  • Don't drill into your beloved desk. It doesn't like that. Instead use velcro straps to secure your cables, it's cheap, easy and effective!

    A lot of the videos i've seen for comuter desk cable management guides have been fairly generic in offering the Ikea Signum as the one stop shop for cable management. While the Signum definitely does hold it's own for cable management, not everyone has access to Ikea for all of their cable woes. So... I got a bit creative and used some velcro straps as a cable management solution.
    I really want a no holes drilled, no power tools, no tools cable mangement guide. I wanted something that was easy to remove, install and flexible enough to allow me to remove and add peripherals on the fly. Which is exactly what the velcro allows me to do.
    For a pc cable management guide, I wanted to show that even for 15 dollars (can be cheaper if you bulk buy off amazon), you can have an extremely tidy gaming setup, with minimal cables showing on your desk.
    Send me some snaps of your before and after setup on twitter!

    In hindsight this video has an obnoxiously long pre-roll. 1:30 for context and 2:10 for the start of the video.

    finally someone makes a video that you dont need to drill holes or buy a signum

      +Louis Vo I just felt sorry for Ed from Tech Source and Randomfrank p having to constantly repeat " And as for cable management we have an ikea signum." Hopefully velcro will start making some in roads on the room tour project scene lol

      I always watch Ed and Frankp, and they always say buy a Ikea Signum. Personally I think that the Ikea Signum just look ugly as hell and it's not very clean.. Velcro with Cable clips and 3M Tape do the jobs and it's ten time cleaner than the signum.. hahaha

    I saw the hue review a while ago and though daaaamn that's some tidy cable management, cool seeing how it was achieved. I've done something similar now too, we have pet rabbits and so far I haven't lost any more cables!
    I did add in some fixed fastenings to the desk for a modem and my Arlo camera hub... kinda cheating haha

    With the cables coming from the IO of the PC, you could use cable sleeving to group them all together and make it look a bit tidier. Just a suggestion

    If the cable box actually was 140x140cm that would be pretty sizable indeed! ;)

    You can probably use good velcro strips to also mount your strip and such as well. I might try this method, after learning the desk im using cant really be drilled into (ikea honeycomb filled).

  • @feefeee

    But these adhesives lose effectiveness after a period of time with a load (eg: power strip) especially in a warm environment.

    For the keyboard cable I actually run it towards me and then down the table, so it looks wireless-other than near the table ends a few centimeters of cable where my big belly rests

      Yeah mate. I;ll post it up on GP too. I'm just looking at a new case first. Have you any experience with the Phanteks line? I saw a P400 in PBtech this morning.

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  8 років тому

      Awesome. I haven't actually built inside a Phanteks case before, Dmitri over at HC's said that the P400 would be his budget case pic for 2016 though so it's supposed to be very good lol I've personally spent more time with Corsair, NZXT and cooler master cases. I absolutely adore my Fractal R5.

    I know this is a dead thread, but how would the adhesive and the lock hold up upside down? my desk is just one piece of wood without any support so i need something that attaches to the bottom

    • @mknander6
      @mknander6 6 років тому

      It would depend on how much weight there is on the velcro and how far you space them out. If you were mounting it on the bottom i'd use more velcro pads and have less distance between each pad.
