Zoom Distance is rough 7.4 KM/ 4.6 Miles from Camera to Island
Over the coming weeks Superzoom will be posting a series of max zoom test comparison videos so that everyone undecided on which camera to buy or whether they want to upgrade has the best point of reference to work with. Think of it as a review of zoom capabilities of sorts.
All P1000 vs P900 videos will show you split screen side by side comparison of the cameras in full physical zoom/digital zoom and auto photo mode. Presented in 4K including the up-scaled P900 video, there i no better way to compare these two cameras.

glad i didnt buy p1000. not much difference.
happy with mine p900! :-)
Daniel Boruch of course but this video i think not true due to 83x and 125x????? Defenately got different...
Do you have audio problems with it because mine does.
@@hectorgarza8540 hey, no. No problems at all.
if you just bought yours perhaps try to return it and get replacement. I know those things can be annoying. Happened to me few times with different products.
not much difference ? Not only that but the p900 looks better with more colour and more sharpness. look at 2:10 the one on the left(p900) looks better.
U r right! P-900 is easy to carrying.. P1000, is a big project ... Handheld zoom impossible!
p900 color is better
i too own p900.
Different light conditions
@@MM-lq4xf The P1000 was demonstrated during the rain right?
Yeah, nah buddy. those are in fact two different cameras.
Excellent video. I was seriously thinking about upgrading from my P900 but not now. To be honest I’m really disappointed in the lack of zoom difference. On paper it looks far more capable.
نعم لذيك الحق لا يوجد إختلاف
you also have to consider the 4k on the p1000
@@riverspohn9375 yeah lol, I bet if it wasn't for the 4k nobody would buy the new p1000 lol
p900 have better colour and almost same clarity but for half the price......
P1000 only worth at max, a 40% premium for the 4k capability the long range zoom is not much better than the P900. Would like to see closer subject comparisons but atm from what i have just seen... twice the price for the P1000 is ridiculous.
Absolutely Joe! The people have spoken so I will get to that ASAP, weather is awful this weekend so might me a couple of weeks away. Just posted a like for like at 2000mm for the last supermoon but plenty more to come. Thanks for dropping in
@Lewis Stephen M Yes, you do get the planets much better with the P1000.
The P900 max zoom looked better!
Because the video is inaccurate. The P1000 is many times better.
right ? i was thinking i'm imagining it but it's actually better. wtf ? how can the p1000 with 42x extra be so bad ? p900 has 83x and p1000 is 125x HOW ?
@@Choice777 shhh
@Omicron Because you do not know all it can do.
A p900 é melhor.
Thank you man. Finally some nice comparison. I wasn't going to buy P1000 anyway - because of it's weight, size and crazy price. My old P900 seemed perfect enough. But I still wasn't sure if difference between 2000 and 3000 is like I was calculating. What you have shown confirms that it's not worth the price. If it was 4000 - with better zoom stabilization while zooming - well would be worth trying. But the size makes it a stationary camera which doesn't make sense for most of people like me. P900 is not so comfortable already to travel around with. But it's best right now (price, size, zoom). Let's wait for the next model few years. Who knows what it's going to bring us. Thanks a lot again. Now I'm 100% sure p1000 is not what I personally would need. All the best to you.
It actually feels really weird to use the p900 now, feels tiny
Thank you for the video. It helped me a lot in choosing which camera.
Happy to help mate, write to Nikon and let them know I’m selling their camera for them :P
Thank you for this straightforward, professional style comparison. Exactly what i was looking for

Guess I'm sticking with my beloved P900! Thanks for the video.
No Worries Steven.
Same!
amen--I got way better pix of an eagle today with my p900. I have a. Canon I paid $1000 for that can't even compare to what my Nikon can do with wildlife--and the canon has a tamron 18-400mm lens. Nikon for wildlife--nothing is better that I've seen yet
It would be a good idea to take photos of birds at a reasonable distance, which does not bring in haze or heat shimmer issues, to see what level of detail can be captured with each camera. Perhaps some tracking of slow flying birds as well?
Guys, the difference between the P1000 and P900 is huge! Take a look:
1. RAW vs no RAW, 2. Minimum Shutter Speed 60sec vs 15sec, 3. 4k video vs no 4k video, 4. F2.8-8.0 vs F2.8-6.5, 5. focus from 30cm vs focus from 50cm, 6. Viewfinder resolution O-LED 2,359,000 vs LCD 921,000, 7. built in microphone port vs no microphone port, 8. External hot shoe flash vs no external hot shoe flash, 9. Bluetooth vs no Bluetooth, 10. longer built-in flash range, 11. Screen 3.2" vs 3" 12. and of course 125x zoom vs 83.3x zoom.
I got the Nikon P1000. It is definitely, and with no doubt, a huge upgrade over the P900 and it is worth the extra money by a long shot! The settings and features show a clear and a HUGE difference between the two. Learn to use the features of your camera and you will love it even more. Don't just by it to only press the "take a photo button" - these cameras offer so much more; especially the P1000.
Also, there is one and big problem in this comparison. They were not done simultaneously, but one after another. P1000 colors look different from P900 as it is zooming in the shadowed subject when P900 does not. The editor should note it, or better yet, redo the video. Otherwise, it could be misleading to amateur photographers.
Agree, I don't see very many who commented that caught the difference in lighting and shadow.
Wonder if both cameras were set up at the same exact settings and exposure too. Both should be set up side by side at the same time, not at different times of the day for a fair analysis.
neah , nice try to convenes us but the p900 is better , i will keep the p900 and wait for the nest update
Thank you

Useful comparison, thanks! It’s a pity the sun went behind a cloud for the P1000 shot.

@@SuperZoomVideos 😂😂😂😂
You can clearly see the boats in different spots ... these was ages apart from one cam to the next
Which one would you reccomend? P900, P950 or P1000 for zooming in on plane and moon at best picture quality ? I only want one of these camera so i can see the moon and planes super close up with best quality video/picture.
Either the P950 or P1000. The P1000 gives you a little more zoom distance and it’s a lot bigger but the zoom difference is negligible. I haven’t personally used the P950, just something to keep in mind 🙂
An interesting test perhaps not showing a lot of difference but the p1000 has a lot of other features not found in the p900. Both are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Dave!
83x vs 125x, why do these both pretty much look identical, aside from maybe some better clarity on the p1000?
There isn’t a great deal of difference once you hit the furthest range with this camera.
Did you go into digital zoom mode a bit while zooming with the p1000?
Hey mate been a while since I filmed it but in some videos I dip into the digital but I usually try and point out when that happens. Sorry I can’t be more specific
It looks way heavier than the p900 but it shoots RAW and that's if you want to blow up your photos huge and it has a hot shoe for better mic or lighting...did I get all of that right?
Chuck in 4K, better view finder, layout is a lot better along with some handy presets and yeah that’s pretty much it.
Does the P1000 have a mic input or any of those kinda features the P900 lacks compared to other cameras? Square mode would be beneficial for me also.
The mic on my P900 is total trash but could be cause I got it used. I dunno what it’s supposed to be like to compare. I want to be able to display onto a monitor to do live streams of the moon or use my ZoomH1N as its mic. I added a cold shoe to mine for the shock mount with my zoomh1n. Syncing, and having to overlay audio kinda sucks.
10,000 pictures a month is light work for my Nikon. It takes a beating as well always clipped on my belt or backpack. It’s fallen off 4’ walls, been knocked over countless times on the tripod, and I even dash mount it on a Z-mower. Where it threads broke out a quarter size piece of plastic cause it’s so heavy and in the worst possible location. I JB welded the hell out of it, then bought a ring mount that attaches around the textured part in the front. It’s so much better, everyone needs that ring for these cameras. Better stability all around. I use a monopod a lot and it was an immediately noticeable improvement just holding it. Get a ring mount.
There is a mic Input on the P1000 and the mic is still rubbish :) my mic jack has packed it on down one channel though
Well thank you for showing us the difference between the two cameras and by the way there is a little zoom difference and for what i can see seems like p900 would be a great choice.....
If the zoom is what you are looking for then yes the p900 is probably the better option
Wow thank you for this comparison, so glad i didn’t get p1000 instead got the p950! so excited to try it out
Awesome J K! Hope you enjoy it
me too i got the p 950.
Thank you for this video. Nearly I would have buy a P1000. I am now happy with my P900! I think that the P1000 is much more heavier and bigger than the P900, so even a good tripod can not carry it without tremble.
It’s definitely picks up the tremors
Thanks for this Video..now I'm not pissed that the P1000 came out after
purchasing my P900 a while back..the quality and zoom are no different
especially after purchasing extra accessories for my P900 like 2 extra batteries, external charger, tripod & carrying case
👍👍.....
No worries mate, I love them both 😂

right on!..👍
Thanks mate you just saved me $1400 Australian, il continue to enjoy my p900 👍
All good buddy, Nikon must hate me at this point 😅
@@SuperZoomVideos at 2:10 they looks pretty close like p900 83x and p1000 like 90x...where is the extra to 125x ?
I purchased the P950. I had read landscape photos at mac zoom arent that great because of refraction haze of the atmosphere. the extra zoom on the P1000 might be good for astro shots but the extra 1000mm supposedly gives horrible camera shake
Yeah you really need a steady hand or tripod and remote. I think the larger size adds to that. Still love it though 😃
Thx for the comparison, I will keep my P900 as 2000 vs 3000 seems to have only minor different, and I tried a P1000 demo, the evf is not as brilliant as I expected. only the hot shoes and RAW attracts me than(sensor matter, RAW file no use for me)
Well thought out, glad this helped in your decision.
1080p vs 4k I think? Pls film again in 1080p with the p1000
Hey Master, will add it to the list
What kind of mic do you use for the p900? My audio isn't that great, what do you recommend I'm new to cameras.
Hey buddy, just the internal it has no external mic port. I use a rode mic on the p1000 though. I made a comparison video if you like.

@@SuperZoomVideos so i should probably return the p900 and get the p1000. Is their any other cameras you would recommend, mostly going to be used for long distance pics and recording. My budget is going to be raised to $1,200. And thank you for responding so quickly.
What was the video format of this vid , 1080p vs 1080p or hd vs 4k ?
Hi Gary, would have been 4K vs 1080p from memory but most editing software will upscale the footage to the highest content used
Excellent video, I'm surprised the price went up so much
Between the models?
Great Demo I think I will hang on to my 900. Keep up the great Videos.
Thanks again for dropping in G.K, let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to see.
Fully agree with you Marco, you have to look outside of the zoom which can be hard when a lot of the marketing is focused on that.
me too
Nice vid. thanks for the comparison.
i wish u can catch ufo someday. ✌
Oh that would be awesome
I don't see very many who commented that caught the difference in lighting and shadow.
Wonder if both cameras were set up at the same exact settings and exposure too. Both should be set up side by side at the same time, not at different times of the day, for a fair analysis with the same settings.
I exchanged the P900 for P1000 after testing each and liked the closer zooms the P1000 offers. I can hook up an external mic too. I can video record remotely too.
This video is not a fair comparison in my opinion. Something is off somewhere. I did my own test and traded up afterwards.
I use both in default just to get a decent comparison without screwing too much of the result but I think you are right the 0 exposure doesn’t seem to be the same for both cameras
@@SuperZoomVideos Okay. Set them both to manual mode, then adjust them to be the same and see. Manual does wonders. I use auto to get it in frame, then switch to manual to fine tune.
@@luvpamelanewton yeah I will look to do some more like for like tests going forward and I think manual mode will need to factor.
One biggest difference between P900 and P1000 are extra zooms and 4K capability.
But I think for half the price P900 is a better choice rather than P1000 if you just using the camera for telephoto only.
I agree, if you are looking for just the zoom probably stick with p900
Raw capture ability could make a difference, I sometimes lose photos due to blown out highlights with my P900
Thank you for this video. Really not much of a difference at all. In fact I like the brightness of the p900 a little more, and it shakes less when zoomed in all the way compared to the 1000. Really happy I didn't upgrade.
That’s fair, probably just worth noting the default aperture Is different on both and I do leave them on default when comparing
I have a stupid question: Did you use a tripod when recording a video? If so, have you turned off the image stabilizer? I myself have a P900 for more than 3 years and know the jerks during video recording when the image stabilizer is turned on. I had the P1000 for a week to test and used it mainly for taking pictures. The projection of 1,000 mm more focal length, I can hardly use in wildlife and nature photography, as the heat flare over fields and bushes, the photo quality severely limited. But for video recordings, the P1000 is my first choice.
Hey Jochen, yes it’s a bit crummy but does the trick. I keep the image stabiliser on but have tried it without and it was definitely worse shaking at longer zooms. Might be worth doing a video on if you don’t mind me stealing the idea 😉
No stupid questions, mate. Just good ideas
I know how difficult it is to get 2,000 or 3,000mm focal length quiet. I use a Manfrotto video tripod and even that wobbles extremely. This focal length is also a - as you say - superzoom! Keep up the good news, you are doing a good job 😉
I'm disappointed that the comparison is in different lighting situations. How hard would it be to have side by side same time? This seems deceptive really.
Hi Otium, it’s the camera default settings coupled with larger lens on the P1000 not the lighting conditions. I have made a few of these now and it’s pretty clear now that the default aperture and exposure is not the same on the two. Thanks for watching
Would the P900 with a solid tripod be adequate for moon watching?
I think so Betty, just keep in my mind with the moon once you are zoomed in it’s moving pretty quickly so to keep it in frame something with a fluid head might be good.
Both are incredible cameras. If only the max zoom is considered then, for the price difference, the P900 seems like the way to go. I assume there are other features of the P1000 that make it worth paying is significantly higher price. Thank you for sharing. Greetings and kind regards.
Please do you see a large difference? for 330 euros plus cameras
+Dave Stredulinsky The biggest advantage I see with the P1000 is that it can capture RAW images rather than the JPG images that the P900 captures. This means a LOT more can be done post editing to bring out details and colors since JPG tosses out a lot of the information about an image before the image is saved. The P1000 also can shoot video in 4k, has an external mic jack and also has bluetooth and a hot shoe. Serious photographers can do a whole lot more with the P1000 but the everyday point and shoot photographers will most likely do fine with the P900.
@@edhaynes4107 Thank you. Yes those are important improvements to consider.
Hey there Akhenation, for the zoom alone I would go with the P900 but if you have other uses for the camera then definitely worth the upgrade.
Nice, but I'd prefer to stay with my Nikon COOLPIX L820 :)
I read somewhere that on the p1000 you can't make use of Infra Red but you can on the p900. But will double check this when buying one of the two as IR intrigues me as an option. Thank you for the video
Honestly not something I had thought about, would this have been a mod?
@@SuperZoomVideos As far as I know yes the focus has to be recalibrated to focus on the desired wave length. 400nm to 700nm versus near IR 400nm to 1200 nm. But still searching.
Tony Vernon oh awesome, lemme know what you find out.
@@SuperZoomVideos Currently following this thread with some pointers to possible filters which may work without recalibration or simple hack.

They take the camera apart and remove the filter. That is how they do it. Warranty becomes void.
Not much difference as for much more money and extra one kilo to carry!Got P900 and happy with it and no need to upgrate to not much better!Cheers for sharing!!!
Nikon might just send a hit squad after me at this rate. I’ll be posting some like for like comparisons soon so stay tuned and thanks again for watching
SuperZoom, would you recommend p1000 or p950?
Hey jimbo, I haven’t used the P950 but it’s essentially the P1000 in a smaller package with slightly less zoom. So really it’s just your preference on size.
I loved the begin jajaja fast, as we love
I've wanted the p900 for at least 2 years and I might finally fork up the cost and just get it
I would got straight for the P950 or P1000 at this point, it’s getting a bit long in the tooth at this point
Why doesnt Canon or others have anything like this level of Zoom?
Why is it at 16mp instead of 20 or 24pm..
I know the chip needs to be small for the image circle , yet I think they can push the chip for max zoom use.
I wonder if anyone has converted one to IR, or perhaps taken apart and used the lens on a larger sensor?
Thoughts!
Hey Phil, honestly I feel like it’s such a niche camera that you would have to be pretty confident you could make money before you would commit.
There are definitely some IR conversions out there, probably plenty of vids on UA-cam for them.
@@SuperZoomVideos no, it is simply to see how far the camera would see before the curve of earth is supposed to interrupt that view. As I see a lot of footage thatwe see way further than we are supposed to based on the given data. The P900, has more zoom than my 150-600+1.4x(890 with1.4x multiplier) on a FullFrame 42mp can do.
So I am ready to replace it, but I think $500-700 maybe what I place a value number on the P1000; used to new.
So if I take the 890mm 42mp file and crop in, the quality is close, but I honestly forgot what the comparison is, yet I remember getting closer and more low quality detail 1:1 on the P900, vs the Fullframe has much cleaner detail at 1:1, but gets messy when cropping in.
the focal lengths of both are clearly different (P900 83X) VS (P1000 125X) in theory, the results of the maximum zoom of course are also different ... but what if both use the same focal range ??? let's find out
How do you mean, like a target within the range of both to compare quality? I have a couple of Videos like that if you like.
Very enlightening video!Thanks.

Hmmm not sure what to say after seeing this. I had high hopes after my initial review, but compared side-by-side Id say hold out for better. To me it appeared that optics on the P900 was still better than other
Im really not sure if there will be a next one
Seems like the camera settings were not the same as the P1000 shows the island as dark
I leave them on default to get a good comparison but I suspect the iso might either be setup different or the larger lens on the P1000 let’s more light into the sensor
So max optical zoom is the same? So the 1000mm zoom difference is digital zoom? Too much atmospheric haze but the p900 has better contrast. I guess I'll stick with my p900 for now. Looking at the p950 and am liking the touch screeen
Okay I have had people tell me that it does and doesn’t have a touchscreen. Where are you hearing things from?
There’s a slight difference zoom but not hugely noticeable at long range
@@SuperZoomVideos Most reviewers online states it has touch screen yet Nikon doesn't mention it on the specs. In their Q&A forum Nikon responds that it's not touch screen. This is confusing to future buyers. Most video reviews only concentrates of the zoom feature and not the screen itself. I'll keep my p900 for now. Hopefully Nikon will add a larger sensor and faster write to SD card from the buffer.
@@kanehi I was under the same impression that it wasnt listed anywhere officially. The size of that screen also make me wonder how useful it would be.
I am going to have to try and track one down once lockdown is over
@SuperZoom. I have a Canon camera and you can actively use the screen to selectively focus on a subject without taking your eyes off the viewfinder using your thumb. The menu selection would also improve.
Perfect, thank you!

Awesome video, thanks. I guess I am not "upgrading" from P900 to P1000. Not worth it.
All good buddy! Glad I good help
what is a good price of used p900?
Hey Lele, they seem to go for around 3-400 USD on eBay so anything under that is a deal
Excellent video comparing the P900 to P1000, which is extremely large. The zoom is not quite as a difference, except it shoots in raw if that makes much of a difference. I will stick with my P900. I bought it for the close ups. Not concerned with type of format.
Just as good as telescopes these cameras ?
The quality of the photo drops dramatically at long distance for both cameras. Conditions on the day play a big part but still at 4 miles or so you will not be entering long distance shots into competitions or even printing them in my opinion. Yes I do love the long distance but use it for wildlife which would be a few hundred yards away. P900 does a great job and you also get the benefit of excellent Macro shots. I cant knock the P1000 , its a case of if you have the money then buy it, if you are on a budget then do go for P900 its really worth it , Thank you..
Well put Seanie, thanks for dropping in.

Yeah like others have mentioned, the P1000 have other features that the P900 lacks, but I'm genuinely surprised that the optical zoom itself is little to no different, even though the spec sheet implies otherwise.
It’s one of those weird things that might actually make more difference over shorter distances as opposed to longer. I really should make a video about as it’s hard to explain.
125/83 is only about 1.5 that's why.
@@NorbertKasko 1.5 wouldn’t even get you to the waters edge
@@SuperZoomVideos 1.5 is the ratio between the zooms. You don't understand? 83 is the zoom for the P900 and 125 is for the P1000. That's why the difference isn't that big. You may have expensive cameras but you don't really understand them.

I really really really would love someone to show the ability of this camera for stuff like vlogging. I am thinking of doing a travel vlog and a camera like this would be great for obvious reasons but I wonder how well it would be for regular filming and vlogging
Just from filming the intros which let’s be honest I don’t put a lot of effort into I would say it would need an external mic for any real clarity. ( I have a video on a comparison with and without if you are interested) other than that you just have to remember it’s quite large and tends to draw in a look or two.

How is night shots compared to p900
Here you go, Nikon P900 vs P1000 - Lowlight Test ua-cam.com/video/2JhbZeK9AyQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for your videos!
I really want the p1000 but bit pricy for me at the moment, I think I'll settle for the p900 as there wasn't a major difference in comparison, keep those videos coming!! 😊😎
No worries Jamie, happy to have been of assistance and I hope you enjoy the P900!
wow I was about to upgrade to the P1000.....after watching this I will stick with my P900.... !!
I think im 50/50 for selling people on these cameras :D still think Nikon should be paying me a commission
Color of the sea... Looks like a diferent sea each one... Wich do you think is the more realistic? You were there... 🤔
Hey buddy, I think the default setting on each camera is a bit different which makes things a little tricky when trying to test on default settings. Thanks for watching 😀
Wow, the P1000 looks really bad... more shaky, less color, darker and less focus, looks blurry
The P900 video images look clearer and brighter than the P1000 video images.
For stills the P1000 images look a bit better than the P900 images.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Peter!
The 900 looks pretty good,,almost as good,,what do you think?
Heya Million, if you are looking at zoom purely then yes you would be right. P1000 still wins in the other categories though.
@@SuperZoomVideos is there any way to do a comparison on the other outstanding features where the 1000 is better in comparison?
Thanks for your channel is really interesting you're doing a great job
@@SuperZoomVideos why does the p1000 with 125x look more like 90x compared to p900 83x ?
Damn, the P1000 max zoom gives you a little bit more resolving power, I guess most people expected a lot more but this is just what I expected from it.
Pretty good comparison, thumbs up.
Cool but when when is half life 3 coming?
@@SuperZoomVideos
As soon as Gaben takes it out of the fridge I guess lol.
😂
Any updates about HL3?
Seriously where is the this big difference? I keep my p900 for the moment...i waiting for coolpix p1100 152X
There is an up step in the usability plus the 4K and raw but zoom wise the difference is minimal over long distances.
Price/value P900 is a good buy. Nice comparison.
Thanks mate, yes it’s a bit older now so the price has dropped right off
별로 차이가 없네요. 맞나요?
I am waiting for 4000 mm zoom camera...may be by year 2020. who knows..?
They can only get better
what a tripod you use?
Hey Mister, Manfrotto compact but i need to upgrade as it not very stable in the wind or when moving the head.
Not much different will stay whit my p900
Both have almost the same zoom
Thank you so much.
Thankyou for watching electro
I want to follow your video's, show me lots of aerial objects, because I can't afford those cameras, still I am genuine explorer photo graphic lower.
P900 is best one
i think this video taken was not at the same time.......... there were a different colour of island
the two cameras have different default settings so the colors come through different.
Are both these good for filming?
Define good? They are perfect especially in low light but still good
@@SuperZoomVideos didn't realize I was messaging the same person in the lighthouse vid. What I meant good was like the quality of the vid. Also didn't realize that only one has the mic.
@@SuperZoomVideos one more thing, can the mic on the p1000 be used with a wireless lapel mic?
All good buddy, no harm. The internal mic is average on both so that is a big advantage for the P1000. No idea about the wireless mic, might depend on how it works
I do like my Nikon P900
Thank you!!!
You are welcome Arun! Not sure what I did but ill take it :P
Thank you
🙂
