I'm starting the year with an English version of "Kimi wa rokku wo kikanai" (You don't listen to rock) by female Japanese singer-songwriter Aimyon, who gained a lot of popularity last year and appeared for the first time on Kohaku (popular Japanese end-of-year music program) this year. It wasn't with this particular song, but this one is apparently the fan favorite, which I can certainly understand. I plan to get to some of her other songs as well. This song is from the perspective of a man (which is common for Aimyon) who is introducing a younger love interest to the music that he grew up with, hoping that it will bring them closer together. How on earth you manage to telegraph the original melodic motion into English sentences while keeping their meaning intact, I will never know. Impressive stuff. I've tried this sort of stuff before and I get too many syllables/vowels/consonants in undesirable places and too many rhythmic values need to change. It gets hard to plot out the outline of the original melody.
This is very impressive! It's not easy to make English fit with Japanese and align with it the rhythm of the melody, but you did a great job. Actually, I usually really don't like English covers of Japanese songs, but yours is excellent.
