Honestly TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and 3 IDIOTS were ahead of times
These 2 movies set a precedence for making the Indian audience also filmmakers realize that good content driven, thought provoking and fun movie can become a recipe for commercial success
I still yearn for such movies nowadays among the mass endeavors INDIAN CINEMA is embarking on

My sister is a teacher and she says a lot of women colleagues (science teachers)discuss daily soaps in thier staff rooms or discuss sareees or fabrics rather than new science ideas. Indian education itself is a hocus pocus scheme where degree and marks value more than zeal to gain knowledge. Go check out the quote from niel degrees tyson.

@@userwhatever Yeah my school from 1st std. till 6th std. was a prison. They were all so strict and gave hard punishments, which included physical harm. I had been slapped hard almost a 70 times till 5th std. But since it wasn't visible and I wasn't the sort to complain to parents about everything, nothing happened. But in 5th std. my teacher gave me 10 beatings with a steel ruler for not completing my homework and it caused some of my flesh to come off and also made my hand bleed a little. My father saw that once I was home, took me back to school immediately, and cursed the teacher and grabbed his collar threatening him if he ever did that again. That was the last time I was physically punished in school. They would just make me stand out of the classroom if I did something that justified some punishment.

1:52 this is true and I can agree. Education system was like this in India back then, I my self had gone through such treatment by teachers till my 5th standard (grade/class). A mistake or inattentive behavior was rewarded with flying chalk, beating with a ruler on palm of hands or closed wrist, or a beating on the back and if you are a boy, teachers wouldn't hesitate to slap you on the cheeks. But eventually after various complains and intervention of parents, such "teacher brutality" has nearly ended, strict action is taken against such abuse, still such "education system" can be seen in rural areas of India.

I don't know how many times I watched this film...... it's so relatable..... I've hearing problems in my childhood...... no one understood that in my early ages...... after years, my parents understood I've a hearing problem..... they started caring me....... still......society couldn't accept...... if I cannot hear clearly, if I ask second time, they get irritated......
    I know how it feels......
After long years I realized, I've to walk my path alone......
