I have the 130mm Bomber Z2 and I added a spacer while doing the first full rebuild for exactly the reason you stated - better small bump compliance and bottoming resistance. I already liked the fork before, but the combination of the token and servicing the lowers made a big improvement in performance, especially at the extremes of the stroke.
This is definitely the "regular guy" approach that probably 80% of riders would use ! Like a movie line "theres a right way & a wrong way" then thetes Shads way ! Hahaaa , good job ! 👍
You and I are similar in age, so I know you, back in the 80s, used pliers or vise grips remove or tighten your BMX pedals, bottom bracket, head sets, etc. ha ha. Every nut and bolt on my bike rounded and stripped. Ha ha. The good old days.
I would really get the right socket if you are going to do that often. I get what you are saying that you have the wrench lying around. [by the way for those interested a good hack for beading the tires is just get air at a gas station instead of buying a compressor] I have a 140 fox rhythm. I just start with the manufacturer recommendation as a baseline. I’m probably 195-200lbs with gear and running 85~ psi with 1 volume spacer. As long as I can get off the top of a picnic table with 1/4-1/2 left of travel I’m good. You want that last 1/4 for mistakes and to pull out of endos etc.
If you have a shraedder valve tool just remove the valve core, especially for lowers or complete service that way no air for sure but also easier to pull the stanchions. I also inspect the core while at it... 😅
I love Marzocchi s. Good looking Saguaro

I actually used an adjustable wrench. Never vice grips for the very reason you stated. All they did was strip out bolts.

I agree. Having the right tool for the job is always the better idea.

Sure, once you have some riding on the fork. This fork is brand new.
