healing process. On the other hand you can see his struggle with Nevermind, Seesaw and Shadow through his First Love, while his own enouraging words to himself and us in Tomorrow and specially So Far Away.
As someone who has followed him through my own pain and healing process, I'm so happy to see the person that released D-Day, I'm so proud of him, as someone who loves, respect and admires someone could be, so is so brave, so strong and such a safe place to us, his people, I'm so sure he see us ARMY as siblings that he has to protect.

During his trainee days, Suga worked as a delivery boy to earn some money for his education and food etc
One day he had an accident as you saw in the MV.
His shoulder got damaged. He didnt tell anyone afraid he'd lose his trainee status.
Later the company found out. Paid his bills and his education fees.
The shoulder pain got worse over years. He survived by taking pain killers. As seen in MV. He finally had an operation in 2020.
In addition, they had just debuted and the Kpop industry was trying to crush them. Their company Bighit was small, no clout or power or much money. They were outsiders in the kpop power corporates the Big 3 SM, YG and JYP. So BTS were the underdogs, the outsiders of the industry.
Media black out, not many invitations to music shows, TV shows, if they did, it was either cut short or not aired. Thats why BTS started their own shows. The famous one is Run BTS with kover 100 shows. They were mocked at and humiliated.
Suga's first two mix tapes are full of anger and some personal pains and traumas.
But we see in Haegeum the scar of the policeman Agustd is healed and the other one does not have any scars.
Today Suga is at ease. Kind to his juniors, very helpful.
His songs are written and produced by him so also the MVs.

Man, where do we begin? When it came to Min Yoongi, he’s been through so much that one really needs a crash course in AGUST D 101. After his parents not supporting him in his music to him having to go underground with it, and becoming a delivery boy to help fund those dreams which resulted in his accident and subsequent shoulder injury. He lived with that pain for years even hiding it from his BTS brothers yet they at least helped him through his anxiety, depression and at one point he even contemplated suicide. With the love of those “brothers” (and Army) he’s still here to talk about it. The songs he created were full of anger back then (the scar). He’s fought those demons with an incredible inner strength and his family finally came around and began supporting him as well. He even broke down in concert upon seeing them in the audience. The memories of his parent’s health issues and the inner battles he’s faced in his young 31 years is overwhelming to say the least and with this new album he’s come forth and shared that pain and to be honest, I think it’s actually helped not only him but so many others with their personal crisis to come to terms and not live in the past but to live in the now. We can’t live in the past. We can’t live in the future. We can only live and learn in the here and now. I believe we could all take a lesson from Suga. He’s a wise man, indeed

This video is so emotional and had to have been hard for Suga to put out there. He has been through much and has overcome it all. He speaks of mental health and right now the kpop industry needs a lot of help with that. When Suga got hit by the car pre debut and keeping that inside for so long caused so much depression. During the pandemic he finally got the injured shoulder operated on and even though I'm sure he feels a lot better it has to still hurt him physically and mentally. I love how Suga uses AgustD to bring awareness to these sensitive issues. Also, this video is a prequel to Datchwita and Hageum.

I just watched your reaction to Amygdala MV, and there is an ending. On the tour he just finished last Sunday, the stage was the room he was trapped in the MV. At the end of the last concert on the last day, there's a door set upon the stage. He opens it, turns around to wave at the audience, and walks through, closing the door behind him.
The planning that went into this just blows my mind. If you can watch a recording of the stream somewhere this upcoming Sunday, I highly recommend it. Just an incredible piece of art.

Thank you for reviewing this song!
The amygdala is an almond-shaped part of the brain that processes and triggers fear, anger, and anxiety, it basically stores bad experiences, aka trauma, in order to be able to overcome the next bad experience with the information already learned from the past experience.
Yoongi also references the book "Almond" in the MV, in the book a boy who is born with his amygdala underdeveloped is advised to eat more almonds in an attempt to improve his amygdala.
Also, in the documentary movie of the creation of "D-Day", about this particular song Suga said: "In a way we're responsible for all our own wounds and scars. No one can dodge the first arrow of trouble, of course, but when that second around flies at you, you've chosen to just stand there and get hit rather than learn from the first time".
    You nice, keep going!

The stories in Suga's lyrics are all true of his past. He actually did meet an accident while he was doing delivery jobs on the side to make ends meet. He was also faced with his parents' medical conditions while struggling as an idol trainee and producer for BTS. He hid his pain of his dislocated shoulder since 2012 and just had shoulder surgery in November 2020. It was a good thing you had watched his Daechwita MV and followed with Haegeum and now Amygdala to complete his trilogy.

Agust Dwas created out of pain and anger, now he’s reached more peace, he feels Agust D isn’t needed anymore. This is just a theory but it makes sense from comments Yoongi has made.

Not sure if anyone aid this but he had a tour right after this music video came out and at the end of it he opens the door signifying that he finally found his healing. Or at least the beginning of it. He is a very critical thinker and uses each opportunity he has for story telling so he can tie it all together. Glad you’re checking out more of BTS. You gotta react to OUTRO:TEAR!!!!!!!! That song was written by him for BTS because they were at a point of pretty much breaking up and that song was a part of the reason they stayed… That year was the beginning of their best years that came. As Army we can be very passionate about our love for the boys but when you get to know their stories mixed in with their talent and artistry… It stops being a simple Fan & Artist relationship and honestly becomes FAMILY.

Also, from my understanding, this track felt like he was purging himself of these emotions in a way. He did mention that it was hard creating this track because he had to recall some traumatic memories. I haven't seen anyone mention this so I thought I'd mention it. At the end of the Agust D world tour (in the final concert performance), There is a door that looks exactly like the one in the Amygdala MV. The tour concludes with him walking out of the door after waving at us to show that he's fine and he's healed enough to get though the door and continue fighting. It was a beautiful and emotional moment because it shows that what we see in this MV was yet another small step in his fight but there was more to follow after. As we can see here he couldn't kick the door down because simply doing the journey towards the door takes a lot of effort and fighting. In the concert, each song he performs has a part of the stage disappearing one by one until the stage is so deconstructed that he's only left standing on one piece. We saw that for many many shows (almost like he's using the music as healing) and the final show he gets through the door to close this chapter of pain and unhealthy thoughts.

  • @Feyvolta
    @Feyvolta Рік тому +27

This could be kind of long so I apologise.
This song is so raw and powerful and I was really blown away by it when I first heard it.
As someone who suffers with PTSD and CPTSD and has had a lot happen over the years, this song and MV hits on a deeper level than I was ready for upon first seeing it today.
Without going into detail, loss and potential loss are the biggest factors of my trauma for me at that time it just felt like one bad thing after another.
("don't know why things are so hectic" / "Things I never asked for, Things that are outta my control").
I struggled for a long time and still do with choices I made during those times, always asking even now "did I do enough?/could I have done more?/could I have handled it better?"
("Hope I made the best decisions, Because they’re also all in the past now")
But the thing about dealing with the memories is that you struggle with wanting to deal with them so you're finally able to put it behind you but also not wanting to remember them in the first place due to the nature of them.
    ("My amygdala (my amygdala)
Please save me, please save me")
And the thing about trauma is that, for people who have suffered a lot of it, it's hard to really remember who you were before it affected your life.
    So for me the line
    ("I don't know your name")
could be coming from me on either side of my trauma - the me before my trauma wouldn't recognise the me I am with it because I'm so changed by it, but the me I am now doesn’t know who she is without it and struggles to let go of it for fear of not knowing who I'd be if I did. To the point sometimes I just kind of "put the memories back" in order to calm myself down and pretend it didn't happen to go about my day.
This is something I feel Suga has had to go through himself and is kind of alluding to here with
("Let’s put them back in, one after another, Yeah, one after another, yeah, one after another")
It's a difficult topic to speak on even with experience and I'm absolutely all for the topic being covered more for the sake of open communication about dealing with things like this.
And while I'm not quite at the ("What didn’t kill me only made me stronger
And I begin to bloom like a lotus flower once again") stage, I hope one day I might be and then I can put myself back together enough to live fully again.
Again I apologise for the length of the comment, I just wanted to add my own thoughts after watching your reaction.
Love your videos by the way! Always nice to see someone be as moved by/in tune with music as me. It's something I've always felt a bit weird for since I really get into songs when I listen lol.

I just wanted to say "thank you" for typing all my own words. I appreciate Yoongi's music so much, in whichever persona, because it shows that struggle between pain and healing, but especially that he offers that there IS healing, and we CAN be happy. Sometimes I envision him as holding light (like with a big mirror) at the *bend * of the tunnel (like a guide) so that we can see the end of the tunnel from it. In my darkest days "Yoongi wants me to be happy" (from a holiday greeting he made in a red & white striped sweater) has been a mantra that's saved me. It may sound silly to others, but knowing that he really knows this struggle intimately did more for me than so many bouts of therapy had managed. So I'm also waving a hand to you as we each journey onwards from our pains and traumas into the healing light👋💪✌️🖖💜💜

To give you a little bit of context, the accident he had as a delivery boy in the video happened during his trainee days ( back in 2011-2013 when he worked that part time job to survive along with selling his own songs and lyrics, SUGA said that he had to chose between eating his meal or saving the money to go on bus to his dorm. So he was practically worn out) the accident left him with a shoulder injury which he hid from the company being afraid to be kicked out and not being scouted. It was until 2020 when he couldn't take it anymore ( because of how painful it was due to dancing and stuff) and had 3 surgeries to fix his shoulder tear.
Also Amygdala is a space in our brains where traumas and fears are processed. That's why I think the dark chamber in the MV represents SUGA'S Amygdala which is probably why he couldn't escape it or crawl out of it not even when his past self, the delivery boy, tried to rescue him ( he didn't give up like you speculated). His traumas are part of him and is what made him the person or the Artist he is today.
Another thing about " I don't know your name" part in the song. To let you know SUGA has achievements under three different names: BTS, SUGA, and AGUST D ( of course without forgetting his real name that is Min Yoongi). He is the first and only Korean artist to have achievements under three different names. So probably when he says "I don't know your name" it might be because of this different egos and personas he has.
I enjoyed your reaction, keep up the good work.

FYI - SUGA had that accident PRE-Debut and the tire CRUSHED his shoulder, 2 inches from his head. He didnt tell anyone because as a Trainee, you can get cut for not being top tier. He didnt get the shoulder fixed until 2020 after the pandemic hit. Imagine all their hard choreo and that left ARM is fractured. But his BTS solo songs are great too and some of my favorite verses from him are in BTS songs, i.e. "Hip Hop Lover", where the rap line talk about their relationship with hip hop, and "Born Singer" (a remake of J. Cole's "Born Sinner", where they passionately talk about their debut experience.

When I saw the title I had no idea it would be this good, but I hoped.
You are right, the amygdala now refers most exclusively to the brain one (the actual word means “almond” and once was used to refer to any almond shaped part of the body, including the palatine tonsils). It is a part of the limbic system, which is responsible for our emotional response, and instinctual behaviors such as fight or flight (or freeze!). It is also involved with long-term memory.
He talked about how he researched the theme in the interview he did with RM and as a neuroscientist I was so impressed and proud that he created such an accurate interpretation of the amygdala even through artistic liberties. The amygdala is involved with processing memory, even emotional memory, and decision-making and the emotional response, like fear, anger and anxiety, as well as response to trauma.
So it is amazing that despite how raw it feels to listen, it is as accurate and it is emotional. It sure touches on our own amygdala, to respond to our own emotions and even traumas. A great job of combining many realities, emotion and follow the actual science of if, like good art often can.

After discovering SKZ, I don't listen to BTS much anymore outside of j-hope's work, but this latest Suga album really surprised and moved me. I cried at Amygdala and at Snooze specifically. I didn't explore the meaning of his lyrics too much because they moved me on their own - they resonate with my own experiences and emotions.
As for Amygdala - probably due to the use of autotune (which I love) it reminded me somehow of Volcano by Han? I don't know why, the mood of the two songs is different - but they both touch on intense emotions and musically I can see some similarities here. Currently, these are two of my favourite songs!

Your reactions are always entertaining , even with songs that are more emotional. I personally think that the ending to this song is a symbolism for the struggles that we cannot overcome. Because let’s be honest, sometimes you lose. But I think the outcome of what you do with the situation defines you as a person. And I think that’s why in this video, this is the creation of the scar on his face. This marks the beginning of his struggles that he cannot overcome. And eventually you start to realize the struggles of the problems, and ending with Haegeum, as liberation. This whole album was a masterpiece!

Younger Suga on the bike at the end has an epiphany moment BEFORE the next residual "loop" memory replays again for the millionth time (as all that Augst D has been able to do up to this point is just re-live the tragedies over and over and over again in a downward spiral).
Suga races to the door in a effort to stop the chaos and let Augst D out of his brain/Amygdala...and realizes that he can't change the past nor save himself from what he will have to go though as the door is locked.
The 2 identities that make up Suga/Augst D will always be a part of him as we can't change our pasts no matter how much we wish we could.
BUT, in that final scene, young Suga finally BROKE the haunting loop cycle memory by finally breaking out of that destructive pattern (him racing to open the locked door) instead of continuing on his bike in his memory and ultimately crashing as he has in his mind every time since the accident, over and over and over again.
IN THIS ACTION of trying to take a stand against the mental torment and try and actually save himself breaks the downward spiral pattern because something different, for the first time, resulted in him actually WANTING to save his own life now.
While the two entities will always be separate, breaking the mental loop of re-living tragedy every day brings the 2 entities into one and ignites the healing transformation that brings him to today as a prolific songwriter, story teller, survivor and massive mental health advocate and ally.
This is literally one of the best songs ever made. Suga/Augst D is a fkn genius.

Thank you for reacting to this. It means a lot. And what you said about the lack of free speech when tackling heavy topics, either on youtube or any other platform is so true. It's such a blessing to find music like this that provide that. Yoongi/Agust D/Suga always spoke so much about mental health and just the state of being. I remember when i first heard his song FIRST LOVE which talked about his love for music and his journey, his song SHADOW that talked about his inner demons, i still cry. He's so true and vulnerable and relatable.
Thank you so much. I hope in your journey through his music you find the same realizations and clarity many of us had 💜

This is my fave reaction so far. Your comments are on point, and you being so involved that you wanted to kick the door down was so genuine. Not gonna spoil anything, but Agust D does get to better terms with himself by the end of the album. So I agree with the other comments here. This MV's ending is more an acknowledgment, coming to terms that these memories are very much a part of him, unpleasant as they may be--he just learns to live with it. Thank you for an insightful reaction 🙏💜

one small thing to add... i feel like when it starts raining, it reminded me of how with PTSD or something like it, one thing can remind you of a day you had once, where it rained and something bad happened and now rain forever reminds you of that. like... my dad died recently of sudden cancer, and it was right before full moon and he never got to make it past full moon before he died. now forever, me looking at the moon cycle, it reminds me of my dad.
of course in this mv the rain could have lots of meanings. it's always free to interpret as you'd like, as suga himself says. But he is always so honest and raw in his lyrics. one of the greats. a true artist.

  • @strawberrymilkshakepoetryt5910

I feel like "Amygdala" and "The last" are both deeply connected to the part of him that uses his writing for healing and reflection while trying to help others out there struggling through similar things... ❤
I sometimes write the things I Myself needed when I was struggling hard with my ptsd, and I try to be the role model/adult that I Myself needed while growing up - And I honestly believe that Min Yoongi/Suga/AgustD are doing the very same thing, or at least in a similar way try to help Anyone he can by showing his heart in both songs.. 🌸 I love and truly respect how he carefully unwraps this very vulnerable, honest and beautiful healing side of himself to the world... ✨🐈

Seeing the car crash hits harder knowing he went through it. Everything he talks about hurts, but he shows that one to us. I think because Army already knows about it, and his shoulder surgery because of it. He did an interview with IU where he said this was his favorite track from this album. I don't see the end as giving up, just that sometimes... I don't know, you have to sit in those moments and feel them. Especially with depression or anxiety, sometimes you can kick the door down and sometimes, well I crawled most of the way, I'll take the win I got cause the alternative is f*cked. As for listening to BTS in the future, looking forward to it if you do. This is kind of what Army expects from them. They don't shy away from the dark shit but still show the happy shit too. They've flat out said they were putting out happy pop tracks during the pandemic to try and make fans smile during a hard time.

Teddy, I just discovered your channel. Really enjoy your insight on stuff! This is one of my favorite songs on the album, truly unexpected vulnerability. He always 100% brings it with the lyrics. I think we’re watching the struggle inside Suga’s brain represented by the room. When young Suga runs to “rescue” himself from the painful memories by letting him out of the room, it’s as though he’s facing those painful thoughts. I don’t view the fact that he couldn’t rescue himself (in the past) as necessarily a bad thing. It’s the fact that he tried. I was lucky enough to see Suga | Agust D perform this live in Newark, New Jersey last Saturday and I can tell you it was both emotional and powerful. Suga puts on an incredible show.

When I saw this video, I knew it was made before the tragedy, but it hit different even more so watching this last night, so soon after it happened. PS: In the end, trauma can’t be resolved. Because we can’t undo what has been done. We can only learn how to live with them. Compartmentalisation can be bad when we suppress our memories. But once faced and dealt with, compartmentalisation is the only way we can move on from our past.

So he continued to work with a broken hand. He told them later but he only had surgery 1 or 2 years ago at that time his shoulder was about to give up so he had to sit away from group activities for some time and had surgery. Also bts has a lot havy chroegrapy which cause him a lot of pain so during concerts he had to take shots between them.

The MV has age restriction and it's not suitable for everyone. Besides, SUGA himself had mood swing to go through his past memories and trauma to write this song. It's personal and he needs to wrap up his Agust D persona. So, he revealed his vulnerability in explicit MV. Most of us even got surprised. We know most of his past trauma and struggles. Honestly, this is meant to be for his fans. I mean his fans know many sides of him. We'll deal with this side of him. His past mixtapes were not even available for Korean streaming sites before. Agust D's songs are loved because of unfiltered, raw and sincerity. But, this is too much personal information and non-fans may get wrong idea or trigger some emotions.
Edit: To those who may concern about SUGA situation, he's quite ok. He's bringing out both Agust D and SUGA to tour. He's connecting with his past memories and trauma for the treatment while writing this song. This song is not the end of his album D-Day. There's People Pt. 2 and other songs like "Life Goes On." He's syncing Agust D and SUGA sides. What he said in Suchiwta show (interviewed by RM), he's able to break the cycle of relapsing in depression which he suffered every two or three years. Don't worry too much about him.

I really think that him being so open helped pave the way for other idols to open up about their personal struggles, especially as the group became more and more successful. As he has said, " if we don't say it, who will??", and when such an influential group/member can talk/sing so candidly about such taboo subjects, it allows others to come into the light with their struggles. BTS has seen so many others lost, particularly under the weight of cyber bullying (which the group and members have sung about often), that there is obviously more still to be done. Bravo, Yoongi, for leading us all by your vulnerability, and the courage to be so open!

Yoongi showed many of his past struggles in the lyrics, but also the visuals. When he ran into the car, it was reenacting himself when he was a delivery worker that got into an accident and he still suffers from injuries in his shoulder from it. The images of pills and the hospital were from his attempt at suicide back in (I believe) the year 2013. He has gone through so much and he really just lets it all out beautifully in his music.

from a younger agust d , a track that’s so self revelatory so heart rending … watch The Last…. From his first mix tape august d… in addition to a very rocky relationship with his father, he suffered depression OCD and social anxiety…which caused an episode before a concert in Japan where he could not go onstage … anyway Suga is an artist who has been examining himself in front of us for a long time … in the most raw and honest way….

  • @strawberrymilkshakepoetryt5910

The image 14.51 (in your reaction video above) of the tapestry knife falling down and hitting the floor at the exact moment as the flashing (memory?) of the person holding the pink dishwasher gloves collapses while the cup ("she?" cleans?) breaks on the ground - And the fast transmission into the next image that seems to highlight how memories like this triggers a chemical reaction between the synapses in his brain really shows how much of a real impact these fleeting flashbacks still affects him both while awake and in his sleep and even if I rarely cry (ptsd)... It honestly had me in tears... 👀😭 Also the lyrics and how he almost observes himself from the outside while in the end - emphasizing with himself, seeing how this suffering is too much for him to simply leave be anymore, and how it seem to start him off in a fight to save himself.. A slow painful crawl through trauma that is not yet finished, but at least acknowledged and purposely started within himself... ❤
(Ps: Sorry the Adhd- amount of words 😊)

I honestly don't know why i've wated to watch/listen to Suga's new songs...
    This one just hits different.
THE AMYGDALA is a part in the brain that its primary role is in the formation and storage of memories associated with emotional events. its role is processing of memories, decision making, and emotional responses (like anxiety, fear, and aggression).
He is calling to himself, to save him. So powerful.
Calling out to those hard times in his life that shaped him, but also bring out the worst in him. I'M JUST SPEECHLESS.
People face things in life that sometimes are embedded so harshly inside of us, that it changes our whole life, puts us in really deep, and sad places, that you want to rip out of you, or re-live them (as he is showing in the MV), but you can't.
It reminds me of the movie "Inside Out", where you have all of these emotions in your head trying to take control, thinking you should be happy all the time, but in the end you understand, you have to, that all of our emotions live together, you can't have one without the other.
    AMAZIN SONG. BEAUTIFUL. SMART.
