  • Longrow Peated NAS is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky made by the Springbank Distillery and named after a long gone former distillery that closed in 1896. This Longrow, unlike regular Springbank, is heavily peated at 50PPM, is double distilled, and is aged in Ex-Bourbon Casks. Watch this Single Malt Scotch Whisky review to find out about the history of Longrow Single Malt and to find out if this whisky is one of the best Scotch Whisky options for you. What does heavily peated Springbank taste like? Watch to find out. Cheers.

    What I love about your channel, is that besides just giving it a nose/taste/score like most of the youtubers do, you tell a story behind the bottle, the short history of distillery. It makes the whole video more interesting, and possibility to return to it in some time

      Thanks for saying that Pavlo! I'm never certain if people care about the history but I definitely try to include especially if I haven't talked about the distillery much before. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers 🥃

    Longrow Peated blew my mind when I first tried it as I think I was not expecting much. It's such an approachable and tasty dram that I just didn't want to put the glass down. I still love this one. For me Springbank 10 is a fantastic, near perfect dram. I don't need to go up to 12 15 18 or 21 (I haven't tried the 25 yet but I don't think I can with these prices). Cheers dude this was a brilliant review and thank you for the history lesson, very entertaining!

      Thanks for the feedback! I am never sure if other care about the history part so good to hear. Springbank 10 will go toe to toe with almost anything. It is exceptional. For the Springbank core range I have only missed the 25 and 30. After the 21 I didn't feel the need to upgrade past the 15 and 18. Cheers 🥃

    It's always nice to see your reviews, good job! I little reflection about NAS whisky...I have absolutley no problem with NAS, the smell and taste is what's important, but I think it gives respect to the distillery when they "dare" to put an age statement on the bottle, I mean, it gives a hint of what to expect of the whisky. Trancperency and info is always a good thing. Cheers!

      Good point about being bold and brave enough as a distillery to slap a younger age statement on the bottle. That can only been seen as a vote of confidence in their own product to stand up to scrutiny even with a young age. Love seeing the transparency. Cheers buddy 🥃

    I would have to say this is a top 3 NAS whisky. For availability, value, quality, pedigree and prestige. What else comes close?
    I hate to see it over priced though. It's not 18 years old and it's not a cask strength wine finished Red, so it's got to be well under $100.

    It is so unfortunate, Campbeltown distilleries don't seem to have necessary production to meet the demand and the scarcity it has created. I can only speak from 3 offerings I have had interactions with and this is one of them. The other two are SB 10 and HB 10. All great in experience they provide. Sad reality, no chance of getting any of the Longrow Reds, SB 15, 18, HB 15 etc.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Рік тому

      I feel sorry for you Rohit, wish these whiskies were more plentiful so that we could all experience and appreciate them. If it wasn't for virtual tastings I'd be completely out of luck too. It's pretty dire lately, but I don't have to tell someone in Ontario that. Cheers 🥃

    My favorite would have to be the Springbank 15 but since it's difficult if not impossible to find down here it's the 10 and the Longrow...because I still have them on my shelf.
    Thanks for all the reviews, Matthew!

    I'm all about longrow, their red series is amazing!
    I have a couple of the old longrow 14,my Version is heavily sherried and the Funk is definitely present.
    It's a shame that NAS is the only one we can easily get, I'd love to try the longrow 18 or 21 but that'll have to wait till I visit the distillery

      I have been lucky enough to find the last four Reds, and SB12's. Expensive little hobby.

      @DJMJRyder Glad you love Longrow too! I'm looking forward to cracking a Longrow 18 someday soon here. I tried the most recent Longrow 21 and found it enjoyable but not sensational if that helps the numb the bottle lust. This last Tawny Port cask was pretty delicious, but pricey in my area. Wish I could get a whole bottle of that. Cheers 🥃

    I would say Longrow has supplanted Laphroiag quarter cask as my favourite heavily peated NAS whisky. I wish there wasn't this weird stigma about putting a 7 on the bottle if that's the youngest spirit involved. Ardbeg did release the 'wee beastie' with a 5 year old age statement so maybe things will change on this front eventually. At this point I don't hold NAS against a whisky as long as they are doing everything the right way like Springbank does.
    The bottle of Kilchoman Sanaig I just picked up also has that high integrity profile so I am hoping it can be a young peat monster to rival Longrow.
    (I also haven't had the chance to try Hazelburn yet so Springbank 10 remains the leader in the clubhouse as much as I do enjoy Longrow).

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound Рік тому +2

      Sounds like a good list video someone should make.
      Top five NAS(or under 10 year) peat monsters.
      I procrastinated on the Sanaig and splurged on the Loch Gorm instead. Integrity-yes. Peat-yes. Delicious?----after the neck pours it's really opening up nicely.
      Value-nope.
      As for the wee Beastie? No complaints. But after both being open over a year? The Lag8 is a bit more complex with a nicer finish, IMO.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Рік тому +1

      @Dan Morgan I think as you've suggested that NAS stigma is starting to fade away when presented well. Ralfy was notorious for refusing to review NAS but then did so in an extra with the fantastic Glen Scotia Victoriana. And this year he is reviewing NAS including the Kilchoman Sanaig you mention, which is a great buy in my area. I've really enjoyed it and picked up a bottle for a buddy this weekend at $90 CAD.
      I also think as you do that young age statements are no longer considered knocks against bottles. You correctly mention Wee Beastie 5 year old, i've had unbelievable Peated Ben Nevis at 6 years old, and Octomore is typically 5 years old. Hope for more and more transparency in the future. Cheers 🥃

      @Jack The Pickled Hound Thanks for the video idea :p I like the value proposition in my area with the Kilchoman Sanaig. I picked one up for a buddy this weekend, for the moment at $90CAD, . That won't last but I am enjoying it for now :) I haven't taken a shot on a bottle of Loch Gorm yet.

    Great sharing as usual, thank you! Hello everyone, one question here, if I have budget to buy one bottle of peated whisky recently and I need to choose between longrow peated 700ml and ardbeg smoketrail mazanilla 1L travel edition. They cost similar in my city and despite the extra 300ml for the ardbeg. Which one do you guys suggest me to pick eg which one do better in terms of nose/palate/aftertaste in your opinion given I have tried both springbank10(non cs) and ardbeg 10 and like both of them. May those who have tried both share the experience? Thanks in advance!

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Рік тому

      Hey Wilson! I'm not going to be able to tell you which one is better for your palate. However, in my opinion you have a couple different things to consider. Longrow is a classic and is getting harder to get, but is still usually available a couple times a year in my market and is a regular release. Ardbeg Smoketrails is a limited travel retail release, likely meaning it will only be available until they run out and then no more. It also, like you mention is a larger bottle, so it seems like a great value. I did a video review of Ardbeg Smoketrails and enjoyed it quite a bit, but not everyone one does. Maybe check out that video if you haven't already and see if the tasting notes are the sort of thing you are looking for. Hope this helps! Cheers 🥃

    Hi Matt I see you got the Jameson Stout cask behind you, I found a little Glenmorangie Signet improved the finish in a blend, just in case you have some : ) Always try to have a Longrow
    Peated on the Bar or if it's available the Kilkerran Heavily Peated which takes my vote from the Glengyle range if you see it at retail £49-£52

      Hi James! Sadly I don't have any Glenmo right now, I have been eyeing up that Signet though. I could see the chocolate malt of the Signet picking that Jameson up a bit. I love my KK HP, great price out here too. My last bottle ran me the equivalent of £50. Cheers 🥃
