Rogers never should have brought back Atkins & Shapiro after the season. With the exception of renos, they've failed in every other aspect of the organization, and they're too stubborn to adapt their strategy year in year out, it's really brutal that these guys are still running this organization.
He was under .500 at the deadline and they went on a historic run in 2015. It was a good deadline and thrilling playoffs. The next year, it's arguable they only made it past the Orioles because Baltimore kept Britton away from Eddy. Then Shapiro's pitching and defense team eliminated them and it crumbled immediately. He ran into a decent 18 months more than an overall successful tenure. Higher highs for sure, but Covid lasted longer than his success here. But yeah, instant legend. Gibby too. I wish we still had him leading the way
AA sucked, over paid for old slow injury prone players at one shot and failed. In Atlanta he got a pre built team and won once. If Atkins & Shapiro left today the Jays are in better shape than when AA left.
@christopherblack4520 it's true. He made bold deadline moves (tho 2 guys he traded got paid this year - after a decade. Still worth it) Which also puts the Dickey trade into a huge loss category. Can't remember if Halladay was him or JP tho.. Jays have a blank payroll in 2 years and a team full of trade potential if Atkins leaves now. AA left us with players who gave up on us.. The farm system is where it should be after 5 years of contention. They just committed to the top Int FA SS and have an 8th pick coming. System will be fine.
Baseball is a team sport this ain’t basketball where you can have one superstar player carry the whole team in the postseason. Everyone including the bad batters and pitchers need to have somewhat of a good season to contribute a deep postseason run. There’s never such thing of one player taking a team to the playoffs or World Series unless he clone himself 10 times playing all the batting order and pitching as well.
@@Tokenblackguru101Vlad is 3/22 in the playoffs. We aren't going to clone him for big moments lol He also got picked off second when he hit his only extra base hit. He's never made a moment as a Jay in over 800 games. Our 3 playoff seasons were in his 3 least effective years..and he just does damage to us there.. (Bo more so) We've never needed him when he's been a superstar.
With Vlad Jr. body composition being portly, future years will see either be a full-time DH and part-time 1b, a massive longer contract say 14 years at $45 M AAV doesn’t make sense. Trade him and sign Satander, Bregman and Alonso.
I question that this front office is as smart as they think they are. So many terrible decisions and bad trades and signings. Sure it's a tough job, but they are definitely destroying The exciting baseball culture Toronto had recaptured a few years back.
Vlad couldn't afford to lose an arb hearing for 30+ when he is about to ask for 450m. It was wise for him to get this done prior to any third party budding in with their decision.
Hypothetically, if Vladdy was with another team and was in the 24’ FA list. Does Atkins go after him? Probably yes and how much would they pay? Probably 450-500? Nothing makes sense with this FO..sigh
I wonder how much of this is ROGERS itself not wanting to spend big.. (they PRETEND they do though). Because as of next season, they own hte LEAFS... and i better not see the same thing w/ the leafs moving forward
Too late now!!! Soto already told him to wait for his big pay day how he did!!! Big another failure by the useless BJ front office!! They should have paid him right after his bad season!!!
Does Shapiro hate AA that much that he'd let the last two pieces from his reign as GM walk for nothing? Trading both Vlad and Bo needs to hapen for a shot at a proper rebuild, the haul of prospects would breathe new life into their farm system and potentially bring a new core that much faster. Otherwise, you're looking at a core of who? Varscho and Jimenez? And it wil be one of those Praise the Lord moments when we no longer have to hear Springer's name being read off on the lineup card.
If it was up to Atkins & Shapiro they would trade him, they tried Vlad will not grow up, listen, learn stop making errors. Even last year the commentators wondered what can the coaching staff do. Rodgers looking at a fan backlash if traded, but how long will the fans keep making excuses for his errors and childish behavior.
The idea of there being no plan after Ohtani seems presumptuous lol it was Soto. The original was probably both. (Never Santander for 20+) Where's the patience from the fans? We have no idea how amazing they tried to make it here. Takes time to recover. (And that had to be Rogers' direction, not the FO) It feels like they are surprised that bidding exceeded their own willingness to extend. (On Ohtani anyways) Now all of that has passed and we are left with 'noone wants the money'. Couldn't predict that. Too bad that Ohtani had ro make a choice when Vlad was coming off of 116 and 135 ops+ seasons instead of 3 170ops+, MVP challenging seasons. Vlad looked like a bust far more than the FO looked like bums.

pretty sure 300 is only a good number in bowling ;)

AA has done well in ATL.

This jays team doesn't win with Guerrero now. Why give him 10-20 times the money to continue to not win.

I just wonder whether Rogers decided to rent out Rogers centre to concerts and events for the whole season....
No, he should only receive nothing more than 30 mil per year. I'm happy if he goes elsewhere, let Cohen foot the bill.
Well, he just agreed to 28.5 for his final Arb year.

Jeff looks great!!!
The audio is phasey and has been for the past few overdrives. Please take a look!
fire Atkins and Shapiro first and foremost

Vladdy- they roll out the red carpet for a couple guys, but not for me. That’s how I’d feel
8:42 Jays Talk Vlad Extension
Refuse to be blinded by anything Shatkins says....haven't watched a game for over a year and won't till these guys are gone.
