    I was given the P1000 as a christmas gift.
    Its limitations are easy tondeal with as prior I was using my Nikon D3200 with a Tamron 150mm-600mm lens, a lot of weit to lug around all day, the P1000 is a joy!
    The biggest issue I have is it needs a higher pixel count as 16mp is very restrictive.

      Think seriously about it before spending all that money.. Do you really need a super zoom camera? What type of photography are you looking to do? There are some great cameras out there for nowhere near the price of this Nikon super zoom. Do you want to do street photography? Or do you wish to do, micro photography, or night shots? For example, I have the Fujifilm Finepix s99OOW with a 50x zoom.
      I hardly ever use that zoom facility though, as I am more interested in taking shots of the subjects I have just mentioned. The s99OOW is nowhere near the price of the Nikon displayed, yet it takes stunning shots. I know what type of photography I want to do so that is half the battle won. So, as I said, before you spend all that money on a camera whose zoom facility you may not even use, think seriously about what type of photography you wish to produce.

    I have one and love it. It is not superb in everything but ticks most of the boxes for what I need. Some suggestions...have a sturdy tripod and spend the money to get a lens support extension. The camera is nose heavy fully extended. Buy the remote control. In video mode it is slow to auto focus so pan slowly. As said here low light is a problem. Shooting wildlife at a distance is awesome ...suggestion have a sunny day to shoot. It has a preset mode for birds and works well for that purpose....suggestion make sure bird is not in an area with a lot of shade ISO 400 and below or you will get some noise. If you go to Flickr you can see my shots under Fred Fleming.

      @Angelo Cella Back in 2006, the EU controversially decided to classify high-end digital cameras as video recorders, which attached a customs duty of 5-12% for digital cameras imported into Europe. The classification was decided not just based on digital cameras' improving abilities to record video through its lens and sensor, but their ability to record direct input from external sources like televisions. A home video recorder tax would theoretically offset money lost from users recording movies off broadcast television or cable onto digital devices, though the EU has never been very clear on the tax's intent. The tax's consequence, though, has been felt in every digital camera user looking to use a DSLR in place of a camcorder, as camera manufactures would rather limit recording capability in software than raise the price of its cameras (or lower their margins).

But everything other than the lens just isn’t good enough if you can only get one camera. Bigger sensor would be impossible without massively increasing the weight, and price.
      I use a lumix gf3 with a 100-300mm that's a 200mm-600mm equivalent, or I can use an adapter and use my sigma 150-600 That's 300-1200mm equivalent, but with that set up and weight, plus no image stabilisation it has to be used on a tripod.
      Lumix gf 3 is a micro 4/3rds system.
      I guess it could be done with a 1inch sensor but it'd be 4 times the weight and twice as long and cost a few thousand bucks.
      It's made at a price point to sell, designing it isn't the main issue, it's trying to sell it, who would buy a 1 inch sensor camera with a 25-2000mm equivalent lens that weighs 4kg and cost 3-$4,000..
      Even at this price they'd need to be able to sell a lot to be worth the cost of development and manufacturing of it.
      The P900 is damn good for what it Is, the p1000 I don't think will sell that well, the kind of people who buy these types of bridge cameras aren't the type who want to pay that kind of money for it.
      It needs to drop down to around $700 ... £600ish before it starts selling in any great numbers

    • @wildwalkeruk
      @wildwalkeruk 6 років тому

      I think it will drop to around 700 after 12 months, it's new so price is high, i was trying to find the launch price of the P900 so see how much it had come down by since launch (if any). The 1/2.3 sensor is about a crop factor of 6, which is as you have said why the zoom is so large, put in a bigger sensor and the zoom would have to be redesigned, maybe not much heavier, but larger yes.
      As for price, yeah a £1000 (in the UK) is way to much for the performance of a mobile phone camera in terms of sensor.

The Nikon zoomed in shows too much wobble. The 20.1 sensor is much nicer on the Lumix, as well. If you buy the monster, you'll be fighting the weight, the smaller sensor, the noise and other things. I don't think this will be on the market much longer.

    And the "zoom" i can get is anywhere between 2000 and 2500mm (R7s 1,6x APS-C crop= 800*1,6= 1280mm, with digital stabilizer its about 1500-1600mm. Full nuts/zoom in about 4K crop mode is additional 1,9x crop, add digital stabilizing with 1,2x crop and im also at about 3000mm.
    And if im desperate enough i can also hook up the R7 on my 1200mm 8" or fast, photographic 750mm 6" newton telescope (F4 aperture), go in 1080p24 or 30fps mode and enable digital zoom. Like this i can go at the pixel level (32MP APS-C, nice zoom) and record slightly upscaled 1080p with about 4500-5000mm on the 750mm newton and UNUSABLE (literally!) 7000-8000mm (since i dont have a tracked/guided mount for the big newton, just a dobson mount for visual planetary/moon observation
    Effective 1200mm with 32MP are already a nightmare to track/guide with "only" (literally only, its entry level) 600$ mount and tripod and at best usable with video stacking, but 3000mm+ are reserved for BIG, super expensive telescopes/observatories (when it comes to imaging)
    At all... this video stuff works well for planets and moon, but any faint object needs GOOD TRACKING/GUIDING and exposure times of 1 minute at least!

    Single biggest drawback to this is the aperture range, an F8 fixed aperture on a 3000mm lens is just not going to cut it. If your using it for snapshots it is no big deal, but for anything that you want to have a bit of depth of field to, F8 is not going to get you there. Too bad, they fixed most of the issues with the P900 except for the critical one.

      One big difference that makes contrails and chemtrails easier to track is the flip out screen. I remember with the fz80 you have to have the camera high so you can view the back or be squatting down a bit (if on a tripod at least) Besides the flip out screen prolly not too much of a difference. I hope some company will come out with something like the p1000 with a much bigger sensor. They prolly won’t. We’ll be able to see too much. Peace.

    Camera simply TOO big. TOO bulky. Image quality is poor because of excess noise over ISO of 400. The zoom gets old after a brief break in period and in warm weather, heat waves make excessive image noise extremely aggravating. On cold crisp nights it's fun to take photos of the moon, but after a few nights that gets old.
    A better buy would be a Lumix FZ-1000 or better. As someone who's used 1000mm in film days, I know what even mildly warm days do to zoomed in super-telephoto photos. And even the Lumix and Olympus cameras fall victim to this. As someone who uses wide angle lenses far more often than telephoto lenses, I value good quality wide angle and telephoto lenses that don't suffer from pincusion or barrel distortion, and all super-zooms suffer this to a degree. (That's one reason I like larger cameras than small pocket cameras, and the Lumix FZ-1000, Olympus and other good quality cameras.) If someone needs to use a good tripod-mounted camera for video or still photo archetectural use, the Nikon is a great camera. (I have a friend who shoots wedding and funerals, and she needs a good camera that is unobtrusive. But she always looks for signs of heat and other noise that might corrupt her results.)
    The Nikon has a lot of glass in it and zooming causes a loud motorized noise that might corrupt ambient sound. Oh, and the Nikon would be much nicer if it had a tripod mount _on the lens_ than on the bottom of the camera. Nikon most likely did this because it felt the lack of camera vibration would allow it and I can see their logic, but for wind and other effects, a lens mount still is a better option.

  • @wleon4068
    @wleon4068 5 років тому

    Not really into these super zoom cameras. I just want to do photography. I am more interested in black and white street photography, night photography and micro photography too. The super zooms, I feel, are just a gimmick, and, in fact, that would not sell the camera to me. I have a Fujifilm S99OOW, which has a 50x zoom. I hardly use the zoom facility on it. Preferring instead, to concentrate on the pictures I want to take with it that I have mentioned. Ok, my Fujifilm has a small sensor, but, for me, it still produces great shots. Obviously because of the small sensor, the more I blow the picture up the more noise it will produce. That's just the way it is.
    However, I stick to a standard size and it is just fine for me. Oh, one more thing, with these bridge cameras, such as the one on display here, if the camera develops a black spot on the sensor, how do you get rid of the spot? Obviously you cannot take off the lens, as it is a bridge camera? So, therefore, if you cannot get rid of the black spot, then the camera becomes a very expensive paperweight.

      @@vlad9vt I'm not sure as I stopped being into camcorders after I started using my DSLR for stills and videography years ago. But I can tell you this : it all depends on what you need from a camera. Is it extra zooming? then it's gonna be on the expense of the quality ( sensor ) coz these are the law of physics ( optics ).
      Is it gonna be high functionality and lots of mechanical parts in action, then it's gonna be on the expense of battery life and probably camera getting hot to touch.
      Also big players are : price , weight , low light shooting , noise , electronic and software compatibility , etc.
      I think some hours spent researching and asking high-tech people would give you satisfying answers!
