  • Installing a marine plate inspection hatch in the bow of my Lowe Skorpion 16 bass boat. This boat is all aluminum and I did not have access to under the deck near the bow. I wanted to be able to get under the bow to install a new trolling motor or if need be run new wiring for accessories.

Nice video, just wondering if it leaks? I didn't see any silicon around the ring.

It probably does around where the carpet meets on the outside because I didn’t put silicone down. The actual hatch is waterproof. I didn’t care about it being waterproof or not because my primary purpose was to have access to the front. I have a bilge pump to get rid of any water that comes in.

How’s your Skorpion been treating you? Can it handle biggish waters? Any problems you encounter with it?

I really like the boat. I primarily use it for bass fishing on inland lakes. I have taken it out on Lake Michigan when it’s a little calmer. I’ve had no problems with it and would consider buying a new one in the future if something happened to this one. Also I’m not worried about it sinking because it won’t sink. The way the flotation foam is inside the boat prevents it from sinking. It might get swamped and becomes inoperable but it will not sink so you could stay afloat until rescue
