Probably one of the best NAS releases, don’t know what you pay over there but it’s usually good value too. Nice one John. But.... it’s July... 12 Hours of Boom?!!! 😳
I've noticed with this one that people tend to vary wildly on how peated they perceive it to be. For me, I find it as peated as Ardbeg 10 (which makes sense, both are peated to around 50 ppm). It's a fantastic dram though and I'm probably picking up an 18 soon (although a few other things are on my list, a Kavalan is currently very tempting). In South Africa it's usually under R800 where Springbank 10 is ludicrously priced at around R900 and Kilkerran 12 and Ardbeg 10 are usually around R700. Springbank 12 cs (R1200) and Kilkerran 8 cs (R900) are real steals, not sure if we're getting any of the 2019 Kilkerran 8 cs and due to the current world situation stuff is stuck at ports or not yet bottled etc. etc.
I enjoyed this one a lot, guys! It was only a sample... Whole bottles of Longrow are hard to come by around here, but at least Springbank 10 and 15 have become easier to find of late.
Solid review lads and I'm so glad you did this instead of all the crazy limited Longrow. The beauty of Springbank is the fine quality of their core range at a good price. Far too many folk trying to get those unicorn releases and missing the essence of great whisky at a good price. Springbank 10/ Hazelburn 10/ Longrow Peated are damned good whiskys at good prices. I'm not sure I enjoy the 18 year old varieties more enjoyable. Seriously, after so many years of reviewing everything under the sun, I'm enjoying reviews of great value, possibly younger, whisky. I think we need to go back to our roots and reassess less expensive whisky and see how our palates and experience appreciate them now. Longrow Peated is a perfect example. Cheers my good friends. Be careful out there. WT
Bart, for the intro-level peat recommendation, try Ledaig 10... also, there is an independent bottling (Islay Single Malt 6 year old by James MacArthur...maybe a young Lagavulin??) that also is very tasty (just enough peat to keep you excited, but not enough peat to ruin a newbie's day). Both are delicious, even though you can't beat Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and the other big boys. Keep up the good work guys!
Springbank also has the Longrow and Hazleburn lines of singlemalts. Glen Scotia and Glengyle( Kilkerran) are a couple of the other Campbeltown distilleries.
Just opened a bottle this week. Fantastic stuff and a great value at $60. Think I prefer this to Springbank 10. Think what Bart is getting is that this is Highland peat from Inverness instead of Islay peat from Port Ellen. Islay peat has decomposed seaweed kelp and saltwater that has a very different character. Cheers Guy's
@@ScotchTestDummies One of the others to try that is off the beaten path a little is the Benromach Peat Smoke. It's excellent. Bart, you will really like that one, being a peat head
I'll remind you guys of a Bart story from quite a while back... Bart was introducing someone to whisky and during the show he told Scott that he had this 'new to whisky' person trying to take tiny sips of Jack Daniels 'Double B' (Barrel Proof, Single Barrel). Similar story. I recall Bart trying to present the point that if you can get past the extreme strength, the taste is really nice. I agree on that. Back then I even wrote to you guys trying to explain a special sipping technique I worked out for the Double B, which was 'frothing.' You don't sip the liquid... you make a pursed lips sipping thing like sipping ultra hot coffee where what you really do is take in a 'froth' of the liquid. That gives you almost a vapor... micro droplets or something. The Double B is so strong, it really burns. You either dilute it, or maybe try the frothing sip technique. I wouldn't try to teach a beginner how to do that. Scott as maybe rightly (maybe not) raggin' on Bart for the audacity of picking Double B for a beginner... It made a great story. Cheers!
Would be interesting to know what's the peatiest whisky for Bart. Imo it's very hard to beat Laphroaig 10 CS. For my palate it's peatier than Octomore and other heavily peated whiskies
Would also be really interested to hear what Bart considers to be a true peat monster offering. Love to see you guys do a "for the peat heads" clip where you tried and maybe ranked some of the most peat and smoke forward Scotch offerings out there.
You guys are making up for lost time...very nice review and spot on. Since Bart is trying to accrue disciples for his ‘Peat Cult,’ I’ve had success introducing friends to peat with Jura Superstition and Kilkerran 8 yo.
This is a very good option if you find Islay whisky too perverted or gross, but still want to try sth peated. I liked it from the first sip on, esp it's fruityness. Great choice, Gents!
@@ScotchTestDummies oh I agree, my first peated whisky was ardbeg 10 and I haven't looked back since. But some people just aren't ready to go in the deep end lol.
@@ScotchTestDummies I am sure they would go quick! Or if you can get bobble heads, how about weeble wobbles! STD Weeble Wobbles. Assuming people remember what those are.

It's about $60 here in the US, maybe a little less or more depending where you are.

Thanks Roy! Been way too crazy here for any 12 hours of anything. Maybe we’ll try for October

I’m liking this better than lagavulin and caol ila

Love the Longrow Red Malbec ... have really enjoyed that a lot. Haven’t had a chance to try this one yet!
got that Malbec too, love it.

Loving this whisky and loving the banter between you guys :)
thanks domanz1!
Benriach Curiositas 10yr is a lovely entry level dram. I love it and also love the bigger peats.
very nice, thanks Drambler
I've never had a Campbeltown, looks tasty. I'm thinking about looking for it next time I'm at Total Wine. It needs some peat for sure.
thanks Michael!

nice, thanks xiamengbaby!
Thanks for bringing your different peat meters to that bottle! I've held off trying it b/c of the NAS thing but will put it on the list. Cheers, boys!
really surprised me for the entry level and the price! thanks Robert. Scott
I have this one also. I really like it! Great review!
We love it!
Love Longrow, their Red series and single cask releases are excellent. The 18 is amazing as well.
there are some good ones! thanks Peter!

good call on the different peats
@@ScotchTestDummies Port Charlotte uses the same Highland peat if you have a PC around give it a side by side.

Right on

haha awesome Raster! thanks!
Bought this now watching the review...I hope I like it. If not I guess I can share it more.
open it up and try it!
Recomending peat monster to a beginer is funny 😀 theres a reason its called a Peat Monster and not a Peat Puppy 😂. Love the video.
It is the peat that made me a peat head. I think it’s rather tame now.
Great review and happy to know you like Longrow Peated too. As a standard DB non-Islay NAS peated single malt, it and Benromach Peated are the best.
thanks Peter!
Great review, always looking for a peated whiskey I can convert my speyside loving friends to the PEAT side. 😄
Good choice!
You should do this one. It’s lovely. I’m not a peat head, but this peat finish is delicious.
Nice review! Gonna put this on my must try list.
You should!
Please review the Longrow 18. Its great especially after the bottle has opened
definitely looking for it!
For Scott: the thrird distillery in Cambeltown is Glengyle (Killkerran)
boom!
Bart has got to go cold turkey for a month or two and reset his peat palate.
he just took two weeks off!
I bought this and Ledaig 10 in Edinburgh a few years ago. My gateway whiskies to becoming a spearhead......ok no autocorrect this time.....peathead.
haha i knew what you meant!
Got this one hoping for something similar to Springbank 10. It's good, but doesn't have that heavy oil and much more sweetness.
and not the funk...
Brother Scott, like that glass. Will y'all be adding it to the store? Cant find it round here nowhere.. Cheers
not sure the actual name of that glass, its from the SMWS
Love your show dummies ! U have to try the kilkerran heavily peated.. 👌 Let bart feel the peat again😉
don't encourage him!
i have this on my shelf and drink it sparingly because its great.
yes it is, thanks Erik!

Btw, it's 35€ give or take over here.
a very nice balance!
Peat balancer is off 😂😂😂
Entry level peat is like highland park. Imo. Or johnnie walker green if you're looking at blends, but neither bottle is really cheap.
True. Sometimes it’s best to get thrown into the deep end.
@@ScotchTestDummies oh I agree, my first peated whisky was ardbeg 10 and I haven't looked back since. But some people just aren't ready to go in the deep end lol.
Scott's bobble head imitation confused Bart. Hey, that's a STD product, STDs Bobble Heads.
we need those!

Had Longrow Peated years ago and found it a bit weak on the smoke. And missed that Springbank funk.
i'm not a big fan of the Springbank funk so I don't mind it not being here.. Scott
Give it another go Nathan. I think you and Scott will meet halfway.
WTF!!!
Your faces while your tasting the whiskey is soooo Cringy!!! I'm dying over here! 🤣🤣🤣
thats ok we cringe at our faces too!
