I used to visit Drayton Manor quite often when I was little. I don’t go near as often now, but I do still go. I never really paid much attention to Shockwave because I was too scared or too small to ride it. When I got into roller coasters awhile ago, that’s when I got the courage to finally go on it, and it was certainly something unique to remember. I have only been on this ride once, but it will certainly be one ride I won’t forget. Thanks Shawn and Charlotte for making me interested in roller coasters because without you I don’t think I would’ve rode this ride. Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time for a picture with my daughter. She was so happy to finally bump in to you guys. Shes going to be very excited to see herself in the vlog later 😂🤘🏼👍🏻
I only found out about the shockwave change about a month ago, so I organised a trip there with three friends on the 2nd November (That was the only day we could all do), but this turned out to be the day when Storm Ciaran ended up coming in. Luckily though, the storm just missed the park and it hardly rained at all, plus people were obviously expecting bad weather so the park was completely empty, walk on everything. I eventually convinced two of my friends who were really nervous about it to try shockwave (it was their first big coaster, they’d only done accelerator before), and they ended up loving it, so much so we went on 7 times in the last hour and a half before the park closed, which was a great sendoff. Such a great rollercoaster and I’ll really miss its standup element, thank you for the memories shockwave!

I love how you documented these last rides as a stand up coaster. Back in 94 I was a member of ACE, and I remember reading about this coaster as it was getting built. I remember wanting to get over there to ride it because at the time, it was very rare to have a corkscrew on a stand up coaster. I've never made it over there, so I really enjoyed seeing all the old pictures of the ride in the queue, and the front seat pov finally gave me that ride I'll never have on shock wave. Thanks for documenting this piece of roller coaster history!
Was great to see you guys as always !! I am looking forward to the new sit-down train and the new theme, hopefully they call it “Wave” as it was fit in well with the rest of the area and keeps part of the original name ! Also it was a shame that very few enthusiasts turned up for the last rides
If it used to run 2 trains and the layout will remain the same, it may have been good to just add a sit down train with a lower height restriction and keep a stand up train for the unique factor 🤔
Sad to see the unique standup gone but as you said in the video it's better to have the sit down restraints than for the coaster to be removed completely. My one memory was taking my girlfriend at the time on and they got the height on the seat wrong so her feet were dangling throughout. she thought she wasn't in properly, bless her :D Excited to see it once it's all finished. I hope there next project will be what they're going to do with the old pirate adventure building.
I personally think that they could have still had the back half as stand up but the front as sit down, as it seems such a shame to be getting rid of such an iconic Uk rollercoaster
It’s interesting how both Shockwave and Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg ran for the final time on the same day. I was there for Nessie’s closing day, and I think Shockwave looked very fun as well! It’s great to see that both of these classics are going to be reimagined and sticking around for even longer.

Shockwave was the coaster that made me into an enthusiast, and I distinctly remember riding it, terrified on the way up the lift hill, only to have decided I was going to ride every rollercoaster I could find somewhere between the first loop and the zero G roll - a ride that will always have a special place in my heart. There was rumours knocking around a couple of the coaster forums that the sit-down trains are going to be something a bit unusual? Do we know what they are actually planning to do with them yet?
It is a rlly good ride and i love it to bits! Shockwave was my first ever coaster featuring inversions and it was also my first ever stand up! I rode it back in july and i did it twice that day. Those will be my last rides on this as a stand up! The weather was awful that day even closed the rapids! We did do storm force 10 tho 😂! As much as ill miss it standing up, the one thing i wont miss is the headbanging and the pain down stairs ( men you will understand! ) so many ppl think drayton is doing the wrong thing but they are doing such a great job with the park and i wish more ppl would see it. R. I. P Shockwave, 1994-2023. At least it will be here for the future!
I’m going to Drayton tomorrow, and I’ve been watching these videos to assure myself that it’s gonna be ok, my dad went on this on years ago but he had to take his glasses off so he couldn’t see anything 😂 love your videos, can’t wait to see more!
Ahh, my favourite coaster at Drayton Manor back in the day. School trips from a local school every year would go crazy for this ride, and I remember I once rode it about 8 times in a row and felt so ill 😂
Another excellent vlog documenting the history of this ride. Thank you! I have enjoyed it over the years and especially my kids riding it for the first time a couple of years ago! Will be interesting how it rides with the sit down trains and I look forward to visiting the park next year to experience this and the new coaster.
I remember when I went on the back row with my friend and it was his first time on shockwave, he was really anxious and was very reluctant to go on it. finally he came on with me and I have never heard a scream like his, it was extremely high pitch and loud. I was laughing really hard the whole time, even when we went home. fortunately though he loved it and we have went on it time after time! we went to the last stand event and we couldn't stop laughing on our last very ride, even though it was sad.
I'm sad I didn't make the effort to go for the Last Stand. I loved everything about it from the way the ride intertwined with the rapids, affording great views from the rapids as it roared overhead like a giant. Just feeling so high and exposed standing leaning over the top looking down, feeling my 14 year old feet leave the floor on that ejector roll was terrifying but so uniquely enjoyable in the many rides to come through the years. RIP Shockwave into rollercoaster heaven but looking forward to her ressurection!
Oh No!! Shockwave!! One of my favorite coasters in the UK changing into a family ride? As a Belgian, Drayton Manor whas the surprise I didn't expect. Shockwave was so different, and the staff told me for the first ride to go in front so I could make a better video with my GoPro. I was shocked (pun intended) how good and intense this ride was. It was Shockwave who made me love this park when he still stood next to GForce, another good ride that was removed for unknown reasons, just like Apocalypse and other amazing thrills. What is it with these parks in the UK going from hero to zero? This is the second icon to be removed after The Ultimate in what used to be a good Lightwater valley. I'm so glad I made a POV with my GoPro when I was there to have a reminder how good he was. I wasn't planning to make a video onride, but the staff said that I should do that in a re-ride. Thank you for being this nice. Now my first ride on Shockwave is something they won't take away from me to re- watch it. Lightwater and Drayton were my favorite places to visit, but now.... darn...sad...I can scratch another park on my list for my trip to the UK.
I hope they add one standup train so we can still experience the shockwave we all know and love! It’d also be good for thrill seekers who didn’t get to ride it originally or on the front originally.
We will all miss the only stand up roller coaster in the UK but maybe legoland Windsor could get a stand up roller coaster could be a future investment to legoland to replace the rapids
Sad to see this go as a standup, it was one of the first coasters I ever rode (G-Force was my first, r.i.p). I haven't been to Drayton in years but can still remember the unique sensations this ride offered. Yes it is a bit uncomfortable and inevitably is getting rougher with age, but I've always had a soft spot for the first drop and of course going through the rest of the elements standing is like nothing else in the UK. It probably won't be as thrilling a ride as a sit down but like you said - I'm glad they're at least investing in it and breathing new life rather than completely removing it. I think it's great that more people will be able to ride it with the lower height restriction and they're clearly wanting to better integrate it into the park. It does feel like a bit of an outlier in it's current state. Thanks for documenting this Shawn!
Was here this day and was gutted to find out I missed seeing you both! I managed to ride it for the first and last time 😊 ques were non existent and had a great day!
I did want 2 trains but from what I've heard it could be a H&S issue. With the sudden braking if the train was to overshoot for whatever reason, maybe in rain, it could be a risk. Similar to Thirteen, it could operate in rain but then new guidance deemed it unsafe
I remember riding this 52 times in one day back in 1997, it was a very quiet day, and that’s how I clocked up that many rides…literally on, off, on, off ALL day. I loved it
shockwave was a really unique and game changing coaster for the park it was a huge reason why i had a annual pass but if they are going down the family route then maybe its the right choice just a real shame to lose one of the few standup coasters left and with a zero g roll one of my favourite elements the things you feel are unexplainable! goodbye shockwave
Had 3 last rides on this on Saturday, we were on the first train of the morning and ernt straight back round as it was walk on. We then did it for a last time at the end of the day. Even in the rain it was running and they still kept it open towards the end of the day even though it was on reduced capacity with only the front roe due to the breaks when coming into the station
Hi Shawn and Charlotte lve just wanted to let you know that the last bits the new nemesis track is up and on the rollercoaster is now finished just the station to do now ❤
Video/vlog suggestion idea: on the 24th of November 2023, you should check out winter wonderland in stoke on Trent. It’s really good. You should also bring parkspill, Jack silkstone, digital Dan and thrill riders with you. And obviously Charlotte too. It would just be the ultimate gather up if all you lot came.
Thanks guys, are you going to show the crooked spoon, secret garden and flambo’s Jambo in the food vlog coming up from Alton Towers, or is it just food inside the park?
I got my first and last 5 rides a couple weeks back, found it wasn’t that uncomfortable with some tensing. Except for a massive pothole on the entrance to the loop, did you notice that?
I went to Drayton Manor on one of the final days of October, mainly to ride shockwave before it was reimagined and unfortunately it was closed for the entire day.
I have only been to Drayton Manor once as a kid in 2009. I only remember Thomas Land (and the Buffalo coaster) because that was the main draw for me then. Shockwave was probably one of the best coasters in the country when it opened but it seems that more modern rides have surpassed Shockwave in terms of layout, scale, and comfort. Adding a new sit-down train is the right decision for the park considering they are catering to the family market nowadays.
Just imagine... nemesis as a slc but with standing up train ❤🥵and oppurtunity for a other park, to insert or add a stand-up train .. to be the only one in Europe
They managed to fix it again then? i got stuck on the front row just over a week ago and thought i might have been on the very last standing train to leave the station but i guess i was wrong!😭
Hi Shawn and Charlotte I hope you’re doing well shockwave what a great rollercoaster let’s hope the theme is better and sit down it will be great when it is finished talking about rides I am off to Tenerife this week and I am looking forward to Siam park and l park to go on the only rollercoaster in Tenerife I can’t wait
You can see me in this video twice once in the queue line and once when he's on the ride at time 6:07 standing in the Blue Coat recording some off ride footage.
Drayton Manor will look better than ever next year with lots of projects: 1. Shockwave New Train with Lap Bars 2. New Intamin Lift and Launch Coasters 3. Terrances Driving School Relocation 4. Rethemed Drunken Barrels 5. And rumoured Retheme to Haunting However that might not be the end you still have the old Pirates Adventure building and Excalibur where new attractions could go plus the back end of thomas land could do with an up lift and refurb not much back there
I’m gutted that I wasn’t able to make the trip down for the ‘last stand’. I’ve never been on shockwave before. It’s a shame that they couldn’t just put on 2 trains. One stand up, one sit down. Then they could have just had 2 queue’s.
A very sad day even though when I went on it this year I thought hero was better for me I’m probably the only person who won’t miss them stand up trains
The last time i went on Shockwave at Drayton Manor Theme Park was about 25 years ago. This was also the last time i visited Drayton Manor Park in general. I have been going to Alton Towers since then instead, which is definitely much much better in my honest opinion. However, i can understand why Drayton Manor would want to change Shockwave from stand up to sit down. Like Charlotte said, if you change it to sit down & lower the minimum height restriction to 1.2 Metres, you can allow more people to ride it compared to before when it was 1.4 Metre minimum height. I wonder what the new name is going to be. Has Drayton Manor revealed it yet. Or are they keeping it a secret until early next year when it reopens after its refurbishment.
I never went on Shockwave but I'm going there next year hopefully so I'll be able to see how it was like but just with the sit down trains but it looked quite good stand-up. Edit: I didn't know it would have lap bar restraints, probably better than over head from my 1 ride on Icon.
Drayton Manor used to be a great park for all ages with their thrill rides since the new owners took over they've removed all the decent thrill rides and made it just another boring family park, I don't understand why they don't add a second sit down car instead of removing the stand-up option completely like Apocalypse originally offered, especially if they aren't even changing the track layout. Guarantee this park will end up a large kiddie park like Twinlakes or Chessington before the end of the decade.
Share your memories of Shockwave down below in the video comments!

You should also bring parkspill, Jack silkstone, digital Dan and thrill riders with you. And obviously Charlotte too. It would just be the ultimate gather up if all you lot came.
We’ll definitely be visiting Stoke Winter Wonderland!
best people to be on the last stand for it nice to see 💂♀️
Thanks guys, are you going to show the crooked spoon, secret garden and flambo’s Jambo in the food vlog coming up from Alton Towers, or is it just food inside the park?
We’ll cover as much as we can do!
I got my first and last 5 rides a couple weeks back, found it wasn’t that uncomfortable with some tensing. Except for a massive pothole on the entrance to the loop, did you notice that?
Good one for theme park history
Children missing the height level
Oh well as u say more can ride
I went to Drayton Manor on one of the final days of October, mainly to ride shockwave before it was reimagined and unfortunately it was closed for the entire day.
I have only been to Drayton Manor once as a kid in 2009. I only remember Thomas Land (and the Buffalo coaster) because that was the main draw for me then. Shockwave was probably one of the best coasters in the country when it opened but it seems that more modern rides have surpassed Shockwave in terms of layout, scale, and comfort. Adding a new sit-down train is the right decision for the park considering they are catering to the family market nowadays.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Brilliant vlog
How sad - so many memories! My dad went on this while my mum nearly had a heart attack at him being on 😂😂 - she hates rollercoasters haha
Just imagine... nemesis as a slc but with standing up train ❤🥵and oppurtunity for a other park, to insert or add a stand-up train .. to be the only one in Europe
Shock someone with a huge Shockwave😂
F in the chat for shockwave man
Just imagine the smiler was a stand up coaster
It’ll have lap bars from next year!? Oh my 😍
It will do!
They managed to fix it again then? i got stuck on the front row just over a week ago and thought i might have been on the very last standing train to leave the station but i guess i was wrong!😭
Awesome Video
I don't know if you know but Thomas Land Exhibit is finally back open and is looking better than ever
That’s good to hear!
I wish they would keep the stand up train arn rin it on one stand up and one sit down or run it stand up for special occasions
Hope you had a good day!
Drayton Manor will look better than ever next year with lots of projects:
1. Shockwave New Train with Lap Bars
2. New Intamin Lift and Launch Coasters
3. Terrances Driving School Relocation
4. Rethemed Drunken Barrels
5. And rumoured Retheme to Haunting
However that might not be the end you still have the old Pirates Adventure building and Excalibur where new attractions could go plus the back end of thomas land could do with an up lift and refurb not much back there
There’s plenty to look forward to!
What a coaster 🥲 so excited to see what 2024 brings at Drayton 😍
Exciting year ahead!
Hope you asked the park for the shockwave signs for the museum
Stay tuned 😉
I never got to ride shockwave due to my trip being moved to a trip to towers before the annoucement. my dream is to ride a standup one day
The last time i went on Shockwave at Drayton Manor Theme Park was about 25 years ago.
Great vlog guys!
Thank you!
Will 2024 be the new year of the roller coaster
Rip shockwave I hope sit down is going be better and a bit more investment from the looping group thanks TPW
They did say that they are retracking it though
I never went on Shockwave but I'm going there next year hopefully so I'll be able to see how it was like but just with the sit down trains but it looked quite good stand-up.
Edit: I didn't know it would have lap bar restraints, probably better than over head from my 1 ride on Icon.
1994: Uk gets an Invert, an Intamin and the UK's tallest coaster
2024: Uk gets an Invert, 2 Intamins? kinda and the UK's tallest coaster
I wonder if these new trains are gonna be made by b&m
Surprised it didnt get removed. Seems a bit too thrill for the direction the park is going in.
With the 1.2m height restriction it’ll be available to many more people!
it will be upsetting but sitdown was always coming but atleast its not leaving
What about the English chair?
