Ps2 Review: The Legend of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon

- Alright, it's time to finish this trilogy and Spyro marathon with Dawn of the Dragon. For those of you who responded to my aspect ratio video, your votes will take in effect on the next review, as this was footage that I had already captured before making that video. And thank you all for your feedback.
50,000 years later, I finally finished the game (last year, actually). I played the PS3 version, which is the definitive one, since the 360 release has bloom turned up to the max. The french developer Estranges Lubellules (Strange Dragonflies) really put all the effort into making the world look absolutely beautiful, and I fell in love with it, to the point of ACTUALLY CARING to save it from being destroyed. The battle system was polished to a high shine, and the game is, once again, HARD (casuals, get out!). Dawn of the Dragon is still a platformer at heart, despite everything else thrown in it, and that pleases me greatly. Collectables and bonus enemies are well hidden and the levels are normally very large, which compensates for their number (turned out each LOS game was completed under a tight deadline..... which would explain some of the flaws). I love the ending, it is perfect. The overall STORY isn't perfect, but it was finished in the best way possible. There was a song over the credits, and I somehow didn't hate it.
I am still missing 1 armor piece.
Don't worry, this isn't the final Spyro game, as the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy (which is a remake of all three Spyro games created for the original PlayStation) is on its way!
I *much* prefer the previous two entries to the series. Better graphics, combat, art style music, fury and breath powers, atmosphere and overall epic ness. 😎👌
While I love the original Insomniac trilogy, and I quite like Heroes Tail, I also loved the LoS trilogy. Particularly New Beginning because it came out at the right time, it had the perfect soundtrack, great voice actors (minus David Spade) and overall felt like a true reboot of the series. Remember, anything is better than Enter the Dragonfly....

Which song in Avalar are you referring to? Is it the first one before you find the missing cheetah, or the one after you leave the cave where he was being held? There are two soundtracks in that level.
You are my newest and most favorite UA-camr. You deserve a lot more views and subscribers but I'm glad I'm here now so I can say that I knew you before you became big on UA-cam
I used to have this on PS2, but I decided to replace it for the PS3 version, which it looks much better in that platform. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is one of my favorite titles. And the best one from the trilogy in my opinion.
Another thing I've noticed about your reviews is that you use very nondescript words such as "good" too much, it leaves things very vague.

Yea, I can definitely see where you're coming from. I still enjoy this trilogy though. I thought the Valley of Avalar looked absolutely gorgeous though. I will admit though that it doesn't exactly push the PS2's hardware or anything, but it's still good.
i had and still have this game o ps2! i finished the game twice bc it is soo hard! but this game is deep in my geart i love the game alot! and i say it is worth playing 100%

I had these games on the ds. A new beginning was a top down game, the eternal night was a 3d kinda like the console and dawn of the dragon was a sidescroller

Will I recommend playing legend of Spyro trilogy Absolutely. Eternal Night is myyy favorite and my favorite thing is that Spyro and Cynder can fly in third one but big letdown was removing those cool looking close combat slow-motion moves they were so cool looking and fun to execute. I wish they had made option when played single player they could have let those slow-motion moves stay but when two players It could be off. And time slowing skill was epic. Even tough third was fun it was disappointing to remove abilities in second game they should have upgrade those abilities not remove them. AND I LOVE YOU SAID YOU LIKE HERO's TAIL too. That's my all-time favorite Spyro game.
I dont know if it’s nostalgia but I fcing loved dawn of the dragon.It was my childhood and yes Ive played the first 3 spyro games I love them with all my hearth but the most memorable spyro games for me are spyro year of the dragon and dawn of the dragon.
I had the DS version growing up, and I found the controls pretty difficult. I only just now, 10 years later, have defeated the first boss. Maybe I'm just a shitty player. Parts of the story were missing too, so it didn't make sense. I grew up with it though, so i still love it.

I actually stopped playing this game after the dam level, which has nothing to do with its quality. I'll finish it eventually. I wanted to get it for PS2, but decided against it since I learned the PS2 version has a cutscene permanently glitched. Maybe the PAL version is okay, but ultimately I settled for the PS3 version. With the exception of this one minor glitch, it seems like the PS2 version is a perfect port. The combat is better, the levels are mostly open and well designed, with lots of things to collect. The graphics are really good, but for a PS3 version that is expected. Addition of a flight mechanic is a long-overdue one. Hunter is just boring however, as are all of his people (save for one). Also, you forgot to mention that all the apes were killed by Malefor since the last game, and you get to fight their reanimated skeletons here. THAT is pretty metal........... isn't it? And a fun fact: the developer's previous games are the PS2 Asterix titles, XXL and XXL2 (I prefer the first).
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the X360/PS3 version was the primary one during development and the Wii/PS2 versions were just afterthoughts.
I only used electricity in combat as Spyro, am I bad now?
The colours felt over saturated, and far too much bloom. I couldn't see myself playing it again once I beat if the first time.

Dawn of the Dragon feels like paper machete as opposed to A New Beginning & The Eternal Night which feel like steel.

THE BEST SPYRO GAME EVER
I am sorry but I think I got dissapointed with the original ones because there are kinda boring...... but dotd omggg this game never makes me get bored the story the amazing grafics for a ps2 game and the gameplay are fucking awesome sorry thats mine opinion guys. I like games like the dotd there are freaking awesome so yea I dissagree with you because I think dotd is the best spyro game 😓

5 things I have to say about it.
1: Of course, it's the most obvious one. The. Story. Is. Amazing.
2: Majestic orchestrated music with a choir that every scene.
3: The chemistry between Spyro and Cynder is just adorable.
4: Graphics!...... Graphics!!!!......*GRAPHICS*
5: The Legend Of Spyro series was the 2nd best on my opinion. Original Spyro games are still number 1. But hell a for a reboot starring Spyro in it had the best story line. I wish games had the same epic-ness as TLoS:DoTD. Sadly there aren't. Most of which are just generic Protagonist kills Antagonists. Dawn of the Dragons felt more of a interactive movie. Well literally like a movie just because of the black bars, but hell the story was interesting even at this day.
Fun fact: An actual movie was proposed about the The Legend Of Spyro series back in 2008. Sadly it was cancelled due to Activision saying that "They wanted it to go to another direction." I don't what they meant about that but it obviously says that they denied.

wauw, I couldn't disagree more with your opinion on wich ps2 spyro game would be the best. a hero's tail felt extremely boring to me. new beginning has the thing with combining your magic skills and elements to be more effective in combat and surthenly has a more combat focused gamestyle (dint play eternal night yet), and the last one seems to try to combine both (with frustrating puzzles for sure) with some features being more of a success then others. I respect your opinion ofc, but for people reading this and feel interested in trying the the legend of spyro series just be sure taste differ and maybe you'll like other things then someone else.
i can never like this reboot trilogy cause it just wasnt spyro, it wasnt the spyro or the characters i knew growing up and this gritty more combat hack and slash style reboot felt like a big fuck you to the fans of the original, if this is the only spyro games you have ever played then i suggest trying the ones on the ps1, cause if it wasnt for the names and likeness you would not be able to even tell this was related to the original
